This diner is one of the last classic diners left in Brooklyn where you get that Mom and Pop experience. It's a throwback to a lot of diners that I grew up going to in the '80s and '90s. No TVs. Just tables, plates and the sounds of people eating. The service is friendly, fast and efficient. If you're trying to eat here I would not recommend going on the weekends or Fridays late because it gets full and there's a line of people waiting to go inside to sit down and eat. There is a limited amount of seating. It is a smaller diner. They have counter seating, booths and then they have a small roll of two seater tables in the middle. There was also some limited seating outside, I would not recommend this place for large parties, 2-4 max. Five within 5 minutes of me sitting down and ordering. I already had my food and everything was made to order. It was hot. It was fresh. It was delicious. I had the corned beef hash and eggs with grits butter and a croissant coffee and orange juice. The prices are very good too, look to spend between $11-$25 per person. Please note this place is cash only. They do not accept any form of card or tap to pay. There's an ATM by the front door. **(EDIT: Someone has let me know they do take cards now, I dunno cuz I didn't ask when the bill came I just paid cash...find out for yourself )** My only critique of this place is that it's too small. I'm 6'4 and when I sit down to eat my arms elbows and sometimes my legs are constantly hitting the waders as they walk by or bumping into people as I turned. I ended up sitting in the middle row of tables with the two seats, unfortunately that was the only place that I could sit. I ended up apologizing to a lot of people for hitting them. The bathroom is also a tight. But you will still enjoy this place. You'll enjoy it even more if you're average size and not extra large like me. read more

It was pretty crowded on a late Sunday morning with millennials and gen z'ers. Wait was about 20 mins for a table. Its standard diner food. Nothing was special. Id give it 4 stars but my order was poorly managed. I ordered a waffle, eggs and turkey bacon. The eggs and bacon came out in about 2 mins. This place is just an unbelievable under the radar gem that I feel privileged to have unearthed upon moving to this neighborhood. Just a classic, old school NY diner specializing in breakfast (eggs, omelettes, pancakes), burgers, club sandwiches, cheap, effective coffee and the like. All with brisk, effective but polite service that will get you out of there promptly on a busy weekend or let you linger over coffee refills on a quiet weekday. I mean, don't take it from me--if you've read Patti Smith's incredible memoir, Just Kids, she talks of living down the clock in the 60s, living off of a diner, an art store and a phone book down the block. Reader, the only thing no longer here is the phone booth. In a city renowned for its impermanence, Mike's proudly, deservedly remains. In a borough and world where other old diners like Tom's have deserved renown but endless lines, hype, and modern prices and feel, this gem legitimately feels like stepping back in time 60+ years. The waffles were spot on and absolutely delicious, and I ordered them with the roast chicken which was incredibly moist and cooked perfectly. If the price was $5 cheaper, I swear I would have made this a four star review. But $21 for what I got is just too much to justify a high rating for this college-centric coffee shop. Yelp also needs to change this restaurant profile as they accept credit cards. The food here is not bad, not bad at all. I got the French toast with two eggs and some turkey bacon and it all was satisfying for an early breakfast. The eggs were a bit bland though but that can be forgiven by the fact the French toast was dusted with cinnamon sugar. That is a nice touch. Everything about this place took me back to my Manor Coffee Shop in Lake Shore / San Francisco days when I was a kid. The smell, the vibe, the booths, the counter, the food, all of these nostalgic memories I loved so much from a million years ago hit me square in the face today. Will the food here at Mike's ever win any awards - no! But, everything else about this gem of a diner "lit" me up like a lantern. Their Club sandwich was excellent, the BLT was great, and their egg salad sandwich on white bread was my "E" ticket to memory lane. The service was wonderful, and the prices they're charging for this lunch were ridiculously inexpensive (especially for a restaurant in New York).
