Sales Moses Diaz was our sales associate and he did a great job. He was patient, well-informed, and professional. He was far and away the best part of our Micro Center experience. We had considered price shopping, but Moses was so exceptional that we just made the purchase. Selection I'm no expert on computers and accessories; however, Micro Center seemed to have the proverbial something for everyone. We also bought a wireless mouse and laptop sleeve. Plenty of choice for all products. Service We wanted to upgrade our RAM and the service department did a great job on the actual install, it was the pick-up that was clunky. We asked for a text message but got a phone call that we could not take. Which meant a long time on the phone trying to figure out why Micro Center called? Then, the actual pick-up took 20 minutes. I have had the same issue three times. They tried reinstalling windows and it does not work. I went to chat tech support and their suggestion was to reinstall windows. I explained that it did not work the first time and that it most likely will not work now. I explained it three times and still they did not listen. Brought an overheating computer to the "knowledge bar" for repairs. Daniel was polite and knowledgeable and helped get us checked into the system on a Saturday afternoon. He let us know that a tech wouldn't be able to get to our computer until Tuesday and to expect a call then with the results of the diagnostic. Tuesday we were contacted by Cory who explained her findings and had some ideas to try. She mentioned that Wednesday was her day off but she asked a co-worker to take the case over. Wednesday came and went, and it was Thursday before we heard back from Cory. Problem solved. She apologized that her co-worker didn't get to our computer the day before as promised. A one day delay isn't that big of a deal and we're very happy with the outcome and feel the $40 upfront diagnostic fee plus the cost to replace the malfunctioning part were actually very reasonable. My wife and I have done quite a bit of business (I.E., spent $$$) with M.C. the past few years, due to their excellent reputation and knowledge. However, in the last 18 months or so, we've bought 2 laptops and a printer; one laptop they finally exchanged for a whole new one, due to excessive problems, and this year we traded out the printer since it wasn't behaving for a new one, although different brand, if I recall. NOW the audio jack on the exchanged laptop has quit working, so I'll need to make a trip for that. Just very surprised and disappointed about all these issues. Not sure if product quality overall just isn't what it used to be (like with so many other items!) or what. I assume they carry the best quality, durable stuff, and that's why I shop there. I'm not a computer geek by any means, and that's why I depend on them, so I don't have to self-assess and attempt fixes on my own. Please make my day! read more

Update !!! Backstory - I went to MicroCenter in Overland Park, Kansas about a year ago to purchase some earbuds. I was super impressed at the knowledge of the sales rep who helped me in the store. So, I purchased the earbuds and the two-year warranty. Recently, the left earbud stopped working and is likely defective. They are still under warranty. The problem is, I am physically unable to go into the store, and I would like to mail them in for a replacement. So I attempted to call the store for specific directions on returns. I chatted with a customer service representative via text (who was likely in another state) and was told he would pass my information along and that the Overland Park store manager would contact me within 24 hours. Well, that has not happened. I just want to have my item replaced within the warranty period which is coming up soon. Please improve your customer service. How do I get someone to call me? Or, should I just mail them in and hope for the best? The update - Someone finally contacted me about the earbuds. As, a matter of fact, two people contacted me. I was first contacted by Annie from Micro Center in Tustin, California. Then, while in the midst of her helping me, someone from the store in Overland Park, Kansas called to make sure I was being helped. Annie was wonderful! She was patient and very thorough in getting my issue resolved. She used every effort (e-mail or phone calls) in maintaining communication so that my earbuds could be replaced. It is hard to get good customer service in this day and time. But, Annie went above and beyond to get the job done. Needless to say, I was ultimately very impressed with their service. Nerd's paradise. Couple caveats... Impulse items abound. They sound good in theory but make sure you actually need them. There's a lot of techie speak going on - if you don't understand what someone is saying, simply ask them to simplify it. They can. Although they did not have what I needed, the selection is impressive. I'm thinking they must have first opened in the 80's aaaaand they haven't changed much since than. Definitely a haven for all the techies. Since the aisles are well labeled I thought I'd take a shot at searching on my own. With no luck went out to the main aisle to flag an associate. I saw several but as soon as they saw me their heads dropped and picked up those heavy hooves accelerating to an impressive speed worthy of the Kentucky derby. Maybe they were already engaged with another customer and could not take on the burden of another. At the customer service desk inquired for assistance. First call put in....5 min wait...second call...wait..manager approaches " have you been helped?" Manager sends me to aisle to wait for help. Walking the aisle again to see if I missed it aaaaand no one shows. As I approach service desk, " oh no one showed", they exclaim. Call put it to assistance....at this point I'm so frustrated with my own impatience, I wanted the item asap but now I'm realizing Amazon will have to do....second call put in...at this point I'm just waiting to be polite...third call...screw this I'm out...and than the specialists walks up " oh no we don't carry that, no one carries that, your gonna have a really hard time with that one". Turn around press a button and it's in the mail. Hard lesson learned, should have called first. read more

Micro Center is a bundle of hardware geekdom. Thankfully behind this beautiful facade is a techie who knows his way around a motherboard and the difference between SD & RD RAM. Now I'm an Apple guy and there's nothing that will ever change that. Micro is focused more on the PC market but they have a pretty great Apple section in back along with an assortment of accessories that had me feeling the Apple Store was lacking on merchandise. I also found a laptop screwdriver set with the exact sizes I needed. This has literally been a Holy Grail hunt but not after a trip to the MC. The assortment of peripherals and related gadgetry is enormous. It puts places like Best Buy and Circuit City to absolute shame, if not just embarrasses them. But leave it to me to request the one thing they don't have - a firewire 800 cable shorter than 10"! Beyond my rather obscure request, this place has it all. read more

I really love this store. I am NOT a computer savvy person especially when it comes to technology and I know I can always go here and find the expertise I need. I appreciate that I can go to microcenter and see the items I am looking for and get the information I need about them. The staff is friendly, approachable and talks to me on my level. I never feel pressured to buy or feel like someone is trying to upsell me, nor do they make me feel stupid. They have always had what I am looking for in stock. This day and age with stores closing left and right, I really hope they stay around forever. read more

Micro Center is a tech nerd's heaven. The store isn't pretty, but it's practical in that it's filled with rows and rows of electronic computer parts. You won't have to leave the store to find everything, or mostly everything, you'll need to build your next super computer. My issue with the store isn't that it doesn't have enough stock, it's just that those who can help you find what you need aren't really there for you. Recently, I stopped in a couple of times looking for accessories for a new computer. I had to work to find an associate and when I was able to track somebody down I was told quite curtly that the associate "was busy at the moment, but I might look a couple of aisles down." There wasn't an attempt to find anybody else who could help me and it didn't seem like anybody there really cared. Noted. I will also note that as much grief as I caught in the store, I had a lot more success using the chat function on the Micro Center website. After describing what I was looking for, the person easily diagnosed what I needed and then gave me a couple of links to options where I could purchase the item. I would recommend that you try this option first before you come down to the store. It might save you a headache. read more

Sweet!!! Micro Center!!! My teammate told me about this place and I guess I assumed there were no Micro Centers out in the mid-west but I assumed wrong. The last time I went to a Micro Center was back in California and that particular location recently closed down so that sucks for my Bay Area friends. lol One thing to know which I found out the hard way was the entrance of this plaza closest to Micro Center has a bunch of pot holes. I didn't see them but I sure felt them. My poor car! Anyways, be careful when entering and exiting this plaza from the Micro Center side. This place was pretty big and had a lot of electronics. The interior was brightly lit and the aisles looked neat. I came here to buy a new heat sink for my desktop computer. I didn't know the layout of the store so I walked around. The left side was dedicated to games and everything relating to games. The back center and right side of the store were for laptops, desktop computers, and computer components which was wear I found the heat sink I was looking for. Prices were cheaper than Best Buy so that was good plus the selection seemed larger. Awesome place to buy electronics and not pay that much higher like you would at Best Buy. read more

I found myself needing a new printer this weekend as my old one suddenly stopped working so I decided to check out Micro Center. Before going and I did not check out their website but they must've been having some great sales because it was very busy in there. They did not have nearly enough staff helping to run the check out lines and provide customer service. The store was neat and clean and easy to find what I needed pretty quickly and I found the prices to be extremely fair. I did not know that they had quite the selection that they did so I will be returning here in the future for any of my technology needs! read more

Purchased an incorrect replacement battery for my laptop, as was specified by the sales associate. Took the battery back three days later without a receipt. Complete debacle. It took three associates to relocate the correct replacement due to their disorganized inventory of batteries. It took four people to approve the exchange. read more

Just browsed around the computer monitor section for a while and I guess the people supposed to be helping customers were too into their conversations with each other to come help me. They weren't helping anyone else, just standing there chatting with their arms folded while they watched me browse and walk right out of the front door. No "hello", "can I help you with something" or even a "goodbye" from them. The lady at the register did tell me to "have a nice day" on my way out. Won't be back and I still need a computer monitor. Why?? I don't understand why you would shop here. I drove up today from south Overland Park as I needed a 15ft printer cable that I couldn't find anywhere else. However there was literally a line winding all the way through the store to check out. No idea why. So, while I was in the store I pulled up Amazon on my phone, found exactly what I wanted (and, no kidding, for $7 instead of $25) and will have it tomorrow. He said what's up but when I started to explain the problem he interrupted me immediately. They dont answer the phone!! Basically sent through a an answering machine menu only to be placed on perpetual hold, or disconnected automatically because their answering que is full!! This happened multiple times! Tried on different days. I have had better luck calling the DMV!! Moreover, their online chat doesn't even work! Perhaps Micro Center needs to learn from Garmin down the street and have the ability for the customers to get a call back!! read more

Just over all a pretty over priced store technology store like usual. Most of the staff is socially awkward so don't expect to get a full/straight answer about the warranty policies and such. Ive been shopping here for a couple years now, and have spent my fair share of money, but sadly after my second Lenovo laptop purchased here failed me in expectations. Plus the ten dollar mark up on items like the g pro lightspeed compared to Best Buy. It's a good store if you want to phone parts but terrible customer service. They cannot help you fix or build anything and will tell you the wrong thing or just nothing at all. The management is terrible and won't even except returns except if it's for except for store credits. We were referred to Microcenter by the Apple Store who felt they ( Micro) would have a better shot at repairing mom's vintage MacBook. They were RIGHT! Ryan Thompson is a bearded Apple Wizard ( his card says Service Technician but don't let this fool you) and he fixed this computer right before my eyes. After what the folks at Apple had said, we were preparing for last rites for this faithful machine but with Ryan's help, she lives to communicate again! We could not be more pleased. It was eye opening to learn how much expertise is available at Microcenter- all served with a smile. I did not spot any grumpy IT guys! I left there with a spring in my step and a vintage computer ( 2010) that is ready to do the cyber can- can! read more

Came here to have my hard drive replaced. As someone who is not tech savvy whatsoever I normally dread going to any tech store. Each employee was extremely helpful and patient. The selection here is great. I especially love the reasonably large custom watercoooling and electronics repair areas. It seems that the pre-built computers and large electronics available are pretty exhaustive as well, but I haven't had a need to purchase those here yet. Rock. Yeah, you know who you are. You're the wonderful "Friendly Neighbor" Microcenter manager that decided that $5 was worth setting me off to the point where I would blast you here on Yelp. So the story goes like this. I had been looking for a Logitech MK710 keyboard / mouse combo. Microcenter was one of the few stores where I figured they would have it. So when I get there, I used my trusty phone barcode scanner to scan it and determine that Office Depot (literally down Metcalf) had it for $69.99 instead of the $99.99 Microcenter was quoting. So when asking the cashier about a price match, she contacts Rock whom under normal circumstances, would price match my keyboard and then I would go on about my way a happy customer. wro . . . . . . .WRONG . . . So Rock decides to tell me that the best he can match is $74.99. So I asked him again, emphacising that Office Depot has it for $69. You don't want to make up a $5 difference? THIS is my happy place. Forget Best Buy, forget Radio Shack, even forget *gasp* the Apple store. This is Disneyworld for geeks everywhere. You can get everything you need here, down to a missing screw in the back of your PC. They have EVERYTHING! Cables, memory, hard drives, motherboards, optical drives, printers, video games, networking and more. There's an entire section devoted to Apple that carries more than what the actual Apple store does. If I'm looking for something specific, I'll check here first. And it gets better! I know, right? How is it possible?! You can go to their website, check what you're looking for and it'll tell you whether they have it stock or not! AND you can buy it on the website and go pick it up from the store in 18 minutes! As you can see from my generous use of exclamation points, this place gives me a geekgasm. Here's why I like Microcenter: My laptop died...boot manager corrupted, or something...and I needed a new computer. A friend of mine suggested building my own do I can get exactly what I want and more than likely spend less (sidenote: he was right). So began the research. I read articles,planned, read product review after product review, priced around...long story short, I probably put more thought into building my own computer than I probably will when the day comes that I have to decide if I want kids or not. The day finally came that I was ready to start building. My research was complete and I had made a list of what components to buy and where to buy them. Off to Microcenter I went, list in hand. I was there for two hours and not because I was clueless and couldn't get any service. I was there so long because the guy who helped me went over my list item-for-item, cost-comparing, performance advising, what was too much, what wasn't enough......We were on NewEgg, Amazon and their website see what would be the best match for me. All I'm saying is, if I had gone into Best Buy with such intentions, I would have gotten sales pitches. These guys know their sh**. My first visit (prior to building my computer), my aforementioned friend spent an hour talking to one of the guys about graphics cards. They won't give you sales pitches and bullet points off an item's sale/spec sheet. They know what products work and don't work because this is what they do - they build computers. Here's a quick conversation comparison: At Best Buy (this is almost word for word): Me: Hi, I need a computer. Rep: What kind? Me: Don't know. Rep: Well, we have these blah-blah computers. Me: Are they good? Rep: People seem to like them. Me: Are they fast? Rep (looking at spec sheet): Says 2.8Hz. Is that fast? Me: Is it? At Microcenter: Me: Hi, I need a computer. Rep: What kind? Me: Don't know. Rep: What do you want to do with it? Me: Play games and write. Rep: What kind of games? Me: (gives list) Rep: Well, you want something with a fast processor and good RAM. Do you overclock? Me: What's that mean? Rep: It means you can adjust your processing speed...(goes into more detail) Me: Does that make it faster? I HATE a slow computer. Rep:You may want to consider an SSD for your OS to increase processing speed. Me: Oooh, tell me more...
