No one answers the phone in a timely manner and you'll be left hitting "1" for new patient every couple of minutes in the hopes to get through to someone. Their lack of answering the phone actually did me a favor based on the reviews I've seen. There's so many dentists in the area there's no need to waste your time hoping that someone will answer the phone. I ended up contacting Swish (Montrose) and my call was not only answered swiftly but also in a very cheerful, friendly, and professional manner. I HATE going to the dentist and get really bad anxiety about it but instantly felt at ease speaking to Swish! I'm now happily looking forward to my dentist appointment at Swish. My insurance switched networks so I decided to give Midtown a try. Spent two slow hours there. New patients fill out six (6) pages of consent forma and intrusive information wanting everything from your SS number to menstrual cycle. I said up front I just wanted a cleaning but when I finally saw the doc he refused to agree, said he would only do a surgical deep cleaning. He would get $400 from me, plus insurance, I would get two sessions of blood and pain. Are you kidding me? I am near 80 years old, got all my teeth and just want them painlessly shined up once a year, like always. Respecting what the patient wants did not matter to these guys. If you want to feel like an ATM machine this is the place. read more

What makes this a one star and what should be a zero star is the overcharging me of uncovered items and deceiving me on what is an upgrade and what is covered. 've been coming to Midtown Dentistry for the last couple of years and have never had any issues. Loan, the dentil hygienist is amazing. She is so kind and knows exactly what she is doing. However, I came in for my routine cleaning and was scheduled to be with Loan. For some reason they ended up putting me with a new hygienist/hygienist in training. She was nice, but she definitely didn't do as good of as a job as Loan. When leaving, the front desk told me how much I owed for the visit which was over $100. I've never had to pay anything when coming in for cleanings before. I asked for a print out of the payment summary and the staff couldn't even print it out for me. He said it was for the oral cancer screening and routine cleaning. If you know that insurance isn't going to cover it, wouldn't you think to tell the patient beforehand before proceeding with the appointment? The front desk staff and the billing lady that was at the front desk were extremely rude throughout the whole encounter. I work in healthcare myself and understand billing and how health care works but I would never speak to a patient like they did. I will not be returning. read more

I had an extremely frustrating experience this morning. My appointment for a cleaning was booked months ago. I got at least four text message reminders including this morning. I also got multiple emails and a phone call friday which I couldn't answer because I was in a meeting.But I thought it was just another reminder. And I got here this morning.She said, I had to cancel your appointment. I showed her the text messages and she said, well, I tried to call you friday. No apology just excuses. Why couldn't she text that the appointment was canceled. I also had a frustrating experience with another dentist here earlier this year, when he put on a crown. It was a nightmare. Dr. Penchas is the best dentist I've ever had? But and i've been coming here for decades, but I rarely see him anymore. Because of all this, i'm going to have to find another dentist. ​ read more

Please avoid this place! I was new to Houston and found this location close to where I lived. I was told I needed a deep cleaning and other procedures - I've never been told that I needed a deep cleaning before as my teeth are extremely taken care of, but the dentist insisted so I believed her. She made me feel like every other dentist didn't have the knowledge that she did and that I was in the best hands. I went and got it done, and from there I experienced multiple issues with this location. Of course additional charges and services kept popping up - but I paid for them all and left the office with a zero balance. Now a YEAR later, I've been receiving multiple bills from this office. I've spoken and emailed with different people and the end result was that I DID in fact have a zero balance, but surprise surprise more bills keep coming in! My experience here is that they are manipulative, dishonest, and abuse their power as medical professionals to take money from clients. They also have a terrible culture in office. I had many techs ask repeatedly for positive reviews and to use their name. They stated that they had to do this in order to not get in trouble. One time I even witnessed the doctor scold a staff member with a smile on her face. My guess is that they are trying to afford the rent in a nicer area of Houston, and do so unethically. read more

As a person that has always hated going to the dentist, I don't mind pulling up to this Midtown - Westheimer office. From the time you step in Juan and the other receptionist are there to greet you by name and are very welcoming. Dental assistants Stephen and Leslie are excellent at building rapport, take their time to ask you questions, and making sure you're comfortable. I recommend asking for hygienist, Loan Pham, if you're going in for a routine cleaning as she is really gentle and accommodating, making sure you understand everything she doing. Dr. Jun Li is the absolute best for any dental work that you need. He's has a gentle touch as well and is very informative when explaining what's causing the issue and what the next steps are in the treatment plan. 10/10 recommend this location. read more

Not impressed. Chairs are uncomfortable, staff is rude. They charged me $40 cancellation fee for needing to change an appointment for an emergency. I've been a good customer for 5 years and they didn't care and cited "policy". I told them they are going to lose me as a patient, they didn't care one iota. I came in the office and the front desk staff was incredibly nice. I went to the exam room where I had an oral exam I was asked but was not told that the oral cancer screening had a charge. I didn't find out until I went to the front and was told I owed $25 I didn't pay because I knew my insurance was supposed to cover everything. They scheduled an appointment to come in for teeth cleaning close to the appointment they sent a reminder text I canceled the appointment then. I kept receiving calls asking if I still want to come in for the appointment. I told them I canceled, days later I kept getting invoices for $100 because of the cancer screening and also the "canceled" appointment which I was never supposed to have in the first place. This office is a rip off they act as if you're in good hands but it's only to get your business otherwise if they don't get your business they will find a way to charge you for something I called and spoke with a gentleman recently and let him know the situation which they ignored and continued to send me bills meanwhile my records from the exams that I requested I never received. They also tried to convince me to pull all of my wisdom teeth which are in perfect condition (because I asked what the numbers meant) and to also get crowns and other types of things that I don't need they will try to convince you with warm smiles and gestures to get work that is not necessary and run the bill up thousands of dollars. read more

I recently had a crown put in at this location and was extremely satisfied with how Dr. Patel and her dental assistant Kristen treated me during my visit. Kristen was very informative about the process of the procedure and Dr. Patel made sure I felt comfortable during the process. I forgot her name but the dental assistant that helped put my temporary crown was also phenomenal. She knew I was terrified about being there but she made me feel really safe and comfortable. The only reason I'm leaving 4 instead of 5 stars was because I did feel like I was being up-charged. I compared the prices of the procedure with the prices of my current client since I work in the healthcare field and have access to that info. The costs were a few hundreds dollars more than what is typically charged but I continued with the crown because I based it out of the location (being in Midtown). The part that bothered me was that I couldn't pay in payments. At least where I did my root canal they were able to take half the day of the procedure and the other half in 2 weeks. I was also lied to about the price of the procedure... the day I went in to get it done it was $200 more. Not only that but I had asked for laughing gas since I was terrified and they didn't have any. Due to not wanting to reschedule because of work I proceeded with the procedure. After reading the other reviews with similar billing stories....I'd feel more comfortable finding another dental location. But please do not disregard my initial statement because I still think Dr. Patel and Kristen are awesome! If you decide to come here make an appointment with them!!! read more

AVOID THIS PLACE. I was new to town and looking for a new local business and found this place. Making an appointment was easy enough and they were accommodating to my schedule. The greeter and hygienist were friendly but it went downhill from there. Upon my first visit, I was told I needed extensive dental cleaning that would require localized anesthetics. I was confused because I have never in my life required any dental work. I pushed back because I didn't believe this was necessary: I was not experiencing pain or discomfort. The dentist came in and told me that I had bone loss and needed this procedure. Believing him, I agreed to the procedure. The procedure itself was painful and required two visits to complete. Wouldn't you know my insurance company refused to pay, citing the fact that my x rays showed no signs of bone loss. So they mislead me on the first visit, telling me I had an issue no other dentist had raised before, just to get more money out of me. And now I have to pay several hundred dollars out of pocket. I certainly will be finding a new dentist! read more

My appointments are always on time and everyone is there to help me have better dental hygiene. I have never been criticized nor reprimanded for what I should not have done. If you leave Penchas a not so good review ",Wanda" would not send my new Prostodonist my "Dental Records"I needed the cheap.looking snap on denture on my upper and replace my hybrid on my lower.Since I have a new mouthful of overdendure and my lower hybrid.my new prostodonist had made for me I then realized Pencha only gave me the front part of my lower hybrid teeth.He didn't give me any back teeth.I just assumed no back teeth was normal since I.had never had implants.Now I can chew my food better with my new lower hybrid with back teeth.Stay away from this practice.Apart from the $$$$$ paid to Penchas we had to pay another $45 000 to a new Prostodonist to replace the dental work from Penchas.I now have a night guard from..my new Prostodonist that I never knewvI needed.This stop wearing down the teeth.Penchas didnt.tell.me I.need a night guard,Acrylic teeth wear down .I am furious we trusted this dental practice.They promise you to have a. beautiful smile and I.have worn an upper denture and a partial denture since I was 24 yrs old.and was looking forward to have a beautiful smile.What a huge let down. and thousand of dollars spent on cheap un natural looking teeth.Now I have a beautiful.natural smile I should have my first journey of dental implants and I now have back molars that Penchas should have given me on my on my lower hybrid. read more

This review concerns the Montrose location. The quality of work that they do doesn't last even two years. I had a filling done in 2016 and it recently fell out. I contacted them about it and they wanted to charge me additional fees to correct their subpar work. I can also confirm that their scheduling isn't consistent nor considerate. They advertise that they're open once a month on the weekends but that's not always the case. They called to cancel on me the Friday before my appointment multiple times. I wouldn't recommend them based on quality of work and scheduling. read more

New, better dentist told me they left a Gap under crown so had to go back pay another 2200$. The main senior dentist said he'd take care of me. Love the people there and the cleaning is great; however the front desk is a pain. When using my FSA card they have always been shown to overbill. Upon reviewing insurance charges and letting them know what my insurance covers ahead of time, I was still billed $25 for fluoride despite my insurance covering cleaning and fluoride twice a year at 100%. I called to be reimbursed while the charge was still pending but it just went through today so I'm leaving this review here. Great place for cleaning if you don't mind the hassle of dealing with insurance and trying to get reimbursed for being overcharged. read more

Recently moved to Houston and was searching for a good dentist. Searched United Concordia's website and midtown dentistry popped up, and was close to both my work & home. Yelp reviews were not bad. My first visit was great, Dr. Dupree & hygienist Loa ( I believe). They did a great job welcoming me and listening to my preferences & concerns. Very professional and accommodating. I had much needed deep cleaning done. Second visit was good, Dupree reviewed X-rays provided by my previous dentist. I was advised I had a cracked crown and suspect a cavity under another crown according to a 2 year old X-ray. The recommended treatment is replace both crowns. I also needed a filling. So within 2 visits we had a plan. I do recommend Dr. Dupree, she is a good dentist, the hygienist Loa was good too. However, several opportunities for improvement:- 1-Midtown dentistry office called me 3 times & I got a text message to remind me of my last appointment, little overkill eh? 2-Discussion about insurance coverage & what's owed happened after I got a filling & was charged extra without my prior consent. It's was $60 extra for white vs black filling which I would have chose anyways, but leave that for me to decide. 3- Lastly, please don't speak @ 100 WPM during my visit, makes me think you are rushing to your next patient & think lightly of my care. My appointment started 35 minutes LATE - they claimed it was because the insurance info took time to collect. But the day before someone called and took my insurance info - the front desk person then claimed that no one called me which was shocking because that would mean someone tried to scam me of my dental insurance info. Then they tried to still push 20 minute x rays on me and also tried to claim there was a scheduling error even though my appt has been on the calendar for 2 months. Finally someone cleaned my teeth they did a good job but the hassle is not worth it. read more

Watch out: Over charging I liked their service, the owners are great people and had long term relationship with them. Until I found out that office staffs kept charging me more than what was agreed upon. When i pointed out line by line in DETAIL that everything was paid, they still charged me more, I paid and requested for the refund. The customer care as well as billing team keeps quite since they know they made a mistake. I like to work with good people and dont like such shady practices of charging more even after I pointed out and stopped going there till it gets resolved. I would recommend to review their statement and especially compare with what insurance paid them and most importantly the deductible part (deductible is part of your bill but they charge that as additional. Example if your bill is $200 and deductible is $50 they charge $250 instead of $200 within which you have already met the deductible of $50). read more

Went in with no pain. Was told I needed a crown and multiple fillings. The crown took multiple visits to get it "right". Throughout the whole process I was in so much pain, I could not eat on the right side of my mouth. I had specifically requested Dr. Penchas thinking he was more experienced than the random dentist straight out of school they try to hand you off to. I have since seen a different dentist who showed me that my crown is pressing directly on the nerve and I will now need a root canal. She also had to fix a filling that was done by Dr. Penchas because he had left a gap under the filling, leaving me with the worst pain of my life. DO NOT GO HERE. Spa-like setting and atmosphere. Friendly hygienist. However, after my cleaning, finance came to me to charge me for two fillings before I'd send the dentist. Once the dentist examined me, she determined my teeth were fine and needed no additional work. Upon checkout, they attempted to charge me for flouride cleaning after the hygienist had confirmed it was covered. Turns out he read the insurance incorrectly. They then told me I needed a night guard and that insurance would cover it. After the fitting, on Christmas Eve, they attempted to charge me $300 dollars, as the guard was not covered. Once I said I would not pay that amount, they asked me to verbally confirm that I'd pay $148 for the night guard. I refused the guard and will not be returning. read more

i can only state that the first time I went to this dentist I got extremely good service. However the second time I saw this dentist and staff, I could hardly get them to help me with the new dentures I paid them over $7,000. I was having problems with the lower dentures. I went in the first time and was met with the reaction of just what are you doing back here? And I can only put you down for certain day etc. I have called this office many times and get the same response which is no response. I cannot recommend this dentist nor his staff to anyone because they cannot take care of the patients they already have. read more

Their scheduling team is a mess, and absolut mess!! They canceled my oppointment 3 times in a row! The fist time I made an appointment a month in advance, so I could get the time/day I wanted. However, the day before I was due to come in they called to cancel due to a "scheduling issue". They were very nice, and I understand these things happen, so no problem, I rescheduled the appointment for two monts later. Second time. About a month into waiting for my new appointment my wisdom teeth really started to bother me, so I called to ask if they could see me any sooner. They were able to reschedule me for the very next day (or so they told me). So I took a vacation day from work to go to this appointment, only to get there (2pm on a Thursday) and find they were closed! I called their offices (scheduling team) to see what was going on, and they told me that they showed I had cancelled the appointment (which I did not), and that the canceled appointment was at 5:30pm (which is rediculous because they don't ever take first appointments that late, and that time was never even offered to me). Anyhow, seeing that I was pretty upset she decided to transfer me to the manager of their tunnel location, she was able to reschedule me (to their tunnel downtown location) for that Saturday at 11:15. Third time. Saturday rolls around and I decide to call to confirm my appointment before I leave to look for their office.... NOTHING. I go to check their website, and as I suspected they don't even open on Saturdays! Needless to say, I will not be trying to reschedule a 4th time. At this point I have waisted over two months trying to get an appointment with these people. I really hope that next time they just tell people they are not taking new patients if they are too busy, instead of waisting people's time. read more

So, who actually likes going to the dentist? NOT A SOUL. Either you're concerned with paying an arm a leg and maybe your first born child or you're afraid of being in torturous pain. I'm happy to say I've experience none of this, and they're so freaking nice! to put a cherry on the cupcake. (probably wouldn't have any cavities if i actually stepped away from those) So, Anna was my hygienist and she's just the most graciously sweet person, but that's not the key to it all. She did an amazing job with my cleaning, I felt nothing (YAY, for numbing agents), my teeth came out nice and clean like i just bought a new pair of veneers! No gunky taste and I got the extra fluoride treatment for only 25 bucks! Did I mention how squeaky clean my teeth were when i left she's so thorough to the point she whipped out those hand tools quickly so she could reach every nick and cranny. I couldn't be more pleased!!! The final step, the results of my lack or upkeep of my brushing. I went to a previous dentist and he stated I had 12 cavities, which made zero sense to me because I have been going to the dentist regularly. Also, that dentist told me I needed a crown :-( not only is that a lot of time I truly do not want to dedicate to the dentist that's expensive! BUT behold Dr. Khan has come to the rescue to assure me that no crown was needed and i only needed 3 fillings. My pockets are relieved! His manner and conversation were great and I didn't feel as if a sales man was trying to sell me everything imagined. He was honest and took his time in explaining the future treatment plan. I fibbed. This is the final step the payment. Ms. Denise whom is also amazing, exclaimed she needed more time in getting the precision of what all is required with my assurance. Instead of selling me a dream. She chose to keep me in the loop and be honest with needing additional time to make sure she gives me the correct information. I truly appreciated this. All in All. They're really awesome. Start to Finish. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the near future. read more

We moved to Houston not long ago and we were recommended by my husband's boss to see his dentist at Midtown Dentistry. My husband, who works in Downtown, went to the office in the Tunnels and I chose the office on the Westheimer. I couldn't wish for a better experience. The practice is very well organized and welcoming, and my appointment was on time. The gal who works on the front desk was very helpful and friendly (unfortunately I didn't catch her name). Ana, my hygienist, a sweet and professional girl was caring, personal and attentive to the service she was providing. She took her time to explain everything about the home care and everything else that I must had to have done as my first visit in the office. I was very comfortable! Dr. Penchas was amazing! He is extremely friendly, I felt like we were old friends. I must say that I didn't have any major procedure done because my teeth are in very good conditions, but the impression I got as my first visit was exactly what I was looking for: professionalism, caring and punctuality. I plan to make them my regular hygienist/dentist as long as I live in Houston. BTW, my husband is very happy with his dentist in the office in the Tunnels as well! read more

****Update: After my review was seen by the office manager at the main location, I was immediately contacted to make an appointment to come in and see what the issue was with my crown. I was seen by Dr. Penchas at the Westheimer location. The takeaway: you need invisalign, a mouthguard, new crowns, the list goes on. Thousands on thousands of dollars. I was told by Dr. Penchas (their "expert" doctor) that I was hitting my crown with my bottom teeth which was the reason for my current issues. To demonstrate, he repeatedly had me move my jaw in a way that was so unnatural he kept saying "move your teeth this way, move your jaw forward more, move your bottom teeth more, more more more" - Having had dental issues for 13 years now, I'm highly aware of how I take care of my teeth and whether or not they're consistently hitting each other in a painful and unnatural way and I have NEVER moved and/or hit my teeth like this, let alone over and over for years on end. So essentially, taking the blame off of his joke of a staff. The quote was all around a huge rip off, nothing added up, the explanations were, quite frankly, complete bullshit, and I decided to go with another doctor upon viewing other credentials and reviews. Upon leaving my visit with Dr. Penchas, he told me that stabilizing the crown was not necessary. I just needed a new crown, the root canal was fine, and that I could EASILY make it a couple more weeks as is. I'm at work yesterday as a critical care travel nurse in another city and the crown, attached to my tooth, falls out. Thank God I'm required to wear a mask at work, but not the point. I NO LONGER HAD A FRONT TOOTH. My actual tooth under the malfunctioning crown is gone and badly diseased, the complete opposite of what Dr. Penchas told me. I'm now facing the possibility of a whole list of complications that I'm terrified about. This entire group of people are complete liars that are not only incapable of performing complicated dentistry, but are very aware of that while knowingly screwing a young 27 year old and I'm sure many others out of tens of thousands of dollars. My other dentists were appalled upon hearing how this has gone down for the last several years, and I FINALLY feel like I'm in good hands after consistently being lied to and swindled for years on end at Midtown "Dentistry." AVOID AVOID AVOID. I have never been so disgusted by a business or service in my entire life. It is extremely surprising to me that this office has as many positive reviews as they do. To start from the beginning, I was first seen at this office in 2017. They were extremely accommodating, as I had a crown placed in my front tooth by another office that was BROWN compared to the rest of my teeth. Quite the traumatic experience, and I was frantically calling every dentist office that I could in the Houston area to try to get this issue resolved ASAP. Midtown dentistry (Wirt & I-10 location) got me in the same day, and I was so thankful when they placed a temporary crown that matched the overall color of the rest of my teeth. After the permanent crown was placed, I was happy with the overall look of the crown and was told that this would be a long term solution. After paying $600 dollars, the crown started to turn grey 1.5 years later. (Crowns are supposed to last for years on end.) I came back into this office, trusting that the information that they were giving me (that a porcelain crown would never turn grey and if I had a porcelain crown placed by them it would last me years) was accurate. In an attempt to get the perfect match, both of my front teeth had crowns placed. My temporary front crowns, again, ended up looking extremely brown/yellow compared to the rest of my teeth. I ended up being in the dentist's chair for about four hours, and after that long amount of time and multiple shots to keep me numb, Dr. Tran informed me that he couldn't do anything about it, I would have to have extremely off-colored crowns for roughly 3-4 weeks and to "just hang in there" before quickly leaving the exam room. I was also two hours late to work due to this incompetence and went to work to as a critical care nurse with a completely numb mouth. As a fellow healthcare worker, this lack of accountability and unprofessionalism is completely unacceptable. I left the office in tears, and Cynthia was so nice as to overnight the correct colored temporary crowns for me. Several weeks later, the permanent crowns were placed. They looked pretty good at the time. This was in May 2019.
