I paid $40 to these guys for them to tell me there was nothing they could do for my computer. My 2 year-old Cybertron gaming desktop had been experiencing sudden, random restarts for almost a year. Despite being fairly tech-savvy, I'd exhausted all efforts to pin down the source of the problem and/or fix it. After a couple of terrible experiences at Geek Squad, I decided to take my ailing PC to these guys. Even Geek Squad didn't charge an upfront fee just to LOOK at the damn thing. I folded, though, out of desperation. Only to be told a few days later "We couldn't duplicate the issue". That's it. Sorry, you're own your own, kid. Forty dollars down the drain, and this place couldn't even give me a hint of what was causing these random restarts. I'm sticking to indie PC repair shops from now on. read more

After years of shopping, my love for Micro Center has been destroyed due to a warranty not being honored. I was told by an employee to drive all the way to the store to have my part replaced, only to be greeted by a hostile employee denying my part replacement, which was under warranty.I've consistently relied on them for all my hardware needs and gaming accessories, but my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed. I purchased a 2 year warranty for a 3080TI, which has now developed artifacting issues and randomly powers down. Despite my long-standing love for this store, their handling of this situation has been subpar at best. What's even more disheartening is that I've recommended countless friends and fellow gamers to this store, but it feels like they don't care about their customers anymore. It's disheartening to say, but I won't be returning to Micro Center after this experience. I will never recommend anyone ever again. This is no longer my favorite place to shop. read more

I went in to buy a monitor for a new computer I purchased. It was a little crazy as they had received a delivery of video cards and there were 50 people there to purchase them. I went to the correct section and started looking at monitors. After 10 minutes and no one coming to help, there were 3 people standing in the section, I went over. A very nice gentlemen offered to help. He went onto the computer to see what was on sale and that's what he recommended. I told him what I was planning on using it for and it didn't seem like that made any difference. Not a great experience. read more

I will start this review by saying I loved this store until my last visit. I go into the store looking for thermal paste and an ssd. One of the sales reps tells me there is a 1tb for $75 so I decide to go for that. When I get to the counter to pay, I notice the ssd is now $100. I'm not sure who messed up the price, that wasn't a big deal though. The next day I went back to the store with my pc for a diagnostic check since my aio cooler was running at high temps. They told me the diagnostic check would be $54 which I guess is reasonable. I then asked if they could install the ssd I bought the day prior, to which they said that would be $100. $100 to install a ssd that cost $100 is outrageous, especially since it takes only 2 screws to the motherboard....and the actual setup of the drive is achievable by watching a yt vid; which I did when installing my first one. I will add that the technician at the desk also agreed with me that $100 install is literal robbery, and he wouldn't charge over $20 to do it. So, I say fine whatever just install it. When I pick up my computer I am asked if I want to get a $130 protection plan incase anything goes wrong in the computer. My thoughts are why would something go wrong unless the person who was working in the computer messed up? I then proceeded to ask how many people have actually had problems with their pc after and the technician thought of one person who had issues 5 times - 1 person. I didn't get the warranty as I just spent almost $300 at the store. This left a very sour taste in my mouth, I don't know if I will be coming back to the store for the tech support. I am absolutely disgusted with my experience at Micro Center. I have been a computer owner for over 20 years and have never had an issue with hardware. Recently, I went over my budget and spent $2000 on a laptop for professional purposes. I was sold a machine with a faulty charging port. When I brought the computer back to the store, the technicians charged me to have them diagnose it, then said it's would cost $1250 to fix, essentially making a 2000 dollar computer over $3250. When I expressed my grievances, citing that this figure is more than my car is worth, I was told "Sorry, there's nothing we can do. Either get it fixed, or buy a new one". I can not believe a business can ethically operate like this. My only option now is to deal with the manufacturers in Taiwan, and at best maybe send this brand new laptop overseas. read more

In some ways, New York City and its surroundings are the epitome of culture and civilization. In other ways, it's like the boonies. If your parents live on Long Island and you go home to visit them, you usually end up upgrading their computers at some point, at least if you're me. So where do you get parts from? In civilized areas of the world, like Austin, you go to Fry's, where you can pick up all sort of parts at reasonable prices - more than Newegg or Amazon, but nothing like the extortion at Best Buy. But... where do you go on Long Island? Nowhere... if the trillion dollar economic crisis of the last year hasn't killed the myth of the efficient market, then certainly the fact that there's no Fry's in the area certainly should. So in times past I'd actually next day air stuff from Amazon in order to avoid the extortionate prices at Best Buy. This time I decided to ask Yelp for suggestions, and what did I find but Micro Center? It's no Fry's, it's more like the old Compusa before they went mainstream and then bankrupt, but they have computer guts and their prices aren't too bad, certainly better than Best Buy for many things. The prices of their sale items even matched Amazon's prices for memory and disks. So if you end up in a jam and need parts quick, don't go with gritted teeth to Best Buy, pay Micro Center a visit! read more

I am simply updating this to 1-star due to stupid COVID policies. They aren't taking returns of microphones, cell phones, headsets, watches, and a few other things, supposedly because of COVID. They post it plenty, it is visible, I am simply leaving this review because at this point in time, any business using COVID as an excuse for any non-sensical policy deserves a 1 star review in my opinion. They try to justify it because you directly talk into microphones and cell phones, not really sure what it is for watches. The only problem is that we've known COVID doesn't spread on surfaces for about a year now. This is also not to mention, that I breathe on literally anything I touch. Laptop? Breathe on it. Keyboard? Probably within air-shot of my breathe. Why not those items? You can find anything you need here to keep you computer(s) running smooth and efficiently at Micro Center. The difference is that here there are enough knowledgeable people behind the counter and on the floor to answer your questions and bring you, that's right folks, it's like having your own personal shopper, to the correct area and individual, if necessary. Even the checkout was good. An orderly line to the register where you're greeted by a smiling cashier who confirms that you were able to get your questions answered and products needed. One caveat... It may not be as easy during the holiday season, but from what I see, I would not be afraid to shop here during the "season." read more

This is probably the best experience I've had buying a laptop. As someone who doesn't know a lot about computers, I felt lost when I walked in today. Jason and Max helped me find the laptop I needed for work. They explained the makeup of the different laptops & asked me questions to help determine what would be best for me. I bought a Lenovo & I feel good about it (it was on sale for $399!) One of the services they offer, is transferring data from your old laptop to the new one, which was perfect for me, because the laptop I have is so damn slow! That cost an extra $100 and it was worth it. I was anticipating I would be there for a while, but the whole process took less than 20 min! I have to go back in a few days to pick up my new laptop, after the data is transferred. Everyone was super helpful & really nice. Highly recommend! read more

This place definitely has all the geeky, computer-themed things you need. They also had fairly decent prices on computers. I'll give 'em that -- but not much else. I've been here a few times before, but this place just about drove me up the wall during my last visit. There's plenty of parking outside, so no worries there. Walk in and -- BOOM -- fluorescent lighting that could make a blind person cringe. Without even realizing it, the lighting going on in this place (in the main area, computer areas, repair areas) could make anyone want to sit in natural sunlight for the next hour to recover. Moving on ... I spoke with a few different sales people about different computers and they all seemed to have this know-it-all, chip-on-the-shoulder attitude. I wasn't quite sure if anyone was being 100% honest about the computers I was inquiring about. I heard conflicting stories from salesmen in the laptop section, since I spent enough time in there, and couldn't help but laugh at how ludicrous it all was. Maybe I'm just paranoid from other skeezy places? I have heard that the salespeople might just direct you toward a certain computer (and away from another), because they want a higher commission. This is a definite no-no for me, if this happens to be true. I did hear them pushing the virus protection services on every customer who bought a computer that day. I ended up leaving empty-handed and didn't return. I think I'll have to do more research before (and if) I return here. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. I came here to get my Lenovo laptop repaired. The issue was that the charging port on the laptop was loose, so I could not charge my laptop. Guess how much they charged for the repair? $1300 I could've bought a newer model of the same laptop for cheaper. What really frustrates me is that they lied about my laptop having serious issues with the motherboard. If I wasn't a Software Engineer, I might have believed them. I ended up taking the laptop to Lenovo themselves, and they fixed the issue for free. According to them, the motherboard was in perfect condition. Micro Center sucks, do not bother coming here. This place is very big. I was a bit overwhelmed when I walked in. They have great customer service, when you walk in your greeted. The customer service booth has very helpful people who are patient and try their best to assist. The store is organized and clean. The have rooms in the back for your major purchases (tv, laptops, etc.) I loved Eric. He was the most entertaining associate I have ever met. He works in the Apple "room" in the far back to the left of the store. I was in there for about an hour deciding on which apple product to purchase and he was with me the whole time. He explained the specs of each item I was interested in and made the comparisons for me. Just amazing. The cashiers are very friendly and very fast for check out. I will be returning to this location because I feel much more comfortable with the knowledgable staff. read more

Microcenter really has everything and something for everyone. From inexpensive bare bones ATX cases which you can build a souped up Ferrari-ish fast server to the smallest tablet, look no further for all of your computing needs. The store flyer that you should grab as you enter the store is chock full of great deals and closeouts. Typically I will give it a quick once over before heading deep into the stacks of software media, printer needs expansion cards, graphics cards, image scanners, drives, microphones, satellite speakers, webcams, digital cameras. RAM everything else. Part of the reason I like to read the flyer is to avoid questions that I may have for a sales associate, when I can answer myself. Even though Microcenter is well staffed the workers are always in high gear, assisting three people at a time and trying to catch one on the fly is no easy task. If you really need help head to the laptop section and begin to toy around with the most expensive machine in there then ask where the CD-RW's are located, or whatever you are actually there shopping for. The store can get a little cluttered and there is a definite warehouse feel during the holiday rush but there really is no retail store that can compare. read more

Whenever the word "Microcenter" is spoken, I can actually see some people's faces light up. This place is a computer megastore. I like how the store is clearly separated into sections and aisles signs are self-explanatory. I love to take advantage of their sale deals because I don't find any other store beating Microcenter's sale prices. Unfortunately, this store is the only one in New York, but luckily, it's within a 20-30 minute drive from me on Merrick Avenue, opposite the Eisenhower Park. The parking lot is shared with Pearl Paint. Inside the store, most of the time, the return line is long. They recently opened up a new service line in the same area for Internet order pick-ups, which is a great service because items online are cheaper than in the actual store, but requires a twenty minute turnaround time for pick up along with the confirmation page. There is also a computer repair line as well. I like the fact that they have a BYOS (Build Your Own System) section. In addition, they have video game, help, and dedicated Apple sections. Microcenter doesn't only sell computers, they sell electronics from TVs, cameras, to electronic appliances such as a refrigerator and washer machines (think Best Buy.) Non-electronic items they sell also include computer magazines, books, and office furniture. Though, I come here to mostly buy cheap blank CD/DVD disks and hard drives at the cheapest prices. Unlike Best Buy, Microcenter does not have a music section and have a very limited DVD section. What I don't like about this place is that the clearance section isn't really clearance. For goods that are opened or returned items and simply repackaged, there is not enough difference in discount from the original price so chances are it's more beneficial to buy a new item instead. It's moderately difficult to find a store rep around here to help you because they are busy helping five to seven customers at the same time. It could be a hectic job for them, and Microcenter does keep track of how many items each store rep sells based on the bar code or sticker placed on the items that are bought, which leads me to wonder if they receive commission. They also changed the store layout of the checkout registers just like what I see at Best Buy stores. Customers line up in one long line and at the end, they are checked out by the next available cashier. While waiting on the snake line, there are a lot of point of sale items to entice customers to buy a little extra. After everything is paid for, the receipt must be shown to the security guard guarding the exit. Microcenter is heaven for those who need their electronics and is more outrageous than Best Buy. They have cases for tablets, laptops, e-readers, etc. They also have all sorts of storage devices (flash drives and such), as well as a repair center. The hours are good and they also have a customer system so if you give your number when they're ringing you up, your name pops up on the screen. The prices are better than that of Best Buy and other electronic stores. The sales associates also know what they're talking about and don't just direct you to an aisle and leave you there to struggle. Went in to Micro Center to check out pricing on some usb flash drives and had to pick up a usb splitter as well. The store is huge and has a very good selection of everything computer oriented. I was truly impressed with the selection of goods. I was also impressed with some of the pricing especially some of the items that were on sale. If you know what you want and do not need any help, This place is great. On the other hand if you need help you might as well shoot yourself. I went over to the rack were all the usb drives were and tried to find out what the difference was between some of the different ones were. I asked 4 different salesman and each was summer thank the next. How can you work in a computer store and no nothing about the products you sell. I give the store 5 stars for product availability and sales prices. I came here today to buy a laptop. My dad is really Into computers so he researched them and found two that would suit my needs and my price point. He gave me the model numbers. I went to the laptop section and a gentleman asked me if I knew what i was looking for, I said yes and told him. He immediately told me they did not have them and tried to show me acer and hp laptops, which I said I was not interested in. He had the worst smelling breath I have ever witnessed in my life. It was seriously foul. He kind of gave up on me after i said I wasn't interested in an Acer laptop he was trying to sell me which was double what I wanted to spend and abandoned me. My nose thanked me, as i didn't have to smell his breath anymore, but that still didn't solve my laptop needs. wandered aimlessly around until another salesman asked if I needed help. I told him I was looking for a particular model and asked if they had it. He looked it up for me and told me he had it and he would be right back. So i waited around for a bit and then he came back and went to help another customer. I waited AGAIN, and finally he says "oh you're all set You can go up front and get it" Um, what? First of all, where up front? Secondly I'm not able to look at it?? I wound up purchasing it because it was a really good price but their service was awful.
