I took my wife's car (Lexus GX460) here for brakes a while back and had a good experience. I usually take my car to a specific indie mechanic, Speedlogic, but it is pretty far away. I knew I needed brake work on my car. I first took it to another, closer, independent shop and they told me $1450 for rotors, pads, and sensors for all four. That felt steep to me, so I thought I'd give Midas a shot. I called days in advance to discuss the work I needed done--brakes. I was suspicious that I'd need pads, rotors, pad wear sensors for both the front and rear on my car. Gave the gentleman on the phone all the particulars of my car, he was pleasant. Discussed how much he likes my car model, talked specifics of the motor, etc. I was confidently quoted the worst case scenario $880 (new rotors, pads, sensors and labor for all) and was pleased with that, as it was much cheaper than the independent shop I had it at previously that day (40% cheaper). I told him that much. "I hear that all the time. We do the same work, we are just a better deal." I was told that I would have the car back with plenty of time if I dropped it off at 11am (needed to pick up at 4pm). Fast forward to today. I dropped the car off two hours early--9am. I was told there is a $49 diagnostic fee which is waived if the work is done; not a big deal because it's only going to be ~$900, right? I reviewed the fact that I had called, verbally reviewed the quote I received over the phone. "Sounds good" Angel the manager said. I was told he would call me by 10am. I got a call at 10:30 to tell me that "with the best coupon available which is an immediate $125 off, the total will be $1345." Wait, what? I again discussed the fact that I had called ahead of time, got a quote for what would have been the worst case scenario, and the number he was giving me was $500 more. Now they also had me on the hook for that BS diagnostic fee which I did not need, car had already been evaluated, and I told him the measurement specifications of the rotors. That's their policy, and I get that. It also serves as a barrier to taking the car somewhere else because it's a waste of $50, plus the $10 for an Uber. Guess what else? The shop I took it to before assessed it for FREE. I wish I would have stayed there. Honestly, if I would have known that it was within $100, I would have preferred to give my business to a local, independent, small business. When we are talking about nearly $600 difference in a pandemic, I couldn't afford to. I expressed my disappointment. What is the point of giving a quote if you are going to be nowhere near it? "Well, parts are $960 alone. You have the upgraded rotors and pads." Like that's a sufficient answer? How is your shop's failure to listen or adequately generate a quote my problem? Where is the customer service oriented mindset? Where is the "hey, sorry, not sure why my guy screwed up your quote, I'll knock X off to make it up to you." Not at Midas, I guess. I get it. Shops make money marking up parts, they have to. But that is a bit rich. It's not like they are using BMW factory parts (~$700 my cost). They'd be using OEM, which at my cost would be ~$500 including ceramic pads. I can get top shelf, cross drilled rotors and fancy pants pads for $900 with sensors (see https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assembled-by-ecs-parts/performance-front-rear-brake-service-kit/025997ecs075kt6/ )--that's my price. They'd get it even cheaper. What they put on are definitely not fancy. Rotors are plain Jane. I asked what pads they were going to use. "BMW spec ceramic." Uh, excuse me, but your ignorance is showing. BMW doesn't recommend ceramic pads for my car. Take one look at the brake dust on my wheels and you'll know that the factory pads are not ceramic. "Well, this says they are OEM." They are decidedly not. I'd been thinking about switching to ceramic anyway because I have new wheels coming and the factory pads generate tons of dust, so whatever. Furthermore, I was told it would be ready by 4:30-5pm. WTH?! No. I said I had to have it by 4:00pm and was assured it would be done. "Well, I think we can make that happen." I am not an idiot. I personally have done plenty of work on this car in the past (ABS pump, paddle shifter, steering wheel upgrade, ECU flash, etc). I know how to do brakes, I just don't have the time or garage space to do it now. I know when what you are saying is legit, and when it's not. Now you've wasted my time and money. I could have picked up the car and taken it to another shop. I just needed to get it done at that point, but lesson learned. I will not be back. Kelly was fabulous today, helping me with my automotive issues. She set me up for a rear pad installation and rotor replacement, plus an oil change (yes, my car needed a lot of work). Not only was she super helpful, but she also saved me some money on a new rear brake pad sensor (as opposed to buying from the dealership). And the best part? The entire job was dirt cheap! I paid $260 for the whole thing. Audi of Santa Monica wanted to charge me $650! The dealership would do the exact same job as Midas, who has all the same tools and experience as the dealership, but does the job for a completely reasonable price. Do yourself a favor and skip the dealerships - come to Midas and Kelly will take care of you -- she's awesome. read more

I have had a very good experience here fixing my 2000 Grand Jeep Cherokee over the years. Granted car repair is hardly ever inexpensive nowdays, but Juan and Samual have always been direct and honest and the repairs have been efficient and timely. I had been putting off fixing the rear door lift, thinking that it wouldn't able to be fixed except at a body shop, and much to my surprise and wonder Juan and his team not only fixed it but told me that they looked at it as a challenge and were determined to get it done! It's so nice being able to finally open the liftgate! I would recommend these guys if you are in the area! read more

I came in wanting to have my oil changed with synthetic blend which Valvoline had put in my car before. My friend who also has a 2016 Prius said I should use fully synthetic as that is what Toyota states should be used.. I went in based on an oil change promotion for synthetic blend and money is tight but Angel alerted me to the fact it should be running on full synthetic as the manufacturer requests. He told me it would be more however he extended a discount that dropped the price to lower than I would be paying at Valvolone... I've read some bad reviews so was hesitant however must say he's doing his job and an ounce of prevention can save you from a lot of trouble down the line... I have no issue recommending this Midas and Angel and appreciate him educating me as well as caring about me as a customer! read more

Watch out for this place. They are swindling people out of their money. I called ahead to get quoted for two rear tires. I was given a "total cost with labor". Upon completion, I was charged double. The service manager claims he quoted "per tire", but never said that in a call. His defense was that he always quotes in terms of "per tire". How was I suppose to know that? You should always quote the entire job especially if you're going to use the word "total". This is terrible business practice and he offered no apology or recourse for the confusion. read more

I really cant praise this Midas location highly enough. Start with the appountment function which gets me in and back on the road within an hour or two usually. Veey important because I drive for Uber and down time means lost earnings. The staff are simply amazing: friendly and knowledgable. I can mention Angel, Kelly and David specifically in this regard. I highly recommend this Midas. I went in five minutes before they closed since my car was overheating and steam was coming out of the hood. The owner and mechanic on duty, Julio, had compassion and knew exactly what to do to get my car back on track. They changed the piece that was causing the leak and my car has been running great ever since. Although they were almost closing, they took their time and did a good job! Beware: went in for AC recharge. They came back with a $1400 quote for an entire system replacement, luckily I knew a bit about AC and their reasonings didn't make sense. They then offered to do it for $1000. Why $400 off 20 seconds after quoting $1400? Took it somewhere else where they charged it for $85. Been going strong 2 months. If the system needed to be replaced due to a leak it wouldn't have made it this long. read more

I went in because my brakes stopped working properly. No pressure or braking power unless I put the pedal all the way down. They said it was the master brake cynlider, would cost $750, and would take all day. When I got the car, the braking issue hadn't changed. They insisted that I just needed to give it time, that everything was fixed and fine. They also said that my battery was completely dead. When I mentioned it was only 2 months old and from Autozone, they said to take it down the road to get replaced. Autozone tested the battery and it was fine. Charged it anyway, and car still wouldn't start. They swapped the battery and it still wouldn't start. Had to jump the car to get it home. Everyone here was super friendly, but in hindsight it felt like I was rushed out the door. The repair took them 2 hours past closing, and when I tried to call them from Autozone because the battery wasn't a problem, no one answered. So now, my car is worse off than before, and I spent $750 in the process. I live far from this location, so I hope a local Midas will guarantee the work and make things right. read more

When I arrived they pulled a bait and switch with a coupon I had downloaded by saying they didn't have that oil in stock (blend) but could do something else. They then told me that my car was knocking too much and before the oil change they had to do a $169.00 full diagnostic first. Absolute rip off. They can do an oil change without a diagnostic. My car has a flat parked on the street next to this Midas. I asked them to help me and they refused. I asked to speak to a manager and he wouldn't even come talk to me. 15 mins later he sent a guy to tell me he would charge me $45 for a simple patch job on my tire that has a nail in it. Went there for front brake pads and was charged 450. Had a 50 dollar coupon from the online Midas website. I was charged 300 for labor and called in to ask why so high? The employee Sam told me they charged 200 per hour for labor which is atrocious. National average is 75-130. Google it and before they respond with this area labor costs more I like to mention I had the same thing done at the Midas in Manchester avenue in Inglewood 2 weeks prior for my other suv and they charge 125 per hour labor only about 5 miles away. I thought they all charged the same so don't get duped. They do it disclose labor prices while reputable businesses post it on the wall behind the counter or disclose it in their estimates. Both cars about the same size for 119.99 ceramic pads and interesting the Inglewood location charged for 1 hour labor which they told me was standard time needed once the parts arrive to start work vs this location which charged me 300 so it's 1.5 hours for the same job and they don't note hours on their invoices either. 300 for labor vs 120 for the same thing at a different midas is not ethical. Beware people. Don't take my word for it. Call and compare yourselves unless you like getting this sort of treatment, don't throw away your hard earned money to these people. read more

I go here once a year for a $20 oil change "that they send me in the mail every month" I went in and dropped my car off and Juan, says he is the manager, tells me that I will have to pay a $5 disposal fee. I ask the total and know it is not what I have paid each year. I hold off and go home and check my records. Every year it has been $21 with no EXTRA fees. I call him. He tells me "we would go out of business if we charged that" My question was then why advertise it? He tells me "if I don't like it come get my car" I ask to talk to a manager. He says "Im the manager" I ask for contact info for owner or regional manager. He says "I am not allowed to contact them" I ask just tell me why you have NEVER charged me for disposal? I came here one day and they told me I needed $800 in brakes works. They actually were really nice when I first got in but when I told them I wanted a second opinion the guy doing the estimate got all hostile and try to give me a guilt trip about the free brake inspection and how it was a lot of work. Just a really nasty attitude, seemed very uncomfortable. I told them just to give me my car back. Took it to the DEALER and got my brakes done for $400. updates on Jun 29, 2015: Background: I brought my BMW X5 to this MIDAS shop for oil change May 9 , 2015. They told me my vehicle was leaking oil after they changed the oil (8 quarters). They offered other problems as well. Matter: my vehicle leaked 2 of the 8 quarters oil within 20 days. With the help of other independent mechanic, we found the following Unhappy facts: i) the MIDAS mechanic installed a wrong mode of oil filter on my vehicle, which is much smaller than the fit one. Even worse, the connecting end is totally different. Ii) the MIDAS mechanic did not install the oil system properly (missed one rubber mat part) which leads to the oil leaking directly. I have my mechanic redo the oil change pipeline, and my vehicle stopped leaking oil immediately. III) after I complained to the Midas manager, and their customer team, they agreed refund the 5 dollars to me, which is the value of the oil filter replacement. However, I paid them 100bucks to change oil and I spent 300+ dollars on checking why my vehicle was leaking oils. What a great refund offer! But the way , the store manager never apologize for this even after he confirmed they did such mistakes. read more

They tried to tell me I had $4500 in repairs for my 98 Ford Explorer. HA! The car isn't even worth that much. They even tried to SCARE me by saying the ball joints are done, "any second the tires could go flying off". This was 1 year ago, my car is FINE. You would think with all the bad reviews the Owner/Manager of this location would get the hint. Well, here's another one. First, they just don't do a good job. I'm not confident they are qualified mechanics. I had a brake job performed on my Acura and less than 6 months later the rotors were worn. And so much for the "Lifetime Warranty" I still had to pay a re-negoatiated fee to get them serviced. But my biggest complaint is they seem to be focused on selling services (Tune-up special, Summer Checkup) instead of focusing on the issue at hand. The Manager on my last and final visit became somewhat snarly when I questioned his estimated charges. Avoid this place. These guys will make you feel at home, like you've known them for years; friendly service that can't be beat. They really do take real good care of you and your vehicle. I took my Mustang for a muffler welding repair. I usually go to other Midas locations for welding and muffler maintenance, but these folks are passionate about quality assurance. I used to like this place and felt as if they were somewhat honest people here. As honest as mechanics can be I guess. Besides oil changes they've done some minor work for me and the price always seemed fine. When I went in for something I thought might be serious they went nuts and tried to completely rip me off! Told me I needed repairs for multiple things, said they'd give me a deal on labor and parts (for something I didn't need). I took my car to 2 other places (cause I'm wicked smart like that) and they just laughed, my problem was fixed elsewhere for $100, this Midas wanted to charge over $1,500. Sure they might seem nice for repairs under $100, but like most places they will TRY TO RIP YOU OFF. SCAM! Terrible price gauging shop. Definitely avoid. I took my car in there for a routine oil change and tire rotation. Kelly from the shop called me up and told me the shop found issues in their "Courtesy Inspection" that my Steering fluid needed to be flushed as well as my engine coolant. What a joke, my car has an electric powering system and doesn't even take steering fluid. I keep track of all my maintenance and my car's engine coolant was flushed 14,639 miles ago... Suabru's Super Engine Coolant is set to be changed every 100K miles but I like to change mine every 60K miles. Yet another example of them prying on customer's ignorance of cars to just suck money out of you. I even called the shop and asked them why I needed a power steering flush when I have an electronic system and the agent said "Ooops sorry I should have checked". Then why did you call me to tell me it needed to be done and even printed it out on the work order statement pictured below?! Had I said yes when they asked me if I wanted to move forward with those "issues" before I got my car back I would have been scammed $372.98. Never coming back here again. read more

I went in this morning to have my brakes checked because my truck was making some horrible noises. I told them I had limited funds, and my son was home alone(sick) while I dropped off the other kids. They checked out my truck, and told me that the left rear cylinder and the brake self adjuster were broken, which explained a lot! The scraping sound coming from that side was horrendous! I got in around 8:30 this morning and they had me out by 9:30! Some parts were under warranty, so the cost was minimal. Harry and the boys were amazing as usual! My sister and I ALWAYS bring our vehicles here, especially after being taken for a ride by the dealerships. The dealers have told us we needed more done than necessary on the van and truck. In particular, the Ford dealer we USED to take the van to told us (after a fender-bender I had) we needed to replace the whole front end of our van in order to be able to replace a light bulb!!! The guys at Midas laughed and replaced the bulb for FREE! I love these guys, and HIGHLY recommend them for service. I have never had a bad time here, and trust them completely. read more
