'Buyer beware.' One of their selling points for their in-house branded 'Powerspec' towers that I bought ($2000) was that it had plenty of room for expansion. I decided to expand it by adding an additional graphics card, which, per their recommendation would be better to have a bigger power supply. I chose the PSU that the rep said was better (it very well may be). My issue is that no one mentioned that PSU SATA cables aren't interchangeable even though the plugs are identical. The result: 2 terabyte hdd bricked and the fan/rbg header burned. Yes...maybe I should have known, but, my point is, even though they obviously cater to the diy crowd, and after you've spent $4000 with them on one computer, don't expect ANY person working their to either appreciate it or give any meaningful assistance (maybe they're just not capable.) Additionally, once getting into this powerspec computer, I realized how shoddily built it is of third rate components. With any powerspec components I had issue with, I was told they'll have to order it, then, someone else would say they can't order powerspec parts. The one part that they did agree to replace for me, the wobbly, vibrating fan on the CPU cooler ( I only noticed because adding add'l gpu and PSU), was not a correct replacement. They knew it and didn't give a s**t. I I should mention why I even went there at all. I bought a gateway tower there 10 years ago. It still does ok with periodic cleaning and thermal paste replacement. Hopefully, the installation of the SSD I just bought for it from Micro Center (the one that the rep dropped on to the hard floor on the way to the cash register...you know, they treat all customers like criminals) will go smoother than adding things to this 'expandable' 'Powerspec' atrocity. Thanks Micro Center. I'll do better without your various different very unhelpful departments. And, I know you don't give a s**t. Now, go outside and have a smoke and laugh about one more sucker. Watch out, once the rep gets his commission sticker on your purchase, you don't exist. Suggestion: research what you want, pay a premium if you must and buy online. read more

They don't carry mini PCIe Wifi cards... really!?

I guess all I can say is get more than one opinion. Brought in my MacBook because it wasn't working, wasted an hour to be told my computer will probably never work again, and the reasoning was "sometimes this just happens, and the computers break for no reason". They ended up talking me into checking it in so they can open up the computer and hopefully see the problem, which was $45. Got a call a few days later telling me that my logic board is broke and it'll be $650 to fix. Ended up then taking it into Apple and was notified that on this version of the MacBook the logic board just needed an update. Took 45 minutes but no $650 was spent. It was free. So if a Apple product is in question I recommend taking it to Apple. read more

I consider metro areas with Micro Centers to be "the lucky ones", they really are a warehouse of computer, electronic, gaming, and yes, even apple goodness - full of knowledgeable sales staff and they have managed to stay competitive with the infamous online computer parts and sales retailers. They do it by having amazing deals from bulk refurbished product purchases, especially when it comes to hard drives, video cards, and computer systems. They also have the most affordable and reliable micro and standard SD cards or usb flash drives, cd cases, all that jazz you need to be a truly tech-ed up geek :) I'd skip any other electronics retailer this Holiday shopping season and head straight to Micro Center for that LCD monitor or HDTV, or games, software, etc... Bonus, if you're in need for a quick affordable fix to your busted gaming machine head over there and you'll get your money's worth in the product, convenience, and knowledge. read more

Fantastic selection of electronics. Way way way more knowledgeable than Best Buy or Apple store. Thank god! Last summer, I picked up a 250GB solid state hard drive with a great sale price after talking to one of the employees about pros and cons of various hard drives for a long while. It was clear that he was passionate about hardware, and I really value knowledgeable tech advice! Really appreciate all of the help looking for items and the follow up. Was looking for multiple items and had someone help me for quite some time. They also continued to look after I left and called me. That's excellent customer service and why Micro Center is by far my favorite retail store. Best products, prices, warranties and product return policy that's always consistent and as sold. Not nonsense like Best Buy. It's why I'll always drive to Micro Center to purchase prior to online. Couldn't ask for more, appreciate the attention to detail, and a standard excellence consistent with all employees. Great hiring and training. I really enjoy shopping here - it is a little messy and cluttered but the staff is attentive and friendly. The prices are great too. It reminds me of a mini Fry's Electronics for all those West Coasters who are 'thrifty techies' that prefer to handle electronics before purchasing. read more

Worst customer service ever! I wish I could give this store a -10 rating. I asked 4 employees (one employee twice so 5 people, technically) and not one of them was helpful. Either they didn't know the answer to my questions (and didn't want to help further) or didn't want to help at all. I don't believe the employees I've asked have any business to be working at an electronics store - sorry but they're just too dumb to answer my technology questions. I left this store and went to Apple Store... Not only were they extremely knowledgeable, they were also very helpful. I also went to Best Buy the next day and not only were they super smart, they were also very helpful. Extremely different from what I've experienced on Micro Center. I'm never coming back to this store. Horrible customer service. I just bought a brand new gaming laptop and l9ve it! I couldn't find it else where so I was expecting a downfall but nothing was wrong. I even got a printer for 1/2 half and love my touch screen HP Pavillion . It's great quality and the customer service, variety of product and had products for a reasonabke price. While the staff tries to be helpful, they will not list or give a store number. This wouldn't be an issue if there website inventory system would actually work. This is the third morning I have gotten up early to drive across town because the website lists product's in stock that they never received. The staff is great but the upper management needs to need to fix this issue or supply a store number that guests may call. If you had an employee that received a bad review you would chastise them and possibly write them up. This is a negative review for corporate and upper management. read more

I am a software person; when it comes to computer guts my brain goes to mush. My computer is having a problem and my friend helping get it up and running sent me to Micro Center with a list of parts. When I walked in the door my mouth dropped, this is Big Bang paradise. I didn't even know where to start until a woman in flannel shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes asked if I needed help; I let out a sigh and handed her my list. This store has everything and about 99% of it, I could not even tell you what it does. But I do know that Micro Center has memory cards for the camera, accessories for all your electrics, and everything on my list. This was my first shopping experience where I felt out of my element. I almost cried when I heard some exasperated young man say, "Grandma, you need these parts to get your computer running again." When I peeked around the corner, there was this nice looking woman who looked my age with a much younger man. I would have popped him one for calling me Grandma. Anyway, a great store. I did read something about timing your visit; I was there at 2:00 and it was just starting to get crowded. They have wrap lines like DSW so I would imagine there would be long lines at busy times. read more

I like this place a lot, and have purchased many, many components here from accessories, to full PC builds, to tablets, cameras, etc... Sometimes their prices are not as good as online, but the convenience of being able to just run down and grab something is worth the extra money. They have run of the mill, and mainstream PC components and accessories, and some 'high end' components for gaming, which will satisfy 95% of the people out there. Customer service is hit or miss. I've been here recently on two visits, and had different experiences. It seems that the sales people size you up the minute they see you and decide if you should be helped or not. One recent experience, I needed a new Motherboard, and was going to spend $500 on it, but nobody would help me. Sales people walked by my (no less than 4, and a manager) without saying anything...not even a 'Be with you in a minute...' or 'Have you been helped...' nothing at all. I finally had to track someone down who was rearranging a display and said 'Can you help me? I need a Motherboard...' and I showed them the make, model and sku, and they went and got it. 50 minutes total to get a single item. My next visit, was a complete computer build. I went over to the component section with a shopping cart, and was helped immediately. Everything I needed, in and out in 30 minutes. Not very consistent service. If you need something, and they have it, I would encourage you to go there if you know what you want, and where it is at, otherwise, if you need help, good luck. read more

Best computerstore I have found yet in Colorado. Intermediate level hardware selection and some decent software. Not as good as a Fry's Electronics but similar in nature, about one third the size but the best I have found yet. Will have everything a power user could ask for. Good book selection on computers. Better than Borders. Less slick than Best Buy but lot's of choices not available elsewhere. No appliances. read more

Great selection of computers routers etc. They have the biggest selection of iPod accessories I've ever seen, maybe even better than the apple store! Only go here if you know a lot about computers. Was gifted a nice audio card so decided to buy a new PC. Spent over 5 hours here talking to many different people, sold a $1200 pc because "This is the only model powerful enough to run this card" was told the front would install my audio card for free...if I was willing to wait three weeks! called the person who gave me the card only to find the tower I was being sold was a gaming pc and had a better audio card than the one I wanted to use. Returned the PC and got a better deal at a om and pop store. read more

Ever go to Best Buy and ask a sales associate about anything PC related? Yeah, it can be pretty scary. I believe in doing business with people who know their craft, and Micro Center never disappoints. MC has EVERYTHING for all your computer needs. Videocards, cable modems, hard drives, memory, the list could go on and on. The variety of merchandise here is really impressive. The sales staff are knowledgeable, almost to fault. Many of the sales people remind me of Napolean Dynamite and his older brother Kip. A five minute conversation with one could leave your head spinning. Micro Center is worth the drive and I am always satisfied with my purchases. read more

If I could rate the service for delivery of a flat screen to my home, I would. Waited 3 and a half hours during core hours of the day--no phone call/text, etc., regarding drlivery. Finally called to confirm delivery today, and drlivery company told me my flat screen was never picked up at Microcenter to begin with. No call from Microcenter or from delivery company. A few years ago u would've given them 5 stars. Now I'll give them 3 because they still have great inventory and decent prices. There just aren't many other alternatives locally for a wide selection in computer components. Where they are really failing now is their customer service. There just aren't enough employees on the floor to help people. I've gotten so frustrated I often won't even go there now unless I already know where to find the product I'm interested in. I've grown so tired to being asked for my address at checkout, only to get push-back when I say that my address is private. Where am I? Radio Shack? Remember when they used to do that? The only thing this place has going for it is price. If you order online and go pick your merchandise up, be prepared to find out that the staff could not find items the inventory control system said were in stock. This has now happened to me five times. If you attempt to find the items yourself, in most cases you won't be able to find them either. Rarely, you WILL find the item in plain sight that the staff could not locate - because they didn't have time. A manager explained to me when this happened that if the staff cannot find the item in the store within the advertised 18 minutes, they just don't fill the order. My response was that I'd rather wait 45 minutes and have them fill the order if the item is hanging in an obvious spot on the shelf. Geez. Once, when returning a defective network switch that a co-worker purchased, I waited in line for a half hour, at which point the associate told me that I'd need to go find the item myself to complete the exchange. After twenty minutes of canvassing the store, I located another 24-port switch in the software aisle. I then waited in line another half hour to make the exchange. Unless I have an urgent need, I'll order online and wait before I give money to these clowns again. I've just been burned too many times, and they don't seem to care. There really is no local competition, and believe me, they act like it. read more

Yesterday my laptop gave me the - permanent - blue wheel of death while I was installing a program. Restarting did not cure the problem. So I went to MicroCenter at the recommendation of a friend, knowing that I might have lost all of my data, and figuring that I would need to surrender it for data recovery. When I got to the counter, I found out that for data recovery, it would be 4 days before I would be able to pick up my computer. With a client event the very next day that wasn't going to work for me. So this is where I learned a MicroCenter secret that earned them major points in my book - they have a super-nerd that sits in the back who will give you advice and try to repair hardware for free! And guess what - he fixed my laptop. So because of the fantastic super-nerd, MicroCenter gets 5 stars from me! read more

Well, I am not much of a geek, and just tried to build my first computer (writing this review on it now). Well, I went in and got a bunch of answers for things that any geek should know, and had a blast. The guys knew what they were talking about, everything was easy to find, everyone was friendly. I did however feel like everything was a little pricey compared to the on-line stores but I didn't mind spending a few bucks for the customer service. The prices will always beat big box stores (if they even have what you need) and will often beat the big online retailers like Amazon, New Egg, and Tiger Direct. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and the opposite of pushy. I have now built 3 computers and each time I have gone to Micro Center it has been a very good experience. My roommate just purchased a laptop from this location and a manager had to be called in order for him to complete the purchase because he is a person of color. This is the second occasion here where a product could not be sold to him without the manager physically coming and talking to him. WTF? The manager came and just said she wanted to "personally thank him for his purchase" Bullshit! We thought it might be a one off the first time but having this happen again only proves that this is a racist and discriminatory business. Everybody walks by you but hey, if you're going here, you should know exactly what you're looking for. Otherwise, you would be standing angrily in the service line or racing around trying to figure out who works there and who is just there to build their next gaming box! :) Pricing is the same across the board except a tad cheaper. They sell some offbeat items such as a GIANT calculator, novelty gum and Ballz drinks. The interior needs updating in a bad way. If you limit yourself to a ten to fifteen minute shopping experience, I promise 1983 will not be swallowing you whole if you can make it out the door in due time! read more

I usually make the trip down here for any of my tech needs. I know I'll be in the hands of people who know what they're talking about. However, the service has taken a turn for the worse in my recent visits. The last time I came in, I walked around trying to FIND help for about 15 minutes. I really felt like employees were avoiding me at points. But I did eventually find someone and they were able to answer all of my questions and I walked out happy in the end. I've come to see the employees here as a group of under-socialized computer geeks, thus explaining the service... but also thus explaining their knowledge of all things tech. read more

I want to rate this place a 1 star and a 5 star at the same time so I will settle for a 3 star. First I will tell you what my boyfriend always tells me. "They have great selection. Good prices and they know their stuff. It is way better than Best Buy...blah blah blah I spend too much time playing video games and like to be around people who spend even more time playing video games to feel better about myself." Maybe he uses different words but the message is the same. But lets get real. This place is a freak show! It gets 5 stars for being some awesome people watching. I always have my phone out and ready to take a few pictures. Not just the people shopping but the employees too. Not to say they don't also have normal people shopping but I don't notice them when someone wearing a mallard duck Christmas sweater walks by. My favorite part is when you walk about of the store there is a picture of Bill Gates on the wall that says something like "Founder and CEO of Microsoft" under it. It is like a shrine, a very awkward out of place shrine. Last time I was here I was really put off by a guy working the returns area. A nice older couple was there with their lap top that they were saying broke after only a few months. The sales person gave them a bit of an attitude and asked them why they didn't buy the protection plan. When the guy said "I didn't expect it to break this fast" the sales guy said "why not? I have seen computers break in one day." 100% serious as if as a customer you should be OK with something breaking the next day. I work retail and I understand the frustration with customers that do not take your advice on things like protection plans but to tell someone that it is normal for a lap top to break after one day and that it isn't then the manufacturers fault is just rude. On the other hand when I have returned items I haven't had any problems. read more

"I went into the Denver area store Sunday afternoon to purchase an 8 port switch. A Netgear switch was mislabeled for $9.99, when this was rung up it showed $39.99. I told them I was not interested at the that price and the manager refused to perform and override on the price. I left without making a purchase. Monday morning I received a phone call from my credit card company alerting me to possible fraudulent charges. I looked at my account immediately seeing that $1461.04 was charged to my card at Microcenter. I contacted the store by phone. The manager on duty was not willing to get on the phone leaving an employee to resolve the issue. This employee was not able to assist me in anyway to verify that the signature on the credit statement did not match the number on the card. Or would not evaluate security camera tapes either. This means I am left to dispute these charges with my credit card company. " read more

Allow me to summarize their return policy: "Give us your money and if you have any issues contact the manufacturer, mail the defective product to them at your own cost, wait however long it takes, all the while we will just keep your money because we did not build or design the product, we only sell it to you."
