I'm writing this review on behalf of my husband. He vowed to never return to the Southbury nardellis after receiving an awful Italian combo. He said- and I quote- I threw out the second half because it was like eating days old bread with a slice of thick breakfast ham steak on it (it was an Italian combo). My husband eats blindly- so for a sandwich to stop Him eating to take note of how BAD it is- well, it's worth Yelping to save others from a similar experience. They also don't understand what "extra mayonnaise" meant and he had to repeat it several times when getting his sandwich prepared. ordered a whole chicken salad grinder at 12: 30 pm for pick up at 3:30pm. Got there at 3pm and it was already made made. Got home and the chicken salad was extremely dry, no mayo nor salt and pepper. Lettuce was wilted and not tasty. Prior to this also ordered a whole chicken salad grinder when I got home and opened the package it was a chicken cutlet grinder not a chicken salad grinder. Great place to eat not far off the highway. They got me with the sign while I was traveling past. The grilled chicken balsamic was a great healthy alternative to fast food. What happened to this place? I ordered a half roast beef grinder. The meat was not just overcooked, but completely tasteless. The horseradish mayo was not remotely horseradish. Even with tons of salt and pepper it was unsalvageable. I tossed it. And it was wildly overpriced. All i ordered was the half sandwich. $11. Used to enjoy stopping in but will never go there again. Ok let's be honest... this place is not good and completely overpriced! Let's start with nothing is fresh....everything is microwaved frozen stuff. For example the chicken is so premade it might as well say frozen Tyson on the glass case. The dressing they have for salads and sandwiches are in little packages and they are expired! On our way home from Massachusetts (June 18th 2019), we stopped for lunch and found this place. DH and I shared a chicken parm grinder. We could have easily shared just one half of a sandwich. It was huge!! And tasty. We bought a cannoli for the ride home. I do recommend that cannoli's be filled at the time of ordering, as it was on the stale side. Overall, a good place for lunch. I have never been thrilled with Nardelli's subs but I was really hungry at 8pm last night so I drove by on my way home from work and ordered an Eggplant Parm sub. First off, when I unwrapped it the bottom of the bread was burnt. I figured no big deal, I don't need all that bread anyway. Then I took a bite of the sub and tasted cheese and bread, NO EGGPLANT. At this point, I opened the sub and began searching for any sign of eggplant. There was NO EGGPLANT. Instead there was some sort of cornbread concoction, some cheese and a bit of marinara sauce. I wound up throwing a $15 sub in the trash. Disappointed and disgusted. I have had exceptionally better Italian food when I lived in Dallas than I have had at Nardelli's. read more

There is limited seating inside but it was such a nice day we sat at the outdoor tables. These are mammoth sandwiches so I opted for the 1/2 which was enough. There used to be a little grinder shop where I lived in Stratford. It's no longer there, but I remember the taste of the food, and have tried to find it duplicated elsewhere. Nardelli's is the place that recreated the taste I remember. My favorite is the Italian Combo - it has to have everything and hot sauce. I've tried a few other sandwiches, but that's the one I keep going back to. I always get a whole one, intending to eat half, and save the rest for lunch the next day, but that has yet to happen. This Nardelli's has gone down hill significantly! I'm not sure if there are new owners or what happened but our visit today was disturbing. My husband order a chicken cutlet sandwich that was messy, rubbery and missing cheese. When he opened it the sandwich wasn't even cut through the bread. It was just thrown together and falling apart everywhere. I had an italian combo and the hard roll was so hard it actually hurt my mouth to eat. I don't even understand how the sandwiches were served this way. We will never go back now especially if this is the quality we will be getting. read more

I've been here twice now. I see their advertisements on occasion on local TV, and as I had to be in this area recently I gave them a second chance. Their sandwiches are huge. ....and that's about it for positive things to say. Their sandwiches are mediocre at best. Their choice of toppings were extremely limited in comparison to a Subway, or even a Big Y, and they were out of Italian dressing. (really?) The chicken cutlet I ordered had the consistency of processed/reconstituted chicken paste, much like a McD nugget, and the bread was bland. Again, Big Y has multiple choices of bread, and Subway is famous for it's wide variety of bread options. Much better options for less money. So, all this place seems to have is an old and outdated local history, and some aging fans. read more

I walked into Nardellis in Southbury last night to place an order. I saw many people being helped by two individuals, Madeleine who waited on me and John who was making sandwiches. When it was my turn Madeleine was apologetic for the wait. She explained that someone had called out sick and they were very short staffed. Those two individuals were working under pressure and did an incredible job. They were very patient, kind and attentive to every single patron they helped. It was impressive to watch as a customer. I was looking for spinach bread and did not see any. Madeleine offered to go in back to see if they had more and they did. I left and on my way to Hartford I discovered that I received broccoli bread in error. I called and explained that there was a mixup. Madeleine immediately and without hesitation took responsibility for the error. She wanted to make my experience right. She offered to give me the correct bread but since I do not live in the area I asked for a refund and she did it without hesitation. Great customer service! The next time I am in the area I will be stopping there to purchase a sandwich. read more

My husband and I decided to try this location again. We got sandwiches here a few years ago and they were ok. We placed an order over the phone because the online ordering is just a nightmare. My husband and I ordered three sandwiches total. He was very clear with his order of TWO wraps with turkey lettuce, onion, and hot peppers. He repeated several times that He wanted two of wraps with the same things on them. He then proceeded to tell the young girl on the phone my order. After she took the order he repeated everything back to her and that there were THREE wraps total. Go figure he shows up and there are only two wraps. One turkey wrap and my chipotle chicken. He paid and left. It wasn't really worth waiting for his second sandwich when he was very clear with her in the beginning. He actually stopped off at subway to get another sandwich. Finally home, my wrap was ok. There was barely any lettuce on mine. All of the toppings were at the ends of the wrap so you had bites of dry chicken breast and at the end a few bites of just sauce and olives and maybe lettuce? I honestly couldn't find but 1 shred of lettuce. My husbands wrap had no lettuce, a tiny bit of onion and banana peppers not hot peppers. He actually said the Subway sandwich was better. Nothing special I don't get what all the hype is about. I ordered an Italian combo and the cold cuts they use are super salty and of low quality. While I appreciate the people from nardelli's responding to my review it still doesn't change the fact that I was less than impressed and the thought of mayonnaise and hot sauce on an Italian combo sounds like an "agita" special....... If I wanted the sandwich that way then that's the way I would've ordered it in the first place. Whenever I order an Italian combo the only condiment I add is balsamic vinegar. What's the point of adding mayo, hot sauce and diced and marinated vegetables? To me it sounds like all that stuff is trying to mask something? Everything at nardelli's is pre cooked and left in a cooler until it's ordered and then tossed in a microwave to be reheated? I don't know but that's not my idea of "quality ingredients" or a "wonderful product". Arrivederci nardelli's!! read more
