I've never been to the lunch buffet (actually, I didn't even know they had a lunch buffet until I signed in to Yelp to write this review), but I had dinner there a number of times before moving out of state in 2007. On a recent trip back to Texas, my sister and I went there for dinner as soon as I got off the plane. The nice thing about going to Midori for dinner is that their basic sushi is half price. Service was a little slow this particular evening, but they were friendly. They brought us a free sushi roll bite while we waited for our seaweed salad, which was a nice touch. We shared the spicy tuna roll and the volcano roll (yum!!!) and had a few pieces of nigiri. We wanted some white tun nigiri because it tastes like little bites of heaven, but they were out of it. Maybe it was just hard to get around that time, because the sushi buffet I went to the next day didn't have white tuna sashimi like they usually do. Yes, I ate sushi two days in a row. I'm a sushi nut... what can I say? Doesn't that make you trust my opinion a little more, though? The only time I've ever gotten the wrong food was when I got some weird sweet egg sushi instead of eel... but that's because they were next to each other on the paper menu and I marked the wrong one, so it's my own damn fault. Extremely underwhelmed by my experience here. I try not to set my expectations too high for a lunch sushi buffet but with from the reviews, I expected a little more or at least comparable to sushi yaa/sushi ninja in Arlington. The food was clearly not fresh, the rolls were uninspired, flavorless and the ratio of rice to fish were bad even for a buffet i.e. 90% rice to 10% fish. read more

I'm here visiting, and was looking for one all you can eat sushi, posted a talk and received this suggestion. Their selection is not wide like others, such as Todai (comparing to the one I went in California), but everything in their selection was fresh, they had about 8-12 choices for rolls (rolls only), assorted tempura veggies, 2 kinds of salad, and oranges. Midori will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been going there for about 7 years now. The buffet is always great and fairly cheap, considering it's sushi and it's a buffet. Ordering off the menu is also cheap - the sushi is always fresh, always good. The staff and management at Midori are wonderful, friendly and always accommodating. Came here close to 2pm and the lunch buffet was almost over... However, we were seated and told that we could pile our plates full of food and to take as much as we wanted before they started cleaning up. They had a lot of rolls out, and I helped myself!!! There were different fried, baked, and traditional rolls... I was in heaven! One of the sushi chefs was so nice, and asked me if there was anything they didn't have out that I wanted... I asked him for a rainbow roll... he quickly started working on it, and I had two fresh HUGE rainbow rolls on my table minutes later. What service! The two waitresses here was absolutely wonderful and soo accommodating. She assured us not to rush as they had to clean up anyway. And although we didn't get any desert from the buffet line, she bought us a plate full of sweets to our table! Not the best sushi, but still very very good! Decent, but not great. The sushi's OK, but I always get the impression that it is better prepared or with fresher ingredients at competing restaurants farther up north on MacArthur. I just had dinner with my wife there and the sashimi looked like it was cut with a chainsaw, though the taste was alright. They seem to use wasabi on most of the rolls, which I don't like as much. Where they really lose points though, is in service. They are polite, but inattentive - no refills, dirty plates can sit on the table for a while before they pick them up, and getting the check takes a few minutes. Best sushi in Irving...well, you've got a couple other choices. Try the sushi burrito. It's unique, deep fried (for you rare haters and cholesterol seekers), and very delicious. It's a must-get when I'm there during lunch break where they set up this respectable array of dishes to choose from. Quite decent for the price too since you not only get sushi choices, but rice and other Japanese dishes as well. On the menu, Midori Special #2 is the powerhouse. I highly suggest trying this before anything else. Otherwise I would look like an idiot for totally pimping this place. read more

I still dream about this place when I go to bed at night. A friend of mine took me here, during AKON. He told me we had to try this place, and I am so glad we did. After pondering the menu, and enjoying free appetizers, we all went with different dishes. I ordered the tuna tower, my friend ordered the baked whitefish dish, and my husband got something else. The tuna tower was so incredible words cannot describe the party going on in my mouth. The baked whitefish was so good, my husband ended up getting an order of that in addition with his original meal and loving it. We even tried to go back the next day before we left for Austin, but it was sadly closed :(. If you're fortunate enough to live in the Dallas area... do yourself a favor and get the tuna tower or the backed white fish. It's totally worth it. read more

Good sushi and I love the lunch buffet. The menu doesn't seem to have as many creative choices as other sushi places I've been to. I considered knocking them down to 3 stars for that, but bumped them back up to 4 stars because they immediately bring out free miso soup and a piece of the house roll. Service is usually pretty good, but it can vary. Last time I went they were a bit off: they were out of several things (and forgot to tell us - they just didn't bring it out) and the green tea was lukewarm. I try not to set my expectations too high when coming to a sushi buffet. Especially since I regularly make the drive to Little Lilly Sushi, where I've been spoiled. That being said, I probably won't be back here. You can tell the sushi has been sitting out for a while. Their fish doesn't taste fresh, the rice can be dry and the nori is stale. Everything is edible, but it's just that....edible. The selection is VERY limited compared to other sushi buffets. Midori also skimps on their selection. I carelessly grabbed some shrimp tempura, low and behold it's FISH! WTF! (Don't get me wrong they did not label it as shrimp, but they also cut their fish into thin slices and flip the end to look like a shrimp tail.) They are too cheap to put out shrimp tempura. They are also too cheap to use avocado in their lunch buffet. I was trying to figure out what a certain roll was, it turned out to be a rainbow roll...with no avocado. Where's the rainbow?! I didn't pay for lunch, so I can't complain too much, but I much would have rather had Chic Fil A and that be a sure thing. Don't bother wasting your time or money here. After a lot of brainstorming, Midori Sushi was nearby and won the vote of all 3 of us to celebrate my Birthday dinner. Upon entering, we felt like we arrived earlier than the usual dinner crowd. only 2 other tables had clients, and a sushi chef was putting on his gown covering up his jeans and T shirt! We were seated pronto. The menu was pretty straight forward for a Japanese establishment. We ordered our drinks, Miso, Steamed Chicken (Yay!, most places only do Beef)) gyozas, and the kid's meal for my son. Midori Sushi Kid is what son ordered; a combination of shrimp, crab sushi and California roll. Wifey decided to have some Yaki Soba noodles, and I settled on their Sushi Combination 'B'. This is a sushi platter with a nice assortment of sushi. To be precise: tuna, salmon, white fish shrimp octopus, surf clam, yellowtail, smelt roe, salmon roe, egg omelet and eel tuna roll. Service was quite attentive, with our waitress checking on us every now and then. Water was filled frequently, and we were asked about refills on our soft drinks at regular intervals. The sushi was quite fresh. Freshly made in front of my eyes, it was delicious. The wasabi was of no nonsense strength. You take tad more than what you need to take and "open sesame" goes your sinuses, along with some emotion from your eyes. Mmmmm goodness! The pickeled ginger was mouth watering, as well. All of us must have loved our dinners, cause there was no leftovers, and no sharing either. For a short time, we forgot we were family. Wifey finished her noodles without offering any, as she usually does. Son finished his rolls without any complains, and I managed to clean my sushi platter too....no problemo! This place is located in the upscale Las Colinas area so I expected it to be on the fancy side, but it's very casual - almost dineresque. Wine list is virtually non-existent. Sushi was good enough to not get sick, but not good enough to want to rush back. Red snapper was stringy - not a good cut. I sat at the bar and it was a bit sticky. Chef was barely cordial. Not mean, just shy and without personality. I'll be looking for a better sushi place during my next trip to Irving. read more

This is a great little sushi lunch buffet. It was all rolls but I ordered some eel on the side it was also reduced price. They have salad, soup, chicken teriyaki, rice, etc. It was fresh and well prepared. The prices are good as well. We were there towards the end of lunch and before they started picking up the buffet they came to my table with a large plate of sushi and asked if I would like any more. I don't know if that was a common courtesy of if they noticed how much sushi my girlfriend had inhaled and assumed she would finish off the buffet for them. She's punching me right now. read more

To those interested, This midori location, the sole remaining, was very subpar. For one of two entrees, the taste of the sushi was overpowered by wasabi. Whereas the second entree took nearly 30 minutes to prepare and was still undercooked. it will soon meet the same fate as the Trinity location. read more

If you're looking for a cheaper sushi option in the Las Colinas area that still provides quality at dinner time, look no further. Located in the shopping center next to the Four Seasons, when you walk into this place, you may be doubting what you've gotten into as it's not the most glamorous looking place. But once you sit down and check out the prices on the menu and taste the food, you'll be a repeat customer for sure! At dinner, they automatically bring everyone a cup of miso soup and a free roll to try. Their sushi (non-roll) is always 50% off during dinner time every day. Example: 2 pieces of tuna with rice is only around $2.50! $2.50 for Tuna...are you kidding me? My fiance is a bit of a sushi snob and she raves about the place. They also have a pretty good wine selection too. We usually order a bottle of wine (decent one is about $20) and enough rolls and sushi to fill us up and we get out of there around $40. You can't beat those prices! Sure, you could go to the other chain sushi place in town and drop $80-$100 for dinner. I would check this place out first. You won't regret it! read more

The service at Midori's is wonderful. I'm glad that I can say this much because the sushi made me sad. At 6pm on a Saturday night, my trio of friends were the only people in a restaurant that could easily seat 100+. We stopped in because it was crucial to grab a bite before starving for the next 4 hours at a concert. The appetizer roll that they gave us on the house was a nice gesture and wasn't completely flavorless. Miso soup was also provided while we looked over the menu. I ordered a crispy salmon skin roll and it was a shell of what a crispy salmon skin roll was suppose to be. The rice to filling ratio was too high and the "filling" itself was almost non existent. I do have to mention that they did give me a nice matchstick pile of crispy salmon skin but other than that the role had no notable features. My friends rolls mimicked mine in terms of the rice to filling ratio. The waitstaff at Midori's is first class but the sushi could use a real makeover. No frills sushi restaurant! I went here for lunch and got the $7.99 daily special which included chicken teriyaki, California roll and tempura as well as soup and salad. There were lots of other patrons who opted for the $11.99 sushi lunch buffet. They also serve a small bite of cheesecake and brownie when they give you the bill. Regardless of whether its good or not, it at least shows initiative and effort! I did not try any of their sushi but for the friendly service and quantity and price, it is definitely worth a try. Also on a side note, I am not sure why the other yelpers are being so critical of Midori. It seems like some have unrealistic expectation for this whole in the wall kind of place. read more

I've been to Midori three or four times, and while the service has always been good, the sushi is mediocre. The one good thing about this place is their lunch buffet special for $11, but even that has a downside: the food, even when recently prepared, rarely tastes fresh. The only thing keeping me from giving Midori a one star is on account of the good service, and the nice decor and dining atmosphere. That being said, one would be better served driving a few miles north to Edohana Sushi, which is cheaper and better overall. read more

Salmon sushi pizza was crunchy,tasty and fab. Cold soba noodles with dipping sauce was cooked perfectly although the sauce was a little on the sweet side but still yummy. Hamachi kama (yellowtail collar bone)was juicy with the perfect mirin sauce to cut through the weight of the fish. You also get complimentary miso soup and a sushi roll appetizer which are actually top quality. A great basic place for an out-of-towner here for business, would defo return especially for the salmon sushi pizza read more

Came here around 1:30. They seemed more interested in leaving than serving. I grabbed some salad, had three plates of rolls (no sashimi)... In the end, all four plates, even the wrapper for the chopsticks hadn't been cleared. Oneof the rolls was hot?? ewe Nothing with any meat, except the imitation crab. The spicy tuna wan't spicy, and there was no tuna, I was here once before, but this is not the same place. This was probably the worst example of Sushi I've ever tasted. Midori has been here for as long as I can remember and they kill it every time I've been in. Their specials are always changing and unique. The staples stick around for a reason. The staff has always been incredibly nice and accommodating, especially with my friends who have never tried sushi before. If Cheers! was a sushi joint, this would be it. Everyone seems to know everyone when I've gone. People greet the chef and waiters were on a first name basis with two different sets of people. Aside from a more expensive sushi buffet, this is the best buffet sushi I've had. The price is is just right not to feel guilty to come in for just a quick lunch break. The sushi variations may not suite everyone, however they have the 3 things I love: spicy tuna, rainbow rolls with salmon, and spicy california rolls. Went to Midori for the lunch buffet after reading some decent reviews. While the food was not terrible, it was hardly sushi. Small selection, no nigori sushi (only small rolls with rice, seaweed, and a small piece of something inside), and the few (and I mean few) selections that had any raw fish (tuna, red snapper, both cheap) were always unavailable. I got maybe 2 ounces of fish in 3 trips, and that's being generous. Most of the rolls contained cooked chicken, krab, cream cheese, deep fried things and other cheap stuff. I lived on the dumplings and sticky rice. Hardly worth the $12.00 they charge. Had I know I would have driven to Tokyo One in Addison and spent $16.00 at lunch to get actual sushi. And dessert, they ran out and didn't replenish until we were walking out...never to return. Japanese food is supposed to be healthy. Deep fried and tempura'd everything are things I avoid. At Midori, if you avoid these you will starve. It was so bad I couldn't even complain. I really should have walked the line before ordering the buffet. I won't make that mistake again and have deleted this place from my GPS. read more

this is a usual spot for me. They are excellent for week night dinners. Its never crowded their wait staff is attentive. the place is kid friendly. When it comes to closing the tab it does take a bit of time, but not too long that would never make me come back. They always start with miso soup and a sample roll (usually the chefs special). The Red dragon roll is my personal fave. Quick service, everyone is down to earth, plus everything I've tried is genuinely GOOD. Ron Blue Balls clearly needs to get laid, because who complains about the carpet? Maybe lay off eating so many bento boxes Ronnie! Countertops? I came here for lunch in the middle of the afternoon, 11.99 lunch buffet.. seems a bit pricey but decided to check it out after hearing great things. Place was pretty meek, open setting.. The buffet was comprised of maybe 6 stations of sushi. Hardly enough to constitute an 11.99 lunch buffet. Sushi was mediocre at best. "Yay! I'm a fan" because for $14, you can get all the "sushi" you want and some hot tea. Not bad. Yes, the sushi is low grade. I mean, c'mon, you are at a buffet. This isn't Nobu. A nicer buffet (is that even possible?) is Tokyo One, but it is WAY up in Addison on Beltline, and it is $20+. Midoris does have a good range of raw, cooked, fried, and baked rolls. No sashimi that I recall, that would be too expensive for them, but lots of rolls because rice and cucumber are cheap. Midori is great for large group work lunches because they have lots of space and the servers work together to take care of large parties. If you are looking for a sushi buffet to put into your lunch rotation, this is a good bet. read more

Best fish in town for the best price. Also anyone trying to get healthier I ate dinner here every night for a year. I lost 45+ lbs my cholesterol and blood pressure both went down. I did this all while barely exercising and not breaking the bank by paying a ton for quality sushi.
