Good food, disappointing service attitude. Driving through Alabama and decided to check Yelp for good pizza in Montgomery. We are a family of 4 with two small kids and they love pizza. Midtown had great reviews so we decided to check it out. Great decor, music, and the beer options pleased my husband. Kids loved the cheese pizza and my hubby and I LOVED the focaccia bread with olive tamponade. Only issue is the attitude of server, whom I assume based on how he was dressed was "the boss" but I could be wrong. It was heavily felt upon arrival that he was not in the mood for customers. He never once smiled. He had an air of impatience about him that made us feel like we were imposing on his day. I was almost reluctant to ask for a refill. Service is more than just being prompt and doing the job, it's about making the customer feel welcomed. We did not feel welcome at all. Props to the food, but the guy who served us on July 27 at around 3pm.....if the job is that bad, look for something else. read more

I love little local pizza places and as we were heading home from our trip to Birmingham I searched for a well rated non-chain place on the way. I don't know what the other reviewers saw in this place - maybe I just had an off night? It was 7pm or so on a Sunday night and it was pretty full, only one or two tables open. Unfortunately we were seated by two large tables - one full of yappy kids about 5-10 years old and the other by their parents (smart of them to segregate because man those kids were annoying). It felt like we were forgotten in our corner thanks to these large tables, so service was very poor. I think my biggest problem was that I couldn't flag down a waiter because they had nothing that resembled a uniform. In the hour and a half we had to spend there for our meal I finally figured out which guys were waiting and bussing tables - and there was no consistency in their attire. Some had collared polos of various colors, some had shorts, some had slacks, some had button downs, some had t-shirts. Needless to say, I never got to ask our waiter for refills or issue a complaint on my dish because I could barely tell who was who in the fray. I ordered the pasta special of the night - pasta with a white wine sauce with clams. My friend ordered a pizza. It took an absurd amount of time to get his pizza, and then another 5 minutes before my dish came. I got a pile of pasta with a scant amount of sauce and six tiny clams, served with a side of cold italian bread overly saturated in olive oil, spices, and doused in coarse sea salt. This cost me 16 dollars. I wanted to ask for a side of marinara to give the dish some flavor, but could never catch our waiter until he finally came to ask if we wanted dessert. I asked for a side of marinara, a box for the rest of the pizza, and the check. He came back with everything, but the side of sauce was a cold plastic cup of overly sweet tomato sauce. I finally just ate the clams after having picked at the pasta slowly while I waited for sauce. When he came back to pick up the check I informed him of the cold sauce and he looked confused and asked if I wanted it heated - I just said forget it and we paid and left. I can't even say it was that he was mistaken in thinking we wanted the sauce to go with the pizza, because he gave it to us without a lid and not suitable for taking out. Over priced, bad service, mediocre food - I would never suggest this place to anyone. read more

With a name like Midtown Pizza Kitchen I expected it to be a pizza "joint" which it was not. The salad was plentiful and fresh. The pizza crust was of the thinner type and and the toppings were not your standard toppings. The staff was proficient but not friendly. Hubby did not like it the pizza but I did. My husband and I have eaten here a few times before, and it is usually good. Today was an exception. We ordered the Tuesday special, 2 medium specialty pizzas for $22, for pick-up. My favorite pizza place in the Gump. This is the original location, and there is now a second up in Prattville. Not your average pizza, most house specialities have some unique sauces and toppings. I also like that they have some other options besides pizza (pasta, salads, sandwiches, etc). I will admit, their beer selections on draft have been less than exciting lately. I think they should keep something simple on draft line a Blue Moon or a Shock Top for those less adventurous beer drinkers (AKA: my mother when she comes to visit). read more

The place was semi-busy and may explain why I was seated by one person, drink order by another and food order by another. A gentleman who appeared to be the manager/owner walked around scolding the staff in front of customers and had a scowl on his face the entire time I visited. I waited 40 minutes for my Classica pizza. The pizza was slightly overdone (burnt around the edges) but tasty. Let me start out with the food and servers are always great. My daughter loves to eat here, and almost everytime we're in town, we come here. This last time wasn't great but only due to seating. Seating is first come, first served, and that's fine. We get there, and two parties of 2 are ahead of our party of 3. We were told a 10-15 minute wait -- great for a Friday night. Both of them are seated at a table for 4 within that time frame. I notice a table for 5 is open, of which on previous visits, our party of 3 has been seated at. We wait, and wait (we're the only party waiting), then a mother and 2 kids come in. They decide to sit at the bar. We wait some more - then another party of 3 comes in, and we all wait some more. I'd say after waiting a little over 30 minutes, a table for 4 opens up and we are finally seated. The poor party behind has to wait until another 4 seat table opens up. I'd say we were there for about ah hour when a party of 4 comes in, and they seat them at the big table. We could have ordered, eaten, and been gone by then. Just didn't make sense. I can understand not seating a party of 2 there, but really? Kind of soured the visit. But the beer, pizza, salad, and server were great. read more

Food is good! Bartender tonight was a little off point tho. This is my first review ever. I bartended for 9 years and understand it's stressful sometimes. Last week I ordered food to go. Got a pizza and the anti pasta board. Anti pasta board comes with meats and bread. Got home, no meats only bread. Restaurant called me, apologized and told me they would give me a discount next time. Tonight, go there after work to cash in on my discount. Bartender gave me 5$ off then asked me to yell my credit card number across the bar because the magnet strip didn't work and he didn't want to try and read the numbers. Anti pasta board is 14$ which I didn't enjoy any of because it was just bread and olives. Feel a little ripped off and probably won't go back. A wonderful neighborhood pizza place with great options! We eat here probably once a month or so. It's located behind a strip mall, so if you're out of town, don't feel like you took a wrong turn haha! The food orders can be slow at times, particularly when there's a large crowd in for dinner, but we've always had great wait staff. The pizza was stupendous. I got the 5 meat, and it was the best pizza I've probably ever had. It was dripping with grease, as all good pizza should be. The service was absolutely awesome, they really seemed to care and want you to be happy with your meal. My brother, he's 7, loves the pac man machine that they have, we practically had to pry him off it to eat. After locating - was seated - spoke with the server regarding recommendations - 16 craft beers on tap ; pasta of the week were the ingredients from one of their pizza's - 5 stars for this dish. Passable thin crust pizza. Toppings were few and far between. Mushrooms were chopped so small I couldn't see them. Same with other toppings except for a couple of larger pieces of ham. For Montgomery it was okay. Friendly service. Zero atmosphere. Zero ambiance. Paper table cover, silverware in paper and paper towels on the table: kinda tacky. A small pizza is $9, should be about $5. It's hidden in the back of shopping center. Looked closed. Interior has seen better days. read more
