My last visit was great so I scheduled an oil change on 1/15/25. Today 1/16/25 there is no oil in my car. The oil is puddled in the snow under it. My engine is shaking. I took a video and sent it to a friend who stated my engine could blow from the lack of oil in it. I did not have an oil leak to be clear prior to coming in yesterday. I just had to have my car towed to their site. I went in with no issues and now I'm concerned that whatever they did/did not do yesterday is going to cause major issues to my car! First off if you uses this place and that's if. There is no point in setting up an actual appointment with them or through the website. This is the second time I have scheduled an appointment with them to be in at 8am. And have even dropped the car off the evening beforehand. Both times they had not gotten to my car until almost 1pm. This time I even spoke and handed my key directly to the manager and confirmed my appointment and my contact information. Instead of using their key drop slot. Second, if you tell them what services you are looking for. You better make sure they did them before you leave the store. This is the second time I had specifically had my car scheduled for a service in this situation and oil change and it was not performed. Yes, my brakes had been replaced but my oil was not. And they have a discount for doing these two things. Even if they didn't have a discount for it. My car is in the air and the oil can be getting changed while someone starts working on the brakes. Over all shit experience with them. So no point in scheduling an appointment. Their entire crew is way too busy playing who's in my mouth to actually get things done efficiently and effectively. And they never do or perform all the services requested. This Midas is straight up a dumpster fire. With all that and they are still over priced. read more

I was in for an oil change and waited for about an hour when the manager informed me I needed brakes, shocks and struts. They showed me the brake pads and they looked worn and needed to be replaced. But, when they showed me my shocks and struts I couldn't see where they were leaking. There total repair cost was $2400. I decided not to have the work done and left seeking a second apinion. I setup an appointment the next day with another shop and they stated my shocks and struts were not leaking and said it would be $400 to replace my brake pads. I had them do the work. Yesterday, I purchased a 3 ton jack and did a tire rotation and I noticed both front struts and rear brakes were bone dry. I will never take my car to Midas on Michigan Ave in Ypsilanti. They are under new management and I think can't be trusted! read more

I purchased a beater as a first car 4 days ago and needed to get the brakes checked out since they felt barely responsive. After the inspection I requested the rear tires and front brakes be replaced. The job was completed in a timely fashion and the brakes are more responsive now. However a pain point came in asking about the rear drum brakes that weren't inspected. Apparently drum brakes can't be inspected without risking them falling apart if they're too old? And that you need to be willing to pay for a replacement if you do get those brakes inspected. The frustration wasn't with this claim but the entailment from the receptionist, which is that I would need to keep driving until the brakes are very clearly falling apart before I get them inspected. To me, this sounds like you are simply incapable of doing work on drum brakes or unwilling, but suggesting that I drive on potentially bad brakes that haven't been inspected is bad advice. Finally, after the repairs were made, I heard rattling under my car when I accelerated which lasted for a few miles before it stopped, hopefully that isn't a new problem that has been introduced by the repairs. I appreciate the timely work that was done on my vehicle but I lament the advice given by staff member to drive on old brakes until they 'clearly stop working' before getting them looked at, seems counterintuitive at best and dangerous at worst. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Took my vehicle there to get looked at for weird noises, told me suspension needs to be replaced and quoted at what I heard "700" I repeated "700? That's a lot but I guess I need it" then he told me it would be ready at noon. I came in at 2:30ish and my car was still no done. I asked about it and it wasn't ready. Waited for 4 more hours until it was ready. As soon as I went to cash out they told me it was 1700. I told him over the phone they said 700. "No I said 1700 you must've not heard me right". Even after confirming 700 dollar price point the man at the service desk did not correct me. As a college student working two jobs it was a real kick to the balls. They told me again...and this is DAY THREE of getting my car in as soon as they open in the morning-and they have done NOTHING and not even moved my car. Manager lied to customer concerning a bad set of wiper blades sold on day prior to the complaint. Manager promised to refund verbally over the phone, but when arrived I had to wait 45 minutes to be acknowledged by the manager and staff. Then an employee stepped away from his job station and threated to fight me over the disagreement I was having with the manager. To the point I provided the employee an address to meet me after work and this was ok with the manager. one Employee named Pete gave me cash out of his pocket to clear the issue brewing. Short story: I went on and told them that I wanted my 02 sensor changed out . I had it diagnosed somewhere else. They decided to do another full diagnostic and charged me $150 without consulting me before doing it. Very very shady. Manager talks at and over you, not to you. Not a comfortable situation as a female customer. Full story: Yesterday I went to Valvoline because my check engine light came on. The technician told me that it was my 02 sensor and that he would charge me a fair price of $150 to change it. I told him that I'd be going to Midas in Ypsilanti because I trusted them and they'd been working on my cars for over 20 years. I knew Bob and Paul do right by me and I was used to their stellar customer service. When I walked in, I was greeted by Rafe, the new owner/ manager. I asked what had happened to Bob and he said, "he left because of a mutual decision." I asked if Paul still worked there, "he said, " he decided to take a couple of months off, but I kept a couple of guys here on staff." I politely proceed and stated that I wanted to get my O2 sensor changed out. I'd explained that I'd had it looked at and the code that came up was the O2 sensor. He said, "we'll look at it and give you a call." After 3 hours, I called a few times until I got an answer. He told me that they were still looking at it to make sure it was the O2 sensor. I didn't mind waiting, but I thought it strange because I'd told him what I wanted done. Another hour later, he calls back and stated that it indeed was the 02 sensor and that they took it upon themselves to do a full inspection of the car. He said that I needed shocks, struts and ball bearings and of course an alignment. The cost would be $2000. He said he had a printed list of breakdowns of what everything costs. I told him that I would just come and pick up the car and not to do anything to it. When I got there, he told me that my bill was $150 for the inspection. I was taken aback because I did not ask for an inspection. He said that he had to pay his guys because they had been looking over my car for over an hour. I said, I'd never been charged for an inspection before and that Bob and Paul would have told me the prices before doing the inspection. He said, "I guess that's why they went out of business." ( Note: the previous owners retired. So the comment was uncalled for). I was so shocked that I paid and he gave me a receipt. I had to ask for my keys back, and then realized that the receipt didn't have the details and costs quoted. I asked him to give me a print out and break down of the $2000 that he said was needed on the car.. I asked for a print out that he said he was reading from earlier. He said it was in the computer. I'd seen him hold the paper and then he said he didn't have it. So strange how my price quote sheet just disappeared. He said he WAS BUSY and that I'd have to wait. There was one customer sitting in a chair over in the corner and me. That's it. I told him I'd wait, He said it could be a half hour before he got to it because he had another employee showing him something on the computer. After seeing that I was willing to wait, he said that he'd just email it to me. I then left, but had to call back twice because he still hasn't sent the email. Over the years, I've spent thousands on my car at Midas and don't mind paying for service. What I do mind is paying for service that I did not ask for, being talked over, talked at and disregarded. Customer service was atrocious, undermining and just plain dirty business. As a woman, I do feel that if I had a husband, boyfriend, or brother with me that I would not have been treated and spoken to so poorly. read more

I wouldn't take my car anywhere else for any auto maintenance. Bob, the manager, is awesome. He's down-to-earth and completely honest. They'll tell you exactly what you need done here and will never try to sell you on anything. I've actually brought a few different used cars here over the years. It's important to find your local mechanic that you can trust. The place you can bring your car when something is up but you don't know what, and you want to be able to have someone look at it, figure it out... and that you know is being totally honest with what you need and what you don't. I'm so lucky I found that place in Ypsilanti. As Bob has gotten to know me as a regular customer, he's done so much to help me out. He goes out of his way to locate good used parts for me if I can't afford brand new ones. He knows me and takes care of me. I'm glad he really appreciates regulars like that. I just have to call ahead and see what they've got going on... because they DO get really busy, all the time. Think about it, though... isn't it a good sign when the shop is always busy? read more

For the past 15 years through 2023 I've dealt with Bob and Paul at the Midas shop at 404 East Michigan Ave. They were honest, realistic, reliable and effective at maintaining my vehicles. They didn't oversell and sometimes pointed out less expensive or more effective alternatives. Those attributes earned my trust and it resulted in 15 years of loyalty from me including my two cars, each of the cars of my four kids who are now adults, and countless recommendations to others. Now in 2024 this store has new management. First contact was abrupt and cold. A minor repair cost seemed high but I just paid it. I needed work on a different vehicle in my family "fleet" a few weeks later and contacted Midas (Rafe) for a price quote. It again seemed really high so for the first time in a decade I went out to a few other shops to compare for the same service. I found Rafe's quote to be 25% - 30% higher than everyone else. I'm really disappointed in the new Midas Ownership/Management. I never had to second guess Bob on price or service and spent thousands of dollars without hesitation because I felt like I was being treated fairly. Now I'm reading poor reviews from recent experiences of others. I've decided to start looking for a new shop where I its staff can be trusted and where I can build a new "Bob-type" relationship. They reported that all is well at this point, bring it back in in 5,000 miles. All staff we have had contact with are friendly, professional, thorough and honest as the day is long. When something goes wrong with my car, I have a full-on panic attack because I don't know how to fix it. Even thinking about needing to get my car fixed causes major anxiety! I am powerless; I don't even know how much something should cost to get fixed!! That's why I love Midas. They have "on-the-wall pricing," meaning you know how much everything costs before you order it. It literally is the fast-food restaurant in the car repair world. It helps with the anxiety a bit. The guys who work at this Midas are amazing at what they do. I especially love the manager, who has always been extra-friendly at the counter and checks each car in and out personally. When he misinterpreted a comment I made about one of his employees, he was overly apologetic, even though I wasn't complaining. He knows his customer service skills and knows how to keep people happy. He's especially good with the little old ladies!! The first time I visited this shop I desperately needed repairs!! I had put off repairing my car until the absolute last minute, mainly because of the anxiety I mentioned earlier. I stayed there until I got the estimate, which was WAY less than I expected (I think my anxiety caused me to think it was going to cost thousands, haha!) They took me in and physically showed me what was wrong and how they were going to fix it. After I approved the estimate, I went and grabbed some lunch and scratch-off lotto tickets and tried to kill an hour or two. They fixed my car in less time than they quoted me, for the price they quoted me, and they fixed it right the first time. It was so stress-free that I was so high getting my car back!! I couldn't believe something I was so freaked out about would go so smoothly!! They didn't even scold me for waiting till the last minute, for which I was thankful. Of course, I had more wrong with my car, but I didn't get it done on my first visit. On my subsequent visit, I had a very similar experience, where they fixed my car in the quoted time, didn't scold me for ruining my rotors by not changing my brakes when they first needed it, and fixed it for the reasonable price I was quoted. I couldn't be happier with my new (lifetime) brakes, too! I drive past here on a regular basis, and sometimes they are just bumping!! But other days there's not a car in the lot and they are standing there smoking cigarettes. It's a crapshoot, but they are really good at knowing how long things will take them. Honestly I can't wait till I get a moment to get my oil changed - they sent me a coupon for $5 off! While I have spent nearly $1000 there, they are keeping my car running, which is priceless to me. (Things they have fixed: Brakes, rotors, sway bars, new tire, serpentine belt, um... I think that's it. Might update with actual totals later, the invoices are in the car!) read more

First let me tell you how friendly Rusty was on the phone! Second... My son goes to Eastern Michigan two hours from home, he came home two weeks ago and his truck broke down we were thankful it happen at home( or so we thought) had it fixed( again or so we thought) sent him on his way back to school and three days later same problem occurs and our local shop wont stand behind their work. I called Rusty he said to have it towed on over and he would take a look at it.. He was super nice and even called the local shop in town to see what they had already done to the truck. Thanks for the quick and friendly service and also will be showing my son when he gets there how to fix and replace the fuse that blew.. It's first come-first served, but they can give you an estimate of the wait time. I sat and used their wifi for 45 mins or so while they did a FREE inspection. They took me into the garage, explained and pointed out a critical safety hazard, which I had repaired; other things that would eventually require attention; a minor exhaust leak that I could repair myself, etc. They seemed to have a really reasonable practical approach, good prices, and an efficient front desk operation. Called ahead about oil change and tire rotation with a coupon and they were able to see me same day. They were prompt and helpful.
