I'm a fan! Was recommended here by America's Tire Co. for an alignment service. I was very skeptical, due to their reputation among my family and friends for being over-priced, with bad service, and bad quality of work performed. The reviews here added to my skepticism. Upon arriving, I was immediately greeted by a tech who patiently listened to my car issue. The manager took over, and the tech took my car for a test drive. As I had expected, my rotors needed resurfacing - in addition to an alignment. Cost of alignment $59.99 (including $10.00 discount as a referral from America's Tire Co.) In in 15 years I've owned vehicles - I have had 12 different cars, and have had alignments performed at least once a year. This is the first shop I have ever been to for an alignment that provided me with an actual print out of the specs of my alignment - and gave me at 12 month warranty. Even Acura of Seattle doesn't do that! I opted not to have my rotors replaced & resurfaced, as I plan on upgrading from this car - but I can highly recommend the team at Midas in Modesto. Ps. So I have been taking my cars here for years. I will never do business here again. I will keep it as short as possible not able to include all of his outrageously rude comments on our phone call. Thank you to Herman the General manager (arrogant jerk) for interrupting me mid sentence to tell me to come pick up my car because I was shocked and upset over a $1225 quote for breaks!! Totally rude and no customer service skills at all. I don't know who allows you to run business this way but you will never have mine again!! My husband ended up doing the breaks himself the next day and low and behold the front right lug nuts were on there finger tight!! Seriously I hope that was an oversight?!?! That is dangerous!!! Made a dumb mistake driving on my part and screwed up one of my wheels. I knew I'd have to replace it. When I took it to Midas they took a look at it anyway to see if it could be salvaged, but it couldn't. They fit me in that day (an afternoon on a Friday) so I wouldn't have to wait to get a hazardous wheel replaced. The price was reasonable and competitive with other shops around Modesto. They didn't try and scam me with a laundry list of things to replace or fix like has happened at different shops I've gone to in the past. It was my first time coming here and would go back again. I can't speak to other Midas locations, but this one I'll be happy to come back to. read more

Painfully disorganized. Do not take your car here for any reason. I had been going there for 5 years and the shop used to take excellent care of both of our older model cars. New ownership last year...almost a total change in staff...they are terrible now. Gave them three tries to get it right on three separate occasions. They ordered the wrong parts multiple times, were unable to locate the problem and solve the issues, overlooked important details (like resetting the check engine light after a saga of problems they caused). I want to support a local owner who seems like a nice guy, but after so much disorganization and having to ask several times about the same issues, I have zero faith they will take care of my cars and keep them in good repair. read more

My car had a dead alternator, instead of charging me over $800 they let me know that it should be covered under the manufacturer warranty. Herman especially was very helpful in making sure my car was taken care off and we were not charged for something that was already covered. read more

I'm so happy I have this place. They are always friendly. I've had my brakes done as well as oil changes and tires. This time my car didn't get fixed they didn't want to charge me the price instead they found out my car was under warranty. They could have done the work and charged me but they didn't. If I was able to rate the service zero stars I would! I took my vehicle in for an oil change and when I went to pick up my car I was told by Robert that my valve gasket needed to be replaced. Which I found odd because I just replaced it four months ago AT THE SAME LOCATION! It had me wondering if they even replaced it the first time. This is the least honest place you can bring your car! I went back to Midas and tried to explain my situation and Herman was extremely rude and unprofessional. After a very negative experience trying to get a burned out brake light fixed at my Jeep dealer, I pulled into Midas hoping for help. I was due to leave for my brother's wedding in AZ that morning, and wanted it to be fixed as I had gotten a fix it ticket 2 years before for the same issue. Herman was my knight in shining armor. He pulled it up right away and got to it. The other staff came in and were incredibly nice and wonderful, they also provided some insights into servicing my Jeep. Needed a new battery for my spouse's car on the weekend. After finding out some places were closed and the first 3 open places I called said they didn't have the right battery in stock, I got Richard on the phone at Midas - North Modesto. He confirmed that the battery was in stock. And in spite of it being mid-afternoon on a Saturday, and they were very busy, he promised to take care of me right away. While I waited, Richard even brought me a refreshing iced cucumber water drink that was very refreshing on a hot day. Big shout out to Herman! Great mechanic and amazing customer service. Herman helped me previously with some repairs that went well. Last night I had problems with my car battery connector. I got a new battery from Auto Zone on McHenry, Unfortunately that Auto Zone failed big time with customer service. That Auto Zone just has kids who work there who are not mechanics and do not care about real customer service. So I had the problem with my car battery and went back to Herman at Midas. And sure enough keeping my high expectation of great customer service, he personally changed my old battery connector with a new one, free of charge! So much more than those clowns at Auto Zone, who didn't even want to come outside to change my battery. Herman even jokingly asked while he was changing the battery connector: "They wouldn't do this for you at Auto Zone?" and I replied "Hell no they wouldn't." I've bought my last few sets of tires at this midas but will never go back again. I had a slow leak on one of my tires and called to get an appointment. Nicole told me I could come it at 3:00 and if it was a standard fix, should take 30-40 minutes. I arrived a little early and asked again about how long it should take and was told around 30 minutes. After sitting for 45 and my truck hadn't even been pulled into a bay I asked Nicole about the status of my truck. She said she would ask...then said she could make an appointment for me to bring the truck back. Since I already had an appointment I didn't understand how making another appointment would make any difference. I wasted over an hour for nothing and had to return to work. Maybe if the employees hadn't been so busy visiting I would be a return customer. read more

This place was somewhat fast and efficient. At the time I came in, there was no one so I did not have to wait for a very long time to get an oil change. On the day that I went, they had a good deal for oil change and tire rotation. The man at the front desk that was helping me was pretty friendly. There were two other people who came in after me. I deducted one star because when I came home, there was an oil leak! So now I have to come back which is pretty annoying because that should not be happening! This is the first time that I ever had a leak from an oil change which really disappointed me because now I have to waste my time and come back. Something i did like about this place is that they do like a checklist thing where they see if you need any other service done which was a nice friendly reminder. I was out of town and my parents needed immediate help with their car and quick. They took it to this place for a diagnostic and a quote. Without any real detail they were told it would cost from $350-450 to fix if they decided to have the work done. My dad feeling he was being taken for a ride got a second opinion down the road. The car needed to tune up. A tune-up for a 4 cylinder car costs $350-450???? The shop they found charged them $150 total. This kind of treatment isn't just disrespectful but wrong on many levels. Being in the auto industry for many years I saw some absolutely horrible things and most of them were from used car dealers. This place is the equivalent of a used car garage. I know, you are thinking, a Midas shop... Really? But remember, these are franchises, and they are as unique as their owners. In this case, I was a little torn between 4 and 5 stars, but as I reflected on my last two services, I have to go with 5 stars. Gary, the proprietor is very genuine and helpful. He sets the tone for the shop that is all about quality and honesty. Mike is the guy you often find at the counter, setting up and estimating orders, he too, is very straightforward and knowledgable. I was concerned that my 2001 lifted 4wd F250 may need some expensive suspension work costing between $900 and $1,800. Gary said I should do and inspection first, for $29. Two hours later, he called and said the track bar was loose, so they tightened it up and everything else was fine. So I my suspension issue was resolved for $29. I asked for a front-end alignment and wheel balancing, but Gary suggested it would not help much and if I was getting tire soon, that would be the way to go, and then get the alignment. I bought tires on the web and brought them in. I also asked to have my headlight bulbs replaced with high intensity bulbs. The cost was very reasonable, and in fact, less than the estimate, and the work was done very well. It is hard to find someone you can trust to be honest or competent, let alone both. So next time you need some work, I would suggest giving this shop a try. I bet you will be pleased. I certainly am! read more

Was referred to Midas on McHenry by Phil Burch at America's Tire Co. in Modesto. Took my 98 Tahoe to have it aligned after new tie-rod ends and tire rotation. The guys at Midas were very nice and helpful. I was told that I needed to trim the length of one of the tie-rods and then bring it back so they could align it properly. I did so and returned a few days later and dropped off the vehicle for the day. The owner showed me later that day that he was unable to align my vehicle due to a ton of play in the front end. I also needed to replace my upper ball joints. He recommended I replace my lift or take it off. He took the time to put the truck on the lift and show me the front end movement. All of this time, effort and hard work and he didn't charge me. I am quite impressed with the service, honesty and extra effort this location put in for me. Albert, the store manager, is super friendly and knowledgeable. I asked him if my car battery needed to be changed out as it's over 5 years old. They checked my battery and told me that it's not necessary. Albert is very honest and up-front with the customer. They won't pressure you to have work done that you don't need. Came in to get my tires fixed. They quoted $80 less than down the street for comparable tires. I had to wait my turn so the entire thing took three hours. I'm a patient guy so I read a few magazines and had a good time chatting with the owner. The product and service were exactly what I paid for. While there I witnessed quite a few customers come in for quotes and asking if they could skip the repair (on critical part failures no less) and just get a bandaid to keep it going for a few more months. This might be the source of a few bad reviews because they firmly let the customers know that was a piss-poor solution. If a car is about to fall apart you're an asshole for taking it out on the highway day after day potentially risking yourself and everyone else out there just to postpone a repair bill. Sure it sucks to spend money like that but that's part of owning a car. I watched far too many people walk in like this and I appreciated their no-nonsense approach to it. On the other end a few repeat customers came in with minor issues which they fixed in under five minutes and didn't charge them a thing. That's the kind of respect for a repeat customer that keeps their loyalty and shows that they're more concerned with the customer than every nickel and dime. read more

I was referred here by American Tires which I have had awesome experiences so I figured I would give them a try. My car broke down so I had it towed here to be diagnosed and fixed. Ended up needing a new battery and alternator, which I knew was the issue so I felt comfortable paying for the services. They got it done in great timing I would say about 3 hours which I didn't mind because I told them I would be out that day to take their time. When I arrived to pick up my car, they were very helpful in explaining the work they did. I would have given them 5 stars except they recommended services I know I don't need. They recommended a transmission and coolant flush but I had got those done a year ago. I know for a fact you only need to flush those systems once in your cars lifetime despite what shops tell you. They recommended an oil change and a timing belt change which I know I needed but I decided to take my car elsewhere due to their lack of honesty or knowledge, don't know which one it was but either way I won't come back. read more

With Midas, or any other chain, it is always going to cost more and you will almost certainly need other work done than what you brought the vehicle in for (remember: they, even as a franchise, have sales quotas that they MUST meet from Corporate. With that said, they quoted me around $90 per axle less for a complete brake job than their closest competitor; they were even $30 less than another Midas shop. The service was done in the time quoted and for the revised quote (after inspection). I'm as satisfied as I can be with rates of over $100 / he for repairs. read more
