Got there in the morning and the same man said i only said we can do that, insinuating I shouldn't have brought my car in.. Also spent I spent money on a diagnostic just for them to tell me my computer is bad when it really was a blown fuse for my OBD2. A real Mechanic would've check that shit smh. We've brought our cars to Mike's for years but a recent experience prompted me to write a Yelp review. Brought my daughter's car in with a few problems. Automatic seat would not go backward but only forward so she was basically sitting in the windshield at this point. The battery had died so we needed battery replacement. Right rear tire had a slow leak to the point where she had to put air in it weekly. Mike told us as much as we'd hate it, a new seat motor with installation would be over a thousand dollars but said that they'd do a full inspection to make sure it wasn't something else. Well Mike called us 2 days later (because I said there was no rush) and sure enough his team found that it was not the motor, it was simply a switch which was FAAARRRR less expensive. They fixed that, the tire leak, and installed a new battery for about $1,000 less than we thought we were going to pay for everything. They do good work here. read more

I was driving home from Big lots across the street when I noticed my steering wheel was turning right. I found a flat tire and was in dire need for help. I searched up the nearest Auto repair store and Mike's Fairwood Auto popped up. It was a minute drive but they were closing. They seem like they were very booked up so I just asked for some air to take it to a tire shop. They checked out my tire and told me that this needs to be fixed before it gets more damaged. They ended up squeezing me into their schedule and patched up my tire. This car needs a couple more things done but I know where to take it for work. These guys were very helpful and were very kind. Had good amount of money for repairs but I just didn't like Mike's attitude and how he didn't really pay attention to my questions about repair. You walk into his store and there's no greeting. My initial visit by appointment this morning was excellent. Mike and I took my older Dodge Caravan for a drive to identify a rear brake noise causing a problem. Within 1 hour I received a call back from Ben about the diagnosis and best estimate of cost to repair my rear brakes. I decided not to proceed with the repair today as the issue was not critical to driving safely and could be postponed. Upon return to the shop I met Mike who clearly described the problem they discovered. He handed me the keys with a smile and I left the shop. No charge. This problem was not identified earlier by my local Les Schwab whose reps suggested the problem was front brakes. Not. Mike and Ben were friendly, on time with service and are people who say what they mean and mean what they say. There are only a few of those folks left these days. This shop is so expensive. They charge $150 just to read your engine light. Cost $900 to replace spark plug and ignition coil. Ripoff!!!

The only reason this gets one star is because zero is not an option. I'm going to preface this review with saying that Ben is a standup individual. Nice guy. Easy to work with. Easy to get along with. Now to the owner. Nobody and I mean NOBODY should go to this shop as long as the name "Mike" is on the sign. He will treat your mother/wife/kid like absolute garbage. I'm a sleeved up bodybuilder that spent 20 years in the military (a pretty scary man to most people) and Mike talked to me like I was the biggiest POS he'd ever seen. Directly to my face. And multiple times over the phone. He is single-handedly the rudest/meanest individual I have ever met in my entire life. He WILL yell at you and make you feel stupid in public. I'm the nicest guy in the world and pretty scary looking and he did it to me. If he did it to me he'll do it to your mother and your daughter. Read the reviews. He does. Now to what happened. I live near so I dropped off my car for a quick fix. I have a third party extended warranty on it. A week before my appointment I went in and talked to Mike about it. I asked him if they work with third party warranties. "I don't want to". With a pissed off state is all I got. ...okkkk so do you or dont you?? Then Mike proceeded to give me the business as a customer about how third party warranties are hard to work with and how he's got to call them and negotiate rates and this and that. Okkkk...so do you or not?? "I will if you want me to". "Yeah that would be really kind of you I guess to please do your job?" He was pissed at me and didn't attempt to hide it at all. He talked to me like I was the worlds biggest pain in his ass. It was so shocking I thought he was joking. I couldn't believe how rude he was being. I was so shocked in the moment I couldn't even say anything. I ask if I can drop it off day prior so I don't have to have it there early. "Does it look to you like I have room in there for you to just be dropping it off?!?" Yelling at me. Uhhh I can't just put it in the parking lot and drop the keys like every mechanic ever? More pissed off than ever Mike agreed. Boy was that a mistake. When I went to actually drop it off a week later he gave me the business again. Infront of other customers. All pisses off I was dropping it off a day earlier. "Did I tell you to drop it off a day prior to your appt?!" "Uhhh yeah ...you did." Anyways the rest of the day was spent with Mike yelling at me on the phone having ME call the warranty people for him. He gave me a list of things he wanted me to ask them to cover and even asked me to negotiate his rates and work for them to pay him storage. The warranty lady was shocked. She said she'd never once had a customer call on behalf of the mechanic and not the other way around. I told Mike I had to work and didn't have time to do this for him. But it was his way of rubbing it in my face that he didn't want to work with a third party warranty. It was like he was trying to prove it to me as his customer. The whole time while yelling at me and making me take time off work to do his job for him. Eventually I had enough. A full day had gone by and at this time I had been yelled at by a man I had hired to do a job at least 5 or 6 times and multiple times in person. I took the rest of the day off work and drove to just pick up my car and take it somewhere that doesn't treat customers like garbage. When I got there Mike immediately started giving me lip. What a mean, terrible person this guy is. I just retired from 20 years in the military a few months ago. Nobody is going to talk to me like that and if he's talking to me like that he's talking to everyone like that. So for everyone's mother or daughter that Mike has made cry I chewed his ass out up one wall and down the other. In the military we call that a "wall to wall" convo. If he had talked to my wife or daughter the way he spoke to me I would have ripped the counter that was between us apart. I took my keys and left. As long as this place says "Mike's" on the door DO NOT walk in unless you're a fan of being belittled. The owner of this shop is the worst human being I have ever had the "pleasure" of working with. No other terrible customer service experience in my 40 years of life even comes close to how bad Mike is at it. Mike talks to people like a man who's never been punched in the mouth. Mike, one of these days someone's not going to be as nice to you as I was about it and you're going to wish you didn't treat humans the way you do. I hope you get some help brother. You need it more than anyone I've ever met. Ben, I appreciate you. You're a good guy. I hope for your children's sake your dad doesn't run your legacy in the ground before you get a chance to fix it. Brought my Golf here twice. First time they fixed it promptly and there was no problem (thermostat issue). Second time I brought it in was to get a check engine light serviced. My first cylinder was misfiring and I possibly needed a new ignition coil. They said it might be a few days because their technician was off work with his family. Am I missing something? How do you manage a garage without a technician, yet stay open? 3 days later I was told they couldn't work on my car because they were "missing a tool" they needed. Luckily I wasn't charged amything. Took my car elsewhere and had it done in less than 1 business day. New place told me it was an extremely easy fix that doesn't take any special tools. Bottom line: went to this place because it was close and convenient, but won't be coming back. Customer service ain't that hard, yet here small things seemed like a major inconvenience read more

I have dealt with this place for many years. These are the mechanics that other mechanics go to. So, if you're looking for couches, coffee, and donuts, go to the franchised dealer. In reading these reviews, I'm amazed at what people are expecting. Mike the owner is to the point. which some folks are not prepared for. He will accept or decline your then RIGHT THEN, rather than take you on a carnival ride of jacked up charges on attempts to fix your car. He gives you the respect you show him. I send friends and family here all the time. I just tell them "This guy will fix your car correctly and honestly'. Don't expect a counseling session...... Which brings us to the folks that gave a 1-star review. Car trouble is stressful. Repairs don't need to be. Some people just show up unhappy. Just like I suspect the vociferous retired military guy did. Sad That guy sounds angry at the world. You come into this place with a chip on your shoulder, you will leave looking at your shoes. It is difficult to find someone both competent and honest. Mike is a straight shooter and old school, kind of like a military sergeant. This might scare some people but it really speaks well of his integrity and honor. I went in to get a quote for an alternator. The owner tried to charge me for nearly 700 dollars for my 1999 Honda Accord by adding unnecessary parts that I didn't ask for. Mind you, I am deaf, but he must have thought I was dumb enough for him to take advantage of me. My dad is a mechanic and an alternator usually go for 150-200 a pop plus labor. So should easily be under 400 or 350 at most but trying to charge me 700 for all that. After calling him on the scam, he became downright rude and pretty much said that I know nothing about cars. It's ironic because I only spent 175 for labor and the part at the other shop and my car feels brand new. Steer clear of this shop if you don't want to be scammed for your money read more

I needed to get my 60 mile service done on my Honda Civic. I called around to get some estimates and was being quoted $500-600, which I thought was insane. I went to Mike's and they quoted me about $200-300 less. They did same day service and only kept my car there for less than a couple of hours. The staff was very friendly and helpful and let me know of other/ future wear and tear issues but did not pressure me to make a sale. They were informative, helpful and friendly. I took my car here a couple years ago for an exhaust problem and they seemed very friendly, and got the job done. I then had a broken window about a year and a half ago, and when I called Mike's for a bid it was about twice what every other place bid. I let the guy I spoke with know that, and expressed that it concerned me because it was so high. He remained friendly and explained that it had something to do with what Mike's would be charged for the window or something like that. I wasn't totally clear on why the bid came in so high, but perhaps windows are just something you don't want to get done in an auto body shop. Then about a week ago my check engine light came on and I called Mike's. As the auto shop closest to my house I would love to give them my business. The guy on the phone said they were really busy but I could bring it in seven days later. I asked if that was a good idea to drive around with a check engine light on for a week, and he said they could squeeze me in six days later. He said the diagnostic would take the whole day, which worried me too because it seemed clear it would take at least two days for the car to get fixed - if I was lucky. I then checked Yelp and found a well rated auto shop nearby. I called them and they agreed to take a look immediately, and even though they were closing in an hour. The quick check was free, and they took my car, ran diagnostic the following morning and I had the car back with everything fixed by the following day. It's a bummer because, again, Mike's is closer. But my last few experiences have left me feeling like their pricing is not transparent and they don't really have time for more customers anyway. Wish my experiences had been better. Good stuff so far. I've moved a lot recently, and a big source of angst has been finding a shop I trust. I had a guy in Knoxville who was terrific, but I can't make a 2500 mile drive for service. . . Anyway, reviews on Yelp were solid, and the place is close to my house, so I gave it a shot. They were pretty booked up, but they managed to squeeze me into the schedule early. My family depends on this car, so that was very appreciated. They found the problem; fuel system issues are kind of a pain, but it was much cheaper than I expected and not too much downtime. They also called out a couple of maintenance items I missed, and since it was stuff I could take care of myself, there was no pressure for them to do it immediately. I've got more work to be done; my little Accord needs some attention, and there's a project with the beast that needs doing. These guys more than earned another shot. We're lucky to have them so close to home. read more

It's rare to find a mechanic this honest. The staff is friendly, happy to bring me back into their well kept up shop and show me what they're doing, get the job done quickly, and have reasonable prices. Before I found these guys I was driving 40 miles to go to the other good mechanic I found a few years ago (Autologic) but I will be going to Mike's from now on for everything from oil changes to bigger jobs I don't want to do myself. Mike took my friends for almost $3000 and the car was still not road worthy. He claimed he could not diagnose computer issues because Chevrolet uses secret codes he could not understand or interpret. There is a page on Mike's website that states how important checking computers are and that they can indeed do this. He tried to rip off my friend's aunt by offering her $500 dollars for the car with a book value of $6000+ when this whole nightmare started, which is when I got involved. The local Chevy dealer ended up fixing the car finally and they noted that the car was not reassembled correctly, hoses and wiring was improperly routed by Mike and his staff, and there was a freshly broken off bracket on the intake manifold. The actual issue that kept it from running correctly after Mike's work was a broken sensor that the dealer thought was actually broken by whoever did the work they were redoing. They also noted that it was a simple process to read the computer code to find out the sensor was broken. They also noted that the fuel pump Mike replaced was a part that they had never seen fail and that they don't even stock and they are a northwest regional parts distributer for Chevy. Should you use Mike, watch your invoices carefully as Mike inflated the prices of the parts he replaced by as much as 400% above retail prices. I verified the parts retail pricing with the dealer Mike bought the parts from. The dealer had a record that Mike bought them there. And I am sure Mike paid wholesale prices, so why did he think he could mark up prices so high? Horrible experience. Untrustworthy business. Beware. read more

I like the idea of spending my money with locally owned businesses, and Mike's Auto is within walking distance of my house. So I called to get an appointment to have my air conditioning looked at. I was pleased that I could drop my car by on Saturday and they would work it in. On Saturday I found out that the Air Conditioning expert only works every other Saturday. So no go, but not a big deal I could drop it off on Monday and they would give me a good price for the mistake. On Monday I left the car but didn't hear anything back so I called around 1:30 to see what's up. The car was ready. I asked what ended up being the issue and Mike told me...I don't know. We recharged it...If there is a leak it will stop working. The "good" price seemed high - $199.00 A friend said she paid less recently at a dealership - Ouch!. I do have cool air, but I hear a hissing sound. Post update: Nothing but hot air on the ride home tonight. Not happy! read more

Price gouger!! There labor rate is outrageous and they gouge you on the parts, more than twice what you would pay at a parts store.

This has been the repair shop I've stuck with for the last five years; I've had services as simple as a flat repair, and as complicated as a clutch replacement. Over and over again I've found them to be honest and straight with me. I admit their prices aren't the lowest I can probably find, but when it comes to car repair, I'll take someone I can trust over saving a few bucks on the hourly labor rate. I've been burned too many times by other places, so I'll stick to a place that I know is fair. read more

I went to mike's auto repair for a tune - up on my truck, I was charged $250.00. labor cost, and your basic plugs and wires, fuel filter that's it cost me $463.00 total. It's sad to say I paid it, and got into my truck and it ran like S..T. Please be advised not to take your vehicle in for repairs, because my experience leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Not to be confused with Fairwood Automotive Service Center (FASC), which had a horrible reputation. Mikes Fairwood Automotive was previously the family owned Shell Station on the corner Petrovitsky and 176th. After FASC went out of business, Mike and his family moved in to better serve there rapidly growing automotive repair business. I've taken my car to dealers who aren't as good as this guy. Everyone I spoke with was very helpful & easy to deal with. I had the 60k service done on my Subaru along with a few other things that the dealer said I needed done. During the service Mike's called me to let me know that there was gasket that was leaking oil & gave me the exact amount it would cost. After all was said and done along with the unexpected gasket replacement. My total cost was over $400 less than what the dealership wanted. Definitely use them again. read more

Highly recommend this auto shop. As a female I feel like we sometimes get cheated for not really knowing much about cars. I took my VW in because it was leaking coolant. Spoke with someone the phone and he said to bring it on in. It was a Friday and they couldn't do much because they're closed on the weekends. He said he'd perform a pressure test to see if the hoses needed to be replaced. With a quote of $760 I gave him my keys and waited for his call. Later that Friday evening I talked with them and it turns out all I needed was a coolant reservoir. From $760 quote down to only $300. I trust this shop 100% and will be taking my car there in the future for everything even oil changes. read more
