Went in to have a watch band repaired and Wow - they were so great. No waiting and they offered to clean my wedding band as a bonus. It has 16 diamonds on it. I stopped by for a watch battery replacement, as they were offering a free battery coupon. I was glad they were limiting the number of people inside (I had to ring a doorbell to be let in). I was very surprised that the gentleman opening the door was without a mask - he didn't even have one around his neck. I felt very uncomfortable but decided not to say anything. I thought masks were mandatory indoors. He took the watch to the back room and returned to tell me the watch didn't work even after getting a new battery. Overall, I think that these guys are clever and talented and very professional. I was a bit frustrated in the process of them making a custom ring for me. In total, I probably spent three or four hours over email and visiting the store in order to get my rings away that I wanted it. I provided lots of photos for added support. The ring is still not 100% how I wanted it, but it has been over a year now since I started the process and I am going to settle for what I have. The more that I look at it with my other rings the more that I like it. I would recommend this store to other people who are looking for a good selection of gemstones and pretty reasonable prices and great service. I don't think that I would select them for a custom jewelry piece though unless you have a lot of patience and flexibility if the piece veers off track with your original vision. There is definitely a difference between this shop and one of the big box jewelry stores. If you are shopping for a wedding ring or a piece of artsy gold jewelry, it really seems like this place may be the ticket for you. read more

I felt heard! I felt valued! They charged me a fair price and did absolutely beautiful work. Not only did they fix my ring - they made it better than the original. They identified the parts at risk (which really were problematic), talked me through the fix *beforehand,* and maintained the delicate aesthetic of my ring that I love so much. I recently brought a sentimental piece of jewelry in for an appraisal and cleaning as I was planning to pass this diamond and ruby ring on as a gift. I was warmly welcomed even though I arrived at the brink of closing time. Manny explained the cost for the appraisal, and also gave me choices and options; which left me feeling like I wasn't being boxed in - which was pleasant. I was told when the work would be completed, and I received an email to notify me, which was a great notice that it was time to pick up my ring. When I went to pick up the ring, I was greeted again with respect and a smile. The ring was appraised, the appraisal was explained to me, including the opportunity to have the appraisal updated in the future should I so desire. I'm not a big jewelry person, but I do have a few nice pieces and Manny and I had a clever conversation about ways he could help me update some "older" pieces so that I could begin enjoying them again. He was not over bearing, or pushy. He just made me aware of the services they could offer. I did not shop for jewelry here, but the showroom was clean and neatly appointed. Parking was ample, and the area well lit. If I do decide to refresh an old piece of jewelry or treat myself to something new in Madison I will delightfully come back to Middleton Jewelers. I was looking for a jeweler to restore the hammered finish on our wedding bands which had worn off over the last 13 years. I spoke to Josh, one of the owners, who let me know he could do the job. I dropped off the rings the following day and was told 7-10 days, however, when I mentioned I was going out of town in 6 days, Josh said he'd do his best to have the rings ready by then -- and he did! I picked them up and was blown away by the job he did in restoring the hammered finish to the platinum inlay of the rings. They looked as good as they did on my wedding day! Recently I broke a necklace that I've been wearing daily for the past ten years. It has very little monetary value but has immense sentimental value. Middleton Jewelers was one of the only places in Madison that offered to work on my necklace. Other places would not accept it because it was not a precious metal. Personally, I believe a good jewelry store that offers repairs ought to be able to work on any metal, as jewelry is not confined to a price tag. Middleton Jewelers gave me a very reasonable quote, and told me that my piece would be done in a week. I received a call the following day informing me that since it meant so much to me, they spent some extra time working on it and my piece was ready for pickup. Terrible customer service. I went in to design a custom eternity style ring. Went in twice--once to meet with the owner and another time to meet with the goldsmith to discuss what I wanted. I did not receive a call back, as the owner had promised me, with a price quote. I even called back and left messages and STILL didn't get a call back. In hindsight, this is probably a good thing because although they advertise as a custom jeweler, their portfolio was rather small and uncomplicated. They were also very vague when I asked who created their CAD designs and how involved I would be in the process. read more
