I really wanted to leave Midland a good review. We gave them a lot of work and spent a lot of money. That changed the moment there were problems and I started asking about work that wasn't finished. George, the owner, got aggressive and intimidating fast. The way he handles any disagreement is honestly hard to believe. Instead of talking through the issues and finishing the job, it was constant pressure and thinly veiled threats about getting paid. I actually told my partner that dealing with George felt like dealing with a mafia guy. It's the intimidation, the pressure, the whole "pay first, then maybe we'll talk" routine. There was still work that needed correcting. All it needed was a final walkthrough to sort out. Instead he turned it hostile for no reason. I've hired plenty of contractors. Projects run late, people disagree, that's normal. Feeling threatened for raising a concern about the work is not. I would not hire Midland again. In my forty years of life I have NEVER dealt with a company as negligent and unprofessional as Midland Plumbing. I hired them in early January to repair an old clay sewage pipe that was partially obstructed and causing backup in our home. They had to dig a large crater 4-feet beneath our driveway and ultimately drill a hole through our foundation wall to get access to it, which was understandable and I knew that when I contracted them to do the job. The problem was that... A.) they, as it turned out, did not completely seal the hole they put in the foundation wall B.) they did not back-fill the giant crater but rather just left it completely exposed and vulnerable to the elements. So on February 20th, after we had a heavy unrelenting rain storm, water literally was pouring through the unsealed hole and into my basement. When I called Midland and asked the receptionist if she could please leave a message with the owner George to call me back immediately, her response was "I'll see what I can do." I was dumbfounded. In the nearly three months since, despite dozens of phone calls, emails, and actual letters, I have still yet to hear from the owner. I even sent them an actual VIDEO I took of the water gushing in through the hole they put in my foundation. I have dozens of pictures and two videos I took that clearly illustrate that their sloppy work was to blame for the water damage to my home, but Still no response! Midland did send the same crew that did the sewage pipe repairs back to my home two days later to re-seal the hole. Which in of in itself, shows that they knew they were at fault. But while these gentlemen (the same two that didn't seal the hole properly) were here to fix their faulty work, they took multiple pictures of my laundry room and basement in order to concoct a bogus report in which they denied any responsibility for the damages they caused to my home (in total, around $2,000 worth of flooring and drywall and trim repair). Their report was loaded with false claims, misinformation, and lies as they tried to blame the water damages I experienced on crawl space seepage. I responded to their sham of a report with an actual accurate and truthful version with incontrovertible evidence to prove they were at fault. I sent it to them via UPS and had a signature required so that they couldn't claim to have not received it, but again they have continued to ignore me. To top it all off, when I repaired my driveway and filled the giant crater they had dug, I found three pairs of plastic gloves, an empty can of sealant, a spackling knife, and large sections of the old clay pipe that they removed and didn't even bother to properly discard. Oh, and when they came out to cover up their mistake, they had to borrow one of my shovels, and left with it! Do not make the same mistake I did by hiring this company as you will most assuredly regret it. I needed to reroute an outside sump pump discharge hose. Midland's estimate was $1200. A small 2 inch hole, which was totally unobstructed, had to be drilled through a concrete retaining wall. When completed the job took about $100 in materials and took two hours to complete. $500 an hour for labor seemed excessive, so I requested an adjustment on my payment. Midland responded that there was a set rate for concrete drilling - even though the drilling site was unobstructed (no digging a 3 X 4 foot hole 5 feet deep to reach the drilling site). It took 5 minutes to drill. Is $500 an hour labor charge excessive? You be the judge. Note - I'm located in Oakbrook Terrace, not S.F. In response to George B. reply: The drilling was through an unobstructed concrete retaining wall - not a foundation wall. Also, the only materials needed to do the drilling was a concrete drill. On the Friday before the long Labor Day weekend I had a sewer shear at my home. A friend recommended and called George at Midland Plumbing in Villa Park. George called me as soon as he received the call. He came out to take a look at what needed to be done. George and his team worked like a well oiled machine to secure permits, mark utilities and set up inspections with the village and whatever else was required. He explained how the work would be done and answered all my questions. Samantha in the office responded to my requests for proposal information, copies of permits and anything else I asked for. The team that came out to replace the sewer were professional, worked seamlessly and cleaned up the worksite when they were done. All while being respectful of my home. They were sent by Sears Home Services and they took 20 minutes to decide if their services were covered. Then they insisted they needed 2 men for the job of clering a waste pipe from my washer. I'd have to pay $65 for the second man because Sears wouldn't cover it. I agreed and they went to work for 10 minutes and declared the job done. For the life of me, I can't say what the second man did. After they left, I ran a load of laundry and with the first drain, I had water all over the kitchen floor. I called them back, and I called Sears Home Service back. Neither gave me any satisfaction. Nor would Midland come back to fix the problem. I did get a song and dance about their needing to pull down walls and possibly costing me $800+. I got a real plumber to do the job the next day for $240, no walls torn down, and my laundry is clean and my kitchen floor is dry. Don't call Midland whatever you do. read more

Unfortunately I was ripped off by Midland Plumbing. They had come to give me a quote to fix a leak at the base of the toilet costing approx $375 parts and labor. Came back a week later and plumber claimed my water valve had to be replaced because it was about to burst and cause major damage to my unit and those around me. The valve had been replaced approx 7 yrs ago and there wasn't any apparent damage before he touched it. When I asked how much that would cost he couldn't tell me cause he had to look at the price sheet and he didn't have it with him. He made me believe there was a standard price sheet in the industry for this type of work. That's when I started questioning his ethics. However, now I had no choice there was an obvious leak coming from the valve (that was not there before) and he said it was going to cause a lot of damage if not fixed. He wasn't even here for 2 full hrs and charged me $765.00 to replace the wax ring $165.00 and $600 to replace the water valve wich in my opinion didn't have to be replaced. Had to replace the water shut off for our house (two old gate valves) that had lost their packing and held together by plumber's tape. Bill came out to quote the job and was very professional and courteous. Spoke at length about the job and also inquired about my family and son who is actively serving in the Marines. Was looking forward to seeing Bill complete the job several weeks later, though George showed up to complete the work. George was just as courteous as Bill and was extremely professional. Was having a problem with leaking shower and tiles were popping off. Called Midland out to see what needed to be done. Plumber told me that they do remodeling too. After talking with hubby we decided to redo the entire bathroom instead of just repairs. I am soo happy with our brand new bathroom! I thought it needed updating but never noticed how bad things were until I saw the finished work and I am in LOVE with it. Would have kicked myself if we paid to get plumbing and tile repairs done just to make it look like the same old crappy old bathroom. The price was a lot better than i would have thought and probably would not have looked into remodeling until I got the quote from Midland. Had a problem with the pipe coming to my house from my well. They came out and fixed it. I paid them $725.00 for the repairs. They left a pile of dirt where they had to dig for the repair. I spoke with the owner about it. He stated that most of the dirt would settle after 5 or 6 weeks and that they could come out and take care of it then. They did and then invoiced me an additional $175.00. There was no mention about them charging me for it. Spoke with their office several times to resolve this matter.. She kept saying this an invoice that had to be paid. After going around and around with her I asked that she ask George, the owner, to call me to see if I could get him to remember that he said they would take care of the dug up area and that there was no mention of an additional fee. I made this request at least twice. He never called. Today I received another invoice for $175.00. As far as the work they performed, I am pleased with it. I would probably give them 5 stars. I was quoted 220.00 to have a water heater replaced and I purchased my own water heater. George told me that was the total price for installation. After it was installed midland hit me with an additional 160.00 for a valve and a piece of copper drain tubing and they just used the old tubing again from my old water heater. George told me that's what the valve and copper tubing cost which was a bunch of crap. I am hurting for money and I feel I was scammed. I would not hire midland again because of their additional cost that they add on after the work is done and anybody that hires midland and deals with the younger George is going to get ripped off. Had a plumbing issue, where the toilet was gurgling,and water and dirt was coming back up.... It was established that they didn't come with the right equipment, but they assured me, the problem would be in the area. I'm no plumber so I have no ground to stand on and argue. They cleared out half the pipe, and said they were done. I ran the water for several minutes and the gurgling started. I told them the problem was still there. I was told they don't know what that was, but the water is flowing... Still the same problem. Had to call them back up a couple days later talked to the person that answered the phone. She had an attitude and a mouth to go with it. When I finally calmed her down, It was realized that she was speaking to the wrong customer... She wanted to send the guys back to redo the job for $125... I'm not paying extra for a job that wasn't done right the first time. Said she would call me back that evening but failed to do so.... I never called back... Not worth having a heart attack..... Also on a smaller note. They didn't used tarps or anything to protect my belonging in the basement from the splashing of their equipment...
