Came in on a Saturday morning (before 10) and no wait! Super cute, quaint diner that dishes out classic breakfast dishes. Got the 2 eggs with pork sausage and cheese grits - pork sausage was fantastic, eggs, toast & cheese grits were good too! Eggs benedict was alright - wouldn't get it again. Unlimited coffee refills, but the coffee is pretty bland. The breakfast isn't crazy good or anything, but it will satisfy your breakfast / diner cravings. Would come again!

This place is just an unbelievable under the radar gem that I feel privileged to have unearthed upon moving to this neighborhood. Just a classic, old school NY diner specializing in breakfast (eggs, omelettes, pancakes), burgers, club sandwiches, cheap, effective coffee and the like. All with brisk, effective but polite service that will get you out of there promptly on a busy weekend or let you linger over coffee refills on a quiet weekday. I mean, don't take it from me--if you've read Patti Smith's incredible memoir, Just Kids, she talks of living down the clock in the 60s, living off of a diner, an art store and a phone book down the block. Reader, the only thing no longer here is the phone booth. In a city renowned for its impermanence, Mike's proudly, deservedly remains. In a borough and world where other old diners like Tom's have deserved renown but endless lines, hype, and modern prices and feel, this gem legitimately feels like stepping back in time 60+ years. I brought my mom here and I thought she might cry it brought back so many palpable memories of growing up in the city for her. I almost want to keep it quiet out here in Clinton Hill, but they deserve the shout out. Just come here for a quintessential NY breakfast experience already.

Mike's never disappoints! This is at least my fifth time going to Mike's since moving to Brooklyn and it's consistently satisfying. My go to order is the corned beef hash and eggs and blueberry waffles. The corned beef hash is exactly what you'd want from a dinner, and the waffles are crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside. The service is always very fast and everyone who works there is very friendly and nice. Lastly, the ambiance is everything you'd want from an old school diner - cozy, classic, and no frills. Highly recommend!

Treated myself to breakfast at Mike's Coffee shop for the first time in yearrrs. I ordered crispy corned beef hash with grits, scrambled eggs and buttered wheat toast. If the price was $5 cheaper, I swear I would have made this a four star review. But $21 for what I got is just too much to justify a high rating for this college-centric coffee shop. Yelp also needs to change this restaurant profile as they accept credit cards. The food here is not bad, not bad at all. I got the French toast with two eggs and some turkey bacon and it all was satisfying for an early breakfast. The eggs were a bit bland though but that can be forgiven by the fact the French toast was dusted with cinnamon sugar. That is a nice touch. It really is a coffee shop that so happens to be located near the Pratt Institute. I will keep it on my list for diners, but just not expect to be blown away.

I visited mike's primarily because it's a favorite place of my fiancés. Having spent one Sunday morning there before noon for breakfast, I could honestly see why. Mostly because the food was delivered in a flash and served in large portions. They had some minor vegan options like oatmeal made with water and fresh bananas, toast with jam of course. I would go here again to support this old school diner in Clinton Hill even with limited vegan options. Super cute and accessible.

My absolute favorite diner in all of nyc! This place hasn't changed throughout the 10 years I've been coming and for good reason. It's a pretty small spot that all locals are aware of. It has a great local small diner feel that is so comforting and everyone/the service is so sweet. I've had a little bit of everything of the food from this place and you really can't go wrong. It is cash only and usually has a small wait on the weekends but it's so worth it!

This diner is one of the last classic diners left in Brooklyn where you get that Mom and Pop experience. It's a throwback to a lot of diners that I grew up going to in the '80s and '90s. No TVs. Just tables, plates and the sounds of people eating. The service is friendly, fast and efficient. If you're trying to eat here I would not recommend going on the weekends or Fridays late because it gets full and there's a line of people waiting to go inside to sit down and eat. There is a limited amount of seating. It is a smaller diner. They have counter seating, booths and then they have a small roll of two seater tables in the middle. There was also some limited seating outside, I would not recommend this place for large parties, 2-4 max. Five within 5 minutes of me sitting down and ordering. I already had my food and everything was made to order. It was hot. It was fresh. It was delicious. I had the corned beef hash and eggs with grits butter and a croissant coffee and orange juice. The prices are very good too, look to spend between $11-$25 per person. Please note this place is cash only. They do not accept any form of card or tap to pay. There's an ATM by the front door. **(EDIT: Someone has let me know they do take cards now, I dunno cuz I didn't ask when the bill came I just paid cash...find out for yourself )** My only critique of this place is that it's too small. I'm 6'4 and when I sit down to eat my arms elbows and sometimes my legs are constantly hitting the waders as they walk by or bumping into people as I turned. I ended up sitting in the middle row of tables with the two seats, unfortunately that was the only place that I could sit. I ended up apologizing to a lot of people for hitting them. The bathroom is also a tight. But you will still enjoy this place. You'll enjoy it even more if you're average size and not extra large like me. read more

Love this spot still (after all these years). It's your classic diner breakfast foods, no extra frills and thrills. Fast service, fresh hot food and the staff are always welcoming. Came by on solo on a Saturday morning, so sat at the counter this time. I was in and out with a full belly and ready to run my errands in no time. The western complete with grits and my additional sausage was delicious. read more

The staff was super friendly. Its a real neighborhood spot. They know the local and have deep relationships in the community. I love that. It was pretty crowded on a late Sunday morning with millennials and gen z'ers. Wait was about 20 mins for a table. Its standard diner food. Nothing was special. Id give it 4 stars but my order was poorly managed. I ordered a waffle, eggs and turkey bacon. The eggs and bacon came out in about 2 mins. The waffle cams out in about 12 mins and was room temperature. So basically all my food ended up cold. Maybe next time. I'll be back. read more

I have never been here but someone told me that I had to go. I got a egg, cheddar cheese and turkey bacon on a a roll. Shoutout to them both frying my turkey bacon hard. I hate hard turkey bacon. Side eye to them putting the cheese on the turkey bacon versus the eggs. It's definitely a little hole in the wall that you can tell has been in the neighborhood for a while. The staff is personable and knows their regulars. It is a regular diner with "new" Brooklyn prices. read more

Mikes Coffee Shop completely lived up to the hype I heard from a friend who grew up here. The waffles were spot on and absolutely delicious, and I ordered them with the roast chicken which was incredibly moist and cooked perfectly. The combination was comforting and satisfying in the best way. The hot chocolate was also amazing and kept me warm during the December cold, rich and cozy with every sip. The service was immaculate from start to finish, which makes it easy to understand why this place has been around for so long. I came to Brooklyn as a 7 month old baby in 1960 and we lived right down the street on Lafayette ave. Mike's has been around for as long as I remember. It's always the go to spot whenever the fellas and I hook up and Reminisce about the good days of growing in Bed-Stuy. I received bad customer service today. My coworker picked up pancakes and eggs for me yesterday she paid 14.44. Today I decided to get them myself, I got the same order and they charged me $16. I asked why is it so much today and the lady in the front said it was due to tax. I explained to her that my coworker came yesterday and ordered the same thing. I even asked My coworker for her bank statement to show them. Both the lady and I'm assume the owner just stared at me and said this is my price and if I'm paying it or not. I don't ever write reviews but I felt like how I was treated was unfair and should be noted read more

Popped in because I was craving breakfast food and the pancakes here hit the spot. For $15 (before tip) I had iced coffee, pancakes, an egg and turkey sausage! In NYC, that's a deal! It was fast and nice service and was an overall diner vibe. It hit all my expectations today and I was super happy to come in. I look forward to coming back. read more

My mother and I loved Mike's coffee shop and will definitely return and recommend to others when visiting NYC. The food is good, the prices are reasonable and the services is excellent. From the moment you put your name down with the host you are treated well. The servers are great and when it's time to pay your bill, the cashier cashes you out with a smile. If you want to (just) talk about a stereotypical, old school - classical coffee shop, Mike's Coffee Shop in Brooklyn, NY is it! Everything about this place took me back to my Manor Coffee Shop in Lake Shore / San Francisco days when I was a kid. The smell, the vibe, the booths, the counter, the food, all of these nostalgic memories I loved so much from a million years ago hit me square in the face today. Will the food here at Mike's ever win any awards - no! But, everything else about this gem of a diner "lit" me up like a lantern. Their Club sandwich was excellent, the BLT was great, and their egg salad sandwich on white bread was my "E" ticket to memory lane. The service was wonderful, and the prices they're charging for this lunch were ridiculously inexpensive (especially for a restaurant in New York). Speaking of New York, this city never surprises me with the quality and ingenuity of its food. Mike's Coffee Shop was a pure example of this. read more

Classical and essential Diner in Clinton Hill. Is cash only and inexpensive. Food flies out of the kitchen at a rapid pace, this place is a well oiled machine. There are new owners and the food has only gotten better. I have so many wonderful memories taking both my kids here. Dont sleep on the gyro. read more

Nice happy hour and a large chocolate drink selection I was at this unique Guatemalan (ish) restaurant a while back with one of my groups. I said "ish" because the menu has dishes from all over, ranging from sandwiches to BBQ ribs to Guatemalan and Mexican soups. It's out there, and even though not everything works that well, it's fun, and if you can't find something you want to order here, you probably shouldn't go out to restaurants. There was also live jazz music that night, which was loud but nice to listen to. Since it was happy hour, a bunch of us got drinks. I went with a maracuya margarita, which was decent; someone else had a jalapeño margarita, someone had a beer, and someone had a mojito. There were a few nice hot sauces on the table, with the red one reminding me of salsa macha as it had a smoky kick and a spicier green sauce reminiscent of ají verde. They gave us some complimentary blue corn chips and a very mild black bean dip, which was tasty enough and hard to complain about, as it was free. From the appetizers, we got the Hot Figs for $15.95, consisting of honey goat cheese, corn tortilla chips, and plum + pumpkin seeds. This was a unique and fun blend and reminded me more of something you would find in a wine bar. The mix of sweet and salty, with a bit of crunch from the seeds, was nice. This was good, and I would recommend it for a table rather than for a solo diner. There was also The Zingy Salad for $21.95, featuring zucchini spirals, yuzu, tomato, onion, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and a jalapeño infusion. $18.95. The salad was fine with a bit of crunch and a mild spiciness. It was fine, though a bit wet, for lack of a better word. The best dishes of the night were the soups, which each had its own distinct flavor profile. My sight presence went to the Pepián for $21.95, consisting of chicken, pumpkin/sesame seeds, green tomatillo, cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, carrots, chili coban/pasta/guaque, and potato + rice. There was plenty of tender chicken inside, with the soup having a nice roasted flavor with some spice and a bit of sourness. The potatoes and rice on the bottom added more sustenance to this dish. Almost equally delicious was the Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo for a dollar more with shredded chicken, tomato, black pepper, garlic, onions, peas, chickpeas, corn, achiote, chipotle, Monterey jack cheese, and crunchy blue corn tortilla chips. By comparison, this was a bit heartier, with the melted cheese and shredded tortilla chips inside, similar to soups found in Mexican cuisine. While I also liked the mix of veggies a bit more in this one, as it added a bit more texture, I still slightly preferred the flavor of the other soup, as I usually prefer a bit more spice. The rest of the food was fine. The TPC sandwich for $19.95 with chicken, peanut butter, coconut cream, ginger, cilantro, pickled carrots, and lime was fine. For the number of ingredients, I found it a bit sweet, likely from the cream and the peanut butter mix. The bread was nice, but it also fell apart. It came with a nice side salad with a good vinaigrette. The most expensive at $24.95 were the Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs, consisting of baby back ribs with rice and beans. The ribs were almost a bit too tender as they lacked any bite, which was nice, but the sauce was a bit too generic tasting, reminding me of Sweet Baby Ray's or something similar. The rice and beans were standard. This was also OK. Next came some dessert. There was first the $12.95 Rosemary Churros served with dulce de leche & chocolate dips. While I'm not sure if it worked, the rosemary did add a unique smell and a bit of flavor, and at least it wasn't generic. The churros themselves were hot, and the sauces were standard, with my preference being the dulce de leche. I also ordered a Champurrado for $7.95, which was fine. It wasn't as thick as I expected, though perhaps the style is a bit different than the champurrados I rarely buy from Mexican street carts. The chocolate flavor was very nice, though, and I like that it wasn't too sweet. Another person got a $4 Alfajor, which I got a bite of, which was standard. This place is a bit hard to rate. The two soups were wonderful, I liked the appetizers, and I found a couple of the other dishes just OK. Overall, it was a good meal, but I'm not craving to go back. This would be the perfect 3.5, but I'll round up as that doesn't exist.

I also tried the matcha latte (which tasted a bit too milky) and I had to add extra sweetener, so I'd probably try a different drink next time. The pastries, especially the apple strudel and Boston cream donut, were both really good. Highly recommend the apple strudel.

This place has the quickest service I've seen, even during rush hours. The food is consistently good and the staff are fantastic. It's an ideal no-frills spot for breakfast or lunch, with affordable prices in today's economy. I recommend the deluxe french toast with scrambled eggs and bacon, and the bacon, egg, and cheese is great too. Their burgers and sandwiches are solid, though I haven't tried them all. Don't miss the vanilla milkshake--it's creamy and has a strong vanilla flavor, similar to Johnny Rockets. read more

Oh hell yes! This place is my jam! Feels like I hopped in a Delorean and went back to 1979 for some old school coffee and eggs. I've never received food so quickly from a sit down restaurant and the whole staff was on their game here. Only downside is that they don't take credit card but since we're in 1979 that isn't an issue. Also check out their chicken and waffles - it's shockingly delicious! This is one of the places that stands out not for its food but as an institution for so many pratt students who pass through its doors. Its also a strong local joint where you can get a hearty breakfast for a reasonable price. The food is nothing to write home about its simple and hearty and gets you going for the long road ahead.
