2019 Season not worth going. My family and I have come here a few times over the years and a couple years ago had good experiences. In 2018 we tried to come in December ~6-10ish, and found the farm closed as they'd sold out of available trees. We chalked it up to our being a bit later in the season. This year we're here Saturday after Thanksgiving and the place is barren and the majority of trees near the shed are gone. The prices have gone up again too. Apparently last year they were $85 for up to 6' (and $10/ft over 6 foot) and this year they're $95. A couple of years ago they were $75 and the trees weren't this ratty looking. We enjoyed the scenic drive and got a good walk out of it, but we'll be hitting up a tree lot on the way home where we can get nicer trees for less. If you want some outdoorsing, this isn't a bad option, but for a tree I would go elsewhere. Edit to add: I can appreciate based on the owner's response to my comment that the tree farm has had issues with disease decimating their stock, and that is unfortunate, but my husband called the farm before we headed out there to ask what the supply was like, and this was not mentioned at all by the lady answering the phone. read more

We drove an hour west to check this place out after all of the great reviews on Yelp. Can't blame them for poor inventory (I think it's been a couple of rough years for these farms), but there weren't many options. We arrived at 9:30a the day after Thanksgiving and I was surprised how little inventory they had. They give you a map and let you have at it. I was a little surprised that there was no one walking/driving the fields for customers. We found a tree and cut it down no problem. Hauled it to the front using one of the carts that they provide. They are pretty strict on charging for exact footage of the tree you pick. Which turned me off a bit. You're really going to charge me $10 extra dollars because my tree is a few inches over 6ft? I guess I should've just cut more off the bottom.. When you check out they had water coolers and a tin can of cookies. No music, no hot chocolate, etc. The service was rough. They carried the tree to the car and put it on top of the car, the tree rolled off immediately. No help tying it down or anything. Was really surprised. Even at Lowe's they help you tie down your Christmas tree! I'm not saying this place is the worst, but I was very surprised by the amazing reviews...until I found on their website that they offer $5 off if you write a Yelp review. Hmm. We've always talked about cutting down our own tree, and this year we finally did it. We headed to Middleburg Christmas tree farm Friday after Thanksgiving, and a lot of people had the same idea because it was pretty crowded. The scenery approaching the farm is lovely with rolling hills along the way and a few miles after the quaint town center. The xmas tree farm is down a long gravel road, but it's nothing a Honda Civic can't handle, although, we were one of the only people without an SUV. The farm is rather large and grows Douglas Fir (which we decided we wanted), Norway Spuce, and Blue Spruce. The owner tells you all about the trees: DFs are the most fragrant (lemon and pine) and are the most full but the branches are a little weak (although they are fine even for heavier ornaments). We searched the property (not all of it--the farm covers a lot of ground) and found a lovely 7-foot pear-shaped tree. You could easily find a 15-foot tree here if that kind of thing floats your boat. They give you a saw, a cart to haul the tree, and free twine to tie it on your roof or to use for securing your trunk. They sell wreaths as well, and there are porta-jons on site. A 6-foot tree is $60, and it's $10 extra for each foot you go over. (If you sign up for their mailing list during checkout or print their coupon on their site, you get $5 off.) They bale the tree for you, and they also put it into a shaker-machine which knocks off dead needles and any critters that may have made a home in your new tree. Oh, the farm is dog-friendly, too! And while all of those people in their SUVs were spending an hour tying their trees to their roofs, we put the back seats down, shoved it completely into the trunk, and off we went. The Middleburg Christmas Tree farm is absolutely beautiful, with a lovely variety of trees and price ranges, there's certainly something for everyone. My family and I had so much fun hunting amongst the pine needles finding our perfect tree and then cutting it down ourselves! Thoroughly impressed with both our experience here and our tree! Everyone was so nice and it was such a fun experience. We went the Saturday after Thanksgiving, early in the morning. It wasn't too busy and we were able to spend all the time we needed finding the perfect tree. Tips- bring some gloves and a measuring tape! They will provide you with a saw, a cart to carry the tree, and twine to put the tree on your car. We went here yesterday to cut down a tree. The location is easy to get to. Parking isn't horrible. But there were barely any trees left. They had some huge ones and tiny ones but that was about it. Very disappointed today. We have made a tradition of going for the past 9 years. This year we were so excited to take our almost 2 1/2 year old, who is now realizing how fun Christmas is. We got there and there was very little inventory. We decided to leave because we didn't want to spend that much money on a tree we didn't love. As I gave the attendant the saw, he said that there was another field. I told him I didn't want to walk because of my toddler and I am pregnant. After a short drive and a very difficult walk in the mud, we made it to a steep slope. There was no way I could have traversed the slope to get to the good trees. We gave up and went back. Obviously not blaming them for the mud but he told me it was an easy walk. So disappointed this year. read more

We come every year to cut down our tree. Staff is always friendly, helpful, and more than happy to take a group picture for you. Large variety of trees in terms of sizes and kinds, and all appear to be healthy and in good shape. Also love the fire pit to warm up! *update: 11/30* went to get our tree today. They advertised hundreds of Douglass Firs over 6 feet - and in years past we've never had trouble finding beautiful trees in the 8-9ft range - but this year we ended up with one that was barely 6ft. It was really disappointing. Still love the farm and intend to go back next year, but hope they will have taller trees like we are used to. read more

We've been getting our tree from these folks as long as I can remember. The place is wonderful, the drive is great, and the selection is fabulous. We spend about $100 on an 11' tree every year. We've taken our dogs and grandchildren many times; they all have a blast. The crew is super helpful and sitting around the fire outdoors is just fun. There were not many big or full Christmas trees. A majority were maybe about 4ft- 5ft and missing patches. Never the less fun for family to hike around trying to find a tree and great for pictures. Many people brought dogs. Many different type of Christmas trees! Unfortunately we had to buy a tree elsewhere. read more

2018. Do not waste your time, there are very few trees. This was my 10th year going to Middleburg Christmas Tree Farm on opening day - the day after Thanksgiving. We have had beautiful, perfect, full trees which last through January every year. Not anymore. We spent hours looking for a tree - there were hardly any, and the ones we saw did not look great. We saw several abandoned carts in the fields where other people had given up. We also saw several cars drive away empty, as we did. I am writing this, my first ever yelp review, in the hopes of saving someone else the time (and frustration) of making the drive out there and being disappointed. read more

Today, after cutting our tree down, I accidentally locked my child in the car with the keys in the ignition. We were advised to call 911 for the quickest available help. While the fire truck was there opening my car the owner of this place was yelling at them for blocking traffic. He never once bothered to ask if everything was ok, he didn't even ask why they were there. It was disgusting, who yells at volunteer firemen who are there to ensure the safety of the public?! Each Year after we have searched the grounds for that "perfect tree", we take our family Christmas card photo in front of it just before cutting it down. This year was a disappointment. We've been coming to the Christmas Tree Farm as a family tradition for many years. This year was a shock. Very little inventory, and what they did have was diseased and withered. Must be some kind of a tree blight or something. We saw many people arrive, look around, and drive off with no tree. Prices are VERY high and selection was only so so spread over a very wide area. They don't take credit cards (for trees they are charging $75+ for) and don't display this prominently. Not very friendly staff. Honestly amazed at the good reviews for this place. The people at Middleburg Christmas Tree Farm were wonderful -- kind and helpful -- but they did not tell us when we started out that they have acres and acres of trees that are 3-5 feet tall or smaller, and a handful that are over 15 feet tall, and nothing in between. We drove 90 minutes hoping for a large selection of trees to choose from and wanted an 8-9 foot tree. We walked the entire property (which was beautiful and large) but found only one tree over 5 feet tall. After we'd spent so much time looking over the entire farm and dragging a wagon behind us we couldn't bear the thought of leaving empty-handed so brought home a 6-foot tall tree that is much smaller than we wanted, is very lop-sided and has big bare spots in several places. When we started out, I said we were looking for an 8-9 foot tree. If they had either pointed us to where such a tree existed or told me that they didn't actually have any, our outing might have been much more successful. We weren't alone either... every family we met out in the fields was muttering the same thing... "why are all the trees so SMALL?" or "where are all the medium-size trees?" There weren't any. It seems like the acres and acres of small trees need a few years to grow up and out. When they do, there will be a spectacular selection, but until then the selection is very very limited unless you want a baby tree. read more
