Went here on a Sunday night, and I'm very happy to say it concluded a great vacation to Bayfield (I know this isn't in Bayfield). Definitely lived up to the expectations! We made reservations in advance, but I feel like on a Sunday night, it's a little easier to get in than the other days. We had a group of 8ish (2 very little and not eating), and they were happy to seat us outside so the little ones could move around and play. Staff was super friendly and happy to explain the menu with best practices of ordering multiple plates for the table to share. Needless to say, we tried a lot of the menu.
Many started out with their seasonal iced tea with chamomile and cedar. People seemed to like it enough. Then came the food, which comes to the table as it's finished in the kitchen. We started with the beets and berries. I have to say, as a person who generally hates beets, this was actually pretty good. I even went back for a second beet piece. We also got the mushrooms Miijim, which was a table favorite. We were saying how they could pretty much be eaten breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The maple was a great addition to a mushroom dish. The stuffed squash was probably the least successful for me, mainly because there was some spice that didn't fully agree with me, but others really enjoyed it. The crisp on the outside of the skin worked well, and it was well balanced. The charcoal pheasant was definitely a dish that could feed a couple of people, as it's half a pheasant. It was very enjoyable with a nice tomato base. We cleaned the bones entirely! The moulard duck breast was by far my favorite dish. It was perfectly tender and almost steak like. I've never had duck prepared this way, and I wish more places would. The sweetness from the berries and squash also played nice with the saltiness of the duck. Finally, we ordered the dessert, which was squash cake with berries. The highlight was finding some grapes in the berry sauce. I'm not talking grocery store grapes, but more wild, off the vine ones that have a distinct more wine like flavor. It was pretty tasty.
This is definitely worth a visit for some fine dining if you're in the area. The only thing that I would note is if you have a lot of allergies to pollens you may have some challenges with the menu. Or just take an allergy pill. read more
