I paid ~$175 for diagnostics and an SSD backup, which was unnecessary, as the shop's diagnosis was completely wrong. When I picked up the computer, the owner offered to recycle it on the spot. I declined. The computer was returned reassembled, so I couldn't immediately verify the components. At home, I discovered the original RAM was missing. I called the shop; a junior tech said the owner had done the work and promised a follow-up -- which never happened. To test the system, I installed a single 8GB RAM stick, and the computer POSTed and booted immediately, working perfectly. I then installed two 8GB Crucial RAM sticks, restoring full functionality. This directly contradicts the shop's claim that known-good RAM had been tested and the system would not boot. The only actual work performed was the SSD backup, which I was charged for but didn't need. Had I accepted the recycling suggestion, I would have lost a fully functional computer. I'm sharing this to help others make an informed decision. The shop's diagnosis and recommendation were wrong, and their guidance could have led to unnecessary disposal of a working machine. I had them clone my old laptop to a new Solid State Drive on a new-to-me laptop and I couldn't be more pleased. I had no ( NO!) issues when I booted up the new-to-me laptop. Microlynx, don't normally give bad reviews. Been a while because of COVID. I took my Mac 27" in for repair. Diagnosed with a bad HD. This was an expensive computer. Needed a $1400 new HD. OK considering initial cost. Now up to about $22-24 hundred dollars. My computer will connect to their network but not mine. My home has 6 devices that will connect to my internet and another 20 that will. The tech that came out left a $30-40 USB device to help connect to my internet. Doesn't work. Now, this computer with a lot of money invested sits on my desk not plugged in. read more

Thank goodness I chose the right place to take my imac when it decided to run amuck... just one day after I moved to WA. I'm a freelance retoucher and my client was sending me jobs (with tight deadlines) to work on. After updating some software to prepare for the onslaught of work, a dialogue box constantly popped up every 20 seconds, problem having to do with permissions. After trying to fix it myself through Disk First Aid, the next step (according to online blogs) was to fix it through the terminal. NOPE! Not going to go there! I'm an artist not an IT person. Microlynx left me wanting a better customer experience. Sure Roy is knowledgeable but so is every other repair shop. If customer service is what you value, go elsewhere. After dropping my desktop off one morning because it wouldn't power up I was told they would call later in the day and let me know what they found. They didn't. Next day no call either. I waited until the afternoon and called them. An employee ( Seth) told me that it smelled like burning when they took the cover off and I would need a new computer. I came to pick it up, was charged $38. for diagnostics I did not get and was told they sell rebuilt computers if I would like to buy one. Next morning took the cover off myself and looked inside. No burning smell and nothing looked melted. Googled "troubleshooting power issues". One thing was to check the RAM was seated properly. Long story short, one stick of RAM was my problem. It powered up and has been running fine for three weeks now. I returned to explain to Roy why I was disappointed and it turned confrontational. Doubting what a customer has to say happened is not good business. No I definitely do not know more than Roy about computers but I do know how customers should be treated. He said the office was recorded and he would review my phone call and get back to me. He has not.
