Took my auto here bc of the $20 special oil change and tire rotation of course I was ready for the up sell. First thing they told me my truck takes an extra quart $3 of oil which is news to me since I normally change my own oil. Well ok since I really came to rotate tires. After an hour they change my oil and tell me they can't rotate my tires bc there's cracks in the sidewalls but there are plenty tread left and I did pass inspection a week before. They have an estimate already for me for two new tires and changing valve gaskets! I tip the mechanic $20 so he rotated my tires so my tires will wear out the same time , probably in 8 years, end of story. read more

This place is outrageous. I called and told them that I have four new wheels with tires already mounted. I'd like for them to bolt these four wheels to my bmw. She said they can't do it if the wheels are bigger than 16" and that it would cost $100. So I went to O'reilly, bought a brand new hydraulic floor jack, and spanner for $54, and I did it myself. People are a bunch of crooks. Went in for safety check. They stated my brakes and rotors were bad and needed to be changed. Thought it was suspicious. Went to other places that gave free brake inspection. All said they were good. These people tried to charge me $800 to fix something that wasn't broken or needed to be fixed. read more

Been coming here for the past 5 years for oil changes and safety checks. They've been good with servicing my car in a timely fashion and decent prices, however the prices do jump a little higher each time I come in. Sometimes they'll tell me that I need something changed or replaced, which ends up being about 70% right. Some I've declined and some I've taken when it comes to their suggestions. The location is convenient as you're able to drop off the car and go do errands/shopping/etc nearby as Ala Moana is just a short walk away. It's never too busy whenever I come in, interior is clean, and am always able to make an appointment either online or by phone. Overall, a good decent experience each time. read more

Went there hoping to get a flat replaced. Instead, I sat there for over an hour. One guy came to help, told me the tire needed to be replaced as if I didn't know that already, he went to go "check tire prices." I waited another 30 minutes before I decided I can't wait any longer because I had to go to work. Might I add that there were 2 employees sitting doing nothing. read more

We have recently taken our Audi here to get repairs done to our brakes. They replaced brake pads, one of the front rotors and also did a brake flush. Art who was the manager there was really helpful and answered all of our questions and concerns. He also did a complimentary full inspection on the car after brake work was done. Aside from the mechanical work on the car, another thing that I feel is important is how thoroughly and detailed he was in explaining about the work and what more may need to be done. I'm happy with the service because they only repaired what I asked. I only asked for an alignment and belt adjustment and they did just that. But I do like the fact they will make recommendations in case they see anything wrong with the vehicle. I go to dealership repairs and those crooks won't fix anything, claiming they have to fix other issues before they fix the main one that I am more concerned about, under the guise of "safety". I just blew a heater hose on my "96 GMC truck and took it in to Midas. Once there there woman tried to have me sign something okaying them to do a pressure test-for roughly $90.00. I told her, I guess not too politely, I didn't need a pressure test, that I knew what the problem was and what needed to be done. I had found the problem last night, a blown heater hose and I pointed it out. She asked if I wanted anti freeze or water, I told her antifreeze, signed some papers left the phone # and left. 1 hour or so later they called me to tell me it was going to cost me $275.00 (roughly) to REPLACE 1 HEATER HOSE AND FILL WITH ANTIFREEZE. Really, couldn't get me with the sucker $90 for the pressure test so you sock it to me on this. 1 heater hose, and replace antifreeze and cost is close to $300.00? Sounds like a rip off and I want every one to know. I had to get it fixed or pay for a tow truck to get out-no water/antifreeze in truck. PART 2: They called and walked back to p/up the pickup. Got there and gave them the credit card, the card they used at the last time, but the guy didn't know how to use it and stated that he needed to wait until the manager came back. Eventually he allowed me to leave the card and take the truck, to come back later and get the paperwork worked out. In the parking lot my truck sat, in a puddle of anti-freeze, with fluid dripping, yes still dripping, out onto the lot. I brought it to the attention of the front desk worker and he spoke to a tech that came out and explained that it was basically MY fault due to me not wanting to have the pressure test done, and then a lecture, then "was I a certified auto mechanic/tech"?, and then, get this, from the holy auto tech himself, " I heard you were rude to my manager....." and then he also said "...and if I don't like it I could take my vehicle somewhere else!" REALLY, manager speaking to the tech working on my car about me being difficult? Then he thinking it was his place to speak to me about any behavior he thought was wrong. Of course he wasn't there when I spoke to the manager. So someone had to tell him about the experience. Hmmmmmm.....wonder who? Anyway, I ended up having to not only pay for the $275.00 for the one heater hose and antifreeze, but now a $90.00 test to find out what next to fix and the cost of that. PS. Called O'Reilly's and the cost retail for the hose is $23.99, and antifreeze is less the $20.00. Stay tuned for the next episode..... Soooooo, got the call and went in to see the damage and the total costs, sign the bill and ask for an accounting. This is what I got. At the beginning they were to just replace the heater hose, I taped it for them, and replace the antifreeze. I got charged $75.00 for that diagnostic step. REALLY! $75.00 for them to do only what I asked them to do. The hose they did charge the $29.99, and $24.99 for antifreeze, and $3.00 for clamps. Then another $170.50 for the labor to take off the old hose and put on another, at $155.00/hr, so that took over an hour for them to do. Then after I walked back up there and found the vehicle sitting in a puddle of antifreeze and it ACTIVELY dripping fluids, I got charged the pressure check fee. The mechanic called (James I believe) and told me that he found a pin sized hole in the heater core and that he welded it shut and again pressure tested it, and road tested it, and ran it for 1/2 hour and it was all good and I could pick it up. He also mentioned that he wasn't going to charge me anything for the pin sized hole he welded up, it would be (get ready for it "FREE OF CHARGE". Lucky me, I get charged for a diagnostic that I shouldn't have been, then charged over an hour to do a job that while the great diagnostic book may say takes this amount of time, but really, to replace a hose and refill antifreeze, $275.00. So for the heater hose I got charged labor twice-both diagnostic and installation labor for a total of $245.50, and I told them what I wanted done and then was blamed for the 2nd leak for not listening to them and getting the extra charge. I should have done it myself. I might have just cut the hoses and clamped them off. Who needs the heater in Hawaii. But once charged the $275.00, to get my truck would mean to tow it somewhere and try again. Once they get you over a barrel they REALLY REALLY stick it to you. Never will I EVER go back, I might even speak to the card about overcharging. Really, a diagnostic charge when I told them what EXACTLY to do. read more

My experience backs up many of the negative reviews here. Midas Beretania is unscrupulous and seems to always be looking to do unnecessary and expensive repairs. I brought by car in for a simple oil change a couple of months ago. Surprise, surprise.. the mechanic "found" multiple, expensive repairs that needed to be done totaling about $1,800.00. I instructed them to just do the oil change and give me an estimate. I brought my car to my mechanic friend with the quote and he told me it was totally unnecessary. Just recently, I brought my car in for a simple safety check. Again, the mechanic looks for things that he should not even be looking at in a simple safety check- rack and pinion, sway bars, etc. This time, he tells me that the repairs needed to "pass" THEIR safety check will total $3,300.00. They then tell me that I still HAVE to pay them the $26.00 because they "inspected" my car but cannot pass me. However, they are SO NICE that they will give me 30 days to make the repairs and come back in to pass the safety check. Let me see...$3,300.00 to pass a safety check! NO! There is a reason that every time I pass here (I live close by and walk by frequently) there are literally NO cars on the racks or in the service bays. Please BEWARE!!! Take some extra time and effort to find an honest mechanic. You have been warned! read more

women are most likely to get ripped off when trying to get their cars fixed because we normally don't know any better. i'm chinese, i refuse to get ripped off. anyways, these guys are a million times better than jiffy lube. i came in for an oil change today since i refuse to go to jiffy lube anymore. after the change, they told me the problems they noticed with my car but nothing to be concerned over for several months. my car is near clunker status so it's understandable. how nice of them to not pressure me heavily to repair minor things like jiffy lube. the employees were very courteous and informative. i definitely trust the midas touch. read more

I went in because I was told from another mechanic that they maybe able to help me get my muffler fixed (perhaps at a better price? which I just didn't think would be possible, but hey, I did what I was told) I didn't feel "comfortable" talking to the girl behind the counter, she just gave me one word answers, and seem very stand-off-ish. She did do a bit of small talk with me after realizing where I worked (logo on the shirt I was wearing). I was quoted 1200 for my repair! 910 for my part and then the rest in labor.... The man however, who did the check on my car was very informative, lifted my car up and walked me under to show me visually what needed to be done and why. But 1200! Sure I drive a BMW but it's like a high school graduate (18 yrs old) I called the first mechanic and told him about my price break down, he was shocked about the price, and said that he would do it for a lot less and was shocked that the price quote was so high. Why is it so hard to find a good, descent oil change place on the island? Why does it always end up costing $50+ no matter what price they advertise? Why is the oil disposal fee not included in the quoted price? Do they only dispose oils from some cars? Why do I sometimes need a "special" filter when I have only drive ordinary Fords and Hondas? Why did my car/brakes make strange noises when I used to take it to Jiffy Lube and why did the noise miraculously disappeared as soon I had my oil change somewhere else? Went here after being given the run around on places to get a safety check for my car. There is a "safety check station" sign above the entrance to their shop office, but the lady tells us they don't do safety checks, even though my friend had confirmed that they did on the phone. read more

Made up an appointment for 10:30 a.m. for my brakes. Arrived at 10:30 sharp. Tina was great, very polite. I was told the assessment on my breaks would take 45 minutes, and I was told there was no one ahead of me because I had an appointment. They didn't start looking at my car until 11:11. Then I was told they were going to do some work that would take 45 minutes, it took an hour and a half. I like that they didn't try to sell me work that I didn't need. But heads up it's going to take longer than they tell you. Even with an appointment. read more

I always come here to get my oil changed, which in most cases includes tire rotation as well. They have an A/C waiting room with TV, coffee, and FREE Wifi provided by Clear Wire. Usually when I go to this location, it's on a Saturday when it's not as busy. So waiting time is anywhere from 30-45min, since I have them do tire rotations too. Definitely suggest to come here to have your car serviced. read more

Beware of this location, they either rip you off or their mechanics are very under trained. Which is worst? My engine was shaking, it was brought to my attention that all I needed was a tune up, so I brought it to Midas right up the street from my place. The bill end up being $620, pretty hefty for a tuneup but they assured me they needed to replace a few things like a valve cover gasket with was totaled $212. Picked up my car and it was smooth riding until the next day! Same problem! I called a friend who sent me his mechanic friend to look at my car. It turned out the car engines motor mount was broken and that's what made the engine shake. Simple fix for a replacement and he installed it less than 10min all under $100. The mechanic told me that what Midas replaced for me was unnecessary, it was a rip off and that's why he quit companies like them who train you to rip off customers. Never go to this location if you're looking for an honest mechanic work. read more

After several months of issues and everything still going unresolved in terms of actually fixing the car, Midas and I were able to reach a reasonable consensus on how to approach the matter. I give Midas an extra star for their customer service at this location, but I cannot justify giving any more than that because my personal experience results in still having my cars issue unresolved at an "auto repair" shop. Had an appointment for 9:00 am and the parking lot was completely full, cars waiting to get in/out. No one was managing the traffic. Three cars had taken up 2 parking spots each and there was a van there taking up a spot that was selling stuff. When I called and asked for the manager, Jordan, at first wouldn't give me his name and said he was the manager. I explained what happened and he explained to me that he shared the lot with another business. I said I understood but someone should manage the traffic, parking in the lot and address customers as they come in. He did ask me if I was still there, he could help me. I said no and might have been better to help me when I was there by managing the traffic/customers before they drove out. He started to argue with me and I told him thanks. read more

With what started out as a miscommunication/misinformation from his staff about something that unlocks my wheels allowing for tire rotation/brake check... he took the time to explain what was needed, apologized on behalf of his staff for how I was initially treated, educate his staff, educate me, and provided the service I had scheduled. The 'it's not my problem ' first impression quickly turned into a 'we can fix this' solution! As a long time patron of Midas, I am happy to say that I will return for services in the future. I have a Ford F-150 which somehow sheered a bolt off of a rear shock - so the shock was hanging and potentially a safety issue. I went in at 0700 when they opened (without an appointment) , told them my problem. They ordered parts, I brought the truck back at 1200, and they were done by 4PM - and they called me twice to make sure I knew the truck was ready. Why only a 3 star rating? UUGGHHH the price for labor on vehicles makes me cringe, but their prices were comparable to other places in Honolulu and I'd rather give my business to locals. I've had the worst safety inspection experience with this shop. First of all, we passed the inspection, and went to get the car registration. We came back to get the safety sticker and they rejected to give it to us, asked us to come back the next day and need to do the inspection again. The next day went back and had us wait for one hour to do the inspection. All the staffs were really rude and gave us a hard time. We went for a tire change, they worte wrong information down which lead to a Honda rim on our Toyota. Seriously. The person who worked on our papers has not been in supposingly, and the mechanic who did our tire change is also supposingly not in for about a week. ALSO, the manager is on vacation? Bullshit. I had a horrible experience getting a simple oil change & tire rotation done here at the Beretania location. This is my first time getting maintenance work done here. I decided to come here because they had an ad on Midweek, and it was relatively close to where I live. I made an appointment well ahead of time and showed up on a timely manner. Even so, it took them over an hour and 15 minutes to even start working on my car. The staff in the office weren't very courteous, and the technicians were very lazy and slow-moving. Some came in to the waiting area to watch football and/or talk story while no one even started doing anything to my car yet! There were times where some of them were doing nothing but playing on their cell phones!! On top of that, they refused to do my tire rotation!!! My tires were more worn out in the front so I wanted to have it rotated so they would even out. Their excuse was that if I put the more worn out ones in the rear, I could lose control if those tires ever blew. Although this could be true, my front tires were nowhere near end of life. I know this for a fact, because I used to work on cars myself. It seemed like the technician was just too lazy to do what was asked of him. I could've had everything finished within the time of waiting at another place. I would definitely recommend people to go elsewhere if they wanted quality and efficient service. Never am I returning to this crappy place. In the end, I ended up paying more than what I would have if I had my oil change done at the dealer!!!!! read more

Do not, I repeat do not go to any Midas unless you want to go back and back and back again especially for brake jobs. It may cost more to have the dealer do it or someone else but at least it will be done right the first time. In fact it may be more expensive at Midas to begin with when you consider the amount of time you'll spend going back and back again. That lifetime guarantee is means going back for the life of your vehicle. There isn't much honesty in the auto repair industry today especially when it comes to dealing with females. I read the reviews on YELP first, so I should have been warned, but I thought this MIDAS was in the neighborhood and I should give them a change. Sadly, everything that was warned about came true. I came in with two problems suggested by my garage (replace a Cadillac Converter and rear brake pads). My garage said they should be able to do it cheaper than they would. Alas... this place is a rip-off. They gave me an estimate of $1,387 for the Cadillac Converter and said other work would need to be done. I declined the service, and ended up taking it to EXHAUST SYSTEMS HAWAII, and they did the job in an hour and a half (exactly as promised) for $476 (with tax). They did not try to have me do extra service. In other words the other place did it for one-third of the price. I could add that I tried to make a reservation online with the Midas website and never got a response. I only was able to make an appointment after calling something like 8 times that day. I can't imagine why anyone would use MIDAS. read more
