As luck would have it, Mat F. let me know that I happened to still be just under the 5y/60k power train warranty at 57,853 miles (can I get an amen...), and the repair was covered in full. Brakes are supposed to last 30,000-60,000 miles. The front brakes that weren't replaced by Quirk lasted 80,000 miles, which is a good indication of my senior driving style. Quirk and National Subaru essentially said "too bad", the warranty was 1 year. I hope there will be a the class action suit to reimburse consumers for the crappy brakes Quirk and perhaps other Subaru service depts. are using. For this reason, I would not recommend Quirk for brake replacements.

My only minor complaint would be that sometimes the repairs seem to take awhile, so make sure to ask if the repair will take longer than a day.

Upon the garage inspection they informed me of a few problems resulting in inspection failure, including an exhaust manifold leak, ABS system failure, noise from my rear left tire, and a loose head light. I asked for a quote on the exhaust manifold leak, and was told "At least $700 for the part not including labor". Apparently the shop did not know I was a USCG licensed Marine Engineer. I did not have time to do the work myself, and brought the car to another mechanic. There was no exhaust leak, he fixed the head light and ABS system, and slapped on a new inspection sticker for $100. DO NOT proceed with repairs from this garage unless you have the mechanical aptitude to realize that what they are charging is or is not fair. What a scam.

They don't replace a bunch of things that don't need it. I recently (this fall) squired a new car and needed tires on it. When I went to Sullivan's in Brewer for tires I asked them to look it over. Sullivan's returned with a 2300.00 quote (not including the tires). I was discouraged and figured I should start doing some repairs over time, and brought it to mikes for its first repair. They called me at 1 pm that day, all fixed for less than 200.00. They also knew it was a new to me car but they didn't take advantage and only fixed what needed it. Don't expect a lot of phone conversation, these guys work. But leave them the car with a list of things and expect it to get done quickly without breaking you. If you want a car wash and a lot of side talk, go spend the extra 1000.00 at a dealership.
