Sushi buffets. Always a bit iffy on going to a place with sushi buffets. How often are they making their rolls, how fresh is the fish. All things I consider. Well, we had just got back from a Women's expo and were starving from walking around and getting a bunch of swag! So we found this on our nifty yelp app and decided to give it a whirl. We were waiting in our for 12:00pm to hit, so we can go inside and start. At least we know we are getting the first round of fresh sushi since they had just opened. They start the line with wasabi, ginger and other sushi condiments. Then soups (which I did not care to try), dumplings, and some fried items. Then the sushi rolls, they have everything you can think of, salmon skin, shrimp tempura, rainbow roll, california roll, spicy california roll etc! I did pick a few sushi pieces. I really wanted sashimi but they did not have just sashimi there, they did, however, I took some of the sushi pieces and ate just the fish from it. It was ahi tuna and salmon. very good! Then they had what I thought were oysters. When I got back to the table and ate one, it was so delicious. I asked the waitress, and she told me they were green mussels. Man were they good! Well we ended up taking them all, so we asked if they were going to be able to make more. She said she would have them put some more in the oven. This is where I give them the 4 stars, they were thoughtful enough to bring us a plate of the green mussels to our table instead of just leaving it out on the buffet table. very considerate of them, and again those mussels were delicious. I think I could come back for them alone. Lastly, they had mini desserts, brownies and cream chess were delicious, they are bite sized so you can easily just have one each and end your meal pleasantly with some sweets. They also had mini red velvet cupcakes, which I did not care for! All in all, come here if you are craving some sushi, but not for the best sushi......and definitely try them green mussels gurrllll! read more

This place is amazing. I went in today for lunch and had salmon sashimi as well as the Red DRagon sushi roll. The food is delicious, the beer is ice cold, the staff are extremely attentive and friendly. The restaurant is quiet, calm, and cosy. I came to Midori while checking out places in my new neighborhood. I was not aware from the outside that I was walking into a sushi buffet, so I was a little surprised by that. After looking at the sushi buffet and comparing it to the menu, the 11.99 buffet seemed like the way to go. The food was good, not great, but well worth the price, especially for the area. Some buffet highlights: -The hot items, such as chicken teriyaki, egg rolls, dumplings, tempura, etc. were kept warm, however there was no refrigeration on the cold items, i.e. sushi and rolls. -The tempura was light and crispy as it should be. -The chicken teriyaki was very nicely preparedwith a nice taste of char grill and teriyaki sauce giving it a great flavor. -The fried rice was really good with lots of flavors coming through. -The sushi and rolls were not bad, but not great. Once again, I was a bit concerned not of it was refrigerated, so I watched for fresh stuff to come out and went and grabbed it! - Dessert consisted of orange slices and cheesecake bits. So I said to Joe Avezzano, while enjoying my NYE sushi buffet.... No, I didn't have the guts to go up and shake the man's hand but it was super cool to see him. I actually wouldn't have shaken his hand. I would have grabbed his shoulders and shaken him begging for him to help coach again. I'm not surprised to see Cowboys and ex-Cowboy's at Midori. It is in the hood. And there a photos on the walls of all the folks who have eaten there...most in blue and white jerseys. I'm also not surprised because the sushi is top notch. I've never been disappointed by quality, freshness, quantity and creativity. The service and value are equally awesome! You get more bang for your buck at their lunch buffet than you would anywhere else in town, mega buffets included. For NYE they pulled out all the stops. They referred to the dinner as being an International Sushi Buffet. It was. No, they didn't have the Australian spam sushi, but they had a wide variety of Pan-Asian offerings. I'm not even going to try to list it all...but be sure I ate it all. Still my favorite thing was when we used to eat lunch there. My gal-pal Q can put away more sushi than anyone I know. We used to hit the buffet towards the end. Before they cleared the buffet, as we were winding down. They would come to the table and offer the dish to Q before they took it away. This is the best sushi restaurant in Dallas: the fish is excellent, and the prices are SO reasonable. We now live ~45 minutes away, but it's worth the drive. We've only been for dinner, and we only order sushi (so I can't comment on the lunch buffet). Dinner comes with a complimentary bowl of miso soup and a sushi amuse bouche from the chef. As for the menu, these guys excel at the basics: sashimi/sushi/rolls of yellowtail, spicy yellowtail, salmon, tuna, unagi, and crawfish. For the most satisfying, best-bang-for-your-buck experience, I'd recommend focusing on these. We've tried most of the fancier rolls, too, and particularly enjoyed the Cactus and Viagra. Okay I was visiting Texas and wanted to see how the Sushi was far from home. First off let me tell you I tried some other place in Irving and that was terrible for a lot more than I paid at Midori so when I walked into Midori I was a bit hesitant so scanning the menu I ordered the Midori Special Combo not knowing how big it was and proceeded to order some Maguro, Uni, Hamachi (Yellowtail) and Tako Sushi okay the Maguro was okay but better than the other place I tried I guess it isn't as easy to get really fresh fish in Texas which I'm used to getting. I did think the Hamachi was really good the Uni was also not as fresh as I'm used to but was good too. When my Midori Special Combo came out that totally blew me away for the price though the plate was huge it must have been a 16" plate at least and all that Tempura and Teriyaki Chicken and Beef plus three fried gyoza for $18.99!! when I was ordering the sushi the Chef did warn me that the plate was big but I didn't believe him, I was wrong! and I have to admit this is the first time I've ever walked out of a Sushi or Izakaya place without being able to finish everything. If I ever visit Irving again I'm sure to be back it was almost like being back home. read more

My husband and I came here on a Saturday night, around 8:30. We were sat immediately and each given a generous bowl of Miso soup and a sample of the Number 3 house special sushi. I didn't try the sushi, but my husband LOVED it, and of course went ahead and ordered a roll. We also got a California roll, a shrimp tempura roll, and a crawfish tempura roll. With my husbands iced tea, we left BEYOND full and satisfied for $25! All four rolls were delicious, my favorite being the crawfish roll, it had great flavor, and my husbands being that Number 3 roll. Visited recently after not having been there in months. The place was busy. Sign in the entryway said "Please wait to be seated." So we waited. And waited. And waited. All servers and even the owner/manager made eye contact but then quickly looked away. I normally would never go to a sushi buffet but I was really craving it one day during my lunch break and foolishly decided to believe the multiple reviews here that said "oh I thought it would be bad based on the fact that it's a buffet but it was actually great!" -- NOT TRUE. The sushi was gas station quality, mostly containing rice and crab stick. The few rolls that contained actual fish didn't taste the freshest and only had the tiniest amounts of fish. I will note that at least they did have a fairly large selection of rolls, and the servers were friendly. However, based on the food, I would not recommend it. read more

Finally, we found a sushi place that's we can't close down! I swear it's hard AF to find good sushi in Irving without losing your shirt! This place is amazing...and there's history on the walls, so you know they've been there a little bit. And the rolls? They're yummy AF! And they're for the most part larger than what we're both use to. They all taste super fresh, because you see the chef behind the counter making them to order. Honestly, they kinda just melt in your mouth. And they bring you soup as well at no charge. It's a simple broth with a bit of spinach and tofu by the look of it, but it's a nice touch. And for North Irving/Las Colinas it very reasonably priced. We had the California, Spicy Shrimp and Lava Rolls on our first visit...all delicious! The second was a California, lava,e calamari and shrimp rolls. Calamari was delicious, just a bit small and the shrimp was a little bland..but some people like that!! You don't know till you try it. Went with a friend for lunch where they have a sushi buffet. The service was good and waitstaff were friendly. The sushi was gross. Looked like it had been sitting out for a long time. The rolls were very basic and were mostly soggy rice with little filling. There was a fresh salad on the buffet and it was fresh and tasted good with a tangy sesami dressing. We've been a fan of Midori for about 15 yrs. everyone is very nice and the sushi is always good. They have buffets at lunch and have daily specials if you want to try something different. I love sushi. I love Osaka. I'm usually very reluctant to try a sushi buffet other than Osaka because I'm afraid of being bitterly disappointed. Midori not only didn't disappoint me, it surprised and impressed me. Midori is a much smaller restaurant with a much smaller buffet than Osaka. They offer mostly rolls and most of their rolls are different versions of crab. But I was really surprised at how truly flavorful everything was. And the tempura sauce was wonderful! They do have a few fried items, a few non-seafood rolls (chicken? honestly, I didn't even try those) and the rainbow roll is about the only fish you'll see other than tuna. I was a little nervous when I realized that the plates on the buffet aren't sitting on ice but are just sitting on the counter. Then I realized why. The plates are small (the eating plates are tiny as well) and the place fills up for lunch, which means the rolls are turned over very quickly. That was another concern of mine, that the buffet would run out of items quickly due to so many customers going through line. That wasn't the case at all. The employees serving up the sushi were on the spot with refilling empty plates. My absolute favorite thing about Midori is the price. $11.99 for lunch. GTFO! I gorged myself on sushi for almost half what I would've paid at Osaka. This is the biggest reason Midori gets 4 stars from me. This is a no frills sushi buffet. I can't see it surpassing Osaka as my favorite, but it certainly runs a close second and is much more affordable. read more

I have been coming to Midori on and off for years, although I've never tried the buffet. At dinner, instead of a buffet, they offer half price sushi. The half price applies to most of the regular sushi (tuna, salmon, red snapper), but not the sashimi, rolls, or the "fancier" sushi such as yellowtail or fresh water eel. On my most recent visit, our party of seven dined on a Friday night. The service was extremely friendly. They had us write our names on each of the paper sushi menus so they could easily keep track of our orders and split the checks. This is always a big service plus, as it is often like pulling teeth to separate checks at some places. They brought out lots of little free extras with our meals: miso soup, edamame, sushi burrito, and orange slices for dessert. At first, I said "Oh, I didn't order this" and they looked at me like I was crazy and said "It is on the house." Yes, these were all FREE extras. My only service complaint is that they were slow to get a second round of drink orders. Most of us were drinking Kirin Ichiban, and probably would have had seconds, but they lagged in asking. I never understand why or how restaurants fail to bring a second round of alcoholic beverages. Hello! We are trying to give you more money. The two items I highly recommend at Midori are the volcano roll and the spicy tuna rolls. Unfortunately, neither fall into the half-price range, but are definitely worth the cash. The volcano roll is made up of little rolls (maybe California rolls?) baked in a creamy seafood sauce. It sounds gross, but is amazing, and not mayonnaise-y at all. The spicy tuna rolls are very spicy and probably the best spicy tuna rolls I've had. I also like the albacore sushi, which is lightly seared on the outside. Don't get me wrong, I love the raw stuff, but the searing on the outside of the albacore gives a little extra "oomph" to the flavor. Sure, there is better, fancier, sushi in the area (Teppo, Yutaka, Sushi Sake). However, I must say Midori is the best *value* for sushi in town, at least at dinner. read more

It's been in rotation for work lunch with friends over the past few years; it's not super-fancy but it is nice and yummy and reasonably priced, with enough non-sushi items to keep the non-believers from starving. Has a decent selection of rolls that are made in fairly small batches, because no one likes death sushi. Lots of basics like California, Philly, tuna, spicy tuna - although I swear those two are always marked backwards. Beware the eensy tiny tuna rolls at the end - they're always WAY hotter than the purported "spicy" tuna! A few choices on the more adventurous side, like the salmon skin roll (which I LOVE. Shut up, don't judge). And word up on the #2. No clue what it is, but it appears to have some kind of mayo/seafood spread on top (shit you not - totally like pimiento spread on a freakin' Ritz!) and then covered in cheese (!) and then BAKED. I KNOW, right? But it is some tasty shizz. Very inexpensive ($11ish), very friendly service, never a wait for a table even though they're always full for lunch and a cheerful bright interior. And as a bonus, dinner rolls are always 1/2 off... only been a few times for dinner, but it was good. Oh, and there's now a second location - 360 and Trinity!! Like you're going to the Marriot, but stop at that new little strip mall thingy. Totally fast, inexpensive way to silence the sushi craving! Like a nooner, only with wasabi. read more

Always clean and usually busy midori is a staple for workers in the area. I would definitely not hesitate to bring a friend here or suggest it.
