The…read moresecond night was 3 star food at best, and we had many of the same items including the steak and a Caesar salad. So I must conclude inconsistency in the kitchen. The outdoor patio and sunset views are unbelievable and perhaps worth 3 star food. However, be prepared for a pretty obnoxious group of other patrons and staff. It's a mess from that perspective. The first night was my birthday and the sunset was one of the longest and most dramatic I've ever seen. I will treasure that memory, but the second night did enough to make it unlikely I'd go back again unless it was the only thing opened.

We had excellent service during the off season month with one server doing every table. To be able…read moreto sit on the patio, enjoy the lake, sunset and great food is a 5-star. Madeline Island is already quaint and intimate yet almost every patron makes small talk in a nice way. We met a cute poodle named Tommy on the patio and the owner allowed me to feed him some of my fabulous pork apple meal. There is a wide variety of food and cocktails. My husband and I split the Caesar salad with chicken (the chicken was not that great so I recommend omitting that) and then he had the pot pie and I had the apple pork with potatoes. Everything was flavored well and felt comforting. For dessert, we split the apple pie. The staff even warmed it up for us. Thank you!!

I came here for a fish fry just after Memorial Day and the outdoor seating weather was perfect for my pup. The patio overlooks Lake Superior, with a few buildings across the street blocking a bit of the view. It's a nice downtown spot so there are plenty of people out and about walking by the patio. I typically prefer a traditional Old Fashioned, but when in super northern Wisconsin, do as they do. I got a Wisconsin Old Fashioned and it was great. I even ordered a second one! The veggie dumpling soup was beyond my expectations -- I would have just eaten a bunch of bowls of that all night if I hadn't been set on fish fry. I got the Lake Superior Whitefish fry (Lake Superior was right across the street, how could I not?), which was just ok. The sides were great - french fries and green beans are a Wisconsin match made in heaven. The fish was alright, a bit fishier than I'm used to but that just might be a Lake Superior whitefish thing? Still, I found about 6 bones in the fish fry and I've never had that issue at a restaurant fish fry before. I usually give a few bites to my dog but was nervous on this one. So, overall a great experience and a fun place to stop by. I'd recommend checking them out.

I wish I remembered the name of our server because she was so attentive while practically running the front of house by herself, I wish I could give her a specific shout out. The restaurant itself is a classic small town tavern with the dark wood bar, comfy booths, and a gorgeous painted tin ceiling. The food was also pretty good - the cheese curds are a MUST get. The rest of the food was slightly too salty and the fish was just a tad dry but the tartar sauce and coleslaw were both to die for and the fries were fantastic. Overall we enjoyed our time here and would definitely go back.
