Save your money and go to the Geek Squad or find a private person. I have a "vintage" IMAC that needed a new hard drive. The thing is in mint condition and nothing else was wrong with it except the hard drive. I brought it in for a new drive. I paid $60 for the service and $40 for the hard drive, which was a fair price. The first time i went check in to help was maybe 15 min. I picked up my pc the next day. There was no OS on it so when we turned it on all seemed well. But when I took it home and installed hte OS on it, the fan went crazy. There were NO other problems, especially not with the fan, when I brought it in. So the next weekend I lugged this 30-40 pound machine BACK to Paterson, waited about 40 minutes BEFORE anyone even saw me, only to be told that I would have to pay to have it diagnosed and if they found it was something they did, they would reimburse me. This company does NOT stand by their work. The manager, a woman whose name I didn't get, was completely useless and not willing to stand by the staff either (and her customer service attitude sucked). She was adamant that I needed to pay AGAIN, How was I going to prove whose caused the fan malfunction? All I can say is it was fine when I brought it to them and not fine when I got it back. I couldn't prove it either way, but the fact that the computer was there with the support sticker still on it from the week before should have been enough for them to say, ok we will look at it for free. If the fan just needs to be adjusted we will do it. There was no one above this useless manager willing to help me and it was about an hour of wasted time on a valuable Saturday afternoon so when she went in the back and didn't come out for 15 minutes, I took my computer and left. I will never, ever go back to them and I'd advise you to heed my warning. I will never give my business or hard earned money to a company that doesn't stand behind its work. I should also mention that I run a tech support desk for a large hedge fund, so I have plenty of experience fixing computers and this aspect of the business. I didn't want to do this one b/c on an imac the glass has to be taken off the front and I didn't want to risk ruining it since I am selling the computer (nor do i have the proper tools). Also, it was a busy saturday and they had 2 people on the customer service desk. One couple was there monopolizing the service guy's time for the ENTIRE 40 minutes that I was waiting to be seen. There were 10 people behind me by the time i left (you can see names on the screen while you are waiting). My mother, who was with me, went to find a store manager to ask that they put another person behind the desk to alleviate the line, was told someone had just gotten in but was so rude to her and said "it takes time for them to get ready." Again, I work in technical customer service, i'd be fired if I ever treated my users the way I was treated. Reading the other reviews I see I'm not the only one. This store in Paterson has everything you need, but the service is so bad and the lines are almost always so long that it would be quicker to order what you need on Amazon and have it delivered. It's just not worth the aggravation anymore. The employees (the ones you can even find) don't care. When you have a question, they are so understaffed that they just keep walking. It is always a bad customer service experience....but people keep going there because they literally have everything you need when it comes to computers and electronics. This place is the worst establishment I ever been too. All I wanted to do was drop my laptop to get my screen repaired which took two hours. When I finally talked with the technician he told me the cost will be $300. The next day another technician called and said the real cost is $500, now i have to drive 30 minutes back up to Paterson just to pick up a laptop they did not fix. As others mentioned, you can't beat the price. Further, most of the staff seem fairly knowledgeable of the products and are willing to answer questions. However, the customer service and responsiveness is the worst I have ever seen. If you call, you must leave a message (which may never be returned) and cannot speak to a representative about returns, current inventory, reserving products, or technical questions about products. Also, their so called knowledge bar is filled with blunt, abrasive staff who yell at you if you are not immediately present when they call your number (it felt a lot like waiting at a DMV). My room mate also had an atrocious experience. He had a custom computer built by micro center (totaling more than $2,000) and they had neglected to install major part. So, he had to go back and get it fixed at which point they accused him of screwing everything up. Flash forward a week, and his computer began crashing and running very slowly. He brought back a total of three more times before he finally got so frustrated he just returned the whole damn thing. While the staff did price match the Power Supply that I purchased with Amazons price, I was continuously disappointed with the staff during my visit todat. They are the most ignorant staff I have ever seen. They seem to work in slow motion. I walked up to the staff members, who were all huddled together talking rather than working, and I asked them about a motherboard I wanted to purchase. Instead of someone checking their stock, they merely glanced at each other and shrugged their shoulders. Next, I went to the knowledge bar to ask a question about a CPU I own, and I put my name in the reservation and waited. When I was next in line and the guy had finished, instead of talking to me next, he just started to put away files and organized behind the desk. It was almost as if he was trying to avoid me. I think both of these issues that I experienced today was because the staff only wants to talk to specific people, and when the staff did decide to talk to me, the talked down to me most likely due to my age. I went in today to buy 4 desktops at $479 per desktop. The one caveat was the price was limited to 1 per household. The salesman was very helpful and tried to have the 1 per household waived. He talked to a manager and the manager told him that they would give the $479 on 3 desktops and the fourth would be at full price. I left and then went home and bought the 4 desktops from Dell at $479 per desktop with free expedited shipping. What a mistake by Micro Center. They lost out on $1900. It's a love hate relationship with this store. I refers to this as the West Coast Frys. Deals are great when offered but just make sure the product is not refurbished. It's a computer geeks dream when entering the store because the gadgets are lined up. I was able to score an I7 laptop for $600. You can't beat the 3% sales tax either. The reason for four stars is because I bought an ASUS transformer tablet. Tablet stop working less than a month but I was able to get a refund with no hassle. So why not five. Felt I was scammed! Will never return to this place! I purchased a tablet from this place as a Christmas present. I was sold a warranty that said if anything happens to the device, I will get a replacement. 2 months later the device doesn't work. I go to return it and had to wait 20 minutes on the customer service line before I walked out! Not enough staffing at the customer service desk. I returned prepared to wait and was told that the tablets were out of stock and to check back in a few weeks. 2 months later (4 months after purchase) I go back and now they don't carry the same model!! They have a newer model which isn't covered under my warranty!! So I was told I had to pay the difference of $80! What the point of selling warranties that won't be honored?! I loved this store and talk it up to everyone but not anymore. I wasted over an hour trying to find the GPS units and hopting someone who works there might have a clue. First I asked the Customer Service person. She was completely disinterested and said to ask a manager whoever and whereever this person is and may be located. I then asked someone in a suit jacket with store name tag and she said they are in the television department. Then the guy in tv's said it was just past a certain sign, you know, where the GPS' aren't located. Aside from getting the wrong info from these people, I couldn't get anyone who was free to help me. I walked out and picked up a GPS at Staples. That experience only took five whole minutes. I came in and had a data backup for my MacBook by Microcenter a few days ago...they gave me an external hard drive with Mac compatibility only. I found out when I went back home and tried using it on my Windows computer - nothing was detected. I go back today and found out technician set up External Hard Drive for Mac only. Microcenter did that automatically, not calling me with updates on if I want Mac or Windows type of External Hard Drive. Incompetent sales associate and service bar manager blaming, re-iterating that the problem was my fault. Offered me a $30 discount on a mistake technician made when handling my old MacBook data...wanted me to pay $100 to format it again. Got to big too fast- this store would be fantastic if they hired about 3 times the staff. They are SEVERELY understaffed and it is starting to really hurt them. I have been a regular customer there since they opened and I always tried to give them the business over Newegg but I just can't anymore. The customer service has gone from good to horrific, and in their defense I would be pretty short if I was that overworked too. On nights when the service counter should have 6 people there is never more than one. Finding a salesguy who doesn't already have 10 people in line for him? good luck. Don't bother ordering on line for pickup, their 18 minutes pickup may end up a 3 hour waist of time. You will spend 15 minutes checking their website for what you want and believe you found what you want and make the purchase. Now you wait for an hour to get the confirmation. you drive to the store that is another 15 minutes, then wait on line for 30 minutes to find that your order is not ready, you'll wait another 15 minutes for your order to arrive to the pickup window to find that the item they are trying to give you is open box not new, then spend another 20 minutes trying to get the correct item. It would have been faster if you checked their website for what you want and made sure they have enough of it in stock. drive down and pickup what you want yourself pay for it and go home. there you saved your self the aggravation and 2 hours of time. I LIKE Micro Center. I REALLY DO!!! But C'mon, folks.....read your REVIEWS!! And GET the MESSAGE!! People generally LIKE the store, low tax zone, selection etc. - as long as you get the RIGHT PERSON, either Sales or Service, it seems. The STAFF needs to be better TRAINED, efficient, knowledgeable and professional- and are NOT always. I have had good experience w/sales staff in general. And the store- needs to be better managed and organized, it would seem. EX: Today I called just to find out the status of an iMac I have in for repair. 'My' tech was unavailable, and it took the person who answered my call ('M') about 10+ minutes and 3 separate times being put on hold just to find out A) If it was DONE, B) When I could pick it up WHEN my tech was available, and C) What the final CO$T WAS, which he never COULD tell me. Pretty sub-par. Another time I took the SAME unit in. Dead. THEY said it needed a New MOBO, but being now OUTDATED it was now unavailable from Apple. (And $500.+, btw). So I got a 2nd opinion. Turns out it was the power supply, NOT the motherboard at ALL. MY guy fixed it. Perhaps I should've gone BACK to him. But- maybe it was a fluke. They DO seem very efficient, Nice AND professional every time I've taken something in for repair. I just haven't had great luck with the end results always. Will I condemn the WHOLE STORE? Hell no. They have potential, and I'm SURE a lot of good, caring, and knowledgeable staff. They just need to be BETTER TRAINED and Consistent across the board, and held to a higher standard of courtesy and service, perhaps. The store could use some TOP-DOWN organization, too. That employee then had to go in the back and get something to move the pallets out of the way so he could get to the locked cabinet. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! No one acknowledges you. I asked for help with GPS systems, simple question. I got sent to the back of the store and was told to "ask someone there" . I did... figured no big deal. As I asked someone in the back in the aisle i was told to ask "any guy in a white shirt in the middle of the store" so now I start to get mad and bite my tongue to kindly say thank you as I go back to the middle of the store. I ask a guy in a white shirt and he says "I will find someone for you, we took them all off of display because the display is non-functional" he then tells me to wait here and disappears for 5min. When he comes back he says "I texted someone to come help you." He MUST NOT BE CAPABLE of helping me with a GPS and the 6 other employees I see standing around bullshitting cant either, plus the other 2 I asked previously all must not be a GPS PROFESSIONAL hahaha. I just want to look at what they had and buy one. I was going to make a purchase! My total wait time since I first asked is now 15 minutes. (and still haven't seen or been shown or told where to find one). As he is standing around me chatting it up with some female employee, still not helping me, he turns to me and says "do you know which one you want?" I said nope that's why I am trying to look at them and decide! He says "well u just want a cheap one right?" As a tech heavy person, I love this place. It's got everything New Egg and Tigerdirect have without the worry of ordering online. Although I do have to hand it to New Egg on their return policies, Microcenter matches their prices and you have it in your hand that day with no chance of delivery problems. I wouldn't count on the staff matching the expertise of an experienced techy or computer science grad, but they are helpful when you are looking for a deal or trying to find something in the store. I once got over 40% off on a monitor because a staff member helped me out. Parking's a pain in the ass on Sundays. Always 3.5% sales tax thanks to the Paterson retail incentive program. read more

Went in to Microcenter to purchase a graphics card. They did not have the one I wanted new, but noticed on their clearance rack the one I wanted was available as an open box. I went up front with the graphics card which was in protective wrap to inspect it to make sure it is in good condition and purchase. When I arrived up front, I asked the lady at the checkout if she could open it for me so I could check the condition. I was told that even though the box was already opened that I could only open it after I purchased it and that if it was not in good condition I could return it. At this point, I was just shocked that they would actually expect me to buy a used open box item without seeing it first, and asked again nicely if I could just see the item first. She replied, very rudely, that it is the store's policy to not allow the product to be opened until it is purchased. Again shocked, I asked to speak with a supervisor, who I found out was standing behind me the entire time but decided not to intervene. The supervisor then told me, very rudely, "It is the store policy, you need to buy it first". I replied, "That's fine, I will just go buy this elsewhere." The rude supervisor replied back "OK then" and rolled her eyes at the same time as she walked away. The interaction I had with Microcenter today is completely unacceptable. I am shocked that there were 4 employees, including a supervisor who were not dealing with customers and actively listening to this conversation, yet none of them decided to step in to make the situation right. If it is truly your policy to not allow customers to inspect an open box item before purchasing, then you should be ashamed of yourselves. This is not the first time I have had a bad experience with this company. I had called months earlier to corporate to let them know of their bad customer service dealings, which they obviously did not care to look into. The store is dirty, the items are not kept in order, the customer service is nonexistent, and when you ask for help in the store the employees try to hide from you. Even worse, when you go to the checkout counter to make a purchase, you are disrespected by employees AND management. It is evident that the problem at this store stems from the STORE MANAGER, as I have never been at the end of a good customer service encounter from the many purchases I have made from them. It is a shame that this company not only has no respect for the customer, but that they are enabled by the management team to provide such a poor level of customer service on all levels. To give you some background, I have worked in customer service for years. I have retail management experience and this goes against anything I have ever trained my employees. You should be disgusted by how your company treats customers at this location. I just had a terrible experience buying Dell. I bought a "new" xps 13inch laptop last week on Saturday and used it for this past week but the screen was getting glitchy, flickering. So I returned it today for a new one. I brought that home and had trouble booting up. It finally booted up but couldn't connect to wifi. I ran troubleshooting and it said bad hardware or driver. So, as the box it comes in instructed, I contacted dell customer support. It should be called Dell customer torture hotline. Broken english operators really don't know anything. But anyway the computer I just took home turns out has an expired warranty and after a long time on the phone with them they said that Microcenter is a reseller and it's not the same product as if I bought from Dell directly. They said it is refurbished or used!! That's why it has no warranty. Microcenter hides this fact well. I had no idea I wasn't buying a brand new computer. It's really criminal and the funniest part is that they have that giant Dell area in the store so you feel like your buying direct from Dell. I voiced my opinion and complaint to dell and they literally couldn't care any less if they tried. So in short 1star for microcenter....i'm totally done with them. RUDE!!! I waited over 25 minutes for any type of customer service. I was in the market for 3 televisions. Finally I grew upset and went to the front to look for a manager. Thats when I met Leibys Tavarez, alleged manager. He was VERY RUDE AND DISMISSIVE!!! He is a poor representation of what a manager is. He totally dismissed my concerns and totally walked away to help someoene else as if I didnt matter. He did not address my concerns at all. As someone who works in customer service there is a level of professionalism that is to be expected that he failed to execute. They need to do better. I purchased a new SSD Acer laptop from Micro Center in October 2016 and only used it occasionally. In June this year it would not boot - keyboard would light up, sound for a second, then nothing. One year warranty. So I called Micro Center before sending it to the manufacturer (my BIG mistake) and was cheerfully advised to bring it in as the store is an authorized Acer repair agent. An hour drive later on June 7, 2017 I went to the Micro Center "Knowledge Bar" and the tech strongly suggested I send it to Acer as it would be "quicker". No I said, I've driven all the way here at the instruction of the fellow I spoke to in your store - please fix it as you're an authorized repair agent (duh!). A few days later the tech assigned to my machine called at 10 pm (yes, for the times I was contacted, always at 10 pm!) and said I needed a new motherboard and he would order it from Acer, week to 10 days. Two weeks later I got a call it was ready to pick up. So another hour drive to Paterson, the fellow at the Knowledge Bar tries to boot the machine - still does not work! Back into the shop under a new repair order. Another call from the tech still assigned to my machine - 2nd new motherboard to be ordered from Acer and installed. Another week and a half and I was called at 10 pm, to be told the second mother board is ALSO faulty. I asked the tech - do you think - just maybe - it might be something else? No he says, it's definitely the motherboard. Another order from Acer for a THIRD motherboard. Guess what. I was called and told the THIRD board was bad too. What to do? The store offered to ship the machine to Acer for repair, which they did - it came back about a week and a half later and the tech explained in a phone message it was a loose LCD cable (the cable from the motherboard to the display screen). No bad parts, just a loose snap connection. Could have been diagnosed by hooking up a monitor to the VGA port, or examining and resetting connectors. Anyway, this saga took WAY more time than it should, I just got my laptop back on July 20th. Advice: be skeptical of the repair prowess of Micro Center and if you have a repair on your computer under warranty, better to ship it to the manufacturer. BTW, I had no problems with the sale of the laptop, good price and good advice when I bought it, just the usual hassle of long lines. **Prepare for a long review** I have purchased some items from here a couple of times because the prices cannot be beat. I had never really experienced the poor customer service until I had to interact with the staff. My laptop was not turning on due to a defective motherboard and I brought it in for a repair. I had a knowledge expert named Henry who looked at my laptop and was not too personable. At first, I tried to have a normal conversation with him and express my concerns, however, he was being very short and dismissive with me. After seeing a scratch on my laptop cover (from putting it into my backpack) he tried to accuse me of dropping the laptop and continuously asked me if I was sure I hadn't dropped it. Now, I'm pretty sure I would remember dropping my laptop. I also don't know what difference that would have made considering I already brought it in for repair. Regardless, we finally established that I had not dropped the laptop and I proceeded to ask about getting my files backed up. This was time sensitive for me because I had files I needed for school saved on that laptop. I made sure to make Henry aware of that and he explicitly stated that the back up files would be available for me to pick up in 1-2 days. He also said I would receive a call in 1-2 days regarding the status of the laptop. I then reconfirmed this by asking if I would definitely hear back from them in 1-2 days to which he responded yes with a very annoyed voice. After two days I did not hear anything from them. Usually, if I'm told a specific time period in which I expect to hear a call, I give a few days of leeway because I understand everyone is busy. However, because I needed my files immediately and I was told I would have them, I called the store to inquire about my laptop. I left two voicemails because no one was answering my call and did not hear back from them until the fourth day. At that point, I was so frustrated and told them I was going to pick it up the next day and declined repairs and back up. They agreed and said it would be ready for me when I arrived. When I came in, they made me wait quite awhile because the technician had not yet closed my laptop. Apparently they had no idea that I was coming in to get my laptop despite them saying it would be available for me upon arrival. The only good thing was that the Knowledge Expert I had, Andrew Wallace, was fantastic. He was very helpful and understanding which was wonderful after having such an experience. Overall, there I believe this is a good place to go if you want cheap electronics. However, it's really a luck of the draw with getting helpful staff members. Either they are very friendly and helpful or just rude and dismissive. There needs to be some sort of retraining done for all staff members. Communication also needs to be improved because I shouldn't be told one thing and arrive to find out that the other team members have no idea what's happening. Spent two thousand dollars with this company for my PC build and got no help and all run around the service from management when a simple issue needed repairing. After purchasing all my parts and building my PC i ran into an issue where my PC would not post (start) when i used two sticks of RAM. I called in and spoke with tech support over the phone for over two hours troubleshooting and nothing. I was recommended to have my CPU replaced. Seeing as i just purchased the equipment under 2 two weeks prior I wanted it replaced at the store just in case i was installing it incorrectly I can be instructed so. This visit took me more than two hours to complete at micro center with waiting to be served and having the part installed. After all that time spent the issue was still occurring so naturally I had to go home after all the time spent there. Before leaving i was never offered for my equipment to be left there, diagnosed, fixed, and when i asked about leaving it for them to diagnose the issue the service manager told me I would have to leave the PC there and they would not be able to even look at it for another two weeks, when i asked how that was possible being that i came there about a week ago and was able to have my CPU replaced with no wait whatsoever. When i asked the Service Manager this he responded by asking why i never left the PC that day after we changed the CPU and the issue was resolved. This is unacceptable i spent over 2k with them less than one month ago at this point and he wants to find the reason to blame me for him not being able to assist me for two weeks? This is how the treat their customers! Very shameful. (I should add that when this was said to me i asked to speak with the store manager and was told to wait near a certain aisle and he would meet me in that aisle.. well I waited for over 20 minutes and no one ever came!) So I went home empty handed and frustrated after spending all this money and time only to get terrible technical service and even worse customer service in store. Lucky for me the internet wins every time and I was able to quickly fix the issue with the help of some Reddit users by raising the voltage on the dimm slots through my bios. MicroCener Paterson should be ashamed of their management choices. I gave it two stars because the parts pricing is really great and the BYO team there is great as well. But i wouldn't buy another thing from this store after being treated that way and left to figure out the issue myself. read more

After waiting over an hour and a half to be helped, the tech said my less than 6 month old computer - that was purchased at this location - would need to be serviced for $150. After 5 days, and numerous unanswered phone calls, I finally went to the store and they told me the mother board went bad. I will NEVER go to this store again. read more

I work retail so i completely understand where theyre coming from but from a customer service point of view, they have to have the worse customer service and high pressure sales strategy. Yes the company needs to profit off every product but to refuse a sale because im not buying your warranty is stupid since you fail on both service and your return on visit. At the end of the day, u have a budget to meet $wise and refusing sales wont help u meet the budget because ur sales people wont sell products they cant get a commission on! Thats poor management, poor sales strategy(im just trying to keep my job line was pulled), and poor customer service. I hate being lied to and i hate feeling like im forced to buy a warranty without showing me what it really covers besides what you r telling me!
