First time I went to Mida about a year ago was excellent so I was really looking forward to going back a few weeks ago. I'm sorry to say I was a bit disappointed. I'll admit, the food was great. No complaints there. The problem was the service/mgt. Our waiter just seemed totally checked out. I thought maybe he smoked before coming into work. Forgetful, neglected to check on us even though it looked like a slow night. We knew what we wanted so ordered everything but asked that he space the courses. Of course everything came out on top of each other. The final offense was when we got the check. Charging a gratuity for your kitchen staff (even if deserved) is agrressive. Adjust your menu prices if staffing is an issue. Sneaking it in on your customers kina sucks. read more

Not a great Italian place. There are better nearby for the price and coziness. Super noisy and have to talk loud. Not a great date place. Pizza was the star that was really good for a good price. Got the classic carbonara and it was too lemony. A bitter taste. Was not mentioned on the description and waiter never mentioned it. Replaced it with another and this time it was overly salty. Was the cook mad at me? I think so. I asked if i could get chicken and waiter said a slight up charge. Well, that up charge was the price of their roasted chicken deal. So a $58 meal!! That was the suckiest. The lasagna was very good. The gnocchi had that weird lemon taste too. The pistachio ice cream excellent. Tiramisu was a joke. Their version was very bitter. I can't understand the hype, just like several other fellow Yelpers pointed out in their reviews. The food is okay at best yet they charge North End prices for Lean Cuisine portions. We got takeout for 4 people and literally laughed as we took the tiny containers out of the carryout bags. The arancini were the size of donut holes from DD. The "entrées" were appetizer-sized. My pasta dish tasted like it was sitting under a warming light for a while - dried out and overwhelmed by spice to cover up the blah-ness. The worst part is the $128 we spent on the food and then needing to go get a pizza to actually feel satisfied. I've had better, more satisfying meals at Olive Garden. Avoid this place. read more

The gnocchi cacio y Pepe at Mida is one of my favorite meals ever. It's so difficult to describe the taste, but it is like heaven landed in your mouth. I go there specifically for the gnocchi, but friends have ordered different dishes and were very happy with their choices. Yum. read more

Not the same place as the South End, which we love. Great food, wonderful staff and great vibe. Seems they lost that when they did Newton...and I was willing to give this a 3rd try. Wow...the barstaff was so short and rude, it was like being a cheap bar. More like grunts than pleasant conversation and order taking. The food was mediocre. I made a reservation tonight for 6:00 with a good friend I haven't seen in months since her father passed away. After having an ok attic char dinner costing nearly $100 each. an hour later, our waiter took away my water glass. 20 minutes, the hostess came by and told us we had to leave for another reservation. There is no time limit to reservations here. I was horrified by this service. My friend immediately wanted to leave. I spoke with the manager and he said he thought we should help them out and leave to make room for another patron.I will never come back for this mediocre food and hideous service. We had a very good meal here on a Saturday evening. The frito misto was very good, cooked perfectly. The short rib lasagna was also very good. The dessert I have the tiramisu where Winnie pours the espresso on it what a great touch only if I captured her pouring it in slow mo this was not your average tiramisu the texture of the cake was thicker I can't describe it but it wasn't like your average spongy cake but it worked. Every bite had fresh coffee bean slivers for a nice texture every bite and the flavor mmmmmm.....the decadent whipped, creamy light marscapone was excellent to give the cake perfect moisture. The cookie was baked in a iron square skillet had the chocolate chip chocolate perfectly melted, soft and chewy. Chocolate lovers oh yeaaaah.... Had a great experience at MIDA last week. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the bartender made some great cocktail recommendations. The food was outstanding. We came with a big group, and had the Arancini, Calamari, Paccheri Bolognese, Gnocchi, Roasted Chicken, Short Rib Lasagna, Broccoli Rabe, Skillet Cookie and the Citrus Cake. Everything was delicious. The pastas were so tender and perfectly cooked. Short Rib Lasagna was unique and delicious. The Skillet Cookie was pretty much "to die for" in terms of chocolate lover delight. I have visited all 3 of MIDA's locations and they are all so incredible! Chef Williams is brilliant! The menu has something for everyone and his staff is always so kind, so friendly, and over-accommodating! I've tried almost all the pasta dishes, some of the pizza's, and all of the desserts and there is nothing the kitchen staff can't do right! The look and feel of the restaurant is also incredibly inviting and warm and while the noise levels are high, the music is never something you have to shout over! Ate here for dinner on Valentine's Weekend. Food: 4/5 We started with the Caesar salad, which was crisp & crunchy with breadcrumbs. We also tried the cheese pizza, which was very thin & tasty, though possibly a bit over cooked. For entrees, we had the ricotta gnocchi, Paccheri Bolognese, and the broccoli rabe. The pastas were both very tasty, but the portion size on the bolognese was significantly smaller. Service: 4/5 We were served in a reasonable amount of time and our order was correct. This was our first time at Mida but it certainly won't be our last! What a wonderful experience from start to finish! Personnel at the front of the house were pleasant and helpful and led us to our table right away! Our server was a young lady named Nicole S And she was fantastic! She was very pleasant and helped me with a wine selection given the wine list is full of Italian varietal's of which I had no experience! The menu has lots of great options from appetizers to entrees and we sampled several throughout the evening! The price point on the menu and wine list is very reasonable! Enjoyed our lunch at Mida. The caesar salad was delicious. We had both the tomato pizza and cheese pizza. The pizzas although simple tasted great. The crust was thin and crispy. Service was good. Water glass was continuously refilled. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere to it. We got to open the sliding door by us to enjoy the nice warm late autumn air. Two of their dishes, the Arancini and the Bucatini Al'amatriciana are literally the two best Italian dishes I have ever tasted (including a trip to Sicily and a trip to Rome). The tomato sauce for the arancini is spectacular and the Bucatini might be the tastiest food i've had in my mouth!! It is a little spicy and hard to eat a ton of (because it is SOO flavorful) but my wife and I each eat an arancini appetizer and then split a bucatini two or three nights a week! The service is always fine and I find the parking pretty easy for a Newton restaurant. I'd love to try something else but I like my two main dishes too much to try anything! read more

This was a home run. The place is beautiful and the service was excellent. We ordered the arancini, focaccia, short rib lasagna, carbonara, and the citrus cake. I also started with a mocktail called the sorentino sipper which was crisp and the right balance of acidity and sweetness. It had the complexity of a cocktail with no alcohol, loved it. The Arancini was my favorite plate of the evening, perfectly moist, crisp, and cheesy. The red sauce accompanying that and the short rib reminded me of what my great grandmother used to make when I was a kid. The focaccia was fine but nothing to write home about compared to the rest which blew us away. The short rib lasagna was tender and was seasoned beautifully. Carbonara was definitely heavy on the garlic which was great for us but someone who doesn't enjoy that should steer clear. It was a very good balance of creaminess and acid. The pasta was clearly fresh, so yummy we ate every last bite. Our server brought out bread to soak up the rest of our sauce too, which was a nice touch. I'm disappointed with the way MIDA Newton management treats the high school students who work for them. They belittle and fail to provide encouragement and guidance. Learning opportunities should be met with patience, not condescension. No one, especially students just starting their work experience, should feel undervalued or disrespected at their job. I hope the company takes steps to improve how they treat their younger employees, as a positive work culture benefits everyone. I know, my child was bullied while in training. I was shocked by what she relayed to me, what was said to her and her co-worker by Phillip. I immediately asked her to quit. She informed one of the managers Harper that she was no longer coming back, and felt disrespected by what was said to her. With no reply from Harper, she received a text from Phillip days after quitting, asking her asked why she wasn't shown up for her shifts. It has been 30 days and she has yet to get a follow up from Harper or a pay check from her time spent there. read more

I am not happy with my experience here. I like to go to pizza shops and try new places. And I didn't wanna give these guys a bad review because it looks really good. BUT this place did me dirty!! I got there it was completely slammed. I was starving so I decided to go ahead and order my pizza to go and I was going to eat in my car. The service was fast I was like great got my pizza. I bumped into someone while walking out and disgust the Place they said the pizza was good. I opened my pizza up it was cold and burned. They gave me some pizza that had just been sitting there. That maybe someone else rejected or something it was it was 10-20 minutes out of the oven and I had only waited a few minutes. I am not impressed. Burned and gross. Was ready for the burnt crust on the pizza. Based on other reviews. ( They do need to figure out how to char vs. burn), but it was still a good thin crust pizza. Minestrone soup was a little different than most. Kind of spicy. Adding potato was an interesting touch, but they need to dice it vs. serving in big chunks. The $4 ice tea was in a skinny little glass and mostly ice. 4 cents of tea for $4. The hostess was friendly and helpful, while the waitress was kind of on automatic pilot. Friendly enough, but not engaged. Like she wanted to be somewhere else. Ordered an espresso. Had to ask (again) for sugar, a spoon and lemon zest. And it was lukewarm. But tasted ok. A good restaurant, with great atmosphere. Could be great with a little tweaking. Hope they tweak. We will be back to find out. read more
