So the wife and I decided to head to Mt. Shasta to see what kind of goodies we could find. As we were driving around up there, we passed Mike & Tony's. Being half Italian, I'm always on the lookout for good Italian food. Since parking is limited, we parked on the side of the building and made our way inside. The moment you walk in, you're immediately hit with a beautiful atmosphere. The authenticity of an Italian family truly makes itself known--it feels like walking into a relative's home. On top of that, there are old photos on the walls that look like true classics. The hostess told us it would be about a 15 to 20 minute wait for a table and offered us seats at the bar if we wanted a drink while we waited. Just as we sat down--barely two minutes later--she came back and said, "We can seat you now." We made our way to the table, and I continued soaking in the atmosphere. About five minutes later, our waitress came over and asked what we'd like to drink. We both ordered ginger ale. Roughly three minutes later, our drinks arrived--and let me tell you, it was some of the best ginger ale we've ever tasted. We placed our order for calamari, followed by our entrées. I went with the spaghetti Bolognese, and my wife ordered a salad with fried ravioli. The calamari came with cocktail sauce and was absolutely delicious. Our entrées came out about 10 minutes later, and let me just say "I've found my favorite Italian restaurant" now. Sure, Olive Garden is fine, but it's not authentic. Great ambiance! It's a Sinatra meet Soprano vibe. The service is so attentive and kind. Both out weigh the lack of flavor in the food. I kept adding salt and pepper to try to bring out any flavor. I liked the creative side of polenta. The chicken marsala had the best flavor. Bravo chef!! read more

The restaurant is styled like an old Italian restaurant. You can tell it's the locals spot. I didn't appreciate the there's no covering over the bathroom window over the parking lot. We had the fried raviolis which was good but it came with a very small dipping sauce which wasn't enough for all the raviolis. My husband had the chicken Parmesan. We were told that it would come with asparagus. Instead, it came with mix undercooked vegetables. I had chicken Marcella, which the server said was one of the top sellers. The sauce was very sweet, chicken was dry, and the vegetables were not edible. I didn't eat much of my food. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay tasted old and I sent it back. The bread was delicious and warm. The chocolate mousse was great and they gave it to us for free since the service was slow due to the restaurant having a special event. We arrived 45 minutes after they opened only to be told at seating that they were out of both steaks on the menu. Our friend was there for the steak and not happy. Cocktails were good. The house bread and clam chowder were the best part of the meal. Stick with the nice warm house bread, skip the garlic bread. I ordered scallops and a few minutes later was told they were now out of scallops. I ordered pasta carbonara as my 2nd choice. It was gummy with chunks of egg white. We were greeted nicely and seated immediately. Loved the ambiance! They have a beautiful full bar. We ordered the large Caesar salad and it came with anchovies on top, nice touch! The Lettuce was fresh, crispy and dressing was very good, I would have like a lemon wedge for some additional acidity. We shared the chicken picatta and it came with yummy penne pasta and steamed vegetables. Pasta was 5 stars! Chicken was a bit tough but had nice flavor and the veggies were a bit undercooked. The dinner rolls that came with dinner were 5 stars-- crispy crust, Soft warm center and delicious flavor. We ordered Mom's cheesecake--OMG!! It was truly the best I've ever had in a restaurant--5+ stars. I'm sorry I didn't get a pic of the cheesecake to post. Friendly waitress and excellent service!! The establishment has Italian family pictures and well it's a restaurant. It's not Michelin rating 5 star but it really was tasty after a long hike and exploration. I've been to Mike & Tony's many times over the past 30 years and have always wanted to return........until this time! My wife and I made reservations for our Anniversary and drove up from the Redding area. We were seated next to a group of 12 men who were loud and foul mouthed, and after 15 minutes of not being able to have our own conversation across the table, asked the waitress to possibly move us to a quieter area in the next room. Bartender " misplaced "our cocktail order and we finally chased down our waitress to let her know that we still didn't have our drink order.We finally received our drink order( we had been seated for 30 minutes!) Waitress informed us the back room was loud also and refused to move our seats.The more the table of 12 men drank the louder they got.The couple behind us, also sitting next to the 12 loud guys, got up and sat outside where it was quieter( it was also 95 degrees!) The menu was not as extensive as in the past, and because of the unexciting pasta menu items I chose the Rib Eye, which was actually very good. After telling some local people about our less than exciting meal at Mike and Tony's we were informed that it had changed hands in the past 6 months and have heard a lot of negative comments about the new ownership. Try the new Espresso Martini with the Stoli. It's delicious! (Legit, it's great.) Loved the Pork Chop too-- juicy and flavorful. On our second night there, tried the Dover Sole-- delicate and seasoned just right. Also, i'm not a fan of oysters or calamari, but once again I was surprised by how they nailed it. Even the breaded and fried lemon was tasty. If you're paying to dine out, Mike & Tony's will do you right, and it never feels like a gamble eating here. For families, I'd recommend the rear of the restaurant away from the bar, just like anywhere else. Less noise and language, especially as the evening goes on. We ended up at Mike & Tony's on back-to-back nights while in town for ski races. First night my wife and I ate alone, and the second we were taken in by some other ski coaches. The inside is a definite throwback. The food is what I'd classify as traditional Italian-American fare, which I'm a fan of. We had wine, cocktails, fried raviolis, picatta, marsala and chicken parm. (Hey, we were there 2 nights!) We had a great time, left full and enjoyed our different meals. Mount Shasta has a number of choices for food, but I recommend you try this one. read more

Locals seemed weary but said the spots gone thru several change of hands over the years and that it was once coveted spot but not so much in the recent years? All I can say upon my first visit is that the Pasta Carbonara was truly masterful. I found The dish to be absolutely delicious. Pasta was proper al dente. My only criticism is I prefer a heavier cream sauce speaking texturally. The half ceaser salad is large. Croutons and garlic bread was honestly a disappointment to me. I need to share my family's recipe seriously! Otherwise semi casual atmosphere with great feel, large open bar perfect for a cocktail before or after your meal. My experience with service was fine... young waitress Natalia was exceptional in her effort to provide excellent service and was super friendly! Wish her luck in college! As a long time resident of Mt. Shasta. It is nice to see MIke and Tony's still remains a fixture in our community as the oldest restaurant in town with that old itally feel and warm ambiance. Under the new ownership you see a few new faces and some small menu changes, but it seems like they all work well together and enjoy what they do. Sheila the bartender, is great, and makes a great martini. Lorraine is still there on Friday and Saturdays! The rest of the staff you can tell are working hard to create a positive experience. Even amidst the labor shortage at nearly every restaurant in town they do their best to get the food out to you as soon as possible and with a smile. ​Be patient as sometimes there is a wait but Sheila is happy to fill that time with a great cocktail and conversation at the bar or at your table. The red Naugahyde booths, red velvet brocade ceiling, the beautiful photos of days gone by, and Frank crooning softly in the background created elegance and appeal. Our server, Emily, was delightful. We ordered a bottle of wine, a Chianti called Opici. We highly recommend this selection! I won't say why - if you wanna know, you gotta go! We ordered the deep fried artichoke hearts. These battered treats were served with two delicious house made sauces. There was A LOT of batter - I'm sure there were artichoke hearts in there somewhere. LOL. Seriously though, they were prepared perfectly. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin Marsala and I had the chicken piccata. Each entree was served with your choice of pasta and sauce and sautéed veggies - asparagus, in our case. I had spaghetti with the olive oil, garlic, chili flake, and parsley. Hubby had gf penne with meat sauce. The meal was divine. One of the best parts of the meal was the pleasant chatter between the staff members. They obviously enjoyed their work, and it showed. The service was excellent, food was great and just how I always remembered it, and the homemade desserts were incredible! I have been going to Mike and Tony's for decades as I live here. Always great. New owners several months ago. I had made a reservation for 7 on July 5th and asked for a specific table. The table was not ready when we arrived. We had to sit somewhere else. The fried ravioli, salad and calamari were very good. Every dinner ordered was terrible. Also, we were not even served until after 9pm. Our waitress, who was excellent, told us they ran out of vegetables and one of the cooks walked out. All dinners were really poor. This was the worst customer service. I made a reservation a month ago but they lost it. But they wouldn't seat us because they were only taking people with reservations. When I complained they said they could seat us in an hour, which would have been 8:30 so we left. The manager never even talked to us. He or she used the hostess. Total disappointment. read more

During my visit to Mt Shasta, this was one of the few restaurants recommended over and over again. Not too many places to eat here in this small town, but I was very grateful to find me some pasta! I do recognize that our food came out before yours but then again we ordered pasta, which is simple and easy to make compared to maybe your chicken or steak dinners. I found something that's basically non-existent in Portland or San Francisco: value. Meaning, portion size, what's included and taste all roll up into a very satisfactory price. We opted for their best seller, Chicken Parmesan. It had home cooked taste with a good balance of gooey cheese and sauce. Opt for the $5 add-on and you get a generous Caesar salad, better than okay pasta, and excellent Minestrone soup. We added a two meatballs and garlic toast side for $5 which was filling. This isn't high-end Italian, kinda a step-up from red table cloth style places. The Maple Whiskey cocktail was smooth and satisfying. If all you want is the old time ambience of an Italian family restaurant, this is your place. If you care about the flavor of the food, not so much. Overpriced and very standard Italian fare without anything tasting like much.
