I've already been here twice. I was very skeptical the first time based on the bad reviews I read, but in all honesty both times the food and the service were great. The salsa tastes fresh, not out of a jar; the chips are delightfully thin, crispy and just the right amount of salty. The food has always been pretty tasty, and this has been agreed on by my companions. All the servers we've dealt with have been courteous, but the first one (I wish I remembered her name) went above and beyond to accommodate us in the smallest of details. This isn't typical Texmex, but it's awesome! They start you out with delicious salsa (it's got a kick), flavor is fantastic and also a white sauce (think spicy ranch), with chips that aren't at all greasy. The stacked nachos are fantastic! I wouldn't mind a little more of their queso blanco on them, but that's just because the queso is so dang good! Service is great and I love that the owner comes out to check on everyone. This place won't be for everyone, but if you do like it, it's easy to become obsessed!!! read more

Wait time was not bad at all. Lunch at 11:30 party of 3. Waiter was nice, lemonade was REALLY good! Chips and sauces were OK but I will order queso next time. Had the enchiladas, one cheese and onion and one chicken. Cheese enchilada was good but the chicken enchilada was horrible. Calberra beans were horrible. My friend had chicken fajitas and they were good. Decor was nice and the noise level was not deafening like other Mexican food restaurants. I will try it again and order something else. read more

I've eaten there 3 times. Very pricey. Very good rellenos. Horrible white "salsa" and this time they said the salsa verde is seasonal, however they use tomatillos in other things, so they still buy them. They should ditch the white stuff and keep the verde all the time. The rice is different. It has egg and corn in it and is heavy on the cumin. Their food is good! They have a beautiful bar area that's comfy and spacious. Great place to relax with a cocktail after work. They are generous with tequila in the margaritas. I never feel shorted when I leave this place. Great atmosphere and nice staff. read more

Ive been here 2 times. The first time was okay (about 3 stars) nothing special. The first time we went on Wednesday for the margarita specials. Not a bad night. Waiter was attentive, food was okay. The second time I went, also on a Wednesday was TERRIBLE. We barely ever saw our waiter, it took about 45 minutes for our drinks after we ordered them. We even began ordering 2 at a time because they were so slow coming out. Then the drinks were all wrong! Our food took another hour to come out. At that point several of us asked for our bill right then knowing it may take forever to see the waiter again. When he returned he only returned with some of our bills and not for everyone who asked. When we gave him our cards for payment he disappeared WITH OUR CARDS for another 30 min to the point I had to get up and ask someone to get him because its inappropriate to walk around with someones debit/ credit card. Finally he showed back up and we have been watching our bank statements very closely since. Terrible experience. Probably wont be back ever. The inside of the restaurant itself is BEAUTIFUL, but the service is terrible. Hopefully they find staff that will provide better service to guests. read more

First the only reason I gave the cafe a three rating was for atmosphere. The food was fantastic and I have no complaints. For a cafe/restaurant with such beautiful decor and wonderfully attentive waitstaff it is a shame that the whole visit is ruined by music so loud you cannot even talk with the person sitting next to you unless you are yelling. We went twice in a two day time span, loved the food but couldn't wait to escape due to all the yelling by those around us trying to be heard over the music. Miguel's is a welcome treat to Abilene. This was our 2nd visit but first for lunch. The service was great with a lunch menu of 7 or 8 items to choose from. Lunch prices were 7.95-8.95. I had a beef enchilada, Caballero beans and rice that was served steaming hot. Every bite was a delicious treat. Not your usual Mexican food. Miguel's food has a unique, savory, flavor. The decor and atmosphere are a delight. It is perfect for special occasions, especially the patio for people 18 years and over. It's as pretty outside as it is inside. The first time I tried Miguels was at lunch time. I got chicken fajitas and they were basic chicken meat which was seasoned with pepper it tasted pretty plain with rubbery tortillas. What seemed to be unique dishes are terrible tasting like adding bacon to the beans and eggs to the rice. The second time I tried it will be the last time. I tried the rotisserie chicken taco and the meat was dry and had an odd terrible taste, I couldn't finish after two bites. The potatoes side is hash browns with carmelized onions and queso on top, once again unique dish but taste was under par. One thing I will brag on is there fried bread pudding it is heavenly. The service was good, the ambiance and decor is great, but the food is terrible and what keeps me from returning and why I rate it so low. read more

Stopped in for a Sunday mid meal around 3:30 pm. We were told the wait would be around 45 minutes, so we went to the bar area to wait. We both, ( The hubby was with), had Margaret's, on the rocks for me, frozen for him. The drinks were great, and brought out timely by a friendly attentive waiter. The chips and Miguel dip, (white cheese, guacamole, and pico) was very nice. Our table was ready in about 20 minutes. Our waitress greater us promptly and was very helpful. I had the taco duos, smoked salmon on one, the coffee rube brisket on the other. Both were very good. The cabbage slaw gave a great crunch to both tacos, but I lean more to the smoked salmon, just melts in your mouth. My hubby had a steak and loved it, a bit over cooked though, but not enough to spoil the meal. We were lucky enough to be seated in the back near the patio. The doors were opened and the most lovely breeze was to be felt. If you have the chance and the time, do talk a walk by the fountains, just the perfect end to the meal.. read more

My husband and I ate there for lunch, and I had the enchilada/taco plate with the mexican fried rice, and he had the carne guisada plate. If you want bland, and I mean bland food, then this is the place to go. Mexican food is supposed to be full of flavor and spice, and unfortunately this food is as bland as a TV dinner. I visited Miguel's last Thursday with a couple of friends and was quite impressed. The place was quite busy, but we might have waited around five minutes for a table. The service was a bit slow, prices about as expected, but the offerings were rather eclectic for this area. The style of the place is definitely upscale. Horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE customer service and management. I organized a dinner for 18 people who had attended my daughter's MBA graduation from ACU. We called ahead to put our name on the list at 5:15 and were told our table would be ready at 6:15. We arrived at 5:45 and were assured we would be seated at 6:15 and to proceed to the bar area while we waited. I had my 8 and 18 year old daughters with us since they are also family. The bartenders were beyond rude so we grabbed an open table. The entire group proceeds to place drink orders with the only nice employee at the establishment. I ordered a cherry sprite for my youngest and he warned me that he would get fired by the manager if caught for serving a SPRITE to an 8 year old. We brushed it off and thought it to be crazy. Fast forward TWO hours, we were still waiting and had checked on our table at least SIX times. Meanwhile, another table opens up in the bar area. We grabbed it and decided we'd just eat in there. Rude waiter approaches and tells me the child cannot eat anything if we order food. I commented on his remark and his response was "Ok bye, get out". I headed up to the front to speak to the manager. BIG mistake unless you want to literally be yelled at in front of the entire restaurant. At this point, we had waited for two hours beyond our guaranteed time and his comment was that he was going to "scatter us all around the restaurant". The table we had been assigned to somehow miraculously had been at that same table for more than three hours. We all know that's not true. So, as the mother of the graduate, after waiting all this time, we were forced to leave, without eating, and drive our three hour trip home. This restaurant wanted all the money they could get in their so-called "bar". This included them SERVING alcohol to my 18 year old. But no food. Food is not allowed evidently. This is not a TABC mandate but a personal choice of the facility to NOT SERVE FOOD to minors. Completely ridiculous and without any sort of concession or apology. The people in our party that remained said the food and service was pathetic. Glad I didn't waste any more money at this place. Good riddance Miguel's with all your crappy employees. And to the only good employee there, who will remain unnamed, do better for yourself than this place. read more

My lady and I waited for a little while after this restaurant opened before we decided to give it a try. We showed up at around 1900 and waited for around 30 minutes, which honestly I would say is not that bad all considered. Once seated the two of us waited for a good bit before we ever got our first server. Once waited on we ordered our drink and an appetizer to get us started. I must say the adult beverages were up to par. Top shelf Tequila used for the margaritas. The chips and salsa's were unique. The red salsa along with a fruits and greens sauce and the white sauce. Delicious and unique. We both ordered the Honey Chipotle Salmon and the corn. I was very impressed with the salmon and was pleased with my meal. The service was a bit slow and I would begin to notice what I suspected as the owner playing favorites around us, so in turn our waiter would do the same. One thing you will notice is that if you aren't an older rich type man, then don't expect the wondering owner of the restaurant to give you so much as a look. Recently opened, Miguel's is clearly a huge hit in Abilene, Texas. We stopped in on a Friday night and found there was an hour and a half wait. The hostess was extremely accommodating and took our number to send a text when our time was near so we could return to our hotel. By dinner, we found that we were so glad to have waited! Everything was fantastic! The frilled chicken puffy taco - seasoned, smoky perfection! Cheese enchiladas that offer clear quality in ingredient choice. The sides are fantastic!! Our server, Heather of the black blouse (they have several Heather's), managed to appear to chat casually with us while expertly handling the needs of several tables all at once. Absolute friendly professionalism. This place is top notch and hats off to a person with a vision, a highly talented Chef, and a brilliant support team!!
