This letter details a complaint regarding a service I received at Midas, located at 8407 Central Avenue, Capital Heights, Maryland. On September 5, 2025, an inspection at Bowie Auto Clinic determined that my vehicle's front brakes were fully operational but would likely require replacement around my next oil change. The following day, on September 6, 2025, I took the vehicle to Midas for a brake inspection. The technician recommended replacing the front and rear brakes, including the rotors. Given that I occasionally tow an 11,000-pound travel trailer, I authorized the repair at the quoted price of $2,171.15 to ensure optimal safety. The repair, scheduled for completion on Saturday, was not finished until Tuesday, September 9, 2025. During this time, I made repeated attempts to contact the shop for a status update. Upon my arrival to pick up the vehicle, I requested a pre-payment inspection. When I pressed the brake pedal, it went completely to the floor, indicating a total loss of braking function. I immediately informed the receptionist that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and requested to speak with the technician and the manager. When the manager became available, he was verbally abusive and demanded payment, claiming the vehicle was repaired. I explained that the vehicle was not in a drivable condition and stated that I would not be paying until the repair was completed to my satisfaction. In response, the manager threatened to charge a $50 daily storage fee. The next day, I paid to have my vehicle released and towed to another automotive establishment for a secondary brake inspection. Their findings were alarming; they determined the brake work performed by Midas was not completed properly and posed an imminent risk of complete brake failure if the vehicle had been driven. I have since contacted my attorney regarding this matter and have filed a dispute with the Maryland Attorney General's Office and the Better Business Bureau. They fixed a tire leak for free. The circumstances are that they had mounted that wheel a couple of months earlier when I bought four new tires and I found that two lug nuts were jammed when I had tried to mount the spare. I tell anyone I can how terrible my experience was here because if you depend on and care for your car, you can't trust this location to care for your car. I was in desperate need of an impromptu oil change prior to an unplanned road trip the following morning. I contacted this shop by phone to see if they were able to accommodate me. I spoke with Clayton and was informed by phone that although they do not take same day appointments it was slow and they would gladly fit me in when I arrived. So I headed over shortly after the call. When I arrived I was greeted by Tamika with no Clayton in sight! To be honest, I was concerned I had arrived at the wrong place because living in DC I was not familiar with the area and thought maybe I was not at the correct location. But after small conversation, Tamika verified this was in fact the correct location and they still could accommodate my oil change. At this time, I am still unsure what Tamika's role is at the shop. I am not sure if she is a manager, customer service agent or what but I cannot thank her enough! She went above and beyond her job description that day to provide comfort to me. My oil change was completed in efficiently and professionally and the staff member also provided me with other suggestions of maintenance for my car. The prices are great and the customer service can't be compared. Although it's a hike, I plan to go back for future car service needs. read more

I brought my car in for a simple tire replacement. Tire was replaced and mounted within a timely manner, however the next morning i discovered the new tire i purchased had gone flat. Had to return to the shop on a spare and i was taken care of. The problem was a broken stem valve on the new tire which they fixed promptly. The reason for my low rating was the lack of customer service at the front desk. When i returned the next monring with the flat "new" tire, there was no apologies given, no ackowledgement of the inconvienience, nothing. Just give me the key and we will look at it. After an hour or so, i saw my car in the lot and asked the service person (Keith), who was in the office, if my car was ready, with attitude he answered "im doing the paper work now" voice full of sarcasm and attitude...as if i am being unreasonable or an imposition. My key was returned to me with the explanation of what happened and thats it. No 'thank you for your business". No "sorry for the inconvienience" not even a "Have a Nice day". Just a blank look as if..."You're done...be gone" I am sure they know what they are doing and great at autocare...but the customer service is lacking...big time. I will not return and will take my car service needs elesewhere...which i am sure they could care less. read more

Took my Car here about sometime in 2016 to get my A/C issue Diagnosed. After making an appointment in advanced and a hour or 2 of waiting to get my car diagnosed the guys comes to me, hands me my keys and says "sorry we don't know whats wrong with it". WTF How in the hell can you not know whats wrong with an Air Conditioner on a Ford Car. And have the nerve to call yourselves "Auto Experts". Complete waste of my time, effort, gas money, anything else you can think of it was wasted. This place will forever be a joke to me due to that experience. They need to learn how to treat customers or find better mechanics. PS I took the car to a different mechanic. He found the issue in less than an hour and my A/C has been blowing ice cold ever since. Worst Midas experience at this location. The front desk person, Clayton, and the other loud guy who sits it the back are very rude, and they don't know how to talk to customers. They definitely had attitudes toward me and other customers who walked in the shop. After receiving an oil change, I went into my car and noticed they didn't place a sticker/reminder in the window. I walked back inside and asked Clayton if I could get one and his response was "We haven't used the sticker in 4 - 5 years, and to wait until the car tells you to get an oil change." I had my oil changed at another Midas location less than a year ago and I received a sticker. The way he said it was very rude and dismissive. read more

This Midas definitely sucks. I could be getting an oil change or a new engine, it's always the same story, "It'll be at least an hour and a half." Then whoever is at the desk is always rude. They get short with you and act like you're doing them a favor by patronizing their shop vs the other way around. I waited 4 hours for an oil change when there were 4 mechanics in the bay and 3 people in front of me. They need to manage their time better. This is the worst experience I have ever had at any service station. I've been here 4 times in 1 month for brakes. That still do not work. Completely unsafe and they refuse to fix them. Midas is a horrible place to take your car for any work and I would never recommend Midas to anyone. Midas then asked what they could do about the issue. The manager called me and was very combative, talked at me, and actually argued with me about my breaks. Which of course did nothing to solve the problem. I came here for an alignment. I was told I needed new tires before they could do it & that I have to replace the wheel hub. I decided not to get the alignment BC I was going to get a set of used tires from the tire place across the street. I was tricked into paying $456 for a wheel hub assembly even though the mechanics there KNEW that the frame on my car was bent & needed to go to a frame shop! I went to a different Midas THE NEXT DAY and they told me I don't need an alignment. My car has frame damage! They took advantage of me because I am a young female who doesn't know much about cars & thats DIRTY! I will never go to another Midas again & I'm filing a formal complaint! read more

While I appreciate the hard work of the mechanics, all businesses start with the management. I'm sure it is not easy being a female manager and managing a bunch of male mechanics. Let's face it we can be lazy and do what we want, when we want, where we want. But this manager is one of the worst I have ever experienced. She lacks the patience to deal with customers who need help and are clearly not mechanics, but are trying to describe what is wrong with the car. At one point she steps into the waiting room and verbally says "I hate men." Really? And you wonder why you get no respect from your staff? Instead of sitting in the office popping her gum, this "manager" needs to educate herself on customer relations and how to defuse a situation. I suggest this woman is taken out of her management position and put at the entrance of a Walmart where she can just say hi. read more

I was sitting at Midas in Capitol Heights MD for 2.5 hours for the oil change special and it still took an additional 35 minutes. I was told 45 minutes. I even cancelled all the extra stuff and told them to just drain and fill it for the sake of just getting out of there. Ugh ‍. Bulk of my day wasted. I have patronized this location for 3 visits now and I have been very satisfied. I went to them after receiving questionable service from one of the competitors on the same street. The customer service here is much better. They are courteous and prompt. I thought I was going to have to give them a bad review after my second visit. I got my brakes fixed and within a week my brakes were smoking after driving on the highway. They took a look and determined the problem. It was something not related to their previous repair. But in the process of fixing the other unforeseen problem they also redid the brakes to make sure they were okay. A week later they called to make sure everything was okay. I have been very satisfied with their work, their customer service and their follow up. read more
