After discussing with Eric, who I believe is the store manager, he told me there's no way to prove they did it, even though I provided photos of the wheel from the day before showing no damage to the wheel whatsoever. Terrible management - avoid this location. On 3/27 about 4 pm I called ahead to make sure they could look at brakes in sprinter RV and they said bring it in. Since I was dropping it off late afternoon, I grabbed a beer from RV fridge took a sip and put the bottle in my wife's car as she was driving me home. They refused to look at brakes because RV too tall for lift and apparently smelling beer on my breath, determined I was drunk driving. Midas called the police and reported me as a drunk driver. I was not, after only a sip of beer and passed the roadside test no problem. Why is a car repair shop trying to enforce laws they have no knowledge of? We had no argument and no basis for them to call the police on an innocent customer other than to ruin a customers life. Now seeing the many bad reviews and thinking this is a systemic problem with this location. Manager Austin admitted calling police but could not provide any reason for doing so. read more

I loved my 2016 Mazda. It was my reliable, problem-free car for years--until I made the disastrous mistake of trusting Midas with an oil change. Two days later, smoke poured out of my car on the highway, and a fire broke out in the engine and bottom wiring. Yes, a fire--after a routine oil change. When I got it towed and inspected, the engine had a massive hole in it. A hole. How does something like that happen to a car with only 50,000 miles on it? I brought it back to Midas, expecting answers. Instead, I got excuses. They couldn't explain what happened, they dodged every question, and their only consistent response was, "It's not our fault." No accountability, no concern--just stonewalling. And as if that wasn't bad enough, while I waited for insurance to assess the damage, Midas decided to threaten me with storage fees if I didn't remove the car from their lot. Now, I'm left without a car, without answers, and no choice but to pursue... other avenues to hold them accountable. Trusting Midas with my car was the worst decision I've ever made, and I'm paying for it--literally and emotionally. If you want your car destroyed and a nightmare to deal with, by all means, go to Midas. But if you value your vehicle or your peace of mind, run the other way. read more

Took my car in because I could hear water slushing under floor and carpet wet. Was told $39 to check for leak. I was told leak caused by ac, it needed flushing so I paid for it ($74.13). Car sat without driving for the weekend and it rained, water still slushing around and trunk and entire interior of car floor is wet. Was told to bring it back and they will do a full check which meant they would run water over the car and somebody would sit in it and observe. I paid an additional $213 for them to tell me that I had damage to my trunk and that's causing water to get in as well as weather strips needed to be replaced, however they would not be able to do any repairs until I got the body repaired. I asked them to at least get the water out, which they said they would do. When I went in for my car they showed me the weather strips that were missing or damaged but no damage to the body, I bought the car new and it has never been in an accident. Water was still slushing around they would not remove the seat and vacuum up the water. I had to take it home, remove the seats and flooring, unplug the plugs on the floor and drain the water. Yes, me a 57 year old woman did what your employees couldn't or was unwilling to do. I'm disappointed in the experience at Midas today. I spent a good amount of time doing research on their website to select what I felt was the best tire option for my truck. I selected 4 tires from the website and requested an installation at the Midas at 5844 4th Street in St. Petersburg, Florida. The price quoted on the website was $1269 including installation and tax, however when "John" called from the store he told me that he had to get the tires from another warehouse and because of that my price would now be over $1500. He told me that if I did not want to spend $1500 he would try to find a different tire to SWITCH me into that he could do at the $1269 price but "still make profit". This place will rip you off... Beware! My SUV needed a new serpentine belt and pulley system and I was quoted $1,200 for the work. Found another mechanic within an hour who did the work for $350. Insane difference for a simple issue to fix... I'm so happy I went with my instincts and said NO to a loaner car and signing up for their CC, both offered to me to get me in quicker since the issue was "pressing". Everything is so expensive these days and big time companies like Midas should not be milking their clients for every penny they have. Silver lining.. You know when your car sounds weird and you just turn up your music and pretend it's not happening? Yeah, I did that for a week but then realized it could've been my wheel bearings. Sure enough, both front wheel bearings rusted out. My car is ten years old and I honestly don't think they've ever been changed in the front so I knew it was bound to happen. And yes, no matter where you go to get them fixed they're going to be expensive $$$$. Dan and Barry were very helpful and updated me throughout the day. Dan even drove me home when they said my car would take a few hours - now that's great customer service! The past two times I've been here the guys at this shop were always efficient. You never see them sitting around and wasting time. They're always working. I asked them about their COVID-19 precautions and they said they cover everything inside the car that the tech will touch...seats, steering wheel. That did not happen! Tech got in my car with one glove on, no seat cover, no mask. I went inside and said they needed to consider having their techs wear a mask when entering someone's car: "We'll consider that," as he walked away. They were about to disinfect my car before pulling it out of the bay, and I had to remind them that they needed to clean the car after they got out of it. I trusted the Midas touch to be a careful one within my car, but nope. I've been coming here for regular oil changes for a little over a year but I won't come back here again. This location price gouge customers. Fortunately I've always been one to research parts before committing to work being done. On Sunday 7/17/22 I Came in to have rear end noise looked at and I left car while they diagnosed the issue. Within the hour I get a call back from Jeff stating the total cost is going to be $1372.82. I asked for a breakdown of parts and labor and for the two trailing arms needed to fix the issue and I was quoted $639.98 for parts, and $593.97 for labor. I said I'll get my own parts so what would that cost me minus their parts cost and Jeff informed me $1266.83. This math doesn't add up. I ended up going directly to the car manufacturer and bought the parts for $55. (They just came in today 7/21/22). Informed the guy of this when I returned to pick up my car. I asked why the high mark up on price and he said it's the vendor they use nonchalantly. I understand making a profit on markup, but $55 compared to $639 is ridiculous. I do not recommend this location. They charged me $35 for the diagnostic which I paid and left. read more

Great customer service, oil change price is great bc comparing other places, they don't use poor quality oil. I also did the package plan "road trip" where it checks the car to make sure everything is fine before I drive across the state which only cost $10 more. When they analyzed it, they took pictures to prove to you that they are not scamming like some auto shops. For example, my break pads are horrible and showed me the pictures. It may be expensive though, but lifetime warranty on break pads. So worth it. read more

As I write this review, I'm reminded of the "you're not yelping" episode of South Park. First off, let me say that this is my first time using Yelp to write a revue either good or bad. So I'm not your typical,whiney yelper that's taken pussification to a new level here in America. So here goes. My experience was so bad at Midas that I felt it necessary to communicate it to all else who may spend money here. I'm a business owner locally and I'm personally astounded at the lack of accountability, character and blatant disregard for customer service at this establishment. I went in for an alignment. My vehicle had 4 brand new tires. About a month later I noticed both of my front tires showed aggressive wear from the outside in. Long story short, I went back 4 times to try and get the problem addressed and fixed. All 4 times I was told that someone would get back to me. Nobody ever got back with me. Now, my front tires are completely bald, steering wheel off center and I have to go somewhere else to get it fixed, again. I just left there for the 4th and final time. Nobody ever got back to me. Incidentally, as I walked through the door, one of the owners was there and I approached her with my problem. She didn't seem interested in hearing about my problem and proceeded to tell me that she would get someone to help me because she didn't know anything about tires or alignments. After my conversation with her I understand now, completely, why my experience was so bad. It starts with the leadership. If an owner of a business knows nothing about their business then these types of outcomes are inevitable. After she pawned me off on somebody else the guy said to me "why did you wait so long to come in?" I told the guy that this is the 4th time that I'd been there to discuss the problem because nobody ever called me back and that's why so much time has gone by. Now get this...he said to me "well I've only seen you twice." My next question was "if you've seen me twice, why didn't you ever call me back when you said you would"? It gets better. He replied "I've been busy". All while the owner stood right next to me and let this go on. After that comment I just turned and walked away. Neither offered a solution and both let me walk away. Now I have to buy 2 more tires and get another alignment. In summary, what was supposed to be a simple alignment and preventative maintenance to reduce wear on my new tires is now gonna cost me in excess of $500 for 2 more tires and another alignment. Midas, I gave you multiple opportunities to make this right. I was patient. You've chosen your path. Because of my concern for other locals that may fall prey to your chosen code of conduct, you leave me no choice but to inform not only all of the beautiful citizens of this great city of St. Petersburg but all other cities as well. Local,regional and national. Sometimes, the 1 person that you decide to screw over can possess a tremendous influence on your existing customer and your potentially new customer. Did my research , called Midas about this filter, Dan said they don't have it in stock but if i want to bring my filter,they'll install it. I left feeling incredibly disappointed in my experience. I had to return twice after spending over $700.00. I paid for new windshield wipers, a full set of new tires, and an alignment. After waiting in their lobby for about 2 hours they said my car was ready. I got in and drove away, excited about my new wipers since my old ones had been noisy for some time. When I tried my new wipers, no water came out from my pump and the new wipers were no different. It was rush hours, so I was annoyed that I had to immediately return to Midas and ask what was happening. They filled my pump and I left again. I tried my "new" wipers for the second time, and noticed they did not seem to work any better. I pulled over, and when I checked my wipers, noticed they were never changed out! I turned around again and went back to Midas. I spoke to a man in the Garage. He made it clear that I was somehow putting him out coming back a second time. I asked him how he thought it felt to spend over $700.00, and have to make to return trips just to make sure I got what I paid for. I dared to request he refund me for my wiper cost, and the man SCOFFED at me like I had made a totally unreasonable request. I wish I had looked at the reviews before I came here. It is obvious that other customers are having problems with this place. I think whoever owns this shop should consider reaching out to me and offering to refund part of my exorbitant cost. I will absolutely not recommend this shady bunch to anyone, at all, ever. Take your car somewhere that remember to put on your new windshield wipers when you spend over $700.00. Terrible experience! My initial contact with this shop was promising- a manager looked at my tire and suggested that a patch would not work (nail in shoulder), and said I could bring in a new tire and he could install it in 15-20 minutes for about $23, reset the TPMS, and $6 extra for nitrogen. Great. I ordered a tire from Tire Rack, got it the next day, and called Midas to set up an appointment. A different manager said bring it in anytime, they could do it in 20-30 minutes. The next day, I brought the car and tire over, and was told it might take an hour or so. I left the car, and they were to call me when it was ready. Two-and-a-half hours later, I called them, and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I picked up the car and paid $35, noting that the TPMS system was blanked out, but figuring I could do a manual reset. Once home, I noted that the new tire's pressure was 45 psi (should be 33), and that the interior of the car was FILTHY. There was grease all over the leather seat, the door, the dashboard, the exterior, and the carpeting. After spending over an hour cleaning most of it (I'll have to shampoo the carpet), I attempted to reset the TPMS. I tried several methods over the next 24 hours to no avail, so I brought the car over to my dealership in Tampa. They unmounted the tire and discovered that the TPMS sensor had been broken off completely by the Midas "mechanic" (see photo), so I had it replaced, which cost $200. I immediately drove back to Midas and confronted the manager who, predictably, said I should have brought it back to him in the first place. Like I would trust the idiots who broke off the sensor, over-inflated the tire, and left the car filthy! He told me he had to check with "the owner," who would be unlikely to repay me for the sensor repair. Sure enough, the next day he called and said he could offer me two free oil change coupons I said OK, mail them, and four days later they have not arrived. This shop apparently has incompetent and sloppy mechanics, and I would not trust them to change my oil, much less touch ANYthing else on a vehicle. Steer clear. UPDATE 5/22/17: After seeing my review here, I was contacted by Midas. Someone claiming to be with Midas "corporate" called me (their number was the local shop?), heard my tale, and then called back and refunded the entire amount I had spent to fix the sensor they broke. You get it all fixed then immediately leave with two brand new problems that weren't there before you took it there. It took five visits to this Midas to get my car (mostly) fixed. First time I went in to replace a clogged catalytic converter; they told me also had a leaky water pump and cracked exhaust manifold. Total bill just over $2,200. Upon starting the car up again, I noticed a high-pitched squeal that wasn't there before. I foolishly drove away, but turned around when (1) the sound wasn't getting any quieter and (2) my check coolant level light came on (yes, they forgot to refill my coolant when they replaced the water pump). Dan told me the squeal sounded like a bad alternator bearing and gave me a $600 estimate to replace the part. I took it to my brother (a former auto mechanic himself) who noted that the sound wasn't coming from anywhere near the alternator and that it instead sounded like the water pump Midas had just installed. He proved the point by taking the belts off all the pulleys and having me start the car up again briefly. Sure enough the squeal was still there. With none of the pulleys spinning, that meant the sound was coming from the chain-driven water pump. Took the car back to Midas and explained the situation. They fixed it on warranty and sent me on my way. In hindsight, it should have struck me as weird that my car was still sitting in their service bay four hours after they called and told me it was ready to go, but I didn't think anything of it at the moment. It was about 20 minutes after I left Midas that I noticed the new dent on the underside of my car between the driver's side door and front wheel. Took the car back to Midas again. Their service manager, Rock, inspected it, said it didn't look like it came from a mistake in putting the car on or taking it off their lift (the second time they'd lied to my face so far), but agreed to send it to a local body shop for repair at their cost. Fast forward about six weeks and my check engine light comes back on. There's also a lot of vibration in the passenger cabin that seems to be getting worse. Back to my brother who plugs in his code reader, and sure enough it reads as a fault in the catalytic converter. He also points out the rattle that I had heard before from underneath my passenger seat; he identified it as coming from the converter. Great. Back to Midas again since the part and labor are still under warranty. Dan (the same guy who had diagnosed a bad alternator bearing) now tells me he's confident the rattle was coming from a loose bracket near the front bumper, and that the check engine light was caused by a bad O2 sensor. I tell him pointblank that I don't believe him at all and to call me when my car was ready for pick-up. So I go back. The rattle under the passenger seat is gone; I presume they went ahead and replaced the converter anyway. There's still vibration in the passenger cabin that the tech says is coming from "behind the dash" and they'd have to take the dash out to find out what it is. Sure. Not a chance. I get the printout of what they found and there's a note on it that Dan hadn't mentioned before - "need motor mounts lot of play in them." Now I'm not an expert in auto repair but I believe the motor mounts would be what keeps the engine vibrations from reverberating through the rest of the car, right? Wouldn't that possibly explain the vibrations "behind the dash" without having to take apart my dashboard? I'm taking the car to another shop to have that checked out and repaired, if necessary. Anyway, I won't go back to that Midas for anything. If I went in for an oil change, I expect my engine would explode within a quarter mile because they forgot to put oil back in, and they would tell me it happened because the flux capacitor wasn't aligned correctly. Here's a business owner - Adam Ford - whom you cannot trust - Operating 2 franchise locations in Pinellas County: 4th street St. Peterburg and East Bay Drive in Clearwater. These 2 locations were previously owned by Midas Corporate headquarted in Illinois. We were customers of the 4th Street shop since 2009 when it was operated by corporate Midas. Then, Mr Ford, bought these 2 locations and registered the franchises under Midas Holdings Company. The Midas Touch went seriously downhill from there, to say the least ... High turnover of mechanics, very low morale. The mechanics under Midas payroll who really had the 'Midas Touch' all left as they were overwhelmed with Mr. Ford's expectations and cost-cutting initiatives. Needless to say, there is no intake person at the counter anymore, I witnessed the shop being used late at night (11 pm) for personal repairs in 2012 by mechanics doing work on the side. Not least, is Mr. Ford's swindling business practices and dishonesty. The 4th street shop replaced a clutch master cylinder in May 2013 on our Chevrolet. It failed 10,000 miles later in July 2014. Under the terms of the warranty, they replaced it free of charge, again with an "after-market" part and not original equipment. The part failed also 10,000 later in May 2015. Guess what? It failed again in May 2015. We contacted them for a THIRD resolution. Keep in mind, their incompetence is now dragging on for 2 years ....They kept the vehicle overnight and said they had flushed the hydraulic clutch system and so, it should be good ...But it's not good, the clutch pedal is unresponsive... . I think 2 years and 3 separate opportunities to diagnose and install reliable equipment is ample time to decide on a Auto Repair Shop's competence, honesty and business ethics, don't you? By the way, we have taken our chevrolet to 2 other shop for evaluation and they recommended to only install Chevrolet original clutch master cylinder because after market parts don't last. So I've been here twice. Both times I received excellent albeit rather expensive service. I completely distrust all car shops and that mindset didn't change with this one. They charge absurdly high diagnostic fees and in many cases, they do not waive it if you elect to do the service. Most places do that, so I'm confused why this Midas does not. Also, they charge a higher than usual cost of labor per hour. Look, it's not a bad place to go and I'm fairly certain you'll receive good service, but just be prepared to pay quite the pretty penny once you get your car keys back. read more

Wonderful service! I went in just to get a quote for replacing the air in my tires with NO2. The minute I drove up, a clerk came to greet me and took my car right onto the lift. Of course my demeanor was a bit cold since I was a girl at a mechanic. But the extremely nice manager John, from the UK, came back within 8 minutes and told me my tires were now completely filled with NO2. I asked what my total was and he said no charge!! All he asked is that i bring my car back to him if I ever need service!!! I was absolutely amazed. I even had my boyfriend double check that it was in fact NO2 in my tires and he confirmed it! Got an oil change and they forgot to put oil in my truck. The mechanic drove it around the block with all the lights and gauges screaming. I had to point out that he forgot the oil. Got an an alignment and it was awful. It drove worse after the supposed alignment. Had to bring it back immediately and missed out on a job interview. 5 times it's been brought back for a stalling issue and they still can't fix it but they keep charging me. Never going back!!!!
