This place definitely leans into the dive bar vibe, but in a slightly more upscale way than most. It still feels like a classic dive at its core, just a little more polished. That said, the atmosphere felt a bit standoffish when we walked in. It had that energy where regulars clearly run the place and aren't thrilled about newcomers, which made it a little uncomfortable. Getting a drink was surprisingly difficult. We managed to get one, but it took way more effort than it should have, and we ended up leaving shortly after. I will say, the presentation of the hot dog was hilarious and easily the highlight of the visit. You can tell it's something they're known for and lean into. Unfortunately, the hot dog itself was pretty average and didn't live up to the fun presentation. Mike's has been on my Dallas bucket list for a while and I finally got the chance to stop in! My partner and I decided to stop in for a night cap while celebrating our 5th anni and omg! Long story short, we will def be returning! The vibes in short give straight out a movie. They not only had a menu with bar bites, but their cocktail menu was great! I went ahead and tried their Mike's martini, because why not!? And my boyfriend appreciated their bottled beers given the last place we were at didn't serve any! The service also was amazing! Mike's Gemini Twin is a gem of a dive bar located in the Cedars neighborhood just outside downtown Dallas. They pour fantastic classic cocktails, serve delicious gourmet hot dogs at the bar, and always make you feel like you're at home at a friend's really cool bar. Mike's is owned by the same family that owns Bowen House, Las Palmas, St. Martin's, and Urbano Cafe. They know what they're doing and quality is their secret. Libations, food and the best service anywhere is how they keep everyone coming back. Complex and creative recipes can be found at Bowen House, but Mike's is a more casual concept that specializes in the classics. I had two of my favorites, a Godfather (photo #1) and Hemingway (photo #4). The Godfather is simply Scotch and Amaretto and a Hemingway is Cognac and Benedictine. We appreciate having a fun, kitschy bar that creates one of the most eclectic vibes in town. It's rare for Dallas, but we're thankful for great owners like Pasha Heidari and his family for creating authentic spaces with high quality service. So, I was following my GPS and ended way out of where I thought I was going. This bar just happened to be opened, and as I told the young lady that was behind the bar, she was like an oasis in the middle of the desert. The service was lovely. The drinks were fine and the water was plentiful for my walking the wrong way in the Dallas hot sun. Never have I ever been acknowledged as quickly as I was the time I walked in carrying my dog. I barely walked around the corner from the entrance and was immediately told by the manager "I don't allow dogs here" no hi how are you I'm sorry we don't allow dogs (and we're pretty regular to this establishment, I've sat at the bar longer when only 2 other people are present without a hello) I kindly said "I get it, is it ok if we go to the patio?" a quick response of "No, no dogs allowed" was it. I am still shocked and taken back since I've taken my dogs to Bowen House and Las Palmas multiple times in the past without any issue. Maybe the fact that we just left a four course meal from a restaurant nearby where my dog sat next to me all night also makes this a bit more intense. Feeling a little confused as to why it's ok for my dog to join me at the nicer establishments but not the "dive bar". Maybe aim for consistency across all establishments rather than leaving it to the managers discretion. read more

Great off-the-path dive bar for your night out! It's located in the Cedars and doesn't have a lot of parking around it, so if you can take a Lyft or Uber there I would definitely suggest it. They have a long bar you can sit at or cool half-circle booths on the other side. There's pool and darts for those of you who want an activity to accompany your drink. The bartender was awesome the night we went, very attentive with filling our group's water glasses and helping us choose drinks. I was being indecisive and asked him for something refreshing and he suggested a gimlet, which I hadn't tried before. It truly was refreshing and definitely well-made, at a very good price. This is my new favorite bar in town. The staff and management are incredibly friendly, the manager Chase is always eager to make sure that you're having a good time, whether you are just stopping by for one of their delicious martinis/ cocktails after work or you are meeting a group of friends for a game of pool or poker. They have the place stocked with games and decks of cards and a jukebox. It has a very historic old speakeasy feel but also somehow, a simple dive. They salvaged the bar from Idle Rich so there is a lot of Dallas history in this place, which they take very seriously. You really need to come and have a drink at this place if you haven't already. 'Twas a hot summer's night. We were in search of an o-be-joyful in hopes of becoming inebriated. We found ourselves on an empty street just outside the big city, tumbleweeds afloat. Just when we thought all hope was lost, a distant whinny sounded. A man in an ivory hat a top his powerful steed came into view. The horse reared back on its hind legs; the man still as graceful as ever. He invited us in and promised us a night full of billiards, cocktails, and dancing. We instantly knew this was the place. We parked the car and walked inside. The amethyst booths were worn to perfection, the smell of hotdogs hung in the air, the sound of pool balls being struck and drunken fools making friends was abundant. As we bellied up to the bar we're greeted by a Viking god with an eye patch and a beautiful tattooed goddess in all black. The images on her expensive skin danced under the melancholy lighting. This was absolutely the place. In conclusion Mikes was an ethereal, surreal, and humbling experience. After the initial taste of well agave and the sounds of neon moon hit our palette, we knew that we were home. 10/10 would recommend read more
