Annette I.

This is the perfect afternoon pitstop when you are hungry for something delicious. The food is fresh cooked so be prepared to wait for the cooking time of what you ordered. The food arrived hot and fresh. The portions were generous and everyone at my table, enjoyed their meal. I absolutely would return.

Lunch Menu!

Good Food Everytime Fish Good, Collard Greens , Mac n Cheese Shrimp , Sweet Potatoes . Reasonable price and Large serving sizes.

Devon J.

I ordered the 5 shrimp and 7 Oysters... The shrimp and Oysters were very very veryyyyyy bland... Literally NO SEASONING! And got the nerve to be charging $18 for it! I like the dinner roll and the Mashed potatoes... The greens are midocre... I probably won't be back!

Great selection
Mark Y.

Soul food, seafood, and Chinese food all in one place... who could ask for more? The fry batter was a little disappointing on the fish and shrimp, but the baked chicken, greens, taters, black-eyed peas and other sides were all outstanding.

Menus for Seafood Dishes, Plates and Combos
Mike E.

Food is great...no complaints there. But make sure you check your order...and how you ordered it. The seafood plates and combinations are all fried. Choices of baked, grilled and broiled apply ONLY to Seafood Dishes...NOT TO THE PLATES AND COMBINATIONS! Or so we were told by the manager when our order for grilled fish came to us fried, despite the fact that our order was taken specifically asking for "grilled". He apologized, but said repeatedly that those choices apply only to other side of the menu where Seafood Dishes are displayed. (Yeah, he and the cashier who took our order could have handled things better, but what're you gonna do...?) I think it is very reasonable to think otherwise, so I'm posting this review with the photos of the menu (notice the choices written in RED). And yes, we will continue to eat here knowing how to be sure to get our options grilled and not fried in the future.

Burnt clam strips

Usually the food is consistent when i go there. But the clam strips i got this were not fresh and half of them were not edible. The other part of my meal was good and they served large side portions that i can eat I for the next two days. The flounder was good on the other hand!

The food is not good. Worst Mac & Cheese ever. Nothing was flavored. I don't recommend. The one in Laurel is way way better. Never again.

After walking in (take-out only), and seeing that there were six people waiting for their food, I was convinced, this place CAN be trusted. So, staff, really nice. Informative, hospitable, and accommodating. As indicated, exclusively "Take-out," so not much attention given to aesthetics. All those waiting raved about the food. People there have been patronizing the restaurant for decades. Again, very good sign. Ordered chitterlings, potato salad, and collard greens. Initially thought $30.00 was a bit much, given I'd NEVER eaten chitterlings "out," BUT, thought about what it actually requires, and quickly changed my mind. The price point is fine. Everything was delicious. Everything. Including the Cornbread. Given I know how to cook, there were obviously some things I would have done differently. That doesn't even matter, this place is my "Soul Food" "go-to." If they can do chitterlings well, they can do anything. I can't wait to try everything else on the menu. I highly recommend.

The baked chicken with hot honey sauce on the side on a bed of rice with veggies on top, Mac and greens as sides was delicious! It was not salty and this is rare and also appreciated! Nothing was salty it was perfect! Chicken was falling off the bone a bit nice and juicy baked to perfection. The hot honey sauce was pretty good that perfect sweetness. Wanted to support this well known black owned restaurant but they need a deep clean and proper upkeep. I did just hear after going that this location has rats so I fear that adds to my reason for not wanting to return. Go try this meal and I hope it's as good as the day I tried it!

I was extremely disappointed. I could barely chew the turkey wing there were SO overcooked and hard! The rice and gravy were really good but that's it honestly! Idk what the ambiance or customer service is like because I ordered delivery from an app but I don't think I'm going to try again unfortunately. I really wanted to love this place but this is like my 10th time trying their food and every time I'm disappointed.

I cannot stress it enough that THIS IS THE BEST BRUNCH I HAVE EVER HAD. The French toast made my taste buds dance every bite. The chicken and waffles cooked to perfection and filled with such flavor. Then the Kentucky Hot Brown is the food you wouldn't expect you needed in your life but you do. The sweet buns were so good I preferred them over the Cinnabon across the street. At that time, I was upset about what happened with George Floyd a week earlier; still in 2026, it was wrong what happened to Floyd (not to mention more recent news that happened in that city was horrible too). I hung out with a friend on that warm day having a beer outside his apartment in Takoma Park. He is a mega-leftist politically (I'm more independent), but said he wanted to support a black-owned business; I said that's a good idea; I might do that for dinner. He was doing his own thing for dinner, so I was on my own. So, I looked up on Yelp what was in the area, and I saw just across the border in DC, Oohh's & Aahh's. Staff was nice, and I got a fried chicken platter. As this was Covid times, there was no dine-in. So, I schlepped all the way straight up Georgia Ave 6 miles back to my home in Wheaton fairly quickly on that Sunday as I don't like my food getting cold. I think my food stayed pretty hot as it was well-wrapped, and if it had cooled off, I could always microwave at home. The fried chicken, mac n' cheese (my favorite vegetable...I know not really a veggie but a joke), etc. were all solid. If I was ever over here, I'd consider coming back; just so rare I go to DC these days.

Period…read more I've been seeing this place all over social media, so when I found myself in the area, I had to see what the hype was about. First off, parking is easy. It's in a shopping center, so nothing stressful there, and the restaurant itself is easy to spot. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean, polished, and classy everything looked. Even though it was busy, it didn't feel chaotic. The staff immediately greeted me and asked if it was my first time which I appreciated. They didn't just rush me through the line; they actually took time to explain the menu, how the bowls are built, and offered samples. That alone made the experience feel welcoming and intentional. Now let's get into the FOOD. Everything looked fresh. They have about four rice options (which is already a win), and I went with the pineapple coconut rice. For my protein, I chose grilled chicken, but they also offer shrimp, salmon, and even a mushroom option for vegetarians and honestly, the mushrooms looked so good I almost switched. For my added sides, I kept it simple because I really wanted to taste everything. Collard greens and sweet potatoes. But they also had plantains, and okra....real deal soul food options. Then you get into the fresh toppings. Slaws, carrots, pickled veggies. I kept it light. I finished my bowl with collard green pesto (which intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried it) and added an étouffée sauce over my rice... and listen!!!!! That combo? Chef's kiss. I grabbed a tropical punch juice, and just like everything else, it tasted fresh and well-made. Let me say this clearly: the food is a 10/10. If you're someone who will give Chipotle chance after chance, then you absolutely owe it to yourself to try Spice Black. 10/10. Worth your money. Worth the hype. Worth the experience.

The mixed veggies were absolutely disgusting-- gave them back. I paid $65 for fried catfish with two sides, fried croaker with two sides, a cookie and two drinks---and sadly, the only thing that was sort of worth it was the cornbread, but it tastes like it has coconut in it.
