I have truly loved my experiences with this Midas! I have come in multiple times, and after my move I still take the effort to come to this shop because of my great experiences here. I moved out of town and try to plan my car work with visiting family because of unpleasant experiences in my new town. Mel, the owner, has helped me understand things very well, doesn't push anything on me, but just explains prices and options. He is amazing and always treats me like I'm not just the next customer but gives me a personal experience. Fair prices and amazing customer service. Mel and Thomas took better care of me than I have ever experienced. Going to get any type of car work is something I've always dreaded. I also, consistently, end up spending far more than I anticipate. This was not the case when visiting this particular shop. I found this shop to be the most professional, personal, friendly, and educational experience I've ever had when getting my car serviced. Stopped in for a simple thing and no more than 40 minutes, I was on the road again. Midas was willing to explain and educate me about my car and specifically about the work they were doing that day. The owner, Mel, was actively interested in multiple customers throughout my visit. He was jovial and kind. The mechanic was friendly. Very impressed with Jay and his crew. My father-in-law was visiting last year, and told me "I've found you a mechanic," and gave me Jay's card. He apparently had a great time at the shop, and everyone was friendly. I'm happy to say that I've had the process repeated a number of times. Whether it's an oil change or minor repairs (I haven't had them do anything major yet), the staff is friendly, the prices reasonable,* their phone demeanor excellent (something you don't always get with mechanics), and their service very good. I'd suggest making an appointment during busy times (Saturdays, Friday afternoons, etc.) as they do get busy if you just walk in. They have a location convenient to downtown (I hear they have a shuttle service, but have not asked about it), and their lobby is reasonably clean. I'm headed in soon for them to check our brakes--the Midas specialty--and I hope the good performance keeps coming. * An oil change here is usually more than one at Jiffy Lube, but I think you get better service. I made an appointment for today at 11:00, showed up at 10:55 and was told that they didn't have an open bay and I would have to wait "a few hours". I'll give the guy credit - he did offer to drive me back to work and pick me up after my car was done, but I declined. Nobody writes review for good service. Everyone writes about the bad stuff that happens. And every time something goes wrong with your car the day you bring it to a mechanic, or days after, you immediately assume it was the crooks at the shop that fucked your car up. When a mechanic tells you you need x replaced you immediately think it's because he's trying to get you to pay for more things. But just maybe you actually need x replaced. These are the types of review I've read about this place, and I just wanted to make sure I wrote a good one. I brought a newly purchased used vehicle in here for emissions inspection and I had a rough time. There were some sensors that weren't ready, or something (I don't know cars) but they said it was due to being unplugged or the battery being disconnected. They asked if the car had been worked on recently and it was. They said we just needed to put some miles on it and the sensors would be ready. We put about 70 miles on the car and tried 2 more times to see if the sensors were ready. They weren't. Then this mechanic comes out and tells us this series of very specific instructions we must follow in order to get it to reset. They seemed slightly crazy. Like, how would that help anything? We followed his advice and came back. The sensors were ready. We passed the emissions test. All was good. They were nice and helpful. The end. read more

-I scheduled an oil change for 4pm, but showed up at 5pm since my California phone had not updated the time. They shuffled around to fit me in. -I was not hassled about needing this or that (upsold), which I really appreciated -Rich let me know of an oil leak that I was unaware of due to a recent timing belt replacement (Honda needs the valve cover to be removed during this and the gaskets must not have sat right). He was great at explaining the dangers of this. -Rich also caught the cause of my engine vibration at idle which had previously slipped passed other mechanics. -They were honest about the condition of my car. I've been to places where they've said "oh you need new pads" when I clearly didn't. Thanks for going above and beyond your duty! -Tom read more

Do not go here for safety and emissions! They failed my car twice. After the first time I had my mechanic look at the issues they failed me for and the problems were fixed. Took my car back to them to have them test it again. Barely looked at the car and failed it again. This time I had 3 different mechanics look at the car and none of them could find a problem, one of the mechanics was a dealership mechanic. This was the worst experience ever and a complete waste of my time and money. Finally took my car to a different shop and guess what? There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I highly recommend Mel Andersson and his team at this Midas location. They took excellent care of me and my vehicle. I recently picked up some road debris that put a hole in my muffler. Initially I took my car to the dealer because my vehicle is still under warranty, but the warranty didn't cover the damage and required a special order part. I decided to shop around and I'm really glad I did. Mel was professional, fair, honest and now my car is good as new. I will return again and send my friends so they can have the same experience I did. read more

My car's brake pads were worn down to the point that pressing on the brakes made a grinding noise, I dropped my car off, and one of the employees actually gave me a ride to work. I don't know much about cars, and they could have easily told me I needed new rotor disc and I would have believed them, however they said told me the damage wasn't too bad and that new brake pads were enough. I really appreciate that they didn't take advantage of my inexperience to make more money. read more

Very frustrating experience here. Waited 5 hours for my service, even with appt. I've been here before and it was fine but had to ask every 45 min or so and was promised another "30 or 40 min". I came at noon and wasn't out of there until around 5 pm. They gave me a free oil change for next time, but it was pretty exasperating to wait so long and wish they'd been up front about it at the time I made the appt. read more

Terrible service. They pulled my tires off and put them back on as part of the routine maintenance. When I drove off I realized the hubcap was missing. I went back and asked them to replace my hubcap since it had clearly popped off when they were working on the tires. The manager came out and just refused to do it. He accused me of lying and said that people try to pull that crap on him all the time. He said that they do an inspection before to prevent this kind of thing but they forgot to inspect my car so it was essentially his word against mine. I had to sit and argue with him for 30 minutes before he finally agreed to replace the hubcap! It took him another 2 weeks to do so and he claimed he lost my phone number in the mean time! read more

This place is GREAT. Actually told me I didn't need any repair at all. And I'm a 75 year old granny. Even diagnosed the problem without laughing at me--I hadn't put the oil container top back on. All the while they were doing their work, I was enjoying the best cinnamon buns in the city. Then there was a wonderful conversation with Bart. He knows so much about pollution and possible cures. I do hope he finds an outlet for all his genius. I found him positive and brilliant. AND in excellent control of his shop. read more

They failed to tighten the lug nuts on one of my front tires after I went in for an oil change. I did not ask for a tire rotation but it is part of the plan to inspect the brakes and tell you it is time to spend more money on your car. Watch them closely, they can be deadly! New owner Mel Anderson went above-and-beyond in both customer service and human kindness when the engine of our class C RV suddenly stopped running on I80 and we had to be towed into town. On his first day at Midas, mechanic Skylar immediately diagnosed and solved the problem. While we waited for a part Seth and the rest of the crew investigated and fixed some other issues caused when a semi sideswiped us while waiting for the tow truck. Bottom line: These folks are customer-focused problem solvers, honest, and at very reasonable cost. Can't recommend them highly enough! read more

I took my car into Midas Aug 30 with a broken AC unit. They made a mistake and when trying to measure the voltage output of the AC, actually ADDED voltage, which essentially fried my car's computer. They took it to the Honda dealer to be fixed and promised us they would cover all costs, INCLUDING the air conditioning. I got a call (3 weeks after taking the car in) that the car was fixed, but Midas was refusing to pay for the air conditioner. They would not pay for it, saying it was "too expensive". 4 weeks later, on Sept 28, I am finally about to get my car back after I had to pay for the air conditioner myself. They were rude, unprofessional and incompetent when it came to fixing my car and providing us with helpful customer service after their mistake. I highly recommend that you DO NOT take your car to this Midas. read more

This facility is in relatively new ownership. The new owner is personable, helpful and has hired terrific staff. Pricing is fair and they don't try to talk you into things you don't need. This is the new 'go to' place for car repair in SLC. read more

I just had to take a second to leave a review for my new friend Mel, who made taking my car to a mechanic actually enjoyable rather than dreadful! I found this Midas via a Google search upon needing an oil change, tire check, brake light change, and (surprise!) new tires. I made an appointment the evening before, and on Saturday morning at 0900, arrived to drop off my car. Mel greeted me at the front desk, and was nothing but welcoming. He already knew who I was and what I was interested in having done based on my online appointment form. He told me he'd give me a call when everything was done, and offered to drive my car around the corner for an emissions inspection. Mel called me about an hour and a half after I dropped off my vehicle, and let me know all the work I had requested had been done. He stated that my rear tires were bare enough that they shouldn't pass inspection, but left the decision up to me as to whether or not I wanted to try to get it inspected anyways, or put new tires on the back. This actually didn't surprise me as I vaguely remembered making a mental note about this issue a few months this ago. He already knew that he had the tires I was currently using in stock, and what the price to me would be. He also quoted another cheaper option similar to the tire I was using, so that I was aware of my options. I went with the tire I had previously used, and Mel called me back about an hour later to let me know the tires had been changed. Again, he offered to drop my car off for emissions testing, pick it up, and then call me when it was done- all with a positive and upbeat attitude. At no point did I feel like he would rather do anything else. What a relief to feel like he truly cared about me as a customer! When I accepted his offer, he let me know that he would take it down immediately, and would call me when it was complete. He called me back about 15 minutes later regarding the location of my current registration, which I then realized was with me. I told him not to worry about it, and that I'd take it to get inspected myself. I arrived about 15 minutes later to pick up my Ford Focus, and Mel had everything ready for me. True to how he'd been when I dropped of my car, once again, Mel was friendly, and kept right up with my sense of humor. He offered down to earth, realistic advice to me, and when I introduced him to the friend I'd caught a ride with who was interested in hearing his opinion on her CRV after hearing me talking about him all day, was enthusiastic about walking outside with us to take a look at the 'problem' areas she mentioned. He provided her a very specific, "high limit" quote that was well under previous quotes, so that she knew what her worst case scenario would be cost-wise. He even offered up a little home advice for cleaning residue off her car battery so that we wouldn't have to pay $15 for 'my guys to use a fancy, red, high-end cleaner' to do the same thing. It only took about 5-10 minutes, and my friend had made an appointment with him the coming week to have the work done. Mel is the first mechanic I've ever had stand out to me as an honest, hardworking, and very real guy. It wasn't hard to tell that he is EXTREMELY knowledgeable in his line of work, and passionate about getting to know and keep his customers happy. Who else willingly volunteers to drop off and pick up your car for emissions inspections?! Pro tip? A bottle of Mt. Dew won't hurt your mechanic/customer relationship ;) I owe him a thank you one for sure when we drop the next car off next week... couldn't have asked for an easier and more stress-free experience. read more

I took my car in for safety and emissions inspection. They were slow at getting my car in, even though they made me make an appointment. They charged me $56 to replace a headlamp and blades, which seemed a bit steep. They seem to be one of those places that offers a pretty good deal for a necessary service (oil change, safety and emissions) and then finds a lot of things "wrong" while they have you in there and overcharges. There was a problem with my exhaust system, which they quoted me at $850 to repair, assuring me that they would be very competitive in price because they specialize in exhaust systems. My regular mechanic quoted me half that. Needless to say, I won't be going back to Midas! read more

great crew in the shop from what ive seen, shitty experience with being rushed and the turn around time of their parts, also on occasion i have heard how poorly treated some of the techs are in the shop, and to add how poor the communication is between service writers, "passing the buck" i should say. i have my fair share of experience in this field of work and i would have to say it is poorly operated as far as management is concerned! read more
