Mike's barber shop is great! Mike and his wife are great. His barbers are great! I''ve been a customer at their shop for over 15 years. Unfortunately, on my last visit, the price of my haircut increased from $15 to $20. that's a 33% increase in the price of my haircut. While I understand the current economy and inflation, I get a # 2 buzz / fade which is pretty rudimentary. As such, I've decided to cut my hair myself, which has worked out well for me. I am so disappointed in this place have been going there for years. Show up this morning owners tell me there are two before me I am can I run to the auto store a block away they say sure. I go come back 10 minutes later and they tell me there are 3 in front of me. Just not the way to do business and the fact I'll never go back they could care less it's like a factory there. Like I said very disappointed you think your patronage means something. I always tip well have never had an issue obviously doesn't mean anything. read more

This was my first trim since moving to Staten Island and I'm glad I saw Mike's as a 5 Star review. GREAT atmosphere, a lively variety of all ages, and DAMN if David my barber wasn't the real life Edward Scissor Hands. David was part robotic machine, driving forward with amazing precision and pace, while he displayed a sense of showmanship and flair that made me feel that a true artist was in the zone. I just moved to Great Kills, and that was my first visit to this shop. When I came in, the owner grabbed me from the line, put me in a seat and started haircut. Next second he asked who am I and what I'm doing for living. When I said that I'm an engineer, he told me that I'm barely covering my bills, and lost interest in cutting my hair. It seems like when he sees new faces, he is trying to find business people to invest in his struggling business. If you don't want your financials to be discussed by the barber, do not visit this shop. Instead of continuously doing my haircut, he was shaking hands with other people, went out to talk to others. When his friends entered the store, he went to the front to meet and greet them. He recalled about me once in a while, so my haircut took twice longer than it normally would. In a process he was tilting and pushing my head with an excessive force that I felt beaten :). Down the line, the haircut turned out to be awful too. Well, if barber does not pay attention to what he is doing, it's expected. read more

Mikes is a top notch - full service barber shop. Mike and Ada run and outstanding efficient shop without sacrificing great service. The shop is spotless and Mike seems to know everyone's name when they walk in. I think I've tried every barber and honestly they are all good - would recommend David, Gary and Oksana. This place is great. Had been looking for a new barber and found one here. Not many do the straight razor shaves anymore but this is one of those places. Mike the owner is a great guy in the first chair by the door. I've been using Boris down the end on the left. Since I'm pretty much bald on the very top I just have the head totally shaved. That plus the regular face shave I come out of here fresh and definitely on point ! Can do all your manscaping needs here if need be, they offer waxing, nails and some other services. read more

Hours aren't accurate and no parking. Finally got to the door and they said they were closing (6pm vice 7pm).

I hated that place. I didnt even have the time to say hello, the front guy grabbed me by my arm and walked me on the other side of the salon. He was forcing me to sit and have a shampoo, he did not even give me a chance to explain him why I was here.. I pulled his hand off, told him i was just here to refresh the sides, no shampoo needed (My hair was clean on top of that).. Then this Old old school lady came to me, she barely spoke english. She too was very pushy about the shampoo (they probably charge you and extra $10-15 I guess) I said no, and she got annoyed... She was talking to herself i could not here it.... I finally sat on the chair, was ready get the sides cut. Same thing again she could not understand I didnt want to cut the top of my hair.. I had to tell her 5 times to just do the sides... She finally cut only the sides, did not a good job, not a bad job.. By this I mean that my wife could have done the same.. I ran out as fast as possible... Paid $15 which was is not expensive, but still too much for that kind of experience.. I didnt want to be an asshole and gave the girl $2-3 tips.. I honestly almost regret afterword .. This place is absolutely not a barbershop.. Its an old nasty salon, with rusted tools, and old (bad) school hair stylists .. no I cant even use the word Stylist. read more
