I went to the ER with severe back and stomach pain. I'm having a 6th back surgery soon and have had…read moresurgery to remove 1 foot of my colon due to a blockage. I told them I had the same symptoms as I did before that surgery. After waiting 4 hours where at one point there were only 3 other people, I finally left without being seen. One couple was still waiting and they had been there 6 hours. Another woman had been there about the same amount of time. She was very concerned about getting home because she came by ambulance and was in a non-folding wheelchair. One nurse was extremely rude to her and said the place they use to give patients rides home in a case like this was closed and asked if her family could get her. She said no. She was shaking and panicking. I tried to find a business that was still open and had no luck. I then asked on Facebook if anyone could help. A very nice woman agreed to drive from Ankeny to give her a ride! I went to the nurse and told her I found her a ride only to be told they had one for her since she had finally been taken to a room. Why this wasn't explained to us is beyond me. It would have saved this woman from panicking and me from spending an hour looking for a ride for her.

The Doctor arrived and came in to the room wearing a summer jacket and me who he was, and basically told the nurse to start giving me meds to knock me out. Well, before I knew it I was awake and the Doctor was still doing the procedure. I was in so much pain and I told the people in the room that it was hurting really bad and to please stop. I then heard him telling me that I needed to relax, and I again told them I was in pain and it was hurting really bad, and again I was told to relax, I asked them again to stop. The next thing I recall was waking up and my wife telling me that they could not continue because I was not relaxing, needless to say I am furious! All that prep, and all the time that went in to this was done for nothing, just because they could not keep me knocked out, how the HELL are you going to relax when you are having severe pain like that? They recommended that I reschedule and have it done at the hospital and get it done under anesthesia and that was it and they told me I could leave. First thing I did when I got home was call my Doctor and tell her I was done and never getting this procedure done again and there was no way that I was going to go under anesthesia just for this, because the 2 times that I have been under anesthesia, they have had a heard time waking me up and my recover rate is long. I also want to add, that I was told they were very busy and the doctor had 15 colonoscopies to do that day, so I feel that's why they pretty much pushed me out of the place because I was taking too much time. My wife said when the Doctor talked to her, he pretty much blamed the failure on me, so again I was very upset! The Doctor who did this was Doctor O'Brien. He seemed like a nice guy and I am not saying stay away from him or anything like that, I am just telling you what happened to me, but as I said, I will NEVER have one of these done again and my Doctor was not happy with what happened.

I cleared…read moretheir acceptance of my insurance before referral, and again before coming for my 1st appointment and the 1st thing I was asked was to sign a form stating my insurance didn't cover the hearing test and I'd agree to pay out of pocket. I advised my insurance does cover hearing tests and did just two months prior and I did not need another test, she advised they prefer their own and if I would not sign the form it sounded like I was not a good fit for their establishment. She is correct--I know a fraud when I meet one and was not an easy target, so I was a bad fit. (The next clinic I called was appalled and said they would never refuse a patient who did not want a hearing test). Don't give this company your personal information -- I would not trust them at all.

I have AGS. My levels are .32; anything over .10 is positive so mine are nearly three times the…read moreminimum positive result. The Public Health nurse who called me said I should see an allergist and get a prescription for epi pens because AGS is weird and even with low levels I could have an anaphylactic reaction (and as it turns out the absolute gastrointestinal misery I went through that spurred me to get the testing *was* a form of anaphylactic reaction). Unfortunately I chose this place. Over $600 to be told the AGS levels on my blood test were "likely a false positive" and therefore no Epi was prescribed. Visit notes list several things that were not actually done and says I likely have "food intolerance", not an allergy. Completely disregarded the fact that AGS is a reaction to a SUGAR molecule while the limited scratch tests he did on me check reactions to PROTEINS (which is why they are NOT reliable for testing for AGS). Did NOT prescribe an Epi for me, so I just starved my way through a two-week camping trip for fear of potential reaction. My visit notes also suggest a "pork sausage challenge" at the office over 4 hours to rule out AGS. That's NOT the way AGS works. With AGS you can eat something one time and not react at all, and have the exact same thing two days later and have a bad reaction. It's a crap shoot. It's just plain dangerous to suggest to someone they're not AGS based on the fact that they don't react within a few hours to *one* in-office challenge. What happens when someone celebrates with a nice steak dinner because this doctor said they had a false positive, and they wake up in hospital or worse because *that's* when their body decided to react?? I also do NOT appreciate the complete lack of transparency with respect to pricing. Prices and fees should be clearly communicated BEFORE testing so the patient can make an informed decision as to whether to proceed. I feel like the over $600 I was charged for this one short visit with minor testing was a massive overcharge. I won't be going back.

No words I can write can do justice to how I feel about Dr. Bowshier. She is empathetic and listens...I feel she genuinely cares about me at a person. She also doesn't let me pull my normal stuff...which I need. She doesn't let me get lazy in my healthcare and holds my feet to the fire when she needs to. She understands that I want to be around for my family for as long as I can she supports me in this. Parking here is easy...it's a large lot. The staff at the front is always polite and easy to work with. Dr.Bowshier has had several nurses over the years I've been seeing her; all have been good people to work with. The phlebotomists drawing blood etc. for lab work are all great and really know what they are doing...and I'm a hard stick. I miss Cindy..., but got to give a shout out to Haley! Not a fan of the conversion over to Trinity and their processes...but I'll deal with it. Change is hard sometimes. Lol I can't recommend Dr. Bowshier and MercyOne Waukee enough!

This year, one of those scans caught a small spot on my lung that hadn't been there before. After further testing, I was diagnosed with stage one lung cancer. Because it was found so early, a small portion of my lung was removed -- and I didn't need chemo or radiation. I am 100% convinced that Dr. Bowshier's proactive care saved my life. Her attentiveness, guidance, and genuine concern for her patients are truly exceptional. I will be forever grateful to her. Dr. Laura Bowshier is simply the best.
