I stopped in to set up an appointment for a Nys inspection. Easy enough and was able to get me a time that worked for me. Remember IN PERSON. I won't comment on computer systems. Now this is the second location that tried to scam me out of an air filter replacement. My Toyota came with a Washable filter as an option. Think k&n but official Toyota. There is a LARGE WHITE STICKER ON THE BLACK air filter box saying this. How Many times has this been done to someone who didn't know? The colonie central ave store tried the scam thing. Be respectful and honest. Scams like this have a tendency to drive away repeat business. However a positive aspect of the trip.... Got me in on time and out within 40 minutes for an inspection. Brought my Honda CRV in for a NYS inspection. I have a normal mechanic that handles all my mechanical needs for my car, however I missed the fact that my inspection expired and had the afternoon off, thought I could get it done at Midas as they had appointments open. Within an hour of dropping my car off Dave called and asked if I have seen all the pretty lights on my dashboard. Driving the car for 4 years, of course I have seen the battery light on. (I have had it to a Honda Dealership, and was told that the car is fine to drive. It will most likely always be on as it is an older car.) Dave said that the car needs and alternator for $648 and a new battery for $269. Dave told me that they can not even inspect the car because it won't stay running long enough. At which time I told him I would just come pick up the car and to do nothing further. He stated "the car is going to die on you and will leave you stranded. A tow bill will be a lot more than the price I gave you to fix it." Absolutely disgusting that this gentleman uses scare tactics to earn his commission or get business in the shop. If I could give this shop a negative score I would. Go anywhere but here!!!!!!!!! The light has been on and the car has started just fine for years. read more

BEWARE!!! My friend went in to get a tire resealed. They gave her this big song and dance that it was criminal that AAA allowed her to drive there and it was lucky that she didn't have a blowout and crash and die. They were trying to get her to replace all 4 tires (can't get just one). Total fabrication. I spoke to the "gentleman," and said please give her her keys and we would go. He went on and on, saying I was a fool and that she needed to not drive faster than 10 miles an hour and made her sign a liability waiver and on and on... She drove down the street to Warren Tire, and in 30 minutes they resealed her tires and she was on her way BEWARE MIDAS. BEWARE. So Midas comments to my post: "David, we are sorry that you had to leave us a low rating. We would like to hear more about your experience. For assistance, please go to midas.com/aboutmidas/con... so that we can contact you directly" The link is to Midas's customer comment page on their website. So their answer (which I didn't ask for and didn't expect) was that I should go fill out a complaint form on their web site. Brought my car here for replacement brake pads and rotors. Whole experience was fine, nothing super great. I'm driving and a burning smell was going into my car and my front tire was literally smoking. Come to find out my calipers seized up because they didn't put the pads in correctly! If you are charging me hundreds of dollars you could at least replace it properly. Their mistake cost me another $380. My brakes and rotors could be replaced as it was under warranty but I would have to bring it back there to have them redo it, but honestly why would I do that knowing they couldn't do some of the basics. Went in a couple months ago to get new tires. They helped me out and were great while I was there. Just went to rotate my tires and two of my 5 lug nuts are jammed and one snapped off because I'm guessing the used the air gun right away instead of kindly putting them on then torquing them. They did my New York inspection and told me my brakes needed to be replaced in order to pass. They said there was rust on my brakes and rotors and I didn't see anything. They magically were having a sale. A couple of days ago I had my car worked on at a different place. They said who ever worked on your car last did not put the caliper slide pins back on and bend the backing plate. Do not go to this place! read more

My clutch was completely worn out and I needed to get it replaced. I called ahead of time to make sure they had the part in stock and they did. I dropped it off overnight hoping they could get it done by the end of the next day (which is a quick turnaround). When I spoke to them in the morning they had spotted a problem I've had for several years with my transmission. It functioned but made a noise in low gears. I hadn't mentioned this to them earlier (only the clutch), so it tells me they took the time to check the car carefully before they just started taking it apart. When I explained that I'd had the problem for years and I just would like the clutch replaced, they totally understood and did exactly as I asked (though they did express concern regarding the transmission, totally reasonable). The truth is I probably could have saved a few bucks going somewhere else, but they clearly are competent and care about the customer. They finished the job in one day and my new clutch is great! They probably bought me 2 more years with my current car. Well worth the cost. So to summarize. If you're looking for a place that cares about doing a good job and actually listens to what you have to say, go here and ask for Robin. You'll be glad that you did. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would!!! I left my car for a simple oil change and they called me and told me I needed a bunch of different things done and I said no. I picked it up and brought it to my mechanic the next day because they said it was unsafe to drive. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. DISGUSTING is all I have to say. Do not trust anything they tell you! If I didn't have my own mechanic I probably would have said ok fix it and have been down $1,200. Better get a second opinion if they tell you anything is wrong from an honest company. + what they verbally told me I needed on the phone and the packet I brought with "suggested services" was completely different. I came here with a Groupon to have the oil changed in my car. I bought the oil change with a synthetic blend that is recommended for cars with high mileage. I was able to get an appointment for the time and day that I wanted by calling the store directly. The staff was friendly and they got the oil changed in the time that was promised. They did try to sell me on other services while I was there but the same thing happens to me when I go to Valvoline, Monroe or anywhere else to have my oil changed. read more

I had a terrible time last snow storm with my tires. So today I searched and was able to purchase some used snow tires late in the evening in anticipation of the snow storm tomorrow and I had to act fast to find a location that would put my tires on before closing. Every shop I called turned me down. Pep Boys of Albany even laughed at me like I was a joke. When I called Midas they said if you can get here soon we got you. And they did. They told me I rather work a little later than to have you be unsafe tomorrow. They were so kind. They taught me about when to remove my snow tires. They laughed with me and they most importantly made sure I'd be safe for tomorrow's storm. I felt like I was dealing with family. I will go back again and again and suggest this place to anyone. Went in with a discount coupon for a state inspection. Told that it failed and that I needed work on the tie rod, bearings and then a wheel alignment. They peeled off the state inspection sticker and I then took it to another garage for a second opinion. I had changed the battery a few weeks earlier and the emission test couldn't be run because I had not driven it enough. Ran it up and down the Northway for 100 miles, went back to the second garage and passed, was also told that the front end was fine. Coupons are lures to get you in to sell you other services. P.S. The manager at Midas offered to buy the car for cash right then and there and he would have the front end repairs done and then sell it for more! read more

Absolute shit show here. Not only did Shawn (one of the employees) take complete advantage of someone who is new to the area, but the manager, Dan, is an absolute joke as well. My car was brought in for two snow tires to be put on the front, i picked out the exact snow tire I wanted and when i went in the next day to pick up my car i was told i needed brakes and rotors but decided it would be best to bring my car back to VT (my home state) and have my cousin fix them up for me. To my surprise, i was informed that this Midas had taken off my summer tires to put back on two brand new summer tires instead of the tire that i had picked out for winter tires. When confronted, Shawn was all for excuses as to why they had messed up but not wanting to realize that they had completely screwed me over. Dan the manager, was apologetic and i was told to return the tires for a full refund. When i went to return the tires this morning I was not given the full refund, only what they felt was necessary. They not only took complete advantage of me, but the also are rude and should not be trusted with your vehicles. They are fraud and over charge insanely. I was quoted $800 for brakes and rotors here but when I got my actual snow tires and brakes/rotors done it didn't even coat close to that. This place is an absolute disgrace of a Midas and shouldn't be trusted. They have been reported to New York State and Midas Corporation. read more

I brought my car in for a loud humming sound (which I thought was coming from the engine) and was told my "right" wheel bearing needed replacing. I also needed an inspection and they said they couldn't pass my vehicle without changing the entire steering line (which, admittedly, had a small leak). $750 later, I drove out and the noise that I brought it in for was still there. I went back the next morning, they looked and said that the other bearing was fine (had 6 months to a year left on it). Told me to bring it back on Friday which is the only day the manager could drive it to hear the noise for himself. I work 9-5 Mon.-Friday and it took me two more weeks to bring it back to have someone drive it. When they did, they told me it was my "right" wheel bearing which I know am confident is the one they said needed replacing the first time I brought it in (of course the bill didn't list whether it was the right or left replacement). They had to ask me which one they did, I told them right, they told me that the bearing was probably a defective part and that it would be warrantied, but when they looked further, they said that the one they replaced had been the "left" bearing (even though they told me my bearings were fine the morning after replacing what should have been the right bearing). He could tell by the clean part. They offered to charge me just for the part (no labor) for $169 (Autoparts sells the assembly for $99). I said no and just left. I didn't believe a word they said. I will spend more money to get a reputable and stress free repair that I am confident is being fixed the first time. If the mechanic replaced the wrong one initially, not my fault but definitely my problem. I drove out with the same noise. There could be no other reason than they replaced the wrong bearing. On a side note, their upsell is quite uncomfortable and they make you feel like you totally need the additional work they recommend. I'm sure my $500 warrantied brake job will cost something once my pads go. Rotors for sure. Thanks for allowing me to rant. read more

I went in with a coupon for an oil change and tire rotation. Not only did they do there usual you need a air filter and cabin filter for $35 each, but also told me I had an oil leak on the oil pan and it would be $199.99 to fix. I declined the job and took it to my normal mechanic to have him take a look at the vehicle. About an hour later I get a call saying there is absolutely no oil leak from my oil pan just from the oil filter that wasn't put on tight enough. When I called Midas about this issue I had to have a manager call me back and 15 minutes into the conversation I was hung up on. Before you get any work done here get a second opinion, they are scam artists at its best and hope people don't know anything about cars and just pay them. I will never be going back to this or any other Midas ever again. read more

Used to be a good place. About 3 years ago they started changing out managers and shop techs. This place used to be one of the most upfront honest and knowledgeable places, but has gone downhill lately. If you get the guy with the big white handlebar mustache, he talks a good game and seems very sure of himself but I have on three occasions called him out, stumped him, and bypassed him using other mechanics to get work done cheaper and more accurately. Not to mention the time I took the car there specifically for rear brake work and asked them to check everything and they missed a completely shot and torn up wheel bearing that the mechanic I ended up having do the work found because he didn't just check the brake shoes and springs, he actually checked to make sure everything was safe. Be very careful when they tell you what your car "Needs done" because what they are really telling you is what "They" want to do to it. They are great for a cheap ($20) oil change or straight forward exhaust work but for anything else, get a second opinion. They like to come tell you the bad news about what your car "Needs" while they've got it up on the lift and half apart and make you think that it should be done right now, but don't be afraid to tell them to put it back together and you'll think about it. Remember, if you drove the car there, it'll get you to the next mechanic and they aren't going to charge you any less for already having the car half apart right now. read more
