After diligently answering every question to make an online appointment for a particular day and time I go to the store and find out that it was a waste of time. I could have come earlier and just dropped it off. Also I learned that there would be a $40 charge to look at it (was not on the scheduling screens when I made the appointment) that would not be applied to the cost of repairing the computer. Also learned that it would take 11 days before the computer would even be looked at then possibly another two weeks before it would be repaired. Wanted you to know before you go because the only thing on their site (now) is the $40 cost. read more

I feel claustrophobic when I come here. It's the only electronics store that has a low ceiling. It really makes me want to buy what I need and get the hell out. The only reason I come here is if they carry items that Best buy does not have and that I need. Some things I don't like about microcenter: 1) VERY pushy salespeople. I remember seeing a salesman trying to sell extended warranty to a lady who was going back to live in Iran. He was claiming that there were service centers in Iran that could repair the laptop she was going to buy at Microcenter. For real? I'm sure he was spitting bs out of his mouth and she knew that DAMN well too. 2) Return section is too small. There is usually only one person working and the line is REALLY long (at least 10 waiting during peak hours). I waited 40+min in line to return an item. On the flipside microcenter has a large sitting area where you can wait for a customer service rep to come over to answer technical questions about anything you want. What a great store. Huge. Great prices. Lots of help. They have dozens of employees walking around, and you can't spend more than two minutes looking for something without one of them asking you if you need help. It's great. And boy do they know what they're talking about. I decided to build my own computer for work, and headed to the computer parts/build your own section. They pulled up the webpage of the software I'd be running, and put together a list of components for a really nice build in my price range. Took them home, built a computer for the first time (I had installed an internal hard drive years ago) in 3.5 hours. Yes, I rock, but it was also a great learning experience and fun. And pretty easy actually. Highly recommended. Definitely my go-to place for anything electronics. read more

This was the worst customer service experience I have had in a while. Long story short, I will never work with Micro Center again and I regret buying from them in the first place. I bought a custom-built gaming PC from them at the tail end of 2016. Less than a year later the graphics card burned out and I had to have them replace it. A year later, wouldn't you know, the same exact problem occurs. Quite seriously under near the same exact circumstances (as in opening up the same programs around the same time of day, etc). So I again drive a considerable distance to a MicroCenter to have it looked it. I explain it to the technician, explain the troubleshooting I had done. Gabe was a nice guy, and said they'd have a look at it. I let Gabe know that this was the second time in two years this issue had happened. I was concerned about the health of the computer and the quality of both the parts and the workmanship. As the computer was just out of warranty, Gabe said he would waive the diagnostic fee, but I told him that a refreshed warranty should be granted given the repeat issue and the serious inconvenience I had incurred each time. He said someone would call within two days. No one called. This was indicative of a consistent issue: lack of communication. It's alright if repairs take a while, it happens. What is unacceptable is to keep the customer in the dark. When you say you will call a customer within a certain time frame, you do that. The crew in Rockville did not do that. I had the misfortune to speak to the manager of the help center a couple of times (Matthew was his name, I believe). He was unprofessional from the start, and apparently could not be bothered to answer questions from a customer. His attitude was flippant, to say the least, and he made it clear that he could not care less about the issue at hand. In one call, he actually just straight up hung up on me. He took a pause as apparently the signal to move on with his day. His conduct only further convinced me that spending any more time with MicroCenter would be a mistake. I made this yelp account just to make known my abject frustration regarding my recent experience. MicroCenter has lost me as a customer. I paid a premium to get a reliable gaming computer, I paid so I wouldn't have to build it myself. Clearly I should have gone out of my way to avoid this company. Good riddance. read more

Microcenter is our go to place for all things computer based and they never disappoint. We had to bring 3 sick laptops here to be cleared of their viruses and put back into business. The Tech Bar had one attendant and so when we got there we signed in and with 4 people ahead of us took a quick trip upstairs to walk around T.J. Maxx. Right when we returned we were just moments away from being helped. Irman was a one man show and really handled himself exceptionally well and was the king of multi tasking. He plugged in the computers, showed us our options of cleaning up the computers and telling us that one needed a diagnostic because it wouldn't even go past the start up screen. He was very personable and made the wait very bearable. There is also a great coffee machine to freely partake of while you wait at the Tech Bar. Our computers should be ready in a few days, at least two of them and we were told that they would call us with the results of the diagnostic test on the third one. After we finished at the bar we went over to the Mac/Apple section and was helped by an amazing and knowledgeable associate named Veronica. She knew everything it seemed. There was not a question she couldn't answer and could intelligently and efficiently tell you about everything. I was beyond impressed because you just don't find people like that anymore. She gave us her card and told us we could call her anytime with questions. She is truly a rarity in modern day retail and I highly recommend that you find her if you want expert service and a plethora of MAC knowledge. Another great thing about Microcenter is that they have everything you could want and if they don't have it they can get it. Don't go anywhere else. Why? Because I said so. I took off a star because they really should have more than one person working the repair station/Tech Bar. Irman is a gem because he managed everyone so well and would ask questions to the next person or help someone else while waiting for the computer to boot up or while filling out paperwork. It's always great to be acknowledged when you are waiting. We didn't feel ignored and I don't think anyone else waiting did either. That is all! read more

I love computers and this is the store if you need a fix. It have everything you can think for your computer. My first time in the store I was shocked. I walked through for about an hour. It is a easy store to navigate. Help to the right, check out to the left...and all the computing equipment you can think of straight back. I was really excited to find out they carried APPLES!! Repair and Customer service, is great. They take your computer in check for a warranty, get it out and get it fixed. I have a computer getting fixed now. There is one repair guy that will give you a battle but, He is the coolest guy there and honest. Customer Service is great too, works are everywhere and ready to help at anytime. As far as prices they only thing I can say is CHEAP... Micro Center is very affordable. If you need any computing stuff you should make Micro Center your first stop. read more

Best place for computer parts in the area. It's been years since CompUSA left and I've finally come in here. I've pretty much switched to the Mac line from being a long time PC user. So I tend to hang in the Mac stores or at least apple.com. I wanted a custom machine for Windows gaming and wasn't sure if I wanted to spend much time assembling it. The sales help I had was enthusiastic and helpful. He asked my budget and was really going to aim for the sub $800 level, but saying that we could go up to 1200 - he put together a system that was within $10 of that. And if you want to be lazy, they will put it together for you for under $125. If you are on a tight budget though, skip that, and do it yourself for the experience. Non-geeks, spend the money and have it put together or find a geek to help. Next, it's time to go back to pick up a video card to stick in my Macpro tower. I've already added memory, a 1 TB disk, and a now burned out upgraded video card. read more

The prices here rival internet deals. Large selection of items. Pretty much THE place to go for computer parts and accessories. They also always carry 2600, which is sometimes hard to find. Service quality can be good or lacking, depending on what you are looking for and who you get to talk to. But for people who know exactly what they are looking for, this is not an issue. This is the place to go for DIY computer parts and overall technology browsing. I've built and upgraded many computers via Micro Center's selection of computer parts in the back of the store; if you're unsure of what to buy, just talk to any of the employees in that area of the store. I think they may be getting some sort of bonuses based on what they sell you, though - the employee was placing a personal sticker on each of the parts I bought. I'd recommend this place for more of a DIY computer person myself. The only real con to Micro Center is the very slow Returns line. Get some more staff to work Returns, guys! read more

Awesome store! I bought a custom built PC (which is great) but it had a minor issue. They resolved the issue quickly and easily.

They're pretty good. The prices and selection are quite good. Not Newegg level, but it gets the job done and well worth it to be able to get it that day. The staff are generally unhelpful and kind of bumbling. At one point I actually applied to work there...and never heard back! I guess my salary demands were too high? Anyway I got to know one guy who was good and I would always pick out my own box but find him and let him put his sticker on it. He's since left I think because I don't see him any more. Anyway you have to know what you're looking for, and be ready to spend some time looking for it. The buy it online and pick it up option is OK, won't necessarily go as smoothly as perfect but it does work. They are pretty much the only store of their kind so it's not bad. read more

This is a pretty good place. The sales staff is friendly and knowledgeable (and honest about when they don't know something about a product), and the store is well organized. However, the reason that this place gets three stars is because a lot of the merchandise is kind of junky, and the return counter is slow. Micro Center does really well on a lot of things. They have done well for me on computer memory and on replacement cables, for example. However, I've bought a lot of lemons at Micro Center, mostly when dealing with the lower end brands. I bought a few video capture devices, and they were all junk (and they all went back). I bought some keyboards to replace a broken one: junk (and returned). I bought some internal SD card readers, and didn't get a good one until my third try. In my experience, you really do get what you pay for with stuff here. They do well with name brand items (think big names like Logitech, Microsoft, etc.), though the price points on them are a few dollars higher than you can get on Amazon (but there is the whole idea of instant gratification vs. waiting for it to ship). But when it comes to many products where there isn't a really big brand around like the aforementioned, I've found I do best with one or two price tiers above the cheapest item. I definitely shop there and will continue, but I have unfortunately come out with junk more times than I would like to, and that means returns. read more

Well stocked store with knowledgeable employees. Free coffee upfront is also a huge perk! (At least... I'm hoping it was free; I saw no sign with pricing!) They lose a star due to their online ordering. I've done it twice now, and checking out in that line is slower than molasses. They guarantee your order to be ready within 18 minutes, but you'll spend double the time checking out. And LP; I know you have a very important job, but put more focus on my $200 product, than matching up my $6 memory card! read more

I have had three terrible experiences at Microcenter, and I'd like personally thank James W for being the reason I will never step foot in this store again. The very first time I encountered James I was returning a Christmas gift with the receipt and within the window of which the store would accept returns. He refused, stating he could not accept this return as it was after the return deadline, no store credit, no refund to the card. I showed him on my phone the microcenter corporate extended holiday return policy. He once again refused to adhere to the corporate policy. After calling over a manager, the issue was resolved with James saying, "he was making an exception," and he issued a gift card with store credit. The next time I came to the store to purchase a few items with my store credit, unfortunately, James was the only cashier available. After scanning my items I handed him the gift card, he looked up my account and then said the gift card was invalid because it was not linked to any account. He then went on to say, "no employee would have issued a gift card without linking it to an account." Well thats funny because it was James who issued the initial gift card! After about 10 minutes of going back and forth about this issue, he decided to once again "make an exception" and linked the card to my account and "allowed" the gift card to be used for the purchase. I had some remaining money on the gift card so I returned to the store a few weeks later, crossing my fingers that I would have anyone but James to process my purchase. Sure enough, I was directed to James who refused to accept the gift card as it was not linked to an account. I asked him to lookup my account and he said there was no gift card to be found and accused me of taking a picture of a gift card that was stolen. I was forced to call over a manager who also was unable to help and refused to let me use my gift card because of "security reasons." Its funny to me how they pick and choose when to follow policies and then shame the customer for their own mistakes. After an hour on the phone with the corporate office, we were assisted by the floor lead because the manager left the store in the middle of the issue. If Microcenter likes losing business they should give James W a raise because I will never be returning to this store, and if not please provide training on basic customer service. read more

I brought my iPhone 11 to MicroCenter yesterday because it would not power on all the way and was getting stuck on a reset screen. I explained that I had upgraded and reset my phone using my Mac and it didn't help. The clerk told me, the good news is this is an easy fix and should only take an hour. I had to prepay the $60 service. I ran errands and came back in an hour and was told the tech did a factory reset and upgraded software on my iPhone (which I had already done and didn't fix the problem). The screen was still frozen, we did not have a diagnosis of the problem, I was out $60 and my phone was still unusable.... For another $40 I was told the tech could run a diagnosis to maybe determine the problem. So for $100 your phone can still be unusable! If you take your phone to the Apple store they will do ALL of this for free, and be transparent about their services. If you need hardware/software repairs for your iPhone, don't bother coming here. Just go to the Apple store... read more

It's certainly cheaper than Best Buy; though, Amazon and ebay are both significantly cheaper. Whatever, this place will do just fine, because people like to consult with techies before making a purchase. I have two issues with this place. 1) The sales rep here are so desperate for commission. They will ask if you need help. If you tell them you're good, then they will leave you alone. However, if you tell them you want to know where something is, they'll take you there and then request that you tell the cashier that you received their help... I could have definitely found it myself if I decide to exert a little effort... 2) Why do you need my email so bad? They are so insistent on getting your email whenever you make a purchase. I went to the tech support corner for assistance with a printer & a laptop. The gentleman there was knowledgeable, but, lacking in people skills. Granted, that's not necessarily a techie forte, however, being the "face" of the company, it's a vital skill that the company should teach if lacking. After informing me of their lack of printer expertise or services, there was no suggestion of an alternative store or nearby service or attempt to look one up ( "Miracle on 34th st" anyone ? - Very basic ). Apparently, he had served a previous customer who had then asked to be referred to someone else to assist her. She had asked him a few basic questions regarding who & how to use their services. His answers were short & uninformative - I don't even know if he realized how he was being perceived. read more

I entered the store with suspicion given my deep-rooted hatred of any retail electronics stores and their ignorant sales people. Plus, the store used to be CompUSA, so my expectations couldn't have been any lower. But man, this place is geek heaven! Heaven for geeks looking for any sort of computer part they're after in a modern, retail setting. And it's heaven if you have a thing for geeks, because the store is brimming with the pale and the fashion-challenged. The prices are competitively lower than one you could get at Best Buy or Target, and not all that higher than what you could find online. Most importantly, the customer service is amazingly helpful (although a tad scarce). If you ask someone for help and they find a product for you, they will put their ID sticker on the box so you can always reference them. Brilliant! read more

Tucked away in the Federal Plaza shopping area is Microcenter. You can't miss it; huge sign and there is a TJ Max sign above. I found it kind of funny. Anyhow, back to the real deal. This place is the real deal. Coming from an electronics/technician background, this place was awesome. Lots of geek eye candy around (components, tools, peripherals....). I came in to buy a laptop for my IT courses. They have plenty to look at with all the specs you could ask for. Do your research on their website before purchasing anything. They have lots of good open box and refurbished deals. I saved about $100 on an open box item with the specs I wanted. If you see something you like, ask if there is an open box or refurb. Or order it online and pick it up there Other reviews say the sales people can be rude, but I found it to be the opposite. I was asking some pretty technical questions and they were able to point me in the right direction. Asking the right questions led me to get the deal I wanted. I was at a Best Buy doing some research the day before and although the clerk was friendly, he didn't really have a clue on how to answer my questions. I did notice some customers asking some off the wall, bizarre questions and getting upset at the sales people when they got an answer they didn't expect. Please people, #donthate. Overall, great place to shop for a deal. Intelligent sales people. Store does get super crowded, so be patient if you need a clerk. Good deals await! read more

The last experience I had with this company was back in the summer. I was looking for expert opinion in the field of laptops especially The HP Detachable. I wanted a system with a static drive and decent memory but the salesman kept dodging my request by showing me systems with actual hard drives. I'd like to point out that I went to Micro Center with the intention of spending at least $500. I was ready for a little sticker shock as I was sure I could make a few onsite comparisons and comparisons with their competitors. I was not satisfied. In fact, I took a trip to Tyson's Corner Mall to pay a visit with my daughter and stumbled upon the Microsoft Store and would you believe they had the damn HP front and center?? In fact, the salesperson insisted he show me his skills in knowing his products. I was freakin' blown away. I loved the system and it was well under $400. Today, I have my HP and it has performed flawlessly. Micro Center has a whole lot of 'stuff' and few employees that know the in's and out's of computing. I did notice one thing; gaming is a big thing there. I'm in my 40's and don't play games. I want hardcore computing stuff like crazy, managed switches and routers. That's what I know. I'm an old-head when it comes to network security. I know how to hook 'em up and configure them. Give me a CISCO switch and I can show you some shi*! Laptops may be a dime a dozen to some, but I consider them to be important portable tools for computing. I gave Micro Center a F+ for the constant dumb-factor display in intelligence when it relates to knowledge of products and services. Last word; don't shop there. You're better off getting advice from someone who isn't a salesman and works in the field of IT. read more

Recent terrible experience at the computer repair bar! Employee was rude and tried to rush my service. When I asked questions he got frustrated, went in the back and left me sitting there for 5 minutes! This employee also slammed my charger on the counter when giving it back to me. I informed the manager who provided nothing but lip service so I decided to take my business elsewhere. I will never buy a computer anywhere but at Micro Center! The technical support is the best. I purchased my Toshiba Satellite approximately 4 years ago. In all the years going back there, never has anyone asked me for a receipt, a serial number, or what have you. They just ask a few questions about the problem and hone in on fixing it. Each time I have brought it in for a tune up, I have left with a faster, smoother running computer, which is vital to my work as a realtor. Their prices are also great, and even if you can find it a few dollars cheaper somewhere else, the no hassle support is worth every few extra pennies. read more

This place is the place to go when the guys in the blue shirts don't know what they are talking about! They have great service and great prices. Always have a good experience here. I purchased a computer here and I didn't have my receipt. They found the model by looking up my past purchases and got me the power supply that I needed. The guy was even able to find a replacement that was on sale without me prompting him for a less expensive one. He made me feel like he was my buddy that came with me and had all my best interests at heart. It is this type of customer service that makes loyal customers out of people like me! If you like computers this is your store. If you've ever thought about building your own computer, or buying parts to upgrade your computer, this is the place to go. Not only do they carry a LOT of stuff they have great prices to boot. Not always the cheapest, but if u need something right away it will do. Sometimes things are unnaturally cheap here though. (For example intel corei7 920 CPUs $199! they're like $270 at newegg! I literally adjusted my glasses as i typed that :-P) Their full computers are decently priced too i guess. I don't really pay attention to pre-built stuff anymore since i've had nothing but headaches with them. Once more (with feeling) if you need parts, go here. read more

After I returned home I learned that the first open box desktop computer I bought had no side panel and a broken USB port. I had a terribly rude experience with the text support. They told me a store manager would reach out in 24 hours. After I asked another question, they increased it to 48 hours. The manager did not reach out in regards to my complaint . A manager named Marc did however reach out once I gave a poor review to the salesman, which wasn't intentional because he was great. The manager did not answer me after I responded to his inquiry to the bad review. Days went by. A second manager named Dave then left me a voicemail. He arranged for me to come into the store and exchange for a different open box desktop minus some money off for the trouble. I agreed to this and picked up the second desktop. I traveled the 3 hours home to find the PC did not boot. I decided to cut my losses and return this second broken PC to the closest store and not waste my time further. All in all, the management didn't seem very interested in any interaction. I even asked where the restroom was and the manager Marc couldn't be bothered to look up from his phone to politely address me. The salesman Andrew was great, and couldn't predict that I was going to be given two bad products. The sales floor workers seem great. However the management have a lot to improve on. I won't be returning to the Rockville store any time soon to purchase anything. read more

This store sells broken computers. I came here because they had affordable, refurbished desktop computers, because I didn't need anything fancy, just a minimally functional computer. Well, that was too high of a bar. The computer they sold me managed to turn itself on but it couldn't load the OS, so I had to return it to the store the same day. They offered to help me find another one but yeah, no thanks. I wonder how many times they've resold that same computer without bothering to make sure it actually WORKS? read more

This place advertises free 'tutorials' on their website - but don't bother because they'll likely be cancelled - at the very last minute. Several weeks ago I drove there to seize this opportunity, and after waiting around for a while, someone came over to apologize for the last-minute cancellation. Yesterday I went back for another session, and the rude manager came over to tell us that the 'presenter' would be over in a few minutes; he was just finishing up with a customer. FORTY minutes later, he finally appeared, but stated he only had 20 minutes to spend, even though it was supposed to be an hour-long presentation. I may be old school, but don't announce to the public that you're planning to do something if you don't intend to do it. It's rude and inconsiderate of people's time! Horrible layout, hard to find anything in this one compared to the one in Fairfax. Prices higher than the Fairfax store. Things in disarray, open packages on the shelves, many items out of stock. Flash drive wall was all but empty. Computers were over priced. Very few choices. Check out girl took forever, missed a needed item, we just had her put it aside, wasn't worth the trouble to get it rang up and have another receipt and another transaction. This place is awesome! I come to the Micro center off of Rockville pike at least once a month and I am never disappointed. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, the service technicians care more about fixing your issue than they do about making money, and they always give service with a smile. I was originally driven to micro center when I had a computer issue and best buy was charging $300+ just to look at it. I googled compute repair places and micro center popped up. I walked in and instantly knew this was the place for me. The technicians looked at my computer and fixed the issue for free (diagnostics and small issues they always do for free). I have never had a bad experience at micro center and their prices are always affordable and virtually always cheaper than the competition. If you find a lower price anywhere else, they will match it. I will continue to come back to this micro center and I would greatly advise that if you are in need of technical assistance, a new TV, computer, or really just want to look around and talk to informed techies this is the place. For a few years now, has been my go to place and life saver for computer parts. When I come here, I'm not told by businesssmen dressed up as computer techs that I can visit their online store because they don't stock the part i saw on their site. Why would someone spend the time and money to drive to a store, only to be referred to an online site? Only reason is that they were trained that way. If I wanted to shop using the internet I would've already done research on prices; when I'm visiting a store I'm ready to pick something up. Thanks MicroCenter! Keep it up. I am a fan of the selection but you need to be careful because in most cases their prices are signifcantly higher than other stores. But no store comes even close to matching the wide variety of product and accessories offered at Micro Center. Unfortunately the help isn't much better than you will find at Best Buy except for the fact they actually have enough staff to answer questions without waiting 20 minutes to have someone look online for an answer. Parking is a pain but that is the case for all stores in this shopping center. If nothing else use this store as a reference and then chack pricing at other locations to make sure you are getting a good deal. And if you are an IT professional or DIY geek, the variety of products makes up for the sometimes higher prices. read more
