I'm a little late getting to this but these guys are great and really saved my fanny. A few months ago I was visiting a friend in the DC area. He had to borrow my Volvo to get to work because his roommate accidentally took his keys. I Metroed in to DC and asked him to pick me up when he was done with work. On the way to pick me up he gives me a call and says " Please don't be mad at me." Me being 200 miles from home and thinking he had just wrecked my car takes a deep breath and says " What's wrong buddy?" My friend ( who is not the most mechanically inclined) says " Your breaks are tinging at me." I ask him if he can operate the car safely and pick me up. He says he can and when he gets to me I discover an exhaust bracket had come loose and was dragging the ground. I had to be to work back at home the next afternoon and was totally panicked because I was unfamiliar with repair shops in the area and the Volvo dealer up there had really bad reviews. I took a chance on this place and I was very pleased. They had me back on the road in about 20 minutes and it only cost me about $50! I was a very happy customer! 5,000 miles later their repair job is still working like a charm. If I ever have another issue while I'm up there I will use them again. I first took my car to the service station next to where I work and paid $42 for them to tell me I needed needed a new catalytic converter, which costs $1,400! Seeking a second opinion I came here. The staff was friendly and professional. It only took them 10 minutes to diagnose what was wrong with my car. They took me into the service area while my car was lifted and showed me exactly what the problem was. Since they have a welder on site they were able to weld back together the problem piece at a fraction of what the other service station quoted. The job only took an hour. They did not pressure me into any other services and did not charge me for their original diagnosis. I will be back for sure! read more

I don't know how they compare cost wise to their competition and frankly, I don't care because I know I am paying for quality service, honest assessments and quick results. Before my 14 year old, 160k Civic finally kicked the bucket, I knew I could call Jerry who would calmly get my vehicle in and fixed immediately & accurately, regardless of the variety of issues that a 14 year old car has. I never had to be recommended unnecessary repairs, or be charged for unnecessary add-ons. As a reward for his honest work, we gave him my wife's problem child of a vehicle as well. We had spent several hundred dollars through multiple repair shops trying to get a specific problem fixed with no solution found. We took it to this Midas and it was completely fixed quickly for less than $100. Jerry's explanation was simply that he had LISTENED to what my wife had described, and investigated exactly what she had pointed out, then "removed the problem part and rewired it according to the original schematic". So many times, other repairmen had been unwilling to listen to her description of the problem and clues that she had about it, instead relying on computerized diagnostics exclusively. I hope we don't have to be faced with future repairs, but inevitably we will and at least we can count on Midas on Duke to fix the problem effectively. read more

Terrible service. I called and they said I would be seen in ten minutes. After waiting two hours they said they couldn't do the brake job unless they replaced the rotors as well. I wasted my afternoon and the money for their "inspection". Don't waste your time here. Go somewhere else. read more

Went there to have an aftermarket exhaust installed, all bolt-on, no welding. I ensured that I had all the necessary gaskets and bolts necessary to install the exhaust so there were no additional parts that had to be used. The shop charged $273.13 in labor for a job that took 61 minutes. I got a call at 2:40pm stating that they were starting and my invoice with receipt was printed at 3:41pm. I took the time to speak with the installation technician that stated that everything was a breeze and the exhaust was perfect. He even commented on the sound and the quality. The hiccup that he ran into was needing to heat the bolts on the catalytic converter to remove them. Fantastic installation technician, he walked me around the vehicle while it was still on the lift to show me the fitment and to hear the sound. Technicians are great, i just wish the service writer didn't price gouge. Additionally, the owner of this location needs more training in customer service prior to calling customers at 9pm. I can't recommend this shop to friends and family, nor online, until things change. Sadly, I won't recognize the change because I won't be visiting the shop. I have found another shop, further away, but with stellar reviews, detailed pricing and a proven track record of customer service that I will frequent (PTUNING in Manassas). read more

I took my car to replace both sides control arms and both sides sway bars. I even brought the parts in that needed to be replaced. I talked over the phone with Jerry and explained that I have all the parts and want the control arms on both sides replaced. He gave me a quote and I agreed with it. When I took my car I found that they only replaced the lower control arms (and not the upper arms which where in the same parts box I brought in) and sway bars. Jose the mechanic that worked on my car even tried to convince me that the upper arms I had in the box are not called control arms but something else so that's why he didn't touch the upper arms even if he saw them in the box. Very sad. Poor charlatanism. On a post phone conversation I had with Jerry (the manager) telling him that I was not happy with the service, he asked me that he can replace on a future visit the upper arms (with my parts) for $320 (labor). So to replace the controls arms on both sides at MIDAS it costs $640 just in labor. I felt cheated! read more

If you need your vehicle serviced and decide to come here to have it done, I would recommend to drop it off in the morning and arrange to pick it up at the end of the day. If you do decide to wait, you'll be doing just that....waiting. Yesterday I came by for an oil change/tire rotation and the man behind the counter told me it would only be 30 minutes. An hour and a half later my car still hadn't moved from where I parked it in the lot. I had an appointment I had to be make so I said I had to leave, and the guy at the counter asked me if I wanted to schedule a time to come in the next day. I said yes, at 830 am. It's currently 930 am and I'm still sitting in the lobby and my car hasn't moved. I thought the idea of making an appointment was to have a time slot available for you? Especially when the glass in the lobby looks into the service area and you see a few mechanics standing around and laughing. Not impressed & not coming back. read more

We started with these guys seeking low cost oil changes for our cars. Were pleased with what we got and the price. They are friendly, professional and fairly priced. Our positive experiences with the oil changes led us to start using them for car repairs. We've now had several repairs done since we drive older cars (10+ yrs old). These guys continue to please us. They diagnose, estimate and repair it--almost always within the same day and within the estimate. Out of about 7 repairs, two times we have had to take the car back for a minor tweak, but they've always cheerfully taken the car back in, found the glitch and fixed it at no additional charge. So many of us worry about getting ripped off by car repair shops. I recommend these folks if you are looking for honest car repair at a good price. read more

This is one of the best shops that I've ever visited for an honest estimate for services. I inquired about a suspected suspension problem with my Mercedes because I was tired of the dealer's costs to replace basic parts. I was prepared to spend as much as necessary with Midas due to the great reviews that I had read about their professionalism and services costs. I was promptly given an appointment for the next day and my vehicle was honestly assessed after it was thoroughly inspected for the problem that I identified. Even though the shop took an hour to help me figure out what could have potentially been the problem, they ensured me that there was no need to perform any repair work and there were no safety concerns at the moment. To top things off, I was prepared to pay for the assessment, yet they did not charge me a dime, despite them taking their time to inspect my vehicle. Listen, these folks are the most honest, trustworthy, and professional people that I've had the pleasure of working with. I've been to this location twice and I've always felt taken care of. Jerry greets you and lets you know exactly what he's going to do. The diagnostic will actually save you money. The first time I was a bit annoyed that I needed to have my brakes serviced and I didn't want to pay for the diagnostic. However, Jerry, being patient and kind, let me know the diagnostic came back showing I still had plenty of pad left and they didn't need to service right then and there. This was after my local car dealership told me my pads were really low and I needed to have them replaced! Folks, they don't cheat you out of money. They're you're true local service center. I didn't hesitate to bring my car to Jerry and his team when my breaks started squealing after a few months. Again, they ran the diagnostic, and showed me I still had some padding left, but it was low. I didn't hesitate to change them this time. Kevin, the service technician, explained everything and was very honest, showing me my pads and the indicator. Jerry processed the vehicle and took care of me, all within a very timely manner. So disappointed in this place. I had been taking my car here for years just for their cheap oil changes and tire rotations. I decided to give them a chance and do a more extensive service (that they claimed that I needed), including new brake pads and rotor resurfacing. Well, immediately after they redid my brakes, the brakes started squeaking. When I went back for an oil change the mechanic told me I needed to have my rotors resurfaced. What?!? Again? When I complained and said I just paid over $300 for them to do that same service just a couple months before, the mechanic said that he couldn't do it again for free without manager approval and just looked at me. Needless to say, I left and found a new mechanic who told me that my rotors absolutely do not need to be resurfaced again. They also said that without taking apart my brakes and redoing them, they couldn't tell me why they were squeaking (but they are safe to drive). So now I'm stuck with squeaking brakes. And on a side note, one of the mechanics there actually admitted that they were going to try to charge me 25$ to replace a headlight with a bulb that they had laying around for months in their toolbox. I will never take my car back here. read more

I've been going here for a couple of years now for regular oil changes and such. Even when I needed to have my tires replaced they were so quick to take care of everything. Bottom line: this is a good and very honest shop - something that is in short supply around here. I highly recommend it. It's clear that the owner, Jerry, runs a very tight ship and can be trusted to give you the straight story on what your car actually needs. The first time I took our car to this shop, I presented them with a set of four brakes and rotors that the dealership claimed needed replacement. I came fully prepared to spend the money for the work; just looking to save a bit from the dealership pricing. The tech took the exact measurements for the brakes, which showed that I had at least six months of driving before the suggested replacement. He then took the time to show me on the car itself exactly what the condition of the brakes and rotors were. I left without spending any more than the cost of the diagnostic, which saved me a whole bunch of money at a time that I really needed it. The second time I took our car here, was in response to what another shop referred to as a bad wheel bearing. Again, I came fully prepared to spend the money for the replacement. Again this shop's folks took the time to do an accurate diagnostic, and showed me (on the car) why that noise could be explained by something else. Got out of there the second time with no more than a tire rotation, which was actually free as an incentive for getting the oil changed concurrently. And it fixed the problem. Lesson to me is that now, I only take my car to this shop, and save myself money and hassle. read more

Jerry is one of the nicest guys to deal with. I have taken 3 older cars (98 Ford Contour, 99 Mercury Villager, 02 Pontiac Gran Prix) in over the past two years for various service needs and have never had a bad experience. Reasonable prices and they have always found and fixed every problem (some real strange ones on the 98 Contour after another shop rebuilt the transmission but failed to reconnect up all the wiring and hoses correctly!). Dennis has a wealth of experience servicing vehicles, and I like having him work on my cars. Brought my wife's car in for brakes before the July 4th holiday. I don't usually drive her car, but when I did the brakes seemed very soft. Made a reservation and was met by Jerry (the service manager). After about a half hour he brought me a quote for almost 900$ just for front brakes. I was told I needed brake pads and rotors (The car has 25,000 miles). I agreed because it was the holiday, and I didn't want my wife driving an unsafe vehicle. This was totally my fault for not doing my homework first! The car was repaired in 2 hours with a labor cost of $318 and parts cost of $478. Apparently, the mechanics charge $159 per hour, but okay, I guess... When I got home, I googled the parts numbers used on the repair (brake pads and rotors). The brake pads retail price is $49 for all four (I was charged $116) and the rotors were $74 each ( I was charged $166 each, more than 100% markup on all items) I have checked with other service stations and have been told I was taken advantage of by this Midas dealer... My advice, do your homework online first, and definitely go somewhere else to avoid being ripped off... read more
