First of all, THANK YOU for the FREE EV Charging! Wow! Restaurants offering charging is already few and far between, but seeing for free (and relatively fast for Level 2 charging @ 8kW) when car dealerships are charging 89¢/kWh up the road (which is absolute highway robbery) is such an incredible amenity and I'm very grateful! My wife and I had great service from server Justice on a Thursday night. I ordered the Flank Steak fajitas and was greeted by an absolutely delicious and more-than-generous portion of steak, fajita veggies, and various salad accoutrement (lettuce, fresh tomato, guac, sour cream, etc). For the price and in this particular tourist hot spot, I feel like it was not only an incredible value, but a noteworthy experience for both locals and tourists alike! I really wanted to like this place, I dont ever leave bad reviews as a local business person myself I understand places have a bad day now and then but this was a bit much. The good.. We were met at the front door with what seemed to be a manager who seated us The sever named Justice was quite nice and attentive The salsa, queso and chips were great. The bad: every hot sauce bottle at the table was empty, I worked in this industry before and at the end of a shift we used to refill all consumables when closing a shift. To see dry bottles with dry crusty residue was very disappointing. The food was over salted and not from a food snob standpoint it literally had granular salt clumps in the burrito and in the sides we ordered. There was no handwash in the bathroom which I completely understand that as bussiness owners we cant always keep up with when it gets busy. But what I cant understand is why the bartender is allowed to curse like a sailor dropping F-bombs every other word that carries across the reasturaunt. As someome who runs a bussiness this was horrifying. Myself and my wife were not offended as I spent 20+ years in the military and recently retired and I have heard it all but if I had been there with my kids it would have been another story. Overall the place has good potential but needs a good clean up. We had a really great dinner here during our weekend stay on Pushaw lake. They have great vegan options for my hubs and were able to sub in vegan chorizo or tofu for any of the meat dishes A+! I had a chimi with chicken and rice it was exactly what I hoped for. The margarita I had was fab and the waitress/bartender and setting of the restaurant made me wish we lived nearby. read more

At first glance, Miguel's is unassuming. The appetizer of fried avocado was fun and quite tasty. The dish would have been spectacular had the fryer oil been changed recently. It was my fave. The entree was drowned in gloopy sauce, the esquites were simple canned corn with a nondescript cheese sauce, not a fresh side with cotija and lime with tasty chile. The refried beans tasted canned. The poke was great, but the blue corn tostados were cold and hard and very difficult to eat. Amazing vegan options! Everything on the menu can be made with veg fillings - salsa verde tofu, veggie chorizo, or mixed vegetables. And they have dairy free cheese and sour cream and vegetarian beans and rice. This was completely unexpected and we were delighted. They also have plenty of paleo/keto options as well as gluten free options and can accommodate a range of spice levels so if you have a picky crowd to feed I'm pretty sure Miguel's will be able to accommodate everyone. The food was pretty good - we were visiting from California so our Mexican food standards are high. What blew me away was how well they prepared the vegan proteins. I cook soyrizo at home and have had it in plenty of restaurants and never has it tasted as good as it did at Miguel's. I think they add some spices or seasonings of their own and then cook it until there are these delicious crispy bits. Wow. I highly recommend trying it. I had the stuffed avocados and my partner ordered tofu enchiladas. If you aren't keto the stuffed avocados are even better with a side of tortillas. The beans were delicious, I was sad that the refried beans weren't vegetarian but the black beans were flavorful and had a lovely texture. Our server was amazing and the manager stopped by our table as well and was very helpful. I was raised and lived in South Texas for 40 years and after moving here to retire with my Maine husband we finally found an authentic Mexican restaurant. I love the food, the decor and especially the Mexican music. It's so much like home! It's really our favorite relaxing place now! Great Mexican restaurant and has remained consistent over the years. Had fried green tomatoes here that were on special that were absolutely delicious. Also their fajitas, tacos and burritos are really great as well. Highly recommend their horchata as well as drinks from the bar. Are not weak, and also very tasty! Also, definitely sign up for their rewards program - it's seriously one of the best rewards programs around. You get at minimum a free full sized app or entree item every month - plus no other purchase necessary so there's not a hidden clause to use it. Really friendly staff as well and great atmosphere. Mixed reviews. Would definitely try again in the future. We love Mexican food having lived most of our lives close to the California / Mexico border and having traveled into Mexico a lot. In Cali we had great access to wonderful Mexican foods. Here at Miguel's my mom loved her tostada salad with chicken. My Carnitas dinner was just ok -- the corn /esquites was from a CAN (do not recommend!) and my carnitas were way overdone and dry, the tortillas were very dry and not fresh. But the veggies and sauce and chips and salsa were all very good. The coconut fried ice cream was manna from heaven!!! Delicious!!! I'd come again just for it!!! And if I came to try again, I'd try the Rellano (they were out today) or street tacos or fajitas... just do not get the carnitas (unless you order them moist and medium) or esquites(corn) until they start using fresh corn. [I wrote a review that somehow was inadvertently deleted. This will be shorter....] ;) Three visits to Miguel's Mexican Restaurant; unfortunately, each visit with diminishing results.... First visit was fabulous! Street Tacos (made vegan), service, everything was terrific! Second visit (a week later): Love the gratis chips and hot (spicy) salsa! Service was fine. Ordered the same as the last time, figuring I couldn't go wrong.... Alas, as good as the fillings were, they were served on stale and hard soft taco shells. It was difficult to finish my meal. My other half, too, had tacos on stale shells. Our "high" from the first visit was not matched on visit two. (Perhaps it was simply an off-day??? Well, we said let's give it one more try before writing reviews. Visit three (another week later): Chips, salsa, Modelo Nero: Great! Service: Wholly decent, but definitely "green" as far as experience goes. (We mentioned our last visit as having stale and tough soft shells, and she merely glazed right over the mention and said, "Oh, would you prefer hard tacos this time?" Uh, that wasn't the point.... Like I said, "green.") Anyway, this time around we both decided to order something different, each of us choosing the fried avocado tacos meal (with soft taco shells!). ;) Well, what was presented at service was almost laughable if it weren't so lamentable!!! Two pieces of small fried avocados, laying fairly bare on open-faced shells, with two heaps (respectively) of rice and black beans, and a dap of some kind of sauce atop each taco -- not each piece of fried avocado. Big fan. The service was incredible. We sat in a booth near the bar and our server/bartender was super attentive and gregarious and made some great recommendations that we followed. The food was delicious. I had a ton of $2 tacos and my wife had the classic enchiladas and she mentioned the sauce being some of the best she's had at a restaurant. Miguel's is probably a solid 4 as a whole but the service was above and beyond. I'm sure we'll be back the next time we're in Bangor! read more

Grew up on the West coast, was very spoiled with Mexican food. Been here for a year and finally ready to try some Mexican in Maine. It was okay. Filled the craving a bit. I can definitely make better street tacos at home but will try the other items at another time. Black beans and rice could be seasoned better but they have the standard cholula and El Yucateco. A friend recommended this place since we are vegan and Miguel's has many vegan options if you ask for them. Three visits with a star disappearing each time. The first visit was great, street tacos and a Modelo Negra Mexican Beer. Perfect pairing with great service. Second trip was the street tacos since they were so good the first time. This time, really nasty. The 'soft' corn tortilla was hard and rubbery at the same time. Was hard to even tear it apart, much less bite through it. I think they were stale after the weekend or left out overnight and they tried to revive it in the microwave for too long. Blah! Then the third visit. I ordered the avocado tacos and I mentioned the really bad soft tacos on our last visit and the server looked straight at me and said "so you want the hard shells then," more as a statement and not a question. No sorry or anything. Oh well. The food was good and enjoyed our lunch. The decor is a bit kitsch and the music is mostly cantina band, did I mention they have 2 EV charging stations!! read more

Food wasn't that great, the service took forever, and our server was sniffling the whole time we were there. Now, two days later, they are closed because one of their employees tested positive for COVID-19. If one of your staff shows signs of being sick, then at least make them wear a mask! I love Miguel's! I am a local resident and it is one of my favorite lunch spots. The tostada salad has a generous portion of seasoned grilled chicken, black beans, avocado, lettuce, corn, and cheese. The fish tacos are great and my husband recommends the quesadillas. There are plentiful options for every type of eater. The house made salsa is yummy, we usually get 1/2 smooth and 1/2 chunky than combine the two. I enjoy the margarita on the rocks with Hornitos reposado and salt! read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. We came in on a quiet Saturday afternoon and had a fabulous experience. The options in Bangor can be limited, but Miguel's will be a new option for our family. We were seated right away. They were not very crowded. I can imagine them being crowded and the service and good taking much longer. Our waitress was fabulous! As per most Mexican restaurants, we were given a bowl of warm chips. Yum! We were given the option of chunky or smooth salsa. We opted for chunky because we aren't spicy fans. We ordered the fish tacos and Verde burrito. The fish tacos were the best we've had in a while. The fish was lightly fried with mango and a cream sauce. We were quite impressed. People walking out even commented on how good the tacos looked and wished they ordered them. The Verde burrito was somewhat a build-your-own burrito. We opted for ground beef, corn, and guacamole. It was a perfect combination. The beef was really tasty. For both of our dishes, we had rice and refried beans. There were other options, but when eating Mexican, how can you get anything else? The only negative of our experience was when the bill came--I attempted to use the 15% off the bill via Yelp and was told it expired a long time ago and I couldn't use it. We've been here many times and have only ever had tasty food and good service. They have a good number of options for vegetarians, paleo eaters, and some classic and more unique dishes. Service is consistently fast and friendly, and while the bar is small (and often full of regulars) there is plenty of comfortable seating and the rest of the restaurant has a better atmosphere anyway. Don't be mistaken by the "chain-ey" / generic appearance -- this restaurant flies under the radar though they the basics (food and service) consistently well. read more

We've probably visited this restaurant about 100 times over the last 5 and a half years. We've never had a bad meal here. We would come often after skiing at Hermon Mountain and sit in my favorite booth (#24 - the table under the "tiki hut" area that is both away from the bar and further away from the entrance) or after doctor's appointments in the area, or sometimes we'd drive up to Bangor from Lamoine just to eat at Miguel's! I love their Paleo menu... for doing low carb, there are a lot of options, from the chicken dish to the Primal Cobb salad to the Paleo fajitas which is loaded with meat - probably a pound of it! The only Paleo dish that I wasn't fond of was the avocados, and not because they weren't delish, but they weren't filling enough. When I'm not tryna low carb I love the California burrito - ask for it "old school" style with the Roja and french fries - delicious! Also, the Tacos Al Pastor - any taco dish, really - always good! Rice and beans are my favorite and even their fries are pretty good. Their salsa is so fresh and delicious - In general I'm not a fan of pureed salsa but I love the chunky salsa. Every now and then they will come out with a special that is so freaking good, the only drawback is that when you find a special that you really like, it's often gone in a week or two and then you're left craving it for the rest of your natural life. Having been a regular at this restaurant for several years, I've gotten to know quite a few of the longstanding servers and bartenders. My favorites are Megan and Scott. We have always gotten fantastic service from both. Megan's area is usually the bar (since she tends bar mostly) except for Thursday when she is a server instead, and she is super cool. Scott has essentially memorized everything about our orders so as soon as we sit down in his section he comes right out with our drinks, the salsa that we like, and even some celery sticks (that I use for having salsa when I am doing the low carb/keto thang.) Ashley was that way also, but we haven't seen her in years just because we never go when she's working anymore. Kevin, the manager, is ever-present and customer-focused. If there is an issue he will do what he can to make it right. In short, this review has been long overdue. We had dinner at the plops (what we call 'Las Palapas' across the street) once and we liked Miguel's much better. Better service and better food. Their specials, their variety for people with different eating lifestyles (Paleo/Keto/Gluten Free/Vegan), as well as the service kept us coming in regularly for 5 and a half years when we lived in the area. I look forward to returning on my regular visits to the area for work. read more

This was my first experience here and the menu had many options for a vegetarian. I ordered the vegetarian chorizo enchilada and it was fantastic. The chips and salsa were delicious and we also had the spicy pickle spears which we loved. The service was excellent! Our server Lisa was friendly and very accommodating, excellent at her job. The general manager Kevin also was terrific and he checked on us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves super friendly as well. Very clean facility, nice atmosphere and great food! read more

We cut slack to Mexican restaurants the farther they are from the Rio Grande. This one needs to be in Gander, Newfoundland to get the slack it needs. The menu makes a point of noting that they try to source locally as much as possible. It doesn't matter when the outcome is as bland as this. We were offered some hot sauces, two from Maine--with habanero chiles, but the baseline was, bluntly, dull. It says something when the hostess seated us and then nothing happened for a very long time. The one other occupied table in the place finished their meal and left (one of them seems to have gone to the bar to pay, because there was a bartender/manager there, looking after the day-drinkers). A waiter finally did appear, and told us that the hostess who had seated us left the building without telling anyone we were there. There was a Yelp! sticker on the door and I found a check-in bonus on the app (see photo), but it said that the offer was good in April. When the waiter saw it he said they don't have any such thing (apparently this happened before, since there is another screen shot of of the offer here). I showed it to the bartender and she disavowed any knowledge of it. A little later a fellow I think was the owner came to look at it and said they had placed something for April 2016 (it's now the end of June, 2017), but said they'd honor it. Well, yeah, sort-of. When we ordered from the lunch menu, one of us wanted the three-taco deal with fish, and was told that he could get fish, but only with two tacos--(but not that this meant he was ordering from the dinner menu, at $4 more). That was what was discounted, not the entire check. Hooray for the $1.89 off our bill. I'd love to report that Miguel's is a gem in the middle of all the chains around Bangor Mall, but I can't. The food we had looked good but the taste was below unremarkable, and the way they handled the Yelp! discount situation (especially after leaving us unacknowledged for 10 to 15 minutes) evaporated any goodwill they might have been able to earn. read more

It was late on a weekend night, and I think the staff was just tired. I should have left when I saw the first employee roll their eyes when they saw my party come in. She turned around without saying a word, and another employee approached us, note I didn't say greet us. And so our dinner began with less than great expectations. Queso dip seemed like heated velveeta, the chimichanga's that I were deep fried too long, but my eating companions's fajitas were very good, so not a total loss. I used to go to Miguel's every year on my birthday -- I even went there for my 21st! It had been a few years since I've gone so my boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner the other night. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience. The food was terrible -- we got a side of guacamole with our chips that looked old to start. My boyfriend ordered tacos that looked inedible. The chicken was dry and the rest of the filling was sparse. I got a fajita salad that wasn't great, either. The food was boring and bland -- which is not what one would expect from a "Mexican" restaurant. It was a disappointment for both of us. We did not eat more than a few bites of our meals before paying the bill and leaving. We most likely won't return. read more

Good Mexican food is certainly hard to find in the Bangor area, and sadly this place wasn't able to change my mind. Upon going inside I was shocked to see how many empty tables there were on a Saturday night; neighboring restaurants were already up to 30 min waits for a table. The salsa is pretty good, in fact it was one of only good things I had there. One thing I don't like is that they bring out a large basket of chips with a small portion of salsa and if you want more salsa it's $1.99 per dish. To me that's insane and quite frankly no other Mexican restaurant that I've been to does that. Server was friendly but service was slow- we got our margaritas just as our food was coming out. Margaritas had no alcohol, they're just a cup of sugar. Food was bland and portion size is not worth the price. Miguel's is not somewhere I frequent anyway, maybe once every few years. I have been hesitant to Miguel's for years for really no reason. BOY WAS I FOOLISH. This place was incredible. The chips were fresh and crunchy paired with two varieties of salsa. I went with some girlfriends, one of which is vegan, and they had the best selection for her. Not just a plate of sides or a sad "meat removed" entree, but thoughtful dishes. We got the quesadillas (the special for Tuesdays is that they are half off.) They were tasty and not greasy. Service was friendly which made the experience an overall delight! read more

I'm just going to start this review throwing a little bit of shade: their California Burrito, is NOT A CALIFORNIA BURRITO. Coming from San Diego, CA, which is the birthplace of the CA burrito, I was coming in with a high level of expertise (I literally have eaten a lot of California burritos at many taco shops in my lifetime and I'm not ashamed). I wasn't surprised that it wasn't what it was supposed to be but it's a valiant effort. If it's any consolation, even shops in Los Angeles can't get it right. With that said, if you have never had a true CA burrito, this burrito is still fantastic. The burrito had tons of steak in it, lots of guac, and not a lot of potato or cheese. The steak was cooked to perfection. I guess you can say this is a healthier version of the beloved CA burrito, even though it shouldn't be healthy... My son had the pollo loco quesadilla. I had a slice of that and it was soooo good. It had the right amount of meat, cheese, and black beans. I forgot what my husband had - I was too busy getting over my burrito, but I'm sure it was good. When it comes to their meat, in both the burrito and quesadilla, it's not all diced up in small pieces like you see in most places. They put thicker chunks of meat in their dishes, making the price point worth it. The customer service was top-notch. The ladies serving us, or just coming by to say hi to our baby, were just some of the sweetest people ever. I really appreciate establishments that have a laid-back, personable feel to it. It makes people want to come back when they're made to feel like family. Also, shoutout to the two guys at the bar who were talking about the Clippers v Celtics game. The comments made my night, as I am a huge Kawhi fan and a Clippers supporter. If you're ever in Maine and looking for great food in an awesome atmosphere, this is your place! read more
