I want to share my recovery journey in hopes that it can help others who, like me, were suffering from pain.
About a year and a half ago, I injured myself at the gym. At the time, I only felt pain in my lower back and tailbone. I had an MRI and X-rays done and consulted with an orthopedic doctor. The doctor said there was mild disc bulging in two areas of my spine, but the imaging didn't show any nerve compression, so he suggested physical therapy to help. However, after attending two highly rated physical therapy clinics for a total of seven months (two months at one clinic, five at the other), I still hadn't seen improvement.
I also tried painkillers, walking, and bed rest, but my symptoms kept getting worse. The worst moments were when I could barely walk for 10 minutes before feeling pain from my hip down to my foot. Sitting for even a few minutes was unbearable, and every day, I'd lie down in the car just to get out of the house. Eventually, my flexibility was gone, and I needed help from family members to put on socks. I felt very depressed, and I wasn't even 30 when this happened. It felt like life had no hope...
Then, I came across Dr. Wang. I chose Dr. Wang among other acupuncture doctors because he was the only one with over 30 years of experience working in a top-tier hospital in China. He also graduated from a prestigious traditional Chinese medicine university, not just someone who had been trained in the U.S. later on. Plus, he's from Beijing, so I felt a sense of familiarity.
Before meeting Dr. Wang, I was quite skeptical about acupuncture. I had tried it once in high school for acne, but it just hurt and didn't seem to help. I also tried other Chinese medicine practitioners in the U.S., but most treatments lasted less than 30 minutes, with the practitioner just inserting needles and leaving, coming back later to remove them.
However, Dr. Wang treated me for 1 to 2 hours each session and was extremely patient. He provided a combination of acupressure, acupuncture, and muscle taping. From the first visit, I could feel that he was genuinely capable of helping me because he was the only one who identified the root cause of my pain: damage to the hip and back muscles, which had become tense over time, forming knots that compressed the nerves. He pinpointed each painful spot through palpation within minutes and explained which specific muscles were affected. Moreover, he didn't just use static acupuncture points; he also used "Ah Shi" points to directly release the muscle fascia knots. Within less than one course of treatment, my flexibility had greatly improved, and after the second course, my life had returned to 80% of normal.
Because I had delayed treatment for so long, my recovery time was longer than it would have been for other patients. Now, I'm able to walk over 12,000 steps a day, commute for an hour each way, hike for an hour, visit the zoo for two hours, and no longer need to lie in bed every day. The next goal is to continue treatment to increase my sitting tolerance.
Many people, like I was, may be skeptical about acupuncture or have had bad experiences with it. I highly recommend trying this clinic, as acupuncture really requires extensive knowledge and skill from the doctor.
Dr. Wang doesn't use social media or knows how to market themselves, so most of their patients come through referrals. They never post advertisements, and they've always focused on providing solid treatment. But I believe they deserve to be more widely known. I hope this review can help people like me. I'm so glad I made that phone call and gave it a try. Otherwise, I really don't know if I'd still be crying every day... I'm truly grateful to Dr. Wang. read more
