Posted: 12/31/2020 Contacted them through the phone number on Facebook market as they had alarms and remote starters for install. Didn't get a call back so I decided to drive down there and walk in. As I entered they were rude and asked what I wanted. I told them I'm trying to get a remote starter installed and they replied they were busy and to check back later in the week. I didn't even stand in the shop for 3 mins. I tried calling/texting 3 days later... no response, no call back or a message in return. So I don't know if they ever got my calls or text but I did send them a Facebook message and they definitely got my messages as they left me on scene on all 5 of my messages on a 4 day period. After a week of trying I gave up. Sketchy shop to do business with. This the type of shop to screw you over, ignore and say it's your problem now. I wouldn't recommend. read more

Had a 2-way remote starter install over 5 years ago, it has been trouble free. On another car I recently bought used, I was having trouble starting it. I brought it in to Midwest Auto Customs to remove the remote started that came with the car, as I suspected that was causing my problems. They took it out, troubled shot the ignition wiring and found a bad wire. Fixed it and I'm back on the road. Starts great now. read more

I highly recommend this shop without any reservations. I had my remote starter installed there. For whatever reason,the remote starter quit working. I brought my car to the shop and the starter was replaced with a new one without being asked even one question. When I offered to pay for the replacement,the owner declined any payment saying that he guarantees his work just as they tell you when they install the starter the first time. I had my remote installed at Midwest and it was a beautiful experience. I will and have recommended this company to all my friends and family. They are very professional and had my started installed within the time quoted. I am very happy with the starter now that I can warmup my car before getting in it on these cold Minnesota winter days. I will also be great to be able to have a cool car to get into in the summer. Don't hesitate to purchase a Groupon. It is a really good deal. I would think twice before buying a Groupon from this place. My wife bought me their Groupon for a remote start kit for my car as a Christmas present. Before she gave it to me, she called them to schedule my car for the installation in mid-December. Once she told them we had the Groupon, their tone seemed to change and they told her they were all booked up until the end of January. However they told her that we could drop the car off on a random day and if we were willing to just leave the car with them until closing time, they would get to it at some point throughout the day. So we called them last week (I had to go out of town on business) to take them up on their offer of leaving the car with them and picking it up at closing time, but instead they told her that now they are booked up until the end of February. Also though the Groupon's fine print does advertise that there is a fee of $110 for additional parts if your car is newer than a 2006, they told my wife that the converter for my car (a 2011 Dodge Challenger) actually costs $130, not $110. We got a refund from Groupon since we could not get what we paid for, under the terms we agreed to when we made the purchase. All in all, this place is a waste of time. Buyer beware. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I used to have remote start and I really missed it when I got a new car. They are kind of expensive so I checked on GROUPON and found Midwest Auto Customs. I had never used GROUPON before so I called Midwest Auto and the lady that answered told me how to do it correctly. Then she warned me I would have an additional charge due to already having keyless entry. I set up an appointment, arrived and waited. Waiting room isn't fancy but it was warm and installation didn't take that long. Price was exactly as stated, starter works great. Terrible customer service. I bought a remote starter through Living Social and called to redeem it. The soonest appointment they had available was more than two months away. I asked why that was and was quite rudely talked down to. I was also told there would be a more than $100 fee because my car is a key-start (as in it starts with a key like 90% of all cars). I looked all over the deal and saw nothing about this anywhere in the fine print but was told that I was wrong and rudely told why I was wrong. No chance would I ever recommend this place. Remote starter was improperly installed in my car, and it killed the battery, and damaged the electrical system. I spent $346 to repair what this place broke. So between the upcharge for the remote starter and the repairs, I spent over $500. Definitely not worth it! read more

This was one of the slimiest customer experiences I've ever had. Upon calling to claim the groupon (priced at $145), I was informed that the car I wanted to get the auto-start installed on (a 2008 Scion), had "electronic security locks" and so would need an "added fee of $109". The representative didn't just said, "Yeah, that's the fee." I then told them that I would be writing reviews about this experience and she responded, "Go ahead." Sighing, I said, "Ok, fine... I'll pay over the phone now by credit card." To which she replied, "No, we don't do that." "You don't do credit cards?" "Not over the phone. *mumbles something in the background*, no, not over the phone." I told them that this was unacceptable since I was out of town and the gift was for my girlfriend, and said after that, "Ok, I'll find a way to pay in person." After three minutes they called back and said, "We will not do service on your car, you can have Groupon refund you." And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a terrible customer service experience. read more

Cost for the Bypass module was double the costs of the Groupon. They were rude and inconsiderate. If you wanted the better remote start if also was a big increase - it ended up costing more than if you took it to Best Buy or other "reputable" places....this place is dingy, dirty and very slippery in their dealings. read more

Purchased a groupon for a remote start and keyless entry as a gift. listed price is for 145. it states that any vehicle 2000 or newer might require a bypass system at additional charge.... I find this to be absurd. who would get a remote start on a vehicle older than 2000. the additional charge to the person I gave the gift to would be over $100.... first thought is complete ripoff. going to be contacting groupon to get it refunded if possible. any necessary parts should be included in the price as it's a remote starter you are purchasing end of discussion. It would be like going somewhere for a paint job on your car... they say they'll paint your car for $499 then when you schedule they say you'll have to pay them $200 for the paint or the sprayer or something... definitely going to be contacting groupon about a refund. read more

I purchased a Groupon ($225) for a 2-way remote starter. I went to get it installed in mid-June. Within hours I noticed that the remote starter that was supposed to be good up to 1500 feet would not work from more than 50 feet away. Our car also developed a ticking noise that sounds like our turning signal is on. My wife left 2 voicemails over the next 2 days & they were not returned. I then left 2 more voicemails over the 2 following days. Ironically enough, they were very quick to call back when we wanted to make the appointment. It's only afterwards that they stop returning calls. I sent an email to Groupon this weekend & they contacted Midwest Auto Customs. Groupon was told that if we called Midwest back they they would definitely help us. We've called twice today & both times they picked up and hung up. They obviously recognize the number (my wife & I both have Rhode Island area codes) and do not wish to help us. I filed a report with the BBB & my only other option is conciliation court. Be careful! My husband got me the Groupon fo a remote car starter.- it was put in on a Tuesday night. I tried it out the next day and it worked, but i had no heat in my car. I called right away the next morning and was told it was probably a wiring problem and would take ten mins to fix. After an a hour went by the owner said that it was a "coincidence" and my blower moter went out. He said he couldn't get one- but if i could track one down -he would put it in. I made many calls (day before Thanksgiving and I have to work Fri. am.) He showed me how the blower moter went out-and told me I would have to track one down (lots of phone work- I called three places- finally found one at Napa, went and got it and brought it back to him. He put it in, brought it back to me an hour later and said "I made a mistake. It's not a motor, it's an electrical component." I went back to Napa to return the perfectly good motor and ordered the component. They said it wouldn't be in until 4 o'clock. So I waited. When it came in, it was another 10$ on top of the motor I payed for. At this point, it was 110$ just for parts that worked beautifully before Midwest Auto touched them. I brought the component back and the mechanic put it in. This took up my entire day, the mechanic seemed very put out- even though I was the one driving with no heat for parts and spending the day before thanksgiving in his lobby trying to get what he had broken fixed. This was a very expensive and time consuming and frustrating experiance. read more

I too bought their groupon and called and left messages trying to get an appointment. They never called back. After almost two weeks I called again and found that it was not a working number. I called Groupon who got back to me and said the company would be calling in three days to schedule. I could not figure out why it would take three days. I waited another week with no call and then drove over there. The owner was standing around doing nothing with no vehicles in sight. He said he didnt have time to do it and would have to make an appointment. I'd told him I'd driven 1.5 hours to get there. He then said it would be an additional $99 for a bypass which brought this up to pretty much what other companies charge full price. I argued with him and then told him to forget it. I went to my car and called groupon. I was on hold for 17 minutes and watched this guy the whole time stand in the street chatting with another guy. He clearly would have had time but I doubt he actually plans on honoring these groupons. Thank God for groupon who gave me an immediate refund. I'd steer clear of this business. read more
