Just took my car there for the first time. The MIDAS (NORTH 3833 MCHENRY) had messed up BIG TIME on the rotors and brake job that I paid almost $600 for. I showed up to this MIDAS (338 MIDAS its close to downtown) and I was made aware that they are under new management (and by reading other posts I can see why they would want to get the word out). I could not thank them enough for the OUTSTANDING service that they provided. I have had my car for 10 years and I believe I finally found honest mechanics who do a excellent job. Yes this sounds too good to be true, I know, but its the TRUTH. A big thank you to owner Jeff and manager Chris for making my previous bad repair job (due to the other MIDAS) into a beautiful one. OMG!! I was stranded without a spare in Modesto, with my two boys. The guys at Midas at 338 McHenry Avenue in Modesto were beyond helpful. They didn't have my tire in stock, so they had one of the guys from Turlock bring it to Modesto. If it wasn't for these guys, I don't know what I would have done. I had an incredible experience at this Midas today! I was helped by Armando and Javier and they were both quite professional and pleasant at the same time. Great customer service. Great communication skills. Instead of telling me about things I could pay for additionally they actually brought me my air filter so I could see how poor the condition of it was. I typically have mediocre experiences at oil change spots because usually there's no customer service and more importantly no communication but these guys had all of that. I didn't wait too long for a full synthetic oil change and they took care of some fluids I was out of and did a great job on their inspection as well. I am beyond upset. I took my car in to this Midas 4 weeks ago initially when I was accepted into a nursing program 82 miles away from my house. I had just noticed that the brakes were making noise and I wanted to make sure that I was going to be safe in my car driving 620 miles a week and do it before my program started. I took it for a brake inspection, left it there. They called later and said my brakes were good but they recommended a brake service to oil and lube for $80 and quoted a tune up for $450. I declined the tune up. They were quoting ridiculous prices for spark plugs and gasket. I picked my car up, they also were aware of my ebrake issue that it wasn't working well. I drove another week and still heard that grinding sound every once in a while on the rear passenger side so I took it back the next weekend. I asked if they even took off the tire. I was told no and that they saw the pads and they are fine and the oil and lube they just pulled something a "pin" out for that. I left it AGAIN all day and SPECIFICALLY told them to inspect FULLY the back brakes. I got call later stating that it isn't the brakes and that the sound from their "expert technician" was the transmission bearing. This is a manual transmission FYI. Then I was quoted a price of $1200 to fix that issue. I started nursing school, plus I work 12 hour shifts so Saturday is my only day to do anything. The sound worsened. Our transmission shop met me today, a Saturday to try to help me see if it was in case this transmission bearing. One quick test drive and he confirmed that it IS the rear brakes and that it's crazy that Midas said it was that at all. So, my husband and I drove my car to Les Schwab and left it there. YES it IS the rear brakes and now the rotors need replacing and it is metal on metal and the passenger side and near to it on the driver side! He also stated when I told them they adjusted the ebrake they probably ruined the calipers that need to now be replaced and if they would have just TAKEN OFF THE TIRE they would have clearly seen that the discs needed replacing. Unfortunately Les Schwab has to order my parts and I will be driving another 620 miles on metal to metal!!!!I called Midas and actually showed up and told them ALL of this. I even let them talk to Les Schwab AND the tech their sent Robert in the office pictures of my brakes. The tech that told him it was the transmission bearing was there and admitted he didn't look at the brakes and only test drove it on the second visit. Robert had to call the owner (franchise) to ask about refunding my $80. The owner, Richard, told him to give me $50 back. I then called him, he was rude. I did get my $80 put back on my debit card (after 4 weeks has already processed) instead of cash. No offering to fix it or make it right from Richard. I explained to him that because of their non existent service or brake inspection that there is WAY more damage to my car now. He didn't care. I now have a way bigger expense that I am only able to take care of on the one day off a week I have. Thanks! Oh I am including my pictures of my breaks that Les Schwab took and sent to Robert at Midas showing that they are metal on metal and all the lovely metal dust that is coming off every time I brake. Oh yeah, Midas people that are telling people to go to some other site to talk to them, it doesn't work. Purchased Groupon for $25 which sounded good. Presented the coupon per instructions printed there on. Service tech said he couldn't accept it in that form and pointed to a taped up notice saying you had to go online to midas883@ gmail.com and scan in your bar code from the coupon. Tried to get on the on-site WiFi but it wouldn't let me on using the password provided. The tech finally used his computer to go to the site and put in coupon number code in. That apparently worked. They were pretty busy. When they got around to me I found out they didn't have the right oil filter in stock and had to order one. Bottom line: My lube & old change took two hours plus a lot of frustration. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because the tech was a decent guy who was coping with a lot of stuff while trying to assist me. Don't think I'll ever go back. I'm going to let Groupon know also. There is nothing I could find on the Groupon site or the coupon to forewarn the customer about the hassle. read more

So, first off I have been a loyal Midas customer for quite some time. I called on Tuesday for an appointment for an oil change and tire alignment. Took my vehicle in on Wednesday at 1230. First thing, they told me they made a mistake by accepting the vehicle for an alignment as their computer system did not have the specifications for my vehicle. I was irritated, but what could I do. So I asked them to proceed with just the oil change. Once the oil change was done, they gave me a discount of $15. I thought that was a nice thing to do considering it was inconvenient to go to another shop in order to have my alignment done. Well, I get home and park my car in the garage. Today, I notice as the car is in the sunlight that there is an enormous scratch and dent across my hood. No other flaws on my car, but across my hood. It looks like someone set something on it, and drug it across. I was livid, so I had my husband call today and he spoke to the manager on duty, Herman, who seemed to be expecting the call, and asked to bring the vehicle in. I will be contacting my insurance in the morning, as this is the only place that the damage could have been caused. My car was in perfect repair prior to arrival at the shop. I am thoroughly disappointed, as I feel they tried to deceive me by giving me a discount, when they in reality caused 100's of dollars worth of damage. Never again. And I will be moving this up the chain of command. read more

We were traveling from out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday and had a radiator leak. I was rather desperate when I popped in to see them as most folks were not open. They immediately said they could help me IF they could get the part (which was a rather unique one). I waited around while they called all over to track down the part. Once they confirmed the part they offered to drive the kids and I to family while they completed the work. They estimated 2-3 hours to get the job done and they were spot on for time as well as cost estimates. THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF!!!!! My 18 year old son went to this place for an oil change. We were quoted 33.00 to 35.00 with tire rotation. This is a good price considering he is on a college budget. He was offered a better oil than the regular oil. He agreed without thinking much about it. When he was done and ready to pay he was charged 70.00. He paid the amount and called me immediately. He was never told that the better oil was twice the price. HERMAN the person I spoke with on the phone told me I should have educated my son better. My son was taken advantage of. We will never go to this business again and BEWARE if you decide to!!!! Midas should know that this HERMAN employee is taking advantage of people and should probably consider having him find a different profession!!! read more

Horrible horrible horrible!!!!!! Worst experience ever! Went in to have some brake service done, came out with my wheels, all 4, all tore up. The guy working on it didn't use extended socket tools, so he made deep scratches as he was taking the wheels off. I have aftermarket wheels, not the most expensive, but still nice. Battling with the owner on issue that right now. The owner, Richard, is a scum of an owner. He is making me jumping through hoops to get my wheels repair. He told me I should have taken pictures of the wheels first before I brought the car in for service. Come on, do I have to do that every time I bring my car in for anything? Maybe after this ordeal, unfortunately, I might have to. And here's the kicker, the brakes are squeaking hella loud now, didn't before the service. Just brought the car back for that! I will never ever come back here again! Beware please! Customer is non existent! I should have read other reviews before I brought my car in. read more

i brought my new 200 mile truck into this shop to get a new muffler and pipes installed, so after being told that it would take 2 hours max to install, 4 hours later they pulled the truck to the front and open the door , revved the engine so i could hear the sound. Well i looked under the truck at the pipes and the welds were the worst i have ever seen, the new pipes had moisture running out of the holes that they did not weld and blew into the pipe because the welder was to hot. the brackets were all installed wrong with no bushings. I told them i was not accepting this, they could not figure out what to do, so after 4 hours of waiting we ended up taking the truck to the other midas 3833 mchenry. When i arrived the manager came out and looked at the work, he was shocked. I got a call from the 338 mchenry shop asking me if i can pay more for the work, because they were going to be charged more from the other shop to fix the bad work, cant believe he even asked!, i said no way. Now i have the pipes, the work looks great from the NORTH McHenry shop, thank you! and i will NEVER go back to the SOUTH McHenry shop again, wasted all my time, crappy work and asked to charge me more for thier screw up!, did not even give me a discount for my time, worst customer service ever!!!!!!! read more

My brakes were making a noise for about three weeks and then my brake light on the dash came on. So I figured that it was time for the brakes to be replaced. I started calling around and got different prices ranging from $200 per axel to the lowest being around $140. As I was calling around I started reading reviews online about the different places and it seemed to all be negative. Well the closest shop to my house was a Midas shop. I had herd stories about some Midas shops taking advantage of people and doing poor work but this place was so conveniently located that I wanted to give them a try. So I went in the Midas shop on 338 Mchenry Ave. Modesto and when I arrived I was ready to dish out the money for front and rear brakes about $149 per axel. When I checked in the manager Mike said before we go ahead and replace the brakes lets do a free inspection of the car. I told him about the noise the brakes made and the light on the dash coming on and when he took it for a test ride the light and noise were present. He put the car on the lift and removed all the tires and started the free 50 point inspection. I was thinking to my self great what is this place going to find or pretend to find now. He comes back about ten minutes later and says your car is fine. He showed me the pads and the life left in them, said the noise was glazing of the rotors which was no big deal, and the light on the dash was the brake fluid level being a little low. So he toped of the brake fluid, filled up my washer fluid and handed me my keys back and said have a good day. I was pretty impressed that they were so honest and I would and will go back when I need any work like that done. I would have paid for a brake job with no questions asked so my hats of to Mike at Midas for being honest and running a great shop and not selling me service i did not need. read more
