2017 Update: After much discussion and several visits, we did receive a refund for the "extra electrical" that their subcontractor charged us on the spot, for electrical that was already included in our contract with Midwest. We also received a refund for the drainage repair we paid for after the Midwest workers crushed a large PVC drainage tube and then covered it up without telling us. Product-wise, we've been happy with the fiberglass pool. Granted, we've only had it open for one season. We also invested in a power cover, and although we're happy with the added level of safety, I'm a little concerned with the quality of the actual mechanics. We'll see how long it lasts. Here is some advice if you're planning on going with Midwest: 1 - Ask for a name and number of the Midwest employee that will be overseeing you're entire installation, and make sure they're at your house when the subcontractors are working. Most of our issues wouldn't have happened if their subcontractors were properly supervised by a Midwest employee. After all, that is what you're paying Midwest to do. 2 - Get everything in writing. Even if it's for something small. The labor to close our pool was already covered by an addendum, but we had to prove it on three separate occasions. read more

After thinking the same thing as a bunch of you that Midwest's service is horrible and complaining because they never come out when they say they will.... I've had my spool for 3 years and true, i've had a few problems. Leaks, Heater broken, learning daily management, opening, closing... Then on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, the owner, Scott, came over twice and personally repaired our pool heater. I think that they're doing the best they can but fiberglass pools are still fairly new and they're learning as they go along. He also has problems keeping good workers. There are not many other dealerships out there that are any better. So, if you want a fiberglass pool and you've read all the reviews and you get challenging service, then you're taking that risk. You can always pay more for a gunite pool from someone else but who knows if you'll get any better service. For the owner to come out himself this past holiday weekend. I think that says a lot and that he's making an effort. Let's all maybe try to be a little more patient and reasonable. I will still buy my next spool from them! This is a follow-up from my 5/25 post. It has been 2 months since all of the problems started with our pool installation. 6 trips to our house by folks from Midwest trying to figure out why our heater and chlorinator wasn't working. Many trips to the pool store to check chemicals and buy chemicals to try and get our chemical levels where they should be. After my last review the owner Scott called my husband and said "I wish I knew you were having these problems". As an owner you have to know what is going on with your company. My husband finally called Hayward and reported a warranty issue with our heater and chlorinator since we were not getting anywhere with Midwest. Finally Kyle came out and spent an hour looking at the equipment etc. Come to find out it was a "software" upgrade that was not installed. So when our pool was installed, they did not install the latest software. Are you kidding me. After this was installed, everything has been running great. How sad that a software update was not done by another subcontractor the company hired. They project management and a check list once a pool has been installed. It is common sense to follow through after you provide a service to see how everything is etc. Stop saying why wasn't it done etc. You won't be in business very long if you don't get a grip on your services provided by sub-contractors or have a clear process from the beginning to the end to make sure what was agreed is successfully completed to all participates satisfaction. read more

Our pool was installed in 2011 with a similar experience as others with many missed appointments. We had a line pool installed and have had many problems with large wrinkles and feeling stones on the floor through the liner. After only 8 years our liner is being replaced and it was eye opening to see how bad the finish was underneath the liner. The company replacing the liner said the floor looks terrible and the deck concrete was finished much better than the floor of the pool. There are more issues with Midwest. Long story short, poor workmanship and I would not recommend Midwest to anyone. read more

Well we now have our wonderful fiberglass pool installed and ready to go! It is absolutely beautiful and we are so thrilled! Austin came out w Tom and they cleaned our pool and patiently taught us how to take care of everything. Austin was awesome through this whole process. Summed up post: Would recommend 100% and am willing to chat with anyone who has questions or wants tips/tricks to avoid the headaches many people seem to experience. Long detailed post: Purchased pool, install, closing 2017 and opening 2018 From everyone's reviews I was scared to death to work with Midwest Pools. However, they came recommended by our landscaper and our previous pool company had filed bankruptcy... so what to do? With plenty of hesitation we decided to go with Midwest pools. The quoting went good. The design went great? The install might have been not so great because they had to hire outside people to do the job, but thankfully Randy from Midwest came over right away when I called with some concern. He was here until around 10pm on Friday of Labor Day weekend making sure that the pool was done correctly. And had multiple people check in the following week to see how it went. Our pool looks amazing. Closing was fast (it was freezing cold out). Opening this year and final inspection went great! We had an issue with the pump pressure (Scott, the owner, mentioned we might need a bigger one last year due to where we ended up placing the pool equipment) and they brought us a new pump two days after opening. Scott has personally stopped by to help me when I didn't know what was wrong with the pool and showed me and fixed it up before leaving. Everyone is super friendly and has done everything we've asked since working with them. I am not so new to construction or the service industry so I know to make appointments early in the season and check in often. Also if you are later in the day there is a good chance something might come up. All it takes is one or two disasters at sites and the rest of the days clients are bumped. It's just how it works. Communication would be great, but I don't usually hold my breath. I do the checking in and follow up. **Things to remember, they are a small family pool company that has grown exponentially over the years leaving them short staffed and overbooked. If you are patient and understanding they will go above and beyond for you. I was also told that they are working on their services tool this year so hopefully next year it will run smoother. No company is perfect, but they know what they are doing and are very good at it. And that was most important to us. Scheduling seems to not be so great, but we haven't ran into that issue too much in the past year we have been working with them. Or maybe they have exceeded our expectations so much everywhere else that I've simply forgot about them. And they are apparently working on that too! This pool/landscaping project was intense. (We had over 120 tons of ledge-rock brought in just to put in the pool) When I've had any issues or potential issues I've asked to speak with Scott and he has taken care of us every time! read more

Update to my last post - It's been three years, but Scott did come out and see that our job was not complete up to par. We came to an agreement on coating the concrete and now it looks beautiful! We had the spa tiled and we were so impressed, we decided to have the whole pool done! It is just beautiful now, the oasis we always wanted. I guess every company goes through staffing issues and I really hope they have things worked out now. Our finished product is top notch and we are happy customers now! read more

Scott and his team have been incredible over the past year. The quality or work and the excellent service Midwest has provided to me and my wife have been top notch! Scott himself has come out at times to check-in with us and make sure everything is running smoothly. Any issues we had, he has been able to fix them quickly. No matter how small or big. Great example would be today. Our filter basket broke due to cottonwood trees dropping their cotton ball seeds in the pool and clogged the filter basket. We could not find a pool shop that had our exact basket size, except Amazon, which would be a 2 day wait. Scott showed up and replaced our basket the next day and made sure to clean everything out for us. Thank you, Midwest Pools! I would highly recommend. They opened and closed our pool with no issues as well. The team that came out was very friendly and helpful. read more

Midwest pools installed a finerglass pool for me 21years ago and it is fantastic.I live in Fenton Michigan and I can tell you I have one of the nicest pools you can buy there is virtually no maintenance what so ever. I spend my time enjoying the pool instead of working on it. would I do it again? The answer is yes time and time again. Plus i added value to my home. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to leave a negative review on any platform. People who leave negative comments usually just annoy me. I often wonder how unhappy people must be in their life to get to the point that they feel the need to bash someone online. After dealing with Midwest Pools, my thought process has drastically changed. Midwest Pools installed our pool four years ago. It was a disaster from the moment I gave them my money. We have experienced countless unfulfilled promises, extremely delayed work, and numerous maintenance problems. I always look for the good in others and give them multiple chances to fix problems. The straw that has finally pushed me over the edge was a total lack of customer service. Over three weeks ago, I attempted to open my pool. During the process, I realized Midwest didn't remove the sense and dispense probes from my system during the winterization process. The probes obviously didn't make it through the Michigan winter. I immediately called Midwest to fix their mistake. I have called Midwest roughly 10 times sensethe issue was discovered. When I have spoken with Midwest representatives, they have given me several different stories. First, I was told the probes were being shipped. When they never showed up, I was told the rep was busy and they would call me back. Then, I was told they were on back order. Over my last four calls, I have been promised someone would call me back. It is was 87 degrees today. It will be 92 in a couple of days. It is a perfect Memorial Day Weekend in Michigan. Yet again, Midwest Pools has me looking at wasted money in my backyard that isn't functional. I decided to finally write this review when my 8 year and 10 year old asked me to fire the pool company. It is even obvious to my young children that using Midwest Pools was a mistake that we should help others from making. read more

ZERO STARS were not an option, unfortunately. DO NOT WORK WITH OR HIRE THIS COMPANY - EVER. This was the worst experience we have ever had with a contractor. They will take your money and not complete the project. Zero customer service or regard for a job well done, or their customers. I don't even know how they get out of the house because they are completely incompetent. (They never show up to complete jobs - so they may not actually get out of the house.) Zero communication with management and the owner could care less about his company's reputation. I DO NOT recommend hiring them in ANY capacity. They cashed all the checks and the job still isn't done, the owner still continues to take no accountability for the project and will probably never finish. You will need a lawyer. The pool is in need of repair, and is still not finished. He has been sued multiple times, the complaints are a matter of public record. Check their reviews on BBB and Google. After reading reviews with similar experiences, I wanted to convey my experience as a "worst case" with Midwest Pools' brief excursion into North Carolina back in 2009. At that time, Midwest Pools was advertising themselves at a local pool convention as company operating in 5 states, including MI, FL, & NC. My wife & I decided it was worth picking the most expensive quote, in order to rely on a larger company for our pool. What a mistake. With the concrete patio crumbling immediately after pouring, and the pipes plumbed incorrectly, the regional VP came out to survey the damage, and promised to re-do the whole project. They then vanished, and the two NC locations closed the doors forever. When I found the central number and website was still active, I was informed that Midwest Pools was actually 3 individual companies, and the the brother that owned the NC locations filed bankruptcy, but not the Dad and the other brother (The MI location is the "other brother"). Eventually, I was forced to subcontract the project I had already paid for myself, and essentially paid twice for our pool - Meanwhile, Midwest Pools went on their merry way, in Mi and FL. In my view, this is was the most dishonest business practice I have ever dealt with. read more

Midwest installed our fiberglass pool 15+ years ago. We have had them open and close and repair our pool all these years. The service has gone downhill. They never got the heater started last year and wanted to charge me to come out and do what they were supposed to do at opening. Put notes on their paperwork and spoke with two individuals about repairing the water flow to the slide. Twice they "forgot" and "don't have the materials with them to do the job." This year I call for an opening and they said they're fully booked until June. Nothing they can do. This is how they take care of regular, long-time customers. read more

I was first a customer of Midwest Pools 4 years ago. I have since become an employee of the company. My Leading Edge Pool was made right here in Michigan. Although the project had some bumps and hurdles (like any major project), I now have a beautiful backyard or, as I like to say, an endless vacation right in my backyard. Working for the company, I can assure you that the busiest times are prior to Memorial Day (because everyone wants their pool opened beforehand) and right after Labor Day (to close their pool). Midwest has numerous customers and we try as best as we can to get everyone on "the schedule" as soon as possible. It is never our intention to purposely ignore one's phone call. We just ask that you be patient during our busy season and allow us some time to call each and every one of you back. Thanks. read more

Have a County inspection coming due for hotel spa and pool. called to Midwest to schedule appt on a Tuesday, they scheduled with me for that Thursday. They never showed up. I called them, they thought my job had been done. They said Friday or first thing Saturday morning they would be in. Nope. Called Saturday afternoon, no one answered or returned my call. Sunday texted, answer given they will try for Monday. Needless to say I will be calling different company and livid that my inspection is due now this week and i have to start all over finding another company. This company is extremely unprofessional and unreliable. read more

I will never use or recommend this company again. They couldn't make their scheduled apt last year but wanted to continue my business, so the owner called me and rectified the problem. They closed my pool for free last year to make up for the screw up, I appreciated that and called them to open the pool this year. I was told more than likely it would be between 8-11, at 4:30 a man called to say that they would not be coming today, tomorrow. NO, NO NO! Never again!! Never received a phone call to say they were running behind, which would have been the decent thing to do. My time is valuable as well, but I was very flexible. We had Midwest Pools out of Grand Blanc, MI install our pool two years ago. It looks nice and the people were pleasant to deal with. BUT any and all service after the installation of the pool is horrible. We had an almost immediate crack in our concrete. NO call back. We had a problem with our salt chlorine generator and I was given the number to the manufacturer to find a fix rather than them coming to fix it. Just this past week I have called them three times to have our pool opened and not once has a call been returned. Even though the install was fine, the lack of customer service following is extremely frustrating on my part and terrible for business on theirs. read more

DO NOT USE THEM! Worst costumer service ever, got our money and ran! After the installation of our pool last year, we paid our final bill and since then we have had to call repeatedly just to get a response from their service team or really anyone aside from the girls answering the phone, who only take messages. We decided to use them to close and open our pool for the first times, and had nothing but hassle. We left several messages for managers and even the owner, with no response. Several of their own employees have told us not to expect much now that we paid our final bill, and the "new" owners did not care one bit about keeping customers happy after they got their money, they only see dollar signs and seem to have absolutely no idea how to run a business. They are so horrible in fact that when we have called back and asked for the previous service person we met with, we have been told several times, "oh that person quit" if your employees (some who worked there for many many years under previous owner) all leave you, maybe your company is the problem. read more

Bought a pool kit from Midwest during the summer of 2015. Scott Hover was very helpful and spent a lot of time with us at their open-house. Scott was very helpful in meeting timelines and scheduling. He was very responsive to our needs and extremely generous with pricing and extras. Scott has a contractors that work with/for him, who were also very helpful as a DIY. On the day of delivery of the pool, Scott personally showed up at the job site and assisted by grabbing a shovel & rake to get the pool set right. We have had excellent follow up service. Scott respond to emails and phone calls in a very timely fashion. read more

The worst company and customer service ever. I set up for a pool opening. Received a standard call the day before to confirm. Took the day off only have them be NO SHOW. Called the next day to hear "you must have been bumped from the schedule" ???? They rescheduled for the morning few days later and showed up at 3pm. Told me my pump was bad and could not do the opening until I order a new one $750. They rescheduled for morning 4 days later. Once again the called the night before to confirm and never showed on appointment day. Another wasted day. To top it off I found out the pump just had a little debris in it and once cleaned out it worked just fine. When I called to complain the stated " sorry our scheduling didn't meet your needs, good bye". Don't waste your time with this company. If I could leave less than one star I would. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this couldn't be helped. read more
