Oil still leaking from the same spot when I brought the car home
    J S.

I previously gave them 5 stars, but based on my last two visits, I'm no longer bringing my car here. The office staff are friendly but their mechanics seem to have a lack of attention to detail. At a previous visit to their Chicago location for an oil change on my aircooled Porsche, the mechanic didn't tighten down the oil drain plug. I got home and had a small pool of oil under the car and the plug was loose enough that I could hand-tighten it. They reached out to me and apologized, and asked for a second chance. Recently I needed another oil change and was having a small oil leak, so I thought I'd give them that second chance. I was told their aircooled tech moved to their Northbrook location, so even though it was much less convenient, I brought the car up there. I showed a picture of the leak to the service manager (though it was very easy to spot just peeking under the car), and after an inspection they recommended a costly amount of work to fix other minor leaks which included replacing two gaskets and seals, and a valve adjustment. I was told it would fix all of the issues they found, so I approved it and they finished the work within a couple days. Immediately when I got the car home, I noticed oil on the floor and a quick peek under the car showed it was still leaking from the same exact place it was initially. I get it, the car is old and they leak a lot, and sometimes it requires more work than initially planned. But I expect a mechanic to drive the car after working on it to make sure it's actually fixed, and if it's still leaking, tell me what it will take to fix it before giving me the car back. These two visits just seem like the mechanic is rushing through the work. Both problems seemed pretty easy to spot before the car left their shop if they would have taken the time to inspect it after testing. I feel like if I ever brought my car back there, I would have to inspect it myself before leaving the parking lot because I can't trust that it was actually fixed, which is not the kind of service you want from a mechanic.

At first, he told me to bring the truck so they could look at it. He then changed his instructions and told me to bring it in the following morning Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. The next morning, Tuesday, I arrived at approximately 8:15 a.m. The owner George was waiting for me. He told me that he had 50 cars to work on and instructed me to return in two weeks. I explained that I needed the steering problem repaired and that waiting two weeks is not acceptable and too long. I asked if he could give me an appointment or, alternatively, return my money so that I could take my truck somewhere else for repairs. I was shocked when he told me that he would not discuss returning my money unless I first removed the review I had posted back in April 25, 2026 about the visual marks on my truck (my truck had footprints on the bumper and a dent with grease). These issues were extremely concerning, especially because I had brought my vehicle to this business expecting professional service and care. The owner stated that I had a one-year warranty on the repair and parts. However, I believe he is attempting to push the expiration date forward rather than properly address the problem that occurred after the repair for the steering. I asked him to provide me with an appointment or put his statements in writing, he refused and said that he dose not do that. When I took out my camera to record what he was saying, the owner quickly walked out through a side door. I asked the receptionist to tell him that I wanted to speak with him. She returned and told me that he would be out in a minute- the owner never came back. While I was waiting, the receptionist accepted a walk-in customer, minutes later she schedule an appointment for a customer on the phone for service on Friday. At the same time, I could see the owner walking around inside the repair area. Since I was waiting without the owner coming back, I went to the open service bay and mention to him that my family had been bringing our vehicles to his business for years and that he had made money from our continued business and loyalty. So, instead of treating me as a valued, long-time customer, I was treated with disrespect and as if the steering problem was to cost him a ton of money. The steering problem is the result of that day (4-25-26) where the work was done careless or of an inexperienced worker. His workers caused the problem as to why I brought my truck back. Yet the owner refused to inspect the vehicle, provide me with an appointment, or return my money. The cost of the steering repair was $890.00. Since the repair was completed 4 months ago, the owner could have considered refunding a prorated amount. However, the cause was due to the repairs being of poor quality and not properly completed. With the owner's refusal to professionally address my concerns to get the problem resolved in a reasonable amount of time, I respectfully request that this matter be taken seriously and that I receive an appropriate resolution, including consideration of a refund for the $890.00 I paid for the steering repair.

I'd replaced the battery before, so I tried that again... nothing. My (very mechanically inclined) husband tried too--still nothing. That kicked off the search for a replacement, and wow--what a frustrating experience. The dealership quoted me $600 to replace and program a new key. Automotive locksmiths were all over the place--$180, $250--and the whole process felt vague and transactional, like you couldn't get a straight answer without jumping through hoops. Then I found Avondale Auto Repair through the Costco Auto Program--and everything changed. Rick answered the phone, and within seconds I felt reassured. He was straightforward, knowledgeable, and refreshingly honest. Instead of trying to sell me something, he explained the pros and cons--how aftermarket keys often don't last, and how they source directly from the dealer but can usually save customers about $100. No pressure. Just real, helpful information. When I came in, that same feeling continued. The shop itself is clean, bright, and welcoming--nothing like the typical auto repair environment. Nathan (Rick's brother-in-law) was at the front desk and immediately made us feel comfortable. Friendly, genuine, and incredibly helpful. Before recommending anything, he opened up my key and inspected it to confirm it wasn't just a battery issue. That alone told me everything--I wasn't being upsold. They were actually trying to help. Then Rick came back from lunch and did the same thing again, just to double check. I paid a deposit and they said they'd call once they got the key from the dealership. It took a few days. Even though they were short-staffed they week of my FOB order, Nathan handled everything with professionalism and kindness. He called three different dealerships to track down my key (since it was out of stock everywhere), coordinated the order, and made the whole process seamless. When I came back to drop off my car, even the staff helping me park were warm and courteous--it's those small touches that really stand out. We used to have a go-to repair shop nearby, but after a change in ownership, it just hasn't been the same. Now, we've found our new place. Avondale Auto Repair didn't just fix a problem--they earned our trust. And that's everything. That's how you do it, Nathan and Rick!

Once I received a few estimates, that's where I went to get the work done. The service at Berman's Infiniti was $2,499 plus tax. Avondale did everything and more for $1,260. HALF! It included replacing every fluid - oil, brake, trans, differential, coolant - plus all filters, tire rotation, throttle cleaning, and more. I had the car in at 8:30 and it was done by 4:00. I've waited at Berman's 3 hours just to get an old change and tires rotated. Not only that, but the guys there were great to deal with, especially Nabor. I'm moving out of state soon, but if I wasn't this would be the only place I would take my car. I cannot recommend Avondale Auto Repair highly enough. Make it 6 stars.
