I'm totally addicted to this place! I'm not a big meat eater nor do I cook regularly. I really didn't think this is place for me until I went in. They not only have incredible fresh cuts of meats & fresh seafood but they have the best prepared meals. Chicken Parmesan is my favorite- so far. Lol. Everything is freshly made from scratch and packed up ready for your fridge or freezer. They have single portions & family size portions. Everything is excellent. They also have a vary nice wine selection, fresh seasonal veggies, & fresh breads. I tried the Mexican cornbread the other day and craved it ever since. Don't forget the Caesar salad/ dressing. So, if you love to eat great food and thinking about nice butcher cut, fresh seafood, or heating up the fruits of their labor- you can't go wrong. One other thing I noticed- groceries are really expensive and sometimes getting home to discover you only have ingredients makes it hard to budget. If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. What a fantastic Butcher Shoppe. Arguably the best Butcher Shoppe I have ever been to. Their service is incredible... some of the best customer service you will ever experience. Their selection of items seems endless. So much to choose from. We were in town for the poultry show and for the 2nd straight year, we got our steaks for the big casual dinner we host at our rental house. 16 prime ribeyes. We also got their broccoli with parmesan dish. The guy made a big tray of it as opposed to having a bunch of the small trays. Everything was fantastic! I wanted to go back Thursday to pick up a brisket but by the time we broke our booth down, it was after 9pm. Next time!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! read more

I was driving by and saw the sign. Very nice find! Great looking cuts of meat. Wide variety and selection of high quality looking meats. All prime cuts, great marbling in the meat, steaks look awesome. They also had A-5 wagyu! Bought a prime steak and some Italian sausage. Both where outstanding!!! Going back to try Wagyu next. I work in Atlanta twice a year. I am also on a Carnivore diet. I flew in Wed 5/30 from Los Angeles. I usually get my meat from Whole Foods here but I am very unsatisfied. I finally googled butchers while in route from the airport. I decided to try Midtown Butcher shoppe and it was everything I was looking for. The owner Greg was super nice and personally helped me. I purchased boneless ribeye, ground bison, salmon, chicken wings, eggs, cheese, olive oil lamb chops (lollipops) I waited to post review until I tried everything and I must say superb quality and taste! Everything was Fresh, Tender, Cooked easily. The taste was chef quality. Im so happy to have found this spot. There's an amazing variety of meats not listed that I haven't even tried yet. I want to start by saying the meat is great quality and I'm saddened that I won't be returning after today. This was my third visit and the first time I was assisted by the same gentleman whom seemed bothered to help me at all. The first 2 visits I was the only person in the shop whom needed assistance so I didn't understand what the issue was. I was excited to same the transition to a more reliable meat source vs Publix and Kroger. However this 3rd visit solidified that I'll be shopping elsewhere. I stood at the counter ignored and unassisted. A gentleman noticed from the very back that I wasn't being helped and came forward to help me. The same gentleman who was rude on my previous visits saw me and proceeded to ignore me. I began searching for another butcher while standing there and had another minute passed I would have left but it's holiday season and time is of the essence. It's a sham my experience has been what it is. I'm not fully saying it's because of my race however I personally believe that played a part. Not a great representation of the business considering it's "family owned & operated" however these things happen in life. Once again the quality of the meat is great but I don't enjoy being serviced as if I'm an issue. I'm a patient, polite, and paying customer and should be helped with a smile like everyone else I see being helped around me. I saw in other reviews that other people of color had similar issues being ignored as well. A friend recently gave my husband and I a gift card to the Midtown Butcher Shoppe and what a fabulous gift that was! The shop is right next to Piedmont Park on Monroe and has plenty of free parking (which is always a plus!) Another great perk is that this shop is dog friendly so you can bring your leashes pup in after visiting the park to grab dinner to go. The workers were welcoming and helpful. We took advantage of the meal deal which was an entree, salad and bread for two for $16.99. We chose the chicken lasagna and the tomato mozzarella salad. We also added a slice of key lime pie (in the picture below, the pie is sliced in half) and a bottle of wine. We thought the prices were very reasonable. The lasagna was easy to heat up at home, but on the website they mention if you call ahead, they can heat it up for you in the store. This butcher shop is awesome! I got the crab cakes, remoulade sauce, and spinach dip. Everything was absolutely fantastic and extremely flavorful! I will be a regular customer for sure. Service was excellent as well, they were very friendly and added a useful tip on how to get a good sear on the crab cakes (sauté in grape seed oil). I found what I was looking for quickly, and was in and out. The employees were wearing masks and gloves, and everything appeared very clean. I am a big advocate for shopping local and paying the extra premium for Midtown Butcher Shoppe. I would STRONGLY suggest getting a fresh turkey from them for Thanksgiving. I did a couple years ago and they brined it for me - one of the tastiest turkeys ever. Lots of great steaks and meat there. I appreciate the easy access to ground and stew veal, lamb, sausages, etc. which are largely in freezer but nice for a foodie to have. I find the pastas a little expensive but have definitely taken the manicotti home. Also - my Upstate NY peeps - they have Chiavetta's! Guys are polite and responsive every time I'm in there. read more

Can't say enough amazing things about this place. The steak quality is out of this world. I also love the prepackaged meals you can toss in the oven when you get home and have a delicious meal without all the prep work. They have marinated chicken and fish as well as many different cuts of steak. YUM! One item I found are the vacuum sealed meatballs. I think they come in a pack of 12.... they are amazing. They have cheese and seasoning in them I believe and when I don't feel like making my own from scratch these are perfect and yummy. The staff is amazing, same great faces over the years of stopping in and always willing to help. Parking is a little tight but I always find a space because the lot is enforced for patrons only. read more

Lost a bet with a buddy and owed him a steak dinner - we discussed what kind of steak he preferred and he chose the porterhouse (which is an amazing cut). Unhappy with the weak offerings at WholeFoods (they basically cut every last bit of fat off of their meat), I decided to drop in to New York Butcher Shoppe to see what they had to offer...and boy am I glad I did :-) Greg was super helpful and is a true craftsman - I knew I was in the right place when he seemed more excited about my order than I was (2 porterhouses, 2" thick, just under 5lbs total). He quickly grabbed a huge side of cow, still fresh in the bag, tossed it up on the counter and cut 2 of the biggest most beautiful looking steaks I'd ever seen. He cleaned them up, making sure to leave enough fat for optimal flavor. We discussed preparation options and his recommendations were directly inline with what I had researched on the web for steaks this size (low and slow until 90F - then a hot sear on all sides in the skillet). Turned out amazing - buddy and his girlfriend said it was the best steak they could remember. They also sell wine, beer (growlers), prepared sides, and FISH! The fish is outstanding but it sells out pretty quickly so you might need to call ahead. Greg said they are planning on expanding their fish options - which I think is an outstanding idea. read more

I have severe social anxiety so I word vomited an elaborate backstory in order to manage to speak one of the people working here which was unnecessary because he was very nice and helpful! He was knowledgable and found me a replacement cut for the cut that I needed for the meal I'm making tonight. They have a large variety and were friendly. What a pity. It pains me to write this review because the lamb merguez was quite delectable but the service was sub par so I will not be returning. I walked into the location and a gentleman was waiting for a sandwich to be prepared. My boyfriend and I perused the aisle to see the various cuts of meats. I went to pay and the guy ringing me up just finished preparing a sandwich without washing his hands. I handed him my card and ID. He took them from me and tossed them back at me on the counter. When my transaction was complete, he said, "Wellllllllll here you go." I'm sorry; I can go elsewhere for $10 packs of sausage and at least be THANKED for my purchase. I really want to like this place. A couple of years ago when I lived in Sandy Springs, the first one of these opened up on Roswell road. I frequented that location as a bastion of mom and pop breaking into a market in Atlanta that's mostly dominated by Whole Foods. I like the idea of Whole Foods, but it's turned into something overpriced, everything organic, and commercial -- but this isn't a review of Whole Foods, I digress. I swung by this location last night on my way home from work, definitely in the grilling mood. The inside is very clean and organized, and the layout is very similar to the Sandy Springs location I frequented: large meat counter front and center, a row of freezers/refridgerators on the side containing various pre-prepared dishes like pastas, salads, and side items, and a large wine display in the center of that with a few unique varieties. I purchased two choice (CAB) ribeyes at about 15.99 lb. I've never been much on the CAB bandwagon, but I can definitely taste the difference between prime and choice, and for me I can tell the cooking difference as well because I usually go with ribeyes and the marbling of the loin portion is different. After being rung up and paid, I noticed I was actually charged for two steaks instead of one. I consulted the guy who rang me up, and he quickly worked to correct the problem by offering me a voucher for the value I was overcharged. I would have appreciated the option, but I figured I'd be back, and more importantly, I'd figure I would want more steak soon so why not just get another one now. Took the steaks home -- and over two nights, they were solid. I've been into the "buttered steak" technique lately, which uses a cast iron skillet, butter, salt, and pepper over medium heat to form an insane crust on the steak -- so a very thick ribeye is key to the technique. These were a little thinner than I'm used to, so the steaks were just a bit more than medium when finished -- but part of that is my technique. The meat was quality. These are nice guys and I'll most likely return, but there was a kink in first impression and they were a bit pricier than my much despised Whole Foods (which I love to bash solely on price and organic) at around what I perceived to be similar quality, so I'll dock a couple of stars for that. If I could do 3 1/2 stars, that would be it. read more

You can find everything you need for a great dinner from the meat to the sides and the beer! The employees are great about offering suggestions on cooking and will season your cuts for you in the store. Some of there sausages are sourced and some are made in house. I had no idea that I could have such a good steak at home! I have always been disappointed whenever I would buy meat at the grocery store and cook at home. I was sure it was my cooking, but that has all changed. The staff at the New York Butcher Shoppe are so friendly. They explained what to look for when buying meat. They even seasoned the steaks I bought and gave me tips on how to cook them. It was the best home cooked steak I have ever had! The quality of the meat was incredible compared to what I was buying in the grocery store. I have been back a few times to buy steaks and bugers for special dinners and have not been disappointed. New York Butcher Shoppe is a great addition to the VaHi/Midtown neighborhood! The meat they grilled up at the grand opening was some of the best i have ever eaten. They only carry Angus beef, and there really is a big difference you can taste. Everything is prepared by hand in the store, even the italian sausage. The sides and prepared dishes are awesome. One thing I like is that not only can you get aged prime steaks and the perfect bottle of wine for a special occasion, but you can also get burgers and a $5 bottle of wine for a delicious and affordable meal. The ground chuck for the burgers also includes trimmings from all the other high-end steaks they cut, so the flavor is out of this world. One of the things I miss so much about my old home in Tampa was the little family-run meat market in my old neighborhood. New York Butcher Shoppe is a nice substitute. I was on a mission. I had been looking all over for bulk Italian sausage (it drives me crazy to try making a recipe that calls for browning sausage and having to snip and squeeze casings), but none of my normal grocery stores had what I needed. When I saw a Foursquare friend of mine had checked in here, I thought that a dedicated butcher shop might be just the ticket. The place was carnivore heaven. There were perfectly marbled steaks and roasts, stuffed chicken breasts ready for a hot oven, a world of homemade pastas and sauces. They had a selection of fish and gourmet sausages in the freezer case. I was particularly intrigued by the various chicken sausages they had to offer. My head was spinning with visions of future dinners. Not only did I find the sausage I needed, but the wonderful lady behind the counter assured me that they could get just about any meat or chicken I might want in exactly the amounts I needed; all I needed to do was give them a call. Who gives this kind of service anymore? They do! And the sausage was delicious - fresh and meaty with a sort of smoky flavor underlying the spice. It cooked up crisp and wasn't at all greasy. Obviously,​ the reason to go to your local butcher shop is that​ the meat they sell is outstanding. This place, seriously... wow... many amazing cuts at a variety of good prices. For people who prefer fish, their scallops are to die for, and the crab cakes are a marvel. But this is not the only reason to shop there. They make meals. From pasta to casseroles, vegs to reheat and beer to drink (or wine if you prefer). They have a lot of sides and options for people who want to eat well but don't have the time. And then there's the staff who are so awesome. Everyone is always happy to see us, friendly and helpful if you have questions. Over time I feel I've built up a relationship with the staff, and that reinforces my commitment to going to the shop.
