I am a local female who brought in a car for an inspection. The inspection did not pass but was given a list of things to correct. Next day, my white husband brought in the car with the fixes done. New tech inspected the vehicle only to add one more thing to fix. After they reviewed the cost at $150, this tech says the fix is $750. I know this tech in the community and know he has disdain for people he perceives as non-local. Really disgusted with the inconsistent inspection and perception of discrimination. Personally as a local I have been treated fairly and quickly at this place, After my husband's experience I am shocked at his experience with this tech (N.A.). Midas charged me $1300 to fix the AC and within just over 30 days the exact same problem persisted. The fence were blowing hot air from 89 to 95°. I got nothing but pushback, rude, aggressive behavior from Midas, not just in the branch in Lihue by Matt the manager, but also by the field operations team in Oahu and mainland. No one cared that I had just paid $1300 for the AC to be repaired & it was broken again within 30 days. They insisted that the work was **NOT** under warranty EVEN IF THE COMPRESSOR WAS FAULTY. I had to call several times just to get them to admit there was any sort of 90 day warranty. According to the website they do a TRADEMARKED INSPECTION FOR EVERY VISIT--"CLOSER LOOK INSPECTION" which is TRADEMARKED-- ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS A PAID REPAIR. This is completely separate from a paid diagnostic. When I brought the vehicle back, the Manager Matt witnesses first hand but then flat out refused to admit that the vents were blowing hot air, which was the exact same problem that I had raised when I brought the vehicle in the first time. They were relentless in denial of any responsibility to fix the problem. The employees are shady, skirt responsibility, cut corners and most of all lie and cheat when it comes to what their duties & responsibilities are as licensed mechanics: Negligence and Breach of Duty: 1. Midas failed to perform a meaningful inspection of the A/C system when replacing the compressor, despite advertising its Closer Look Vehicle Check™. 2. Midas employee Matt admitted the inspection advertised as "comprehensive" was "NOT comprehensive in any way," contradicting MIDAS' trademarked consumer promise. 3. Midas staff (Matt, Zac, Jordan, and Sherwin) engaged in deflection, refusal of documentation, and outright rudeness, instead of offering any repair solution. What makes Midas Responsible 1. Failure to Uphold Its Own Claims. Your manager's statement proves that Midas' marketed inspection service was not performed in good faith, despite being a trademarked customer guarantee. 2. Post-Repair Failure. The identical defect recurred soon (only 30-40 days) after the paid repair. They refused to admit that there was a warranty, even though everything on the website says there's a 12,000 mile 12 month warranty and even the receipt itself says that there's a 90 day warranty!! 3. Bad-Faith Handling. I have been bounced between Zac, Matt, Jordan, and Sherwin; denied documentation; and told to pay diagnostics "regardless." 4. Records Withheld. I have requested over and over again for documentation regarding the service but they either don't have any or are vehemently withholding them. They have provided no photos, no notes, no inspection records from the July 23 service have been produced, raising concerns about whether proper checks occurred. 5. Business Damages. Without working A/C, my 15-pass van cannot operate, costing me thousands per month in lost income. Scope of Work & Basic Competence. I requested a working A/C system, not a "parts-only" swap. Installing a compressor necessarily requires ***handling/inspecting connected refrigerant lines/hoses, fittings, O-rings, condenser path, and evacuate/charge procedures.**** If a leak or obvious defect existed, your certified technicians should have identified and disclosed it before delivery. 2. Contradiction of Midas' Own Standards. During my in-person discussion with the Līhuʻe branch manager, Matt, he dismissed the Midas Closer Look Vehicle Inspection™ as "not comprehensive in any way," going so far as to say it was equivalent to "just looking at a white van and calling it a white van." This statement is in direct contradiction to Midas' nationwide marketing of the Closer Look service as a comprehensive multipoint inspection intended to assure customer safety and proper function. His remarks illustrate a fundamental avoidance of responsibility and a failure to uphold Midas' own claims. 3. Post-Repair Failure & Notice. The identical symptom returned soon after, and I promptly sought remedy. 4. Bad-Faith Handling. I have been bounced between Zac, Matt, Jordan, and Sherwin, told to pay for new diagnostics "regardless," denied access to my own repair file, and now met with non-responsive field ops. Do not recommend. Went in for new tire as directed by initial security check. When I went to get new tire they said no safety techs available. Went back Mon and they said no techs. Went back Wed and they said the machine broke and to come tmw. I called before going in for the 4th attempt and he said they were too busy. I'm beyond frustrated at the horrible service. I have to get this safety done and within the 30 days. I will never go back and you shouldn't either. read more

Went in and got an estimate for an oil change made an appointment for the next day. When I went in the following day, the price is on by $30 by another employee. I believe it was the manager. I had to argue with him to get the price that I had been quoted the day before he told me it was just an estimate! I called Midas in Lihue earlier this week about having them replace the tire valve stem on my Jeep Wrangler. They were very nice and told me to bring it in that day. I should preface this by saying that they were the 3rd shop I called, and the 2nd to answer the phone. I dropped it off a couple hours later figuring it would be fixed in a day or two. It was replaced and ready to go within 24 hours!! And when I tried to pay for it, they told me I didn't have to. This is good business!!! Wanted my car safety checked 2020 miles on it. After driving 26 miles arriving at 7:05 am I was informed that they wouldn't do the inspection because I printed the insurance form was printed from my home printer with info from my insurance company. Showed attendent my paid up insurance from the insurance company they refused to do the inspection. Called the Hawai'i stathey agreed with Lihue mgr. I AM DONE WITH MIDAS!!!!!!! I am late writing this review. However I am due for my safety check and it reminded me of the last time I tried to get my safety check here. I had numerous bad experiences and the last time I scheduled my safety check was the straw that broke the camels back. I had called to schedule a safety check. The man who answered the phone was the manager. How I know, he has a voice that is recognizable and he is always there answering calls and scheduling appointments. So I called on a Monday and set my appointment for that Thursday. He asked my name and when I gave it to him he confirmed my vehicle. Which means they have my information in the systems since I would always go there for oil changes. Before I could ask if he needed my phone number he said " See you Thursday" and hung up. I live on the north shore so a drive to Lihue is a far drive. When I got there I went to check in and the manager was sitting there. I told him I was there for my safety check appointment. Manager: Sorry our printer is broken to do safety checks. Me: So why didn't you call me to let me know so I didn't drive all the way out here? Manager: We don't have your number. I thought it would have been fixed by today but the guy never showed up. Me: You don't have my number because when you took my appointment you hung up before I could give it to you plus you never asked. So when did your machine break? Manager: it's been broken since last week. Me: Then why did you schedule a appointment on Monday knowing your machine was broken. Manager: Because I thought it would be fixed now. That's when I walked out because I cannot handle dealing with incompetent people that cannot do their jobs right and provide good customer service. I would give negative stars if I could... I made an appointment last week for a Turo Safety Inspection (basically, a safety check but includes documenting the tread of your tires - I asked a mechanic at another shop). I was quoted $35 on the phone. I showed up today and when I checked in at the counter, I was told that they "had a meeting" and decided to charge $185 for Turo Safety checks. I told the guy that I was quoted $35 on the phone. He said, "I don't know what to say... but it's only $185. You turo guys are making a lot of money. It's only $185... you can pay for that with one day's rental..." I don't charge that much and I told him so. He just kept repeating, "I don't know what to tell you... it's just $185." HORRIBLE customer service and policy. If you are going to change the price, notify people that are already scheduled. OR, make the new price apply only to people who make their appointment AFTER you change your price. BS. Horrible... I will NEVER go back to Midas, and I would strongly discourage people from going there. Very unprofessional. The latch on my power door was stuck closed, and they charged us $60 to "fix" it. All they did was force the latch further closed, which enabled the door to close, but left a gap between the door and body. When I took it back, they first insisted they HAD fixed it properly, then insisted the problem was because of an accident that messed the door up (which never happened), refused to look at the latch on the perfectly working door on the other side of the car, and then finally DID fix the problem (it took him 10 seconds). I brought my new tacoma in for an oil change and these brilliant aholes failed to replace the oil drain plug properly and low and behold it fell the f**k out as I was driving to work later. Incompetent, unintelligent negligence. The insurance company they use is crum and forster and they also are horrible bloodsucking incompassionate scum. They claimed my truck as totaled and want to buy it from me for $29000 which is rock bottom blue book value and I'm expected to replace my Tacoma for that?? Can I give them zero stars? Chad, the manager, obviously hates his job and this trickles down to the other staff as well. I've been going there for years, out of the sheer convenience of being able to get oil change appointments on Saturdays. Chad is never genuine, always super fake, and seems to be generally miserable. My last experience involved being failed for a safety check because of a slight crack in a reverse light. In addition, I noticed an oil leak a few days later, only to find that they didn't put my oil pan drain cap on all the way. Brought my vehicle in for a check engine light and service was performed. Paid thousand something dollars because I was promised light would come off after a couple of start cycles. Check engine light never came off, I brought the vehicle back in. Additional service was performed, paid five hundred something, light was off but when I went home and check engine light came back on. I brought the vehicle back in, I was told they would call me, they kept my vehicle in without notifying me. The following day the temp manager from Oahu was very rude and arrogant and was acting niggardly, wouldn't discuss why they couldn't fix my vehicle and no refund was issued. $1600 plus dollars later my car's check engine light is still on. Worst experience. These guys don't know what they doing and I feel robbed. read more

My brakes were making noise on my 2013 Acura so I stopped in for an inspection. They said I needed new pads, rotors and calipers on the back wheels and resurfaced rotors and new pads on the front, about $2,100. At first I didn't know what to do but I thought that price was outrageous. It's an Acura, not a Ferrari! I called two reputable auto service companies and for the same work, it was $900 less. I've been going to Kauai Midas since we arrived on island 2 years ago, but just for the certification needed by the DMV. I decided to go there for my 18,000 mile checkup -- and I have to say, every part of that experience was great! In these viral times, I was greeted by Jim, with a warm & happy welcome! We decided which service I would receive, and he gave me a full explanation of what would be done. The timeframe was perfect, about an hour, and the call came as expected when the job was completed. I knew what I was getting, no surprises added on, and me & my RAV-4 are happy campers now! I try to support the locally owned shops here and I have supported this Midas in the past when Ross was manager. I had moved to CO and came back to Kauai. I bought a car, had some repairs done to it, oil change etc. They seemed personable and I thought I had my car taken care of. I found out that the noise I was hoping was repaired was solved w the new axle I had put on and other repairs to the tune of $1100. It wasn't. I brought it back they said they had packed the bearings and it should solve the problem. It hasn't. I wanted to get my car safety checked and had an appt. that I needed to move. I tried calling on a Sat. and NO ONE answered the phone. I called on Mon the day of my appt and spoke to a staff member that had supposedly changed it to Fri. I showed up on Fri. and my appt is moved to Sat. and then I was told there was no one that could do my safety check. I was NEVER called. The current manager Chad, seems to have a babysitting situation as the lobby looks like a daycare center w his kids, whom I feel sorry for, have to spend the day inside on the phones watching videos. It doesn't make for a good impression for customers. If he's having problems w finding suitable daycare perhaps Midas can help with that? I won't be back. read more

Well, Chad the manager at Midas comes with a smile, an aloha for his Ohana, and the pride each time in knowing that his Customers are leaving happy! Quintin, his awesome, talented and experience technician always seems to resolve my issues that the Dealer says cost so much and will take parts. Each time Quintin finds the problem resolved with a simple remedy and no charge. You ask why? Because the dealer doesn't care like Midas - Chad and his team put the Ohana FIRST - and they make my decision FIRST when people ask - where can I get an Oil change or my car fixed - The world needs more Chads and even Quintins, they make Kauai GREAT! read more

I had been having my mini cooper serviced at the Lihue, Kauai Hawaii Midas location since I bought the car last summer July 2019. I was generally satisfied with the work and customer service up until this past January when I took the car in for brakes. Upon inspection, Chad, the store manager informed me that I would need all new pads, all new rotors and all new sensors and braking system fluid flush. He informed me that the price for the complete brake job would be just over $1400. This was definitely a shocker as I have owned 2 BMW's and a 2014 370 Nissan Z and never paid anywhere remotely close to this for the same exact job. As a teacher, $1400 hit my family in the pockets hard, nonetheless, in order to make sure we were driving a safe car, I had him to do it and I paid the price. About 4-5 weeks after having the brakes done, I began to hear squealing. I called Midas and Chad told me to bring the car back in and he would take care of it. When I took it back he switched out the pads and put a more premium pad on it. Of course the brakes have a warranty so I was not charged for switching out the pads. About 3 weeks after that, the brakes began scrubbing and I tried to ignore it but it kept getting worse. I set up an appointment to bring the car back in and Chad was visibly upset about having to look at the brakes again. When my husband dropped off the vehicle he was 30 minutes late dropping off the car, so Chad was completely rude to him in a way I had never known him to act towards myself or my husband. My husband left the car there and went to work and about 3 hours later, Chad called and said it was the wheel bearing and that it would be another $800 in order to resolve the ongoing brake issue. Of course we refused the service and my husband went to go pick up the car. Not even 10 minutes of him leaving the store, the brake light came on, a light that has never come on before even when we did need brakes. I definitely thought this was strange. I called Midas cooperate customer relations line and spoke with someone about my complaint about the amount of money I spent to still have problem with the brakes. Once Chad was informed about the complaint, he reduced the cost of the wheel bearing from over $800 to $500. Of course, I still refused because at this point I did not trust Midas with my car anymore. The next day, I took my car to an auto repair shop that had excellent ratings, reviews and many people had told me to go there when I told them about the problems I had at Midas. When the mechanic there looked at my car the day after it was at Midas, he showed me exactly why the brake light came on 10 minutes after leaving Midas. My front left brake sensor had been severed, literally cut, and was hanging down inside the tire. The mechanic said it was no possible way that this happened from driving and that it was intentionally pulled down and cut. Additionally, he showed me that the "new" sensors Midas put on were not new at all. They were the same sensors that had been on my car since 2007. So on top of intentionally tampering with my sensors, he never put on new parts that he charged me for. The mechanic did confirm that the pads were new, the rotors were new and the brake system was flushed, however, he said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my wheel bearing and they were completely to spec. So the $800 he wanted to try and charge me to fix a wheel bearing that was in perfect condition was going to be a scam too. The mechanic at this place felt so bad about what I had gone through with Midas that he replaced my sensors for free and was able to stop the scrubbing sound by oiling and cleaning my pads and rotors. My brakes are quiet now and make absolutely no noises. I kept the old sensors he took off as proof that I was charged for new parts that were never put on and I took pictures and video before he took the sensors off to show where it had been cut. As if this ordeal wasn't enough, I was strongly and repeatedly discouraged from taking my complaint to a higher authority by a person name Tim Hall who said he was "the top of the totem pole" and there was nothing else they could do for me. Despite his aggressive discouragement, I continued to report my complaint to a higher authority. Needless to say, I will NEVER do business with a store Midas anywhere EVER again. read more

The annual vehicle safety inspection is no one's favorite obligation, but the crew at Midas in Lihue made ours for 2019-20 actually pleasant. A late-breaking emergency made us late for our appointment, yet the men in the office and the shop managed to fit us in without (a) making us feel guilty or (b) intruding on the next person's appointment. I called to get a quote on my tires, someone took my name and tire size with a promise to call back No one called by lunch the next day. I called, spoke to someone else and was given a quote of $645. I asked if I could use the coupon in the midweek and he said he thought so (buy 3 get one free) We made an appointment so I would think he reserved the tires I went in for my appointment after taking off and asked if the coupon would work, he said it should work and I was lucky because the coupon didn't require an alignment to use. He went out to check my tires and came back and said they don't have it in stock and it would have to be ordered, which he would do and still honor the coupon but my total with coupon would be a little over $700.... I declined and here I am at tire warehouse....which is where we usually go. Mind you I wouldn't have had to leave work early because they open till 5 and have alot of competent workers. read more

Went to Midas Kauai last Friday to fix check engine light. Diagnosed by Adam ( great Midas associate) as a faulty fuel filter. Dealt with Chad ( the manager ) the next day. The check engine light didn't go away after the installation and the bill was paid. When I approached Chad, he stated the fuel filter repair had nothing to do with the check engine light? Really? He also wanted $185 to inspect the engine again? Really? He also refused to say the problem was resolved on the bill which was desperately needed....my car is for sale. Bottom line, my issue is similar to other customers listed below, including the troubling fact Chad's young daughter was sitting in the customer lounge the entire day. Highly unprofessional and potentially a Child Protective Services issue? Customers noticed and everyone felt sorry for the child. Chad's response to my concerns was a do nothing say nothing phone call today which prompted this review. I was forced to take the car to another vendor and paid an additional $199 to reset the check engine light. Run away from this Midas until its run properly. The only good review on line is the one written by Chad himself? A very weird experience. read more

A real professional operation. I needed some minor service and got an appointment the next day. They did the work neatly and got me out of there right on time. SO much better of an experience than at the dealer, and for a significantly lower price. Best of all, Chad did not try to upsell me on unneeded services - I hate that.
