I live in Assembly row and the last couple of visits I received stale cupcakes and black/white cookies - to the point I was unable to eat them because they tasted so dry and stale. After the third time of receiving stale desserts, I stopped going to Mike's. They charge $4-5 for a dessert (more expensive than Georgetown Cupcakes) yet they will give you stale desserts that are not freshly baked. Beware! read more

I thought I didn't like cannolis until I moved to Boston 21 years ago and my sister bought me a chocolate covered Mike's cannoli in the North end filled with ricotta cream. My dessert world changed. Since then, any foray close to the North End included a cannoli run, but it was challenging with no parking, cash only, and luckily for my waist line an infrequent treat. Then Mike's came to Harvard Square. Still cash only, but way more accessible. And then they opened in Assembly Square--where my husband works. And they started accepting credit cards. I made 5 cannoli runs in 3 weeks because of visiting guests. I also asked the counter staff at all 3 locations what their favorite cannoli is and heard every time the florentine. I have been a consistent chocolate covered with an occasional hazelnut amaretto or peanut butter (nutella one was disappointing because didn't really taste like nutella). Wow. The florentine now rivals the chocolate covered. It's a little strange location (in Partners building)--really easy for Partners employees, out of the way for the normal crowd that shops. But worth the little extra walk for dessert! read more

I am a huge fan of Mike's Pastry. The one in North End is always fresh. I have tried the one near Harvard Square, which is great too. BUT stay away from this one. We got Pistachio Cannoli, Lobster Tail and Raspberry Cake. All three stale and disgusting. These are more expensive compared to the ones you get in North End. read more

I came here 3 times in the 5 days I spent in Boston with my dad in October, and it was absolutely amazing. The Florentina and hazelnut cannolis were delicious, and surprisingly, when we left we grabbed a couple to bring home on the airplane, and they actually stayed pretty fresh after traveling on an airplane with no refrigeration for many hours. I would suggest trying the Oreo, chocolate ricotta, Nutella, and hazelnut cannoli's. I don't usually like pistachio, but this one is also pretty good if you like pistachio. Definitely will be planning on making Mike's pastry a must visit if I ever get back to Boston in the future. Don't miss out on a true north-east traditional cannoli from Mike's Pastry! Mike's, I have loved you fiercely since 1999. I used to walk to the North End before taking the train from North Station home just to have a cannoli on the train ride. I know how your cannolis taste. I love the creamy texture and how they are just the right amount of sweetness. So, when you opened at Assembly Row I was really excited that you'd be closer so that I could stop by on the way home in my car. This is the last time I go there. I don't know if it's because your expansion, but your cannoli fillings are extremely inconsistent. The first time I went in there was the day after you opened in Assembly Row. The cannoli was lackluster though; I thought it was probably missing some vanilla extract or something. The second time it tasted very bland and had a very gummy texture. I decided that maybe you needed time to settle into your new location so I gave you a break. I just came back home from going tonight, and now the filling tastes as if there is some kind of spoiled milk inside of it. Not a hint of sweetness. Why. It's nice to have this second location in the Somerville area free from all the massive crowds of the original Hanover street location in the North End. This location thus offers the buzzing Assembly Row patrons a crack at the iconic Mike's cannolis, which my wife and I took full advantage of. The classic ricotta cannoli is flavorful enough on its own but I recommend mixing it up like we did with our chocolate covered variation! Mike's Pastry is the best! You can get 15+ different types of cannolis and all different types of Italian cakes and pastries. Saturday night maybe wasn't the most ideal time to go, as they seemed a bit low on the cannolis, but everything else was fully stocked. Not too crowded, most people seemed to be doing take out instead of sitting down. A bit pricy, but with the name, to be expected. The staff were friendly, and were helpful when picking out an assortment. I got 6 cannolis (chocolate chip, double chocolate, pistachio, hazelnut, nutella and key lime) and one coffee. The cannolis were absolutely delicious. Not too sweet (being from Europe this is the problem that I usually have with pastries in america haha) and the shell was super crunchy and fresh! The prices between $4-5 are fair considering the quality that you get. For 6 cannolis and one coffee I paid $31.25. The coffee was okay. There's definitely better coffee in the area but no better pastries. I will make sure to take all my friends to Mike's Pastry! read more
