I went to Mike's today at 12:15pm, Tuesday, March 24, for myself and partner. I picked up a full turkey grinder for my spouse, and all was fine. I picked up a grilled veggie wrap with cheese for myself. Upon arriving home, I found I had fried lettuce with a piece of cheese on a roll. It was horrible!! Soo here's the thing. I live in the area but I'm not from here.. where I'm from most every deli sells their meats by the lb as well. So, I need some deli meats as I'm heading home and I don't wanna always spend my money at a big box store. So I remember this place and do a detour, go in w my kid and I dont even look at the board, the young guy asks what I want and I start rattling off 1/4lb this, 2/3 lb that and another 1/3 lb something else. Without batting and eye, the kids says: "ya sure, no problem" then he starts cuttin and weighing and cutting and weighing and asking the other workers, "do you know the price for this and that...." then I realize, it's sandwich shop... they don't sell by the lbs. Now I feel like an ass, I threw the dude for a loop.. they get me all packaged up, ringed up and I'm out the door. So I go look at the online menu and for sure they don't have any by the lbs deli meat. It's just Sandwiches.. So here's my takeaway. I obviously asked for something out of the ordinary and at no time did he say anything like "no or I'm not sure or lemme ask.." this dude took care of me to the best of his ability. He made that sale, took care of his unknown off the street customer. To say I'd recommend them or that I'll be back is an understatement. I'll be spending my money here for sure. This place was recommended by a friend sho we tried them out. Found ot they have been there 30 years. Impressed. The grinders were good but not great. Tried a regular meatball and a regular sausage and peppers. While they actually make their owns meatballs in house this was just ok. Nothing to write home about. My friend felt the same way but he really liked the sausage and pepper grinder. It was not bad it didn't wow me. The sandwich was great. I went on a Saturday, after a softball game let out. There was a long line but service went quickly.

Ordered the Steak and cheese and it looked and tasted like they used frozen steak ums. For the price they charge I was expecting real steak. Will not be back due to the quality, lack of taste and the high price tag. Sorry Mikes but it's time you step up your game. Kim the steak was in a rectangular form. I've had them before and enjoyed them but today was very different. I did order the giant that was around 16.95 but with the amount of steak that was on it it wasn't worth the 9.99 for the smaller one. Hopefully it was just a bad day. read more

I would have originally said I'm bias calling Mikee's the best sandwich shop in the world, having grown up in Southbury. But I moved out of Connectict almost 10 years ago and have since eaten sandwiches all over the country and world and still declare this the best sub on earth! Nothing beats their delicious meats and cheeses thinly sliced right in front of you and their fresh crunchy veggies assembled onto their chewy bread. I love to get turkey and provolone and load up with all their extra veggie options including green peppers, sweet peppers and sometimes the hot peppers if I'm looking for a kick. A family favorite of ours and a pro tip is to ask for the "board lettuce" which they'll take from a pile of all the toppings that have spilled out of the previous sandwiches they've made, so you get some extra flavorful and seasoned lettuce. On top of the amazing subs, the staff is always friendly, some of the same faces have been working their for years. They even offer a two for 1 specials on Tuesdays! Anytime I am remotely close to Connecticut I make it a point to drive out of my way just to get a sub here. I keep coming back and its still the best sub I've ever had! read more

I love the smell of the vinegar marinade when you walk in. It makes whatever choice you make a good one. If you are in the area and in need of a sandwich, definitely worth the stop. The sandwiches are large and addicting. They can be a little messy, so make sure to have some extra napkins and don't plan on eating it while driving. Great service, great food made fresh when ordered. About a mile off of I-84 , so it is very convenient. After eating several bites of my Italian Sub, I am not sure if I have ever had a better cold sub. The bread must be baked daily, and I saw them slice every ingredient fresh in front of me as soon as I ordered it. My awesome husband picked up a chicken steak terryaki grinder for me today for my birthday. He ordered it as they prepare it- so it was missing some of my personal add-one like cheese and hot peppers- but no worries at all! The sandwich was awesome and I dove into it as Joey tribiani gets in on a meatball sub. It was delicious!! We ordered through DoorDash. It was so sad. The food has gone so downhill. The appetizer sampler was terrible. The wings were supposed to be buffalo wings. They came plain and dry. Everything was dry and overcooked. It was all frozen food heated. The burgers used to be sooooo good. Our burgers were mediocre at best. The French fries didn't have any taste to them. Best subs! A true Italian deli with delicious sub rolls, Quality imported meats and cheeses and lots of delicious toppings. We were passing through and found it on yelp. Hello. I have been going to this place for the past 7-8 years and it has always produced a superb sandwich ! Today however the kids were running the store and the portion size shrunk ! I phoned ahead and ordered my usual Regular #10 .... the line was out the door today when I arrived ..... need to fix that with a separate line for pickup vs people who are are placing orders !! Why should I call ahead and then wait with everyone else ?? I am exposed then just as much as everyone else waiting ! Anyways, my regular was the size of a mini ..... No good ! .... the guy in front of me had to place an order .... the cashier was not doing anything at the time so I said that maybe I could go ahead since I phoned in my order ! The "slicer of meat " said that there was only one line ..... ok back in line I went and waited while the guy placed his order , decided what chips to buy , what drinks to get .... OMG. I could have been in and out of there 10-15 mins faster if there was a separate line ! Sorry Boss. If you don't know it's broken ....you can't fix it !! As part of our what makes Connecticut Connecticut food tour, we picked up the obligatory grinder for lunch. This place is in a new building, so one might think that perhaps it won't be great. Not so. These blisteringly fast grinder-istas put together our sandwiches in no time. We got the #7 and #9 (both turkey variations), the Italian (soooooooooooooo good) and a couple of meatball (both regular GIANT - split between our sons). Warm and gooey. First - get rid of the pansy hours, everyone else has returned to normal. I can't count the times I have shown up 5 minutes too late. Nardelli's is open past 6. Second - your customers are why you are in business. I had to make a quick switch of potato chips because my daughter didn't like what I picked for her. To go in and want to quickly buy another bag of chips - I was made to feel awkward and unwelcome that I had "come back from inside" and had cut people, The other customer saw what I did and didn't feel like that and I had to say "shouldn't take an act of Congress to buy chips" and it took 3 people to figure out how to do a $2.15 order. Its really too bad that the people who run this place dont have a friendly personality. Definitely not the type of people who like dealing with the general public. I felt like we were bothering them for placing an order. Spending $50 on two drinks, a bag of chips, 2 giant sandwiches and one regular one, is steep and would have been more palatable if the people were actually nice. The guy who made the sandwich was not pleasant, the young man who "dressed" the sandwiches was ok and the kid ringing me out needs to stick to sweeping and not dealing with people. Crappy attitude. I also didnt appreciate the fact how cheap they were on the vegtables. If you have a 10" sandwich and you have only two 2.5" round slices of tomato on it, what happens to the other 5 inches? Just a lack of caring in creating the perfect sandwich. Also, when you request provolone, and you get American cheese., its very disappointing. You may say, "then why didnt you go back and complain?" For one, i got these sandwiches for my guys on the job. didnt have time to go back. And there attitude was not very welcoming when I were there, I could only imagine what would happen if I went back to complain. Ordered a regular size Turkey Breast Sub which includes lettuce, tomatoes & onions. A mini is about 4", an extra large is about 10" for $14.99 ! I unwrapped the sub when I got home it was only 7" long with only 2 SLICES of turkey, couldn't even see the turkey inside as it was loaded with lettuce and they forgot to add the tomatoes. So basically for $9 you get a "lettuce " sub. Terrible value for your money. It's been a long time since I ordered a sub from here and will be the last. read more
