Came here with a friend wanting to try a new speakeasy. It's definitely speakeasy, it's inside the bridal shop. It's pretty small inside but they have a lot of options for drinks. Like lost speakeasy's they have a variety of different drink options you can choose from. The empanadas were amazing and different from original ones. Definitely worth a try

I forgot the bartender and the bar manager's name.. but they were super hospitable and very welcoming. So to who ever worked Sunday late afternoon cheers to y'all! My friend and I stumbled upon this place after eating at their restaurant next door El Come Tacos. We wanted something a bit stronger and googled for bars near us not knowing that this beautiful Mezcal speakeasy was right next door! I haven't really been a fan of tequila but The bartender made me a drink called a "Vampiro" which changed my mind. The drinks were fantastic and their choice of glassware/clay drink sets are amazing. The michelada has to be in my top 5 ever, and the vampiro was something I never thought I would like. It's my new favorite drink right after a good espresso martini.

two off-menu drinks by Saul...one I can't remember (but tasty), and the other a white mescal negroni (also tasty)

For about a year (since my last review), La Viuda was OUR spot. We went all the time. They knew us by name. We never ordered off the menu -- just asked Hugo to "make us something," and it was always excellent, whether it was a spirit-forward sipper or something herbal and refreshing. He quickly learned our preferences and knocked it out of the park every time. Eventually, it got to the point where Hugo and Eduardo never let us leave the place without a round of free mezcal shots. It truly felt like home, and not just because it's walking distance for us. We loved this place, our little neighborhood bar where, yes, everybody knows your name. Things changed last fall, when Hugo suddenly left. By all accounts, it was his choice to leave. Absolutely heartbreaking. Things haven't quite been the same since he left (and maybe that's why he left...). Obviously, there's the factor of not being able to just walk in and tell him to make us whatever drinks he felt like making. But there's been a lot of staff turnover. They don't know us when we walk in the door. Also, if we don't get there early enough, it's often too crowded to stay...which is GREAT for La Viuda, but kinda sad for us. The last time we were there, we made a point of getting there very early and were able to get seats at the bar (our favorite -- we love chatting with the bartenders to learn more about the drinks they're making, the ingredients they're using, and also just who they are as people). By getting bar seats this time, we met Saul (pronounced Saoul), who told us he was one of the original bartenders there and is now back as manager. He made us some great on-menu drinks and some great off-menu drinks. We enjoyed chatting with him. So, maybe this is a new beginning for us and La Viuda...we'll see. For now, it's down a star (literally because it's just missing Hugo's star power...ha, see what I did there), but I'm hopeful.

Love this little speakeasy bar-hidden gem in Dallas for sure! Their logo is outside and what looks like a bridal boutique. Once you walk in it has a super chill vibe with a cool looking bar display. Some high tables and seats at the bar. Tiny but decent size. They also have a outdoor patio in the back which is nice. They offer food from the el come taco (right next door) I definitely recommend, their tacos are legit! I ordered the viuda negra margarita and my husband got the si güey (seasonal cocktail) both were delicious. Love how they give you your tab. Super cool lol All in all I give them a 5/5. Will definitely be coming back!

Checked this one place out with my fiancé. Got there early and got seats in the corner. We didn't get anything to eat since we just had dinner. The wooden bench we sat on wasn't comfortable. The first drink that I had (lite up with cucumbers) was yummy and refreshing. The second drink I had, Chapurrado wasn't good and was in lame plastic cup. I wish we had checked out the patio.

The first time I visited this speakeasy, I had a great time. The Labios Calientes was a great spicy margarita and their Mezcal Negroni was good too. I recently visited again and I did not like their Verano 2023 drinks. The majority of the menu is sweet instead of spirit forward. I ordered the Cien Años because the waitress said it closely resembled a Manhattan, but it was also sweet. I had high hopes for the Chamoy Manhattan, but it felt more like an alcoholic mangonada. I wouldn't call it a Manhattan. I really liked this place so maybe i'll visit again when they rotate their menu or stick to their classics. logistics: We came around 7:30 pm on st. patrick's day. The bar was full but the tables were majority open. Most of the people were eating as well as drinking. There's parking in front and I haven't had any trouble finding a spot. Lots of cars going in and out so just be patient.

Amazing atmosphere and fabulous drinks! A fun and really cool speakeasy in East Dallas. Definitely check it out. And get the drink with the glow light in it. Can't remember the name, but it's delicious and super cool!

An adorable speakeasy! A little hole in the wall restaurant with great atmosphere, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Not a ton of seating room but getting their earlier enough it wasn't a problem.

One of the most underrated Mexican dishes: The almighty Pambazo (with a beer and a mezcal on the side).

I previously wrote a review for what I thought was "El Come Taco"...I was thinking that it was the same business since they are interconnected by a little hallway between the kitchen of El Come Taco and the restrooms. We'll, it is the same ownership but they are different businesses (again, although they are interconnected). We'll, my review specifically for La Viuda Negra is pretty much the same one as my first one: WHAT A GREAT PLACE! It is a tiny little bar with dimmed lights and a very good selection of mezcales, Mexican beers and even pulque (distilled pulque is known as tequila, pulque could be translated as agave beer and it is really good!). They have a good menu with really good Mexican dishes and you can also order from the taqueria (you order there, they'll bring you the food to the bar). The service is very good, all the staff is very friendly and ready to answer to all your questions (if you are not Mexican, I'm sure you'll have a few questions). The atmosphere is very nice and relaxing... We definitely need more places like this!

Great new speakeasy with tequila-bar flavor. The ceramic water mugs and carafe were nice touches of Mexico! Not exactly a mixology bar, but the bartender is super friendly and accommodating within the limits of his inventory. To wit; great selection of clear liquors like mezcal and vodkas - but no absinthe or infused ETOH, and very limited whiskeys. They do have a small tincture of absinthe flavor, but don't expect a mojito or any muddled drinks. Do, however, expect great service with what he has. Speakeasy entrance & ambiance: 5/5 Staff service and attitude: 5/5 Onsite parking: 5/5 Bar stock: 4/5 We liked it a lot, and I would go 4.5 stars if I could. We'll be back!

One of my fave bars in Dallas - great speakeasy, well-crafted drinks, and insanely good tacos connected next door. Good specials - ask the bartenders for recs, they have not steered me wrong yet, and they will make you something fun off-menu if you tell them what you like! It's a really cool spot, perfect for a date.

After requesting a water to go, we were unexpectedly accused by the bartender, Jake, of placing an alcoholic beverage into a to-go cup. The accusation was embarrassing, unnecessary, and made even more uncomfortable by the fact that it was made publicly and without cause. To be fair, the manager on staff handled our complaint regarding Jake professionally and with care, which we truly appreciated. However, the situation itself left a lasting negative impression. As professionals in the criminal law and medical fields, we value professionalism, discretion, and respectful communication. Being wrongly accused in that manner was disappointing and frankly humiliating. Because of this experience, we will not be returning anytime soon, despite what had otherwise been an enjoyable evening.

No…read morereservation...just a walk party of 6 and they had a table for us...as long as we could be out by a certain time...about an hour and a half after we walked in. We were there to eat so if they were going to wine and dine us in that amount of time, we were there for it!! Everything was delicious, everyone enjoyed their meals and drinks and we are so glad we found this location and made it happen! I was looking forward to dinner here the entire day and it was worth it!! We had the queso blanco...it's got a kick...worth it! My wagyu fajitas were perfectly cooked medium rare and soooo flavorful!! I was my dessert in my pjs back at the hotel...the sopapilla cheesecake and ice cream held up perfectly and was everything I wanted it to be!! It's a dark atmosphere in the bar area, but the vibes were so cool. It wasn't too loud to where people were having to scream to converse...but it was not intimate where you could talk across the table softly with the other person hearing. We are still talking about Las Palmas days later and can't wait until we are back in Dallas to bring more of our group here to enjoy delicious food and great service!!

A few important notes though: this place is SUPER loud, especially upstairs, so if you are trying to take your older parents somewhere for a nice dinner where you can actually catch up and have a conversation, this might not be the spot. Also, avoid the upstairs dining room if anyone has mobility issues. The stairs are a little sketchy in that dark space because you basically have to TRUST there is another stair step in front of you even though you can't see it. And a heads up, do not wander into the wrong bathroom upstairs like my husband did because the "men's" and "ladies" signs upstairs are also nearly impossible to read in the dark! But honestly, those are really my only complaints... The service and food were both very good. We had a couple of ordering fumbles. We got the regular queso, and then immediately watched another table get the tableside flaming queso and we were seriously bummed. Like, really bummed. That is definitely what I will be ordering next time. The chips and smoky salsa were excellent!! - and I always appreciate when everyone gets their own little portion of salsa so everyone can double dip without feeling like a heathen. I ordered the wagyu fajitas (the half portion), and it was still easily enough food for two people. I will say the meat was more like a filet mignon texture and less like the flavorful fajita meat I was expecting. My friend's pork fajitas were actually much better and had more flavor. When the manager stopped by to check on us, I had to announce my own birthday because apparently my friends were not going to help me out with that (some friends, huh?). They brought out a complimentary sopapilla cheesecake with a candle, which was a very nice touch. All in all, I loved the place and totally understand the hype. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time. There is valet parking, but we found easy parking across the street. I cannot wait to come back and try that flaming queso!
