Burgers need seasoning. Sautéed vegetables is a joke. $6.95 for some vegetables boiled from a frozen bag is crazy.

I only ordered an bagel and cream cheese nothing g to really rate here. Ambiance very appropriate for a Sunday morning. Peaceful and pleasant. Here over an hour and no one offered to refill the coffee.

I tried their plain bagel with lox and cream cheese. I ordered through Grubhub and it came early. It was the perfect ratio of lox to bagel. The Nova Scotia lox was also really yummy. This might be one of the best bagel with lox that I've had. I would totally get it again!

Great place to order for lunch. Had a tuscan panini that was very good. Next time I will say no onions, there were a lot. Pesto was just enough. Steak fries are my favorite...sooo tasty and nicely fried. Portion overall was very good. Looking forward to exploring menu.

    Multigrain toast

Wednesday, July 5, 2023 early afternoon, table for 2. We sat wherever we wanted and were brought menus. We both ordered coffee with milk as well as iced water with lemon( on the side). The lady had the Bleu cheese burger deluxe with red onions and avocado. She really enjoyed the burger deluxe and took a bit of it home. I had the chicken breast, eggs over easy platter which came with avocado, multigrain toast( with butter and strawberry jelly). It was topped with a warm Chipotle hollandaise sauce. The dish was perfect in presentation and flavor. Attached to hotel and service was amazing without being invasive. Definitely pocket friendly.

No reason to be paying over $50 for two bacon egg and cheese and two orange juice. Please just go to the corner store or make it yourself because it's unreasonable and the service is not worth 20% and then asking for a tip on top of that. Please just buy the breakfast buffet at the hotel and stay away from this spot.

Fluffy challah French toast with crispy bacon

Yay a diner in my neighborhood! The food is good, the coffee is fresh, the prices are reasonable and the service is pleasant. Neighbors, work with me on this one: let's keep this place in business. I've only been here for breakfast (twice) and it was shortly after they opened so they probably were putting on their best face but I have hope that they'll keep it up, they seemed professional. Both times I got challah French toast with crispy bacon. The toast was fluffy and the bacon was indeed crispy. Four slices of each, came to 11.95 I believe. Hubs got two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. He was happy. I think it cost the same but don't quote me. The menu is the size of a, I don't know, something big. They have a bunch of sandwiches and other stuff. I recognize the menu from a place on Montague that I meant to go to but never did so I guess it was meant to be. They had a buffet for 21.95 but we weren't ready to treat ourselves. They are next to the Holiday Inn.

The Caesar salad was a knockout as was the burger. With the passage of time I can't recall the particulars of the Fitzcarraldo but I liked it. It was priced like one might expect in an ironically named Brooklyn venue but they were generous with the good stuff. Even the bread was impressive. So this isn't my usual spot but I'm glad that more highbrow out-of-town friends chose it. The absence of a formal menu in favor of the server writing down the day's option may be a gimmick, but after a few bites I was swayed. Better to be king for a day than dollar pizza for a lifetime.

Are you gonna get an airy twink as a server who wants to go back to Bushwick and lets you know that at every second, or are you going to get a serious experience with a focused, professional server. Ya never know. This used to be part of the charm, but now it's a liability because friends (and other chefs in the neighborhood) never want to go to Diner because...ya never know what it'll be. Diner has never coasted on continuity. They change up the menu every day. They write it on the paper tablecloth, for Chrissakes. But I still love that! I still find most of the food to be delicious (if pricey), I still think their cocktails are well-made (even if their bar is weirdly slow) and I love their brunch and I love the vibe, and I'm glad it's still here. Their Caesar salad is overrated, as is the burger, but they're always mixing it up. You could get lucky. Ya never know...

While they have all the traditional breakfast fare, I was so happy to see it also had a Caribbean twist to it. I couldn't help myself--I had to order rice and beans with pernil (pork shoulder) and a side of sweet plantains. Of course, I wanted some actual breakfast items, so we got the French toast loaded with fruit. We also got both the tres and quatro golpes, which is a traditional Dominican breakfast. Lastly, we got a Caribbean omelet. My rice and pernil was solid. The rice could've used a tad bit more seasoning but when mixed with the side of beans and plantains plus a drizzle of hot sauce it was perfect. They had a variety of sauces--Tabasco (my fave), a Jamaican one that was super spicy, and a mild homemade one. The tres/quatro golpes was also a hearty choice with mangu (mashed plantain), sausage, fried cheese, and eggs. The pickled red onion balanced everything out. The fried cheese is similar to a halloumi but I think it's a bit more flavorful. All the flavors just melt together in your mouth perfectly. The French toast and omelet were good. I'd say the Caribbean items stole the show though. The place has a typical diner vibe and is on the small side. Food was served quickly and service was good. Discount if you pay in cash. I will be coming back to try their Cuban!!

Even if you don't see something on the menu you can likely order it (within reason). On our first visit, we ordered the carbonara and we were hooked. How can this little spot we skipped over so many times give us such great food? Have we been missing out this whole time? From this first visit, we've ended up coming in many times during all times of day whether that was a late night dinner or hungover breakfast, Grand Canyon just hits the spot. It is not your fanciest meal, but it is comfort personified. Apparently there is more than one location in Manhattan. The inside reminded me of a classic diner. Comfy and with a pretty cool vibe. We all slid into a booth and looked over the seasonal offerings along with their standard menu. I was lured by the chicken Kyiv based on the picture of having two rolled up chicken cutlets stuffed with dill and other yumminess, but was a bit disappointment when it arrived with a single small cutlet on my plate with two heaping mounds of potatoes mash and broccoli. I instantly had regret when I should have gotten the borscht soup with pierogies, but wanted to try something I wouldn't usually. I should've stuck to what was safe. My work mom got the stuffed cabbage and that was a clear homerun- really loved the mushroom gravy that it came with. My other colleague got the potato pancake and wasn't too thrilled with it, while my boss got the two Swedish meatballs that he described to be Ikea worthy. Although this was my first time here, I can't say that anyone really loved the food nor would come out of their way to come back.
