Having never need to a micro center before I wasn't sure what to expect. I assumed a "frys"-ish experience. And my assumption was right! Except a few differences which make this a much better place for me! A) no appliances. Which is superb. I hate how large frys is and hate feeling almost lost in there. This place has every isle clearly marked. B) checkout is much easier. Feels more personal then they bay of registers at frys. C) selection. They don't have as much as frys, but who cares. They have plenty of what you could ever want for you. If you need it in a pinch, they have it. Now as far as price goes, they are fairly competitive and if you can haggle them they will price match. But if you don't need it right away, newegg is a better option because, as of right now, you don't pay sales tax. And if you're buying multiple computer parts tax can get up there real fast. But like I said if you need something and need it ASAP, this place has it. I will be back to shop again. read more

If you like building your own computer, you'll find what you need here as well as other items like laptops, desktops, graphics cards, processors, hard drives, gaming laptops, printers, televisions and tons of accessories and other components. If you can't seem find a specific computer part at other retail stores, chances are this place has it. The employees are helpful, especially if you have any questions about building your own computer. They usually have pretty good deals and the prices are reasonable to competitive as compared to other computer stores. They also have a service and repair center. Honestly surprised that Micro Center Houston has a 3/5 rating, but I suppose the unsatisfied few are oftentimes much more vocal. Regardless, Micro Center has a huge following in Houston and it always seems like the parking lot is full of cars. I've been a loyal customer of Micro Center ever since they first opened in Houston off 610 in 2012ish time frame. Unfortunately the original spot wasn't ideal for accessibility and visibility, so I definitely think they made the right choice by moving to Rice Ave/59. Micro Center has fantastic deals for PC system builders / gamers like myself, having upgraded my or friends' PCs with parts from here several times. Whenever you need to grab a part or tech gift on the same day, Micro Center has got you covered whereas other tech giants like Best Buy may not be able to help you out (and are severely overpriced). Additionally, they do price match major online retailers like Newegg, Amazon, etc so it's a good idea to compare prices if not in a rush. All of the reps around the store are knowledgeable, eager to help, and generally friendly. Check-out moves pretty quickly, as is the online order pickup. I haven't used their tech support service, but it does seem pretty busy every time I have swung by. All in all, I'll definitely be a repeat customer to Micro Center for my tech needs. Now if only all of the construction around the Rice Ave/Westpark Dr can be completed already, since driving around the Micro Center plaza is my only annoyance. read more

Stopped here again today, but this time was looking for a Nintendo Switch and a game. They had a few games and some accessories, but couldn't find the Switch. They still do a good job at catering to us builders, but they are trying harder to enter their competition's territory. While that is understandable from a business standpoint, that is not what keeps their more loyal customers coming back. They do have a lot of monitors, newer gaming laptops, accessories, etc. So I'll always come back here when I need a new component. read more

I needed to exchange a $20 headphones with better ones but I didn't have the receipt, a snobby manager won't allow it and he started arguing with me about The fact he has no proof of my purchase. This review is longgggg overdue. But I had such a great experience that I still remember it like it was yesterday! Netra was the amazing associate who helped me during my visit back in June. I was in search of a laptop and Netra spent the time listening to me discuss in detail what I was looking for and shared her honest opinions on the best options for me. She took me all around the laptop section to review the various options within my requirements. She answered what felt like hundreds of technical questions I had about logistics and warranty without hesitation.  She even recommended the security software she uses on her own laptop. So I ended up purchasing the laptop based on recommendation (and I'm usually the type to do tons of research on the internet for basic purchases let alone a laptop!) as well as the security software and MicroSoft 365. In the midst of this, the store manager stopped by to thank me for my purchase and gave me his card. I was really surprised by this (as this a large store with many other customers), they really made me feel welcome and that they appreciated me choosing to shop with them. This was the reason why I told my friends the same day they needed to start going there (and my friend ended up buying a TV a week or so later!). Furthermore, I went to look for a mouse and another associate named John stopped by the aisle to assist me. He was super friendly and funny and tried his best to help me find the mouse I wanted. Although they didn't have the mouse I wanted in stock, I really appreciate how helpful he was! Even Netra came back to follow up with me as I searched for accessories. She helped me select the best stylus pen for my laptop.  Needless to say, customer service here at Micro Center is stellar. They have a wideeee selection of electronics and great technical support. I would have loved to give them 5stars but unfortunately the customer service that I did not receive in the computer area made me change my decision. As soon as I signed in I was immediately assisted by Devin Jarvis! His customer service was exceptional. I came to get my laptop repaired and also to purchase a laptop for my boyfriend to replace the one that was stolen out of my car. There were atleast 6-8 guys standing there talking about one of the others getting/being fat. I walked away for a second and came back in hopes of being assisted but still no one approached nor acknowledged me. So I left without a new laptop. I will be back and hopefully I am able to walk out with my laptop and a brand new one and also leave with a great customer service experience. read more

I went to Micro center today to purchase a mouse. While I arrived, I got notified by the manager to check in online. The manager pointed to the white shirt guy outside helping customers sign in. So I waited to ask the guy to help me. However, the guy deliberately ignored me and offered help to another white gentlemen who came after me, even I politely reminded him that I came in first. He pointed to the barcode and told me to do it myself. After I made few more requests, he finally went ahead to sign me up. I felt I was unfairly treated and ignored as a minority woman.I don't want another customer experienced this differential treatment again.His behavior is a disgrace. read more

Great place to build a pc from scratch they sell are the parts needed to build one high recommended

Bought a Dell laptop here back in April. XPS15, loaded, 4k screen, 16gb ram... okay. Should be good, right? Sales rep was nice, polite, but pushed a Dell extended warranty. On paper, it was better than the MicroCenter warranty. Unfortunately, if you buy the Dell warranty a) you have to go through Dell customer service, which is actually one of the inner circles of hell, and b) you will be outside of the return date. As the sales rep failed to mention, the date the machine is bought by the retailer is the "purchase date," as far as Dell is concerned. So as soon as you walk out the door it's already too late. Of course, Dell won't give actually you an answer as to whether you can return the machine until you transfer ownership from MicroCenter to you, because in their system it's still listed as being owned by MicroCenter, so they can't even attempt to process a return. The transfer of ownership took 2 months by itself, because Dell kept losing my requests. After transferring ownership, Dell then let me know that for machines purchased through a retailer, it's their policy that they do not do returns at all, and returns must be handled through the retailer. Dell is legally just a service provider contracted through MicroCenter. Of course, none of this was relayed to me when it was purchased. I did have that 14-day window. But I didn't have problems with the machine until about a month after that when I tried to use Adobe Premier, and then it was BSODs for hours. I called MicroCenter after Dell finally let me know that they deferred to MicroCenter on returns and they told me they couldn't accept the return. I explained that since purchasing the laptop I had nothing but problems and that Dell was saying all returns were through MicroCenter regardless - the delay was caused by Dell's customer service and I had been trying to return it for months now. They told me there was nothing they could do, but they could have a manager call me back when they were available. I said yes. I never got a call. Dell wouldn't return my laptop, but they would replace it, so I took that option. And I've still had nothing but problems. I'm on a hotspot right now because my wireless card just randomly stopped working today. I rely on this computer 8-10 hours a day for work. I can't have problems like this. My 7-year-old MacBook Pro is still going strong, thanks to excellent customer service from Apple that I never paid a dime for (2 logic boards replaced). But after this, I wouldn't buy a Mac from MicroCenter, for fear that Apple might not honor the service contact for machines purchased through a retailer. What do I want? I want my money back. I want the countless hours of troubleshooting and the 16 hours I spent with the useless Dell customer support team back. And I want MicroCenter to stop pushing warranties with loopholes that let customers get lost in the cracks. Two stars because this is the first time I've had a problem with MicroCenter, but it being a $2,000 problem, I'll never shop there again. read more

I tried to call this location to get some info on repairing an older Macbook Pro to no avail as the line was very busy. I noticed they had an e-mail address. I promptly sent them an e-mail asking them to give me an estimate on the cost of repairs for what I needed. I was met with a reply e-mail asking me to come into the store with no estimate whatsoever. I was flabbergasted by the fact an employee couldn't take five minutes to look up parts and service to give me a basic estimate, but instead asks me to drive over an hour across town to come to a business with already questionable reviews. Why would I drive that far for physical service if you can't competently provide an online service that would only take minutes to do? Hard pass. read more

CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS! I bought some cable mods and was charged double for them. I didn't notice until I decided to return them and check the ticket. Their sales are also not put into system so if you see a sale on a part you have to make sure to tell the cashier or else they'll charge you full price. Not many stores like this left sadly, but if you need computer parts or electronics in general they've got some great deals and do seem to stock most anything you could want. I will say this might not be the best place if you're not aware of your goal or needs, as the staff are generally pretty geeky/awkward, but they are helpful and will try and answer questions. Buying Computers, Monitors, TVs and Gaming Consoles, you get the ideal, it's not worth it buying in store, they don't stay behind their product, if you have an issue with your expensive electrics and is over the 30 days, they just tell you to call the manufacturer for defective products. As a customer this is outrageous. Please just buy your Electric Devices online, you don't have to make a line to get inside the store and to pay for your Devices to get outside the store. I Believe Amazon will do better customer service than Micro Center. read more

I purchased a desktop from Microcenter and had a good experience. The staff was very helpful, along with the floor manager. Contrary to what some people are saying in the reviews, I had no issue with service and did not see any lack of employees available to help. The place was pretty busy but I noticed employees were helping everyone that need it. I saved 70 dollars on my desktop compared to BestBuy, it works great so far and I have had no issues with it. I would recommend going to Micro Center before you purchase from Best Buy. They did not even want to price match me with a similar model at WalMart and I noticed Best Buy employees kept telling everyone who needed a computer for everyday use how the computer had a slow processor. I did my research considering I dont know the first thing about computers and so far it has turned just fine for me and is not slow. Only issue i see with MicroCenter is that I went online to write a review about my desktop but it would not let me create a profile and kept asking me to input the same fields over and over again. They should look into this because reviews on products help a lot when making a purchase decision. read more

I needed to buy a PC For School and gaming. I ask the employe to assist me in everything I would need to have a PC Build with a budget of 2000. He begin to gather parts that I would need to buy and I just waited until he was done. The price came to about 1800 and I was to pick it up when they called me. After picking it up the first thing I notice was windows 10 was not installed already and that's what I paid for so I did it myself no problem. As school goes on I notice my PC was getting slow. And then one day I got the blue screen of death after 3 months. Went to take the pc back here and was informed I did not have a SSD. So bought one for about $150 and they also installed it. I was certain I paid for that initially. When I got home my memory is almost maxed out. Seems like he duplicated everything on both HDD AND SSD. The reason for this review is because my pc is not compatible with Windows 11 and I bought this pc in 2021. There's no way my $1800 2021 PC is that outdated. Gone are the days of the local 5-star PC shops that can give you awesome specialized service. The ones in I remember in Katy from the late 90s are all BSOD. Unfortunately, that typically leaves places like 1-star Fry's and the cursed Bleep Squad from 1-and-a-half star Worst Buy. Thankfully, there is still Microcenter that hasn't gone the way of CompUSA. No idea how they compete against online retails (like Newegg and/or Amazon) in the parts department, but they do keep a decent amount of stuff in stock for upgrades. Watch for the sale prices, and sometimes you'll get VERY good deals...like the Crucial 500GB SSD that I needed just the other day for an emergency laptop rebuild for a friend. Price was exactly what you'd pay when Amazon/Newegg slashes their price on the same drive....and I can get it the same day. Also been impressed with their in-house Inland SSD drives that I've been running lately in a 3rd desktop for about 3 months now. I'm sticking with Samsung and Crucial for critical data machines, but it'll be interesting to watch this develop over the next 3-5 years, as everything seems to finally be shifting to SSD. I hope these Inland drives turn out ok because it could become a big selling point for the company if they develop a good reputation. Personal service from associates is WAY WAY better than Fry's -- although that's a fairly easy bar to beat!! -- and it's easy to find a friendly associate to get what you need. Only thing I don't understand is the shirt and tie dress code. Too much Fry's deja vu, maybe?!?! MicroCenter should take a look at what the Apple and Microsoft stores do with the polo shirts and change accordingly. I'm sure the store associates would appreciate the more business casual look, and I doubt it would affect sales. Only complaint is they need to do some work on their display section in the center. Decent display of desktops and laptops...but pretty paltry selection of tablets to sample. Considering how big the tablet market has become, seems to me that Microcenter ought to develop this space and make it look cleaner. For example, none of the new Ipad Airs out to display in their Apple section. All and all....if you don't know anything about the computer business and need something local in Houston to help you get a computer, I'd go here before going to any of the other big-box stores. read more

I've gone to their both locations and the new changes to have been great. It is a bit far but service you get is great. I've purchased several items throughout the years and prices has been on par. Recently bought a computer around 2019 and Brian was great help and let me have time to decide and think about my purchase as well without any pestering or no pressure given, giving you a great experience. I'm just glad there is one here in Houston as when needed, having one close by helps a lot. I love Micro Center for purchasing computer components and other technological needs. I find that their sale associates have a pretty good understanding of what I need and what product best fills what I'm looking for. But their repair center needs a lot of work. For starters, the repair on my computer took about a month to complete. I brought it in on 9/20, and I got it back on 10/19. I understand that we're in the middle of a pandemic; things are busy and I'm sure that there is no shortage of tech problems to handle. But I was not updated on any progress on the repairs. I had to contact Micro Center in 3 different ways (online chat, text, and e-mail) before I got my repair number and some form of contact information. This took about a week and a half. From there, I was told the motherboard was bad, but luckily it was under a replacement warranty so I could pick a new one and deduct the cost of the old motherboard. Ok, at least we're getting somewhere. I was told I can expect the repair to be finished within 2 days. But then I heard nothing for a week again. So I bugged them again. This time, they said that the motherboard wasn't the issue, so it was likely corrupted Windows files. Since it was taking so long, they'd waive the reinstallation fee. Sure, that's fine. It's been 3 weeks, but at least I have something to go off of now. The next day, I was contacted by them. They asked what GPU I had in the system and whether I had a side panel. Interesting questions, but I told them the GPU model and that I did have a side panel. The tech said they may have misplaced the panel, so I had to choose out another case that was about the same MSRP as my current case (roughly $150) and they'd put it in the new case. At this point, it was getting ridiculous. Fine, I want my computer back. I gave them a case to use and hoped that was that. The next day, I was contacted again. They had found the side panel to my case, but they could not find my GPU. The tech said they'd replace it with a 1660S. The GPU I had was a 1070 Ti. The 1660S is not, as the tech claimed, the better card. Frame for frame, it's about 15 to 25 percent weaker. From an MSRP standpoint, the 1070 Ti was $450, the 1660S was $230. Not to mention the 1660S had 6 GB of VRAM when I wanted at least 8 GB of VRAM. I contacted the tech soon after and told him that I wanted a different card to suit my needs. He said we could review the option when I picked up the computer tomorrow. Went in to pick up the computer. I told them the situation, and they said that they'd have someone replace the card. Later, I was told that the card they were going to use was purchased (it was a 2060, which still didn't fit what I wanted), so they had me pick out a card. They did not have any 2000 series NVIDIA cards, so I picked out a 5700XT, the closest card they had to the original 1070 Ti I had. Still feeling a bit frustrated, I just wanted to get out and continue running errands for the day. When I got home, I didn't have time to boot the computer up; I had to make dinner and an evening class. When I finally did boot up the computer, I noticed something off. The computer detected two GPUs, the 5700XT and a Vega 8. My original computer had a Ryzen 3600, which does not have integrated graphics. Only the Ryzen G series had them, all of which are strictly worse CPUs than the 3600. Opening up Task Manager, I indeed found that my CPU was now a wimpy 3200G, rather than the 3600 I originally had. At the time of this review being posted, I have yet to bring in the computer to get this fixed, as by the time I found out, they were closed for the day. I plan on bringing it in tomorrow. I know they have plenty of 3600's in stock, so I know that they'll replace the CPU with what I originally had. But this shouldn't have happened in the first place. Between taking a month to finish the repair, losing my GPU, and sending me home with a worse CPU, this entire process has been a nightmare. I am highly disappointed with my repair experience at Micro Center, and I may not bring back my devices to be repaired there again. read more

I was super pumped for their Ryzen and Motherboard deal! I arrived on Black Friday had everything in hand (RAM, Motherboard, CPU cooler, Fan's, I was also going to get a case but they were near the checkout line so saving for last). I approached about the Ryzen processor I wanted and they were completely out. I asked if I could just back-order them or something and the answer was NO. I put everything back and walked out. NewEgg and Amazon had similar pricing and deals of their own. What I'm saying is, just purchase online if you really want something so even if it's out you can still backorder. Have been a loyal customer here for years. Yet, on a recent return, at 6 business days my card was not credited with the original purchase price. Online competitors offer credit while the return is in transit, often the same day as the return is screened on its way back. This increased financial float of customers refunds will tilt me away from microcenter, where the line for return and the physical trip is penalized with extra days wait for refunds to be credited. read more

Micro enter has failed to do what thousands of retail businesses have been able to do: put into place a process for customers who make online purchases to efficiently pick up their purchase. After shopping online, making a purchase, arranging to pick up the purchase and receiving an email confirming that it was ready to be picked up: I drove over 30 miles only to be told that I would have to wait outside the store for 1.5-2 hours with 20-30 other people (masked and unmasked; and definitely not social distancing) mingling around the entrance to the store until I could be allowed in to pick up my purchase. If I left the area, I would lose my opportunity to enter the store. Many, many other retailers have figured out how to connect people with their online purchases via pickup without endangering them in an unmanned scrum of people outside the entrance to their store. You would think that a customer who has taken the time to shop online and make their purchase in advance would receive some consideration over customers who are shopping and may or may not make a purchase. Micro enter needs to catch up with the rest of the retail world and give appropriate consideration to their customers. read more

I was pretty intimidated walking in- I'm not very knowledgeable about computers and electronics and wasn't entirely confident in what I was doing (a VERY helpful guy at the Genius Bar kindly suggested to me that I'd save a boat load of cash installing my own hard drive rather than paying Apple to do it for me, and gave me some instructions on how to accomplish this successfully) First of all, it took me a while to find the SSDs and not one of the employees who saw me wandering around bewildered offered to help. Even when I found the correct case, I waited around for about 20 minutes to get it opened, and the guy I talked to was not very helpful when the brand I was instructed to purchase wasn't available in the size I wanted. Luckily, another guy from a completely different department came by and reassured me that the alternative I selected was just as good, which is why Micro Center gets the second star. read more

Why is it the same scenario every time you visit? Employees standing around talking with each other. Meanwhile a customer is standing in the middle of the laptop computers looking around for help. Crickets. I eventually went to checkout area (always 3 of 4 people there standing around) and ask if it was possible to get some help TO BUY A COMPUTER. If you are the manager of this store or if you are above that on the Micro Center food chain, GET OUT FROM BEHIND TOUR DESK AND TRAIN YOUR FLOOR SALES PEOPLE A FEW CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS.
