What I tasted last night was pretty incredible. I've made these claims before but it's only because I haven't tried every pizza on Long Island. Mikes Underground Pizza just slid into my Number One Spot for the best pizza on Long Island. There's a lot of quirks to piss people off to get at this pizza. My father in law in Florida wouldn't have the patience to pull off this caper. -Coming from the north shore to drive south, *1000 Montauk Hwy* on the Tesla Nav will not bring you to the location, I was at the hospital in Islip. You have to put West Babylon at the end -And it's *Cash ONLY*. Now that we have the pleasantries out of the way, let's continue with the review. The 14" Clam Pie is a game changer. I've waited on very long lines at Frank Pepe's in New Haven to get their clam Apizza. It's good but Mikes Pizza is far superior. Simple with freshly shucked clams, garlic and breadcrumbs, now add the crust that a comes from a true New York pizzaiolo who doesn't cut the pizza Connecticut style (like it came out of a slasher film) and now you have a competition pizza that Dave Portnoy would give a 9.4. The Vodka Round was equally impressive. The sauce was so complex, first bite I could tell it was a home run, out the box (see what I did there) a winner. Here's my issue, I drove from the North Shore to the South Shore to an abandoned bank parking lot to get at this pizza. I know the business model is working for you but it doesn't for the customers. I have a plan! Listen, I'm ready to retire. I'm thinking about the next few years driving on the Belt Parkway to Bay Ridge and it gives me night terrors. Let's do this together! Is it a gimmick? Of course. You stand in front of a black gate and men in black suits bring out your food. Is it fun! Absolutely! But at the end of the day, it is all about the food and they did not disappoint! Went with some friend's so was able to get two pies sand a cheesesteak sandwich (forgot to take a pic ). All of them were very good. Sauce is not too acidic, cheese is not too salty and crust is tasty. Pepperoni chips were also yummy! Cheesesteak was also very good. I wish I had taken a picture because you cannot really see the cheese when you open the box but there is a lot of it that worked its way throughout the high quality ribeye. Self proclaimed pizza snob here. If I'm out about for work, pizza is usually my "go to" lunch. The sauce is key for me and this pizza has a pretty solid sauce. The crust is tasty without being chewy. I found out about this "place" through word of mouth and I was very skeptical about it before ordering. I just remember texting a number for pizza and the next thing I knew a man in a tuxedo delivered it. It seems that at first this was a word of mouth only thing, with no physical store front, but another Yelper on her said they parked somewhere with their hazard lights on and a man delivered a pizza to him. The pizza reminded me of Brooklyn Pizza Collective. I really enjoyed the pizza. If I was in the area, I'd be pressed to find better pizza in a 30 minute radius. Ok....if you know, you know! Mikes pizza is a ghost pizza shop that really wants only to deliver to your house rather then pick it up. I chose to pick it up. You wait in your car with your hazards on and a guy comes to your car and hands you the pizza. It's very confusing! However, the pizza.....excellent. We ordered a regular pie and Vodka Sicilian. I'm gonna start with my 2nd rendezvous while waiting in the parking lot. A guy in a white pickup pulls up next to my son & I we have a great conversation when I ask what did he order. He said the Detroit Fondue & I wanted to try it so I offered him a slice of my Clam Casino. We agreed that when the pizza came we'd swap. When he tasted the slice he offered a slice of his the Detroit A La Vodka for another slice of the Clam Casino. So there we were, strangers in a parking lot swapping slices. And boy oh boy was this the best idea. He loves the Casino slice & we loves his 2 Detroit slices. So we got to taste 3 pies for the price of one. A Win Win! And let me tell you, that Clam Casino Pie is FIRE!! I'd recommend all 3 pies. On May 22, 2022....Soooo I've been part of the club for awhile, getting texts for Mike's Pizza but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Tonight was the night I decided to test them out with a clam pie and a pear salad. I met my shirt & tie dressed waiter at the non descriptive closed bank in West Babylon. It felt naughty. Psst...hey...yeah you...c'mere. I gotta tell you somethin', but it's a secret...Mike's Pizza is delicious! You have to be a little cryptic here when talking about Mike's because it's truly an "underground" experience. My fiancée and her family went all-in for this pizza adventure a few weekends ago with tasty results. So if you're confused or you're not "in the club" then you might not understand exactly what I'm talking about. My fiancée and I didn't just walk into a pizza place in Amityville. No no no, folks. Ordering starts via internet/phone. I'd heard that once upon a time things were a little more textually-based, but as popularity has grown, online ordering is how things begin with Mike's. Sounds normal enough, right? Wrong-o! You see, when you go to order this pizza, you'll need to pick a location and a specific time to pick up your order (and just so we're clear none of the locations are the actual pizza place!). Massapequa, West Babylon, or Amityville (the hometown of this mystery pizza) are your only areas, and each one is basically a random spot in these towns. My fiancée and I chose the most eastern location (as we were coming from Medford) and found ourselves sitting in an empty Apple Bank Parking lot in West Babylon at 5PM. As we were waiting, another car parked which made us feel a little less crazy that we'd just ordered pizza to be picked up in a parking lot. But lo and behold, a little after our pickup time of 5 o'clock, another car pulled up filled with our pizza bounty. The friendly driver gave us the goods, we handed off the cash, and we were on our way back to dive into these delicious pizza morsels. So what did we order exactly? Well our group consisted of 5 people so we were able to get two pies and chose to also try some meatballs with mozzarella. I chose one pie and went big with the clams casino pizza. Peppers, onions, bacon, garlic, and chopped clams. The thing was incredibly tasty and had a relatively balanced level of flavors (occasionally the bacon won out, but not often). The fiancée's parents had the choice of the second pie and chose to keep things basic and try just a Neapolitan which, even with its simplicity, was still pretty darn delicious. Those aforementioned meatballs weren't half bad either with a quality meatiness and sauce. Now after all that I'd be tempted to throw five stars onto this Mike's Pizza review, but I have a few small points that bring things down just a tad. For one (and honestly the biggest one) the pickup gimmick is awesome in the warmer weather, but this was the dead of winter and so even with an insulated bag that we brought with us, our pizza was warm at best. Heating up is fine to do, but you'd love to be able to experience this greatness right away and that's tough in the colder months. Plus ya want to make it worth the money as this is not the cheapest pizza endeavor. Prices run a tad higher than most pizza joints, but the quality is also there so it can basically be excused. Overall, Mike's Pizza is superb in flavor and taste which makes it totally worth the unique ordering and pickup process. Perhaps it doesn't work on those colder days if you're traveling a farther distance, but honestly it still might be. With some intriguingly different pizza choices and plenty to choose from (I want the pesto and the vodka Sicilian next time!), I know we'll be picking up Mike's again sometime soon...just keep it a secret. read more

I order 2 heart shaped pizzas for Valentine's Day. The pizza's were absolutely delicious! One of the best pizza's I've ever tasted. However, I personally don't believe their customer service was up to par. I ordered the pizzas to be delivered for 7:15, however they ended up showing up at 8:15. I was told this was due to the delivery drivers getting into a little fender bender. That's fine. Things happen. However, after about 7+ messages asking on the status of the order with no response is just ridiculous. A simple response such as the order is late due to an accident, would have been fine. The first rule of the pizza club is...you're free to talk about the pizza club. I've heard about Mike's Pizza since the beginning of quarantine, and finally had it for dinner last night. Ordering isn't as typical as your normal pizza place. There isn't any store front. You have to text the not so secret number the secret phrase and then answer a question. Minutes later, if you provide the correct answer, you're in the club! You get a few messages back with not only the menus, but also the story of Mike's Pizza. Placing your order is simple after those steps. You simply text back your order, preferred time and date of pick up and location of pick up. You can pick between the gazebo in Amityville or John J Burns park in Massapequa. For breaking my Mike's Pizza virginity, I went with a specialty pie. I ordered the Pesto Pizza. It had pesto, dollops of ricotta, and pancetta. Absolutely a foodgasm! Flavors were exceptional and the crust itself was delicious. I never eat the crust on any pizza, I made the exception last night! The pick-up process from my preferred location was simple. As soon as the delivery driver pulled up, other people were waiting as well. Driver called out names and everyone was able to pick up their orders in an orderly fashion. Guess this concept has blown up because the last few times I've ordered I've been disappointed... Now instead of texting a number you have to order on a website and they don't even have all the options as prior (bring back the andouille sausage option!). Dough is still amazing and everything is beyond fresh but the last 2 pies just tasted rushed and careless. You can see in my updated photo of the a la vodka pie that they're night and day. All the sauce is concentrated in the center, cheese was scattered in blobs like a margarita and it's just overall well done like they forgot about it in the oven. We tried 3 different pies. 5 stars for the Detroit Fondue and Sicilian Vodka. The regular was just ok - not memorable. The ordering process for pickup is interesting - you can order online, but they only accept cash, and you are sent to wait somewhere for a delivery guy to arrive at your car (put your hazards on) with your food. In our case, we were sent to a gazebo in the town of Amityville. Not super smooth, but we got our food eventually. The price is on the high side: with tax and tip 3 pies were about $88. read more

My friend has been telling me and raving about this place for a long time. We have our favorite place just like everyone else, but decided to get from Mike's. We got a regular sicilian pie. Probably one of the worst pizzas I have ever had. The crust and cheese was burned on the outsides and the middle was underdone. The crust was like chewy cardboard. Fabulous pizza and amazing crust! We have had the vodka Sicilian, the regular Sicilian with half meatball and the clam pizza. I am a "light bagels" type of girl and if you like lighter crust, ale sure to mention that to Mike's when you place your order. Their style is VERY charred and I realize most people (including my husband) like it that way. The crust is crisp, yet very airy and it is probably the best crust I've eaten. The clam pie is a totally different style than Frank Peppe in Connecticut but it is the best non-Frank Peppe clam pie we have ever had. Next time I will add extra clams and ask to add shrimp to it too. I'm looking forward to trying the Grandma and the shrimp scampi one too. The owner (?) is very nice and extremely polite and sweet which you can easily tell even though you do not call them or speak with them. A speakeasy for pizza? An underground club where you don't discuss pizza club? That's what Mike's seems to be! You text them with a quote from a movie, then you confirm the movie the quote is from, then they send you images of a menu. The menu is actually more than just pizza and next time I order I might just allow myself to get some pasta! We decided to try the margherita pizza for our first time using Mike's. You text them your order, the pickup time and place (we're out of the delivery zone so we met in a park), and the type of car you drive. They confirm the price the day before and you show up on pickup day with either cash or check. We met our delivery person in a park in Massapequa. He was doing a few deliveries but knew who we were based on the car we drove. He was dressed in a suit in 90 degree heat, which is dedication. The pizza was good. Was it excellent? Nope. But it sure was delicious and I already love well-done pizza so this hit the spot for me. If you dislike well-done pizza, you will not like this place and you can just move along. The pies are a bit expensive but nothing crazy. The pizza, while good, is not better than let's say any pizza spot in Brooklyn. This place is like ... you kind of expect the unusual ordering and pizza obtaining process (at a closed bank) to be a gimmick, and gimmicky restaurants often have subpar food. SO not the case here. It is 100% true this pizza ruined all local pizza for me. I wish it was just "good" pizza, but it's "wait in line in Brooklyn or Manhattan for 90 minutes" good pizza. Sunday I invited my mom over for pizza because I was too tired to cook, and Mike's was unexpectedly closed, and the pizza in lieu of it was just sad. This is a place where every part of the pizza is made to "fantastic pizza" standards. The dough is flavorful (not "just there" like many pizzas) and substantive both on Sicilian and Neapolitan pizza. The sauce is perfectly balanced, and the cheese is fantastic quality. A really great element of old-fashioned, high-heat fired pizza is that the cheese and crust sort of meld into this lacy, crispy amalgam thing and it's sooo good. And that's just on regular bake, not even well done. On top of that, they have a version of so many important pizza variations. They have Detroit pizza, which is difficult to find between here and Patchogue. They have Connecticut style clam pizzas, a fondue pizza, spinach and artichoke pizza, vodka pizzas, and a bunch of other styles that are rarely done all in one place and done well. One reason why it's kind of annoying it's so good is that if you're out of delivery range, you do need to be there at 5 or 7. And you need cash (or a check). You can't sit at home and have it delivered. But this pizza is definitely worth putting on pants and shoes. I wish I knew more people so there were more reasons to try different varieties, but definitely try any pizza - they're consistently good. read more

Mike's used to be my go to not only for pizza but for the family dinners offered as well. Not anymore though !!! The last time we ordered a family dinner, the pasta came undercooked and when I complained about it I was brushed off. This wasn't a plate of pasta it was a whole tray !!! I figured I'd try again as I always loved the pizza !!! Last weekend had a few buddies over to watch football and I decided to order a Mike's special. That's the pizza with everything on it. The only thing it was drowned with was salty pepperoni, the meatballs were missing and the pizza was only warm. I texted them to let them know and the response I got was "oh my" I'll let Mike know. Never heard back and they had the nerve to cash my check for the $43.00. Sorry Mike!!! I've recommended countless customers and in the past when you guys messed something up, it was made up for.
