Today I took my Ford F-250 in for a tire rotation and brake inspection. I thought I needed brakes and I told them that because I heard a squeak so I thought it was my indicator making noise. After a short time I got a call that my truck was ready that my brakes were good and it was just a little dust that made the squeak. And they did all this at no charge. Stay Away! This is a typical chain auto repair/service scam... Go in for a $19.99 oil change and I guarantee they will find something else that needs to be replaced. They are not cheap! Stay Away! Better off at Walker's. They may be incompetent also. Went in for a minor repair, their diagnostic said it called for new engine!!! Really? Took it to Walkers, replaced plugs and it is running great, stronger than before. New engine???? Owner and manager seem nice. Not sure about competence of so called mechanics. The mechanics here only know how to do brakes and don't believe them if they state they can do other repairs, because I know. They put the bearings on my car wrong, and I had to go back. When I went back, they tried to tell me that the bearings were okay. I had to go to Sears to get a second opinion before Midas would even consider looking at my car again. And, they also stated that it would be the next week to do the repairs and did not have time for me. I then stated that I would turn them into Bureau of Automotive Repairs, then they suddenly made time for me. I told the manager that his people did not know what they were doing, and maybe they should just do the brakes on people's cars, nothing else. I saw a couple of the mechanics out there in the garage struggling to figure out how to fix an oil plug that they broke during an oil change. That took about 3 hours, and I felt bad for the lady who had to wait for that repair. We both felt we were asking for the moon because we just wanted to have the repairs done right!! In the past I've always taken my car to Midas on South McHenry location but I moved so the North McHenry location was closer to me. Took my car in late February on a Friday...at that time I thought my other vehicle I hadn't used in awhile would be driveable and told them that there was no rush. Went home and unfortunately that wasnt the case. I didnt get a phone call on my car at all that day and I had dropped it off in the morning. So I called right before closing and the owner told me they hadn't even started looking at it because I told them there was no rush. That doesn't mean you just let it sit there doing nothing to it all day. I didnt my car back until Monday cause Sundays they're closed. They fixed a clutch panel in my transmission and replaced my power steering. Cool. Awesome. Great. A week or so later my car is making the same noise as before with my power steering. It has a year warranty. So I took it back in....they had it for a day and told me my power steering was fine and now i had a broken front motor mount (which i can feel so i knew that) and that my alternator was going out, not the power steering, and my CV joints were leaking. Didnt have the money then....but now I took my car to the Sears Auto Center and they told me it is my power steering. So Midas was wrong. When I would call the owner sounded like he didn't know what he was talking about or what was wrong with my car. No communication at all. Super disorganized. The only positive I have is that their receptionist Nicole is awesome and amazing! read more

Always get my oil changed here but today they told me I had one nail in each of my back tires in an unrepairable area. And that I could buy two new tires for about $300. Took my car to Les Schwab and while, yes there was 2 nails, one was completely repairable and one did not go all the way through the tire so it did not even need a patch. And, my tires pressure were all 5lb lower than what they should have been, even though midas said they put air in my tires. Now, Midas either has no idea how to deal with tires or they were trying to scam me into buying 2 unnecessary new tires. Either way, I won't be coming here again. read more

This place is a RIP OFF. I went here because my car isn't reading the temperature, I can't tell if it's getting hot or not, which is scary! I tested my car with one of those things that tells you what's wrong with it, brought it in, and told them, they didn't believe me, said they would check it themselves. They charged with me almost $100 to tell me EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD THEM! Then wanted to charge me almost $700 to replace things that work fine, they didn't even acknowledge the real problem. Unfortunately I've had several problems with my vehicle lately and Carl has been very fair with me. Everyone in the shop is friendly and so far it appears that the work is first class. Went there with no appointment. They got me in and good by 2pm. After a terrible experience at Aamco, I was hesitant going anywhere. (I caught their technician taking my car out for fast food when they were supposed to be working on it.) the service was excellent and my 14 year old car runs and drives better than it has in years. Came in to get my brakes done; the staff is friendly and honest, let me know the brakes were not metal-on-metal yet, showed me exactly how worn down they were and didn't try to sell me on repairing the rotors (which obviously wasn't necessary). This was my first time going outside of my comfort zone for some car maintenance. I usually go to my brother for all car issues. Since I have moved out to Modesto that has made it a bit difficult to get my car to my bro. Long story short I was due for an oil change . Had a coupon for Midas. Called in advance to set up the appointment. Super friendly staff who prove to be knowledgeable. Showed up and was greeted by two front desk staff. These people were so fun, we were cracking jokes and laughing , I felt like I knew them for years! I wish I could remember their names . My car was taken into the garage and serviced . Along the way they repaired my blinker and bulb ! Amazing customer service ! Super friendly staff! I was in and out in a timely manner . Brought a car in today (Black Friday) mostly because they were open. I hate finding new shops. I was pleasantly surprised. It needed a wheel bearing. When they got into it they discovered the hub had been damaged also. My daughter drove it a looong time before mentioning it was making noise. Price wise I am not sure compared to other independent shops (who all seemed to be closed) but they were half the dealer quote. Friendly, helpful staff. Would use them again. This review is actually for the Midas on Mc Henry down by Five Points (that one didnt pop up in the search).. Anyway, Ive been coming here for a while now and I always get great service. The staff there seems to always be different every time I go, but whoever is helping me is usually very courteous and helpful. I only go there for oil changes and when they do one, they check out your car and tell you everything that is wrong or going to be a problem in the future. They tell you what's wrong and aren't too pushy about it. They don't seem to care if you dismiss their recommendations to spend more money on their other services and I like that. read more

Went in for an oil change, well that was the plan. But decided to get my axel fix their too. That's where the problem began. My car never leaked before and ever since they "fixed it" it's leaking. To it back to get it "fix" and waited a whole week. Got it back oh wait it still leaking. Seriously! Never had an issue like that before. Now I got to wait to get it looked at again. Hopefully it doesn't take a whole week again. The guy at the front really nice and was good at helping and only reason they get two stars. Honestly I don't think the mechanics know what their doing. They sounded like they did but from the results I have, it might not be true they know what they do. Might not even wait to get it check. I should of gone to my local mechanic instead, but wanted to save some money. Guess that's what I get for trying to save some bucks. I was sent here because my moms husband goes here as I've been using his SUV and was time for an oil change. He sed about $31-$32. He made an appointment for me and I went in and da big redneck at the counter was beyond rude. No greet, Hi how may I help you? Nothing. He acted as if I was bothering HIM. IDk if he has a problem wit butch looking lesbians but I got the feel that he was intimidated by my presence as he was short w.me and rude. He asked for my keys and walked out da door as I trailed behind him he didn't hold the door for me and it slammed on me. Very heavy. He made his calculations and came out to $37!! I told him My moms husband said it would be about 31-32 dollars and he gave me some line about labor. I felt he was over charging me. I was beyond offended by this man's lack of customer service. I asked for my keys back and left, of course not before letting him know that his customer service was beyond rude. One of these days that man is going to judge the wrong individual. Stay far away from this place. Especially since they will most likely over charge you for what the next shop down the street will do for a cheaper price and all the way around better service. read more

I recently moved to Modesto and didn't know anybody so I couldn't get a recommendation for a mechanic. My car died; I brought it to Midas. the diagnostic didn't show anything but they figured out it was a part of the fuel pump. They replaced it but 2 days later I was in the same situation. Had to have the car towed from Redwood City to Modesto. They had the car for 5 days, waiting for it to fail because, wouldn't you know it, once I got the car dropped off at the shop, it started right up. Anyway, long story short, they identified an additional problem and Mike, the manager, did not charge me for the part because he felt they should have investigated further the first time. They went above and beyond to get me back on the road, staying after closing hours to get the programming done. I've bought tires from them and had my front struts replaced also. I feel they are very trustworthy and do a great job. I thought Midas was just mufflers! Nope they do it all. Highly recommend them. read more

We use to get our cars serviced here. We apparently made the mistake in July of 2009 to have them do more then just oil change. We were told our water pump and all hoses, belts and motor mounts needed to be changed. We weren't able to afford to have all the work done so we had everything but the mounts done. We drove it for about a year in a half with what we believed was the motor mounts getting worse because the rattle. Finally on a drive up the hill the jeep took a bad turn. It sounded like the fan hit the radiator and that possibly the engine moved. We had it parked and thought the motor mounts finally broke so we would have to wait to have money to fix it. Now fast forward 2 years later and having the money we decided to tow it to a different shop we trusted. He called to tell me that the wrong pump was installed and its obvious. He said this is what has been your problem. I proceeded to call Midas where the gentlemen told me in so many words its to late but he would call the owner and call me back. He did call back and told me that it was the right pump and that the owner said he would be willing to cut me a break on the labor. I told him that I wasn't interested. They installed the wrong pump and because they gave me false information about the motor mount we let the jeep sit. I told him I would just call the Bureau of Automotive and he just said fine bu by. When I called back for the owners name he said to me , you can call who ever you want. He wasn't the owner at the time. Then he gave me his name. Thing is the owner was affiliated with the store at the time and you should back your company. Most of all the same people are still there. Take your car to a Real shop for work beyond an oil change. And honestly I don't even think I would trust that. read more

Before taking my car in I was frustrated with this Midas location because I thought they had not fixed a recurring issue during a previous job. Turns out it was a separate problem with my car. Despite being short staffed and very busy, they worked on my car all day. I was worried that because it was an all day job they would charge a high price for labor. However the price I was quoted that morning was the price I payed, and I was very happy about that. Kevin also gave me a ride back to the shop using his own car, 90 minutes after closing time. Based on this experience I will continue to use this shop. Very impressed. read more

Do not take your vehicle here. They are overpriced and half ass their work. I've been "Behind the Scene's", and personally seen all the dirt. Changing oil and not the filter because it was "too hard" to get off. Shaving rotors down too far so the customer comes back to get them replaced. Customers come back and complain about alignments that were done multiple times a month. They tried lifting my aunts Honda and ripped a body panel off and refuse to pay for it. She saw the whole thing!!! Not to mention the Owner treats his employees like complete garbage. All the employees are drinking modelo's on the job! read more
