I searched for weeks trying to find a roofing company that wasn't try to push a specific product, brand or anything that would mean forgoing retirement or taking out a second mortgage to pay for it (Tesla roof 161K Hah!). Oh yeah, most importantly they needed to know how to deal with the City of Glendale where the building and permit department acts more like an HOA. His crew are very quick, reliable, and does a great roofing work. They worked flawlessly with the solar company. Then there's Leslie. She works in the office and she even helps you to get a rebate. I was having so many problems either the city asking for this and that repeatedly for the rebate. Leslie just took over, dealt with the city directly, and we got the rebate. Tony, from Mike's Roofing, reroofed our house a couple years ago and installed a solar system -- they did a stellar job at a very reasonable price.. During the roofing process, they brought two bathroom venting issues up to code and created an effective attic venting system that does not rely on electric fans. Since Mike's installed the solar system, our electricity bills have consistently been rock-bottom at $11/month ($10 grid hookup fee plus a 10% tax) each and every month. That includes the recently hot summers with virtually constant AC use and the cooler, darker off-season which requires more heating and lighting. We couldn't be happier with the job they did and the savings we are now enjoying. read more

Didn't end up hiring these guys, as when somebody is a jerk to you during the sales process I can only imagine what they would be like to work with. Took weeks to show up, which is fine given the recent storms. when they did, they barely responded to emails and it took almost a week to get a quote from them, with no explanations at all about what the issues were that required a new roof installation. They refused to provide any warranty for leaks coming from HVAC and went out of their way to point out that this wasn't covered and when I pushed back (as the current issues we are having may be related to HVAC) they basically sent me on my way. This was the only roofer to claim that shingles were the wrong choice for my roof. When asked to clarify, they rudely told me I should "consider changing the criteria I use to select roofers". So I took their advice and selected not to work with them. read more

Long overdue review. I hired them back in February 2020 to install 2 Velux sun tunnels in my roof in order to bring more light into my front entryway. I don't get much natural light in that area of the house and am always trying to find ways to bring in more light. I had done some research on sun tunnels, loved the concept, and decided I preferred them over a skylight for various reasons. Made an appointment with Rob who was a pleasure to work with, so professional, answered all of my questions, and put me at ease re making what I consider to be a fairly big decision. It took quite a bit of time to decide the locations where we would install the tunnels due to the shape of my roof, obstructions in the attic, trying to figure out the best way to optimize the sunlight. Fast forward and I'm thrilled with our new sun tunnels. Installation was a breeze - took a day and a half, the 2 guys that came (I forget their names) did a fantastic job. Thankfully they made sure to cover every surface so I wouldn't have to deal with the dust. My entryway feels like a whole new space- bright and inviting, not the dungeon it felt like before. I love that the sun tunnels don't bring added heat into the house in the summer, just a warm light to brighten my space. My husband loves the solar light that turns on in the evenings so he can safely walk down the stairs in the middle of the night without having to turn on hall light. Overall Mikes Roofing did a wonderful job from beginning to end and I'd give them more stars if I could! read more

Mike's Roofing did a complete tear off and re-roof of our home in Eagle Rock. Everything went great (and it was even during Covid). Communication with Tony was reliable as we ramped up to the project -- there was quite a bit of back-and-forth due to the virus and we have solar panels (our solar company disappeared during the pandemic). The crew was courteous, quiet, and pleasant. The job went very quickly, two days and they were done. The roof looks great! I'll also mention that Tony gave us a very competitive price. We interviewed half a dozen roof contractors and Mike's came in at half the price of most of them. Half the price! They have never gouged me on the price, they are quick (the last project took two days, not the three days that were planned for) and extremely neat (they even folded my tarp and put it in my carport and you couldn't even tell there was work done after they left.) They have been honest about the age of my roof and when it will need to be entirely replaced, unlike other companies that have tried to get me to replace the whole thing when it still has 10 years left. They even went ABOVE AND BEYOND this last time, fixing an entire section of my roof when the insurance would only cover 200 sq. ft. Wow. What a "GREAT" experience all around hiring Mike's Roofing and Building to do our new roof. The old roof was 28 years old, and we've been in our house 45 years. Tony and his dad Mike, have been around for a very long time, since 1972, and it shows. They were recommended by very old personal friends in Northridge and they were "right on". From the moment Tony came out for a free estimate I knew we were in good hands. They removed one roof, (shingles) and also flat roofing over the Carport. They repaired 3 or 4 seriously water damaged places with new facia board and paint. They sold me Owens Coring 50 year warranted shingles. Since I'm 75 years old, I think they might just outlive me. We pulled a permit and the Department of Water and Power should give us a rebate since we used high efficiency shingles considered "cool" shingles, They finished the job last week after 4 days with 2-6 men working depending on the daily requirements. I have already recommended them to 4 others, one of which I believe has already gotten an estimate. Never left a review after the work was done back in 2015 but now feel like I need to. To start, Ill say that Mikes Roofing is timely, friendly and do fairly solid work but I had to have them immediately come back after putting on a brand new roof ($17K) for some of the smaller roof edge detail which were not properly done. They did, though I should not have had to ask. 7 years have now passed and I have multiple leaks. The labor is only covered for 5 years, some of the material for 12 years and the asphalt shingles for 50....but good luck trying to get any leaks covered via the "warranty" after reading the fine print---read the detail because your warranty may not help you. Mike's didnt bother telling me any of that until after they came out to check my leak issues, sent me an estimate for repair and I asked why they were charging me to do the repair. They sent an estimate for $1,447 which included a new gutter on one small section I want to have done--they did not break down the separate cost of the new gutter from the roof repair so I asked to resend with the separate costs. The new quote specifically noted that the cost of installing a gutter ($515) was only good if I also did the roof repair. read more

First the meat. Leslie said its $680 to lay down plastic with no guarantee of any kind because its a flat roof. Also, No appointments available today or tomorrow for a repair. So the first time it rains in Los Angeles in over year, i find we have a roof leak. That's a total bummer, so i turn to my trusty yelp app to look for a vendor that can come by and take a look to fix. I search in Van Nuys since this roof is in Van Nuys. First they leave me on hold for about 1 1/2 but the station they have you on hold with is terrible. My view is that if you are going to have someone on hold, at least give them a "clear" radio station. It's very hard to be on hold with static... But for $680 ? for plastic? yeah I'd rather take my business else where... read more

Worst customer service ever. I called to schedule an estimate next week. The woman I spoke to insisted that I need to call her next week to schedule because "I am not the owner to the house yet". I told her that the closing is next Monday and would like to schedule an estimate on Thursday next week. She insisted that I am not the owner so can't make the appointment?!?! While I have lined up different contractors/repair men to look at the house next Tuesday and Wednesday, I do not understand why this woman is so stubborn with no flexibility on scheduling in advance? Making appointment early is preferred by most business but not this company. It doesn't make any sense to me. I was introduced to Mike's Roofing & Building at one of the Sherman Oaks Chamber events (I am a speaker and was speaking there that day). We exchanged cards like we do customarily at all networking events, and Tony was so responsive in following up with me for an estimate - his follow through was impeccable. His timely estimates, via email, were extremely professional and fair. I decided to work with them to re-do the insulation of my house. I had gotten one estimate a few months before, but that other company never followed up, they just gave a verbal estimate and that was it - it was Tony's confident and timely follow through that was the reason for my hiring them. The job was done both thoroughly and quickly in one day, with first class excellence, a wonderful team of workers who went above and beyond the call of duty. They were on time, courteous, very respectful of my home and left it super clean!! They even came back the next day to ensure everything was working properly and provided a lifetime warranty on the insulation. Truly beautifully done. When we spoke I realized that they do not just do "roofing-related" construction (I thought that because of their company name..). So much so that I hired them the very next day to do an even bigger job: a 6foot cinder block fence/wall going over 160 feet around the perimeter of my house. Again, their estimate was fair, timely and thorough. The work they did on such a huge job was impeccable. The top notch materials they used, and the finishing they provided made me want to look for one more project to give them (which I will when I build my home extension next!). The wall project was started on time and, even though it took a bit longer to finish, they did not charge extra. I love that they charge by the project - I find that very honest. I love even more that they take their time to do a thorough job, that they take pride in the quality of their work, and there's no rushing nor cutting corner. Every morning Rafael and his trusted crew would be there between 7:00am and 7:30am and would work till 3:00-3:30 M-F, and even came a Saturday one week to make up for the delay due to rains. Everything I asked, they found a way to provide it. Rafael and his crew are solution oriented and want their customers happy. They not only say that, they walk their talk. There was a bit of a unforeseeable speed bump along the way, and they could have easily added that cost on to my bill, instead they took care of contracting it out to the right professional and they covered the cost. That was above and beyond the call of duty, and it's what sealed the deal for me as far as calling them again and again for any type of construction/GC jobs I will have in the future. We even had a pretty substantial earthquake during construction - the wall was about half-way done (3..4..feet high), and it withstood that test with flying colors. As a home owner, I want things done right the first time, and I can be quite picky. I am self-empolyed and so cost is even more important to me. Tony, Rafael, Ramiro and their team have the highest work ethics and I could not give them a higher stamp of approval. I am loving the result of their high quality workmanship, the fairness of what they charged me, and the opportunity to work with them again and again in the future, I am sure. I hired Mike's to remove an old fixed skylight on my covered patio and replace it with a new Velux Fresh-Air skylight that opens, and to apply acrylic coating to the patio cover. I found Mike's on the Velux website where it appears as "Best View Skylights" (they're the same company). I am a very satisfied new customer. Tony from Mike's came to my house to prepare an estimate (unlike another company who made and then cancelled an appointment). Tony gave me a reasonable estimate (unlike a different company who's estimate for the exact same skylight and work was a third more). Mike's staff was also terrific: the office communicated well by email on the paperwork and scheduling the work; the foreman called me twice to confirm the installation appointment; and the installation crew was nice and professional and left everything clean when they finished. I had a new roof installed by Mike's Roofing and Building about 4-5 years ago.  The price was great!  Tony, my estimator, was great to work with and had great customer service.  The tear off and installation crew was polite, professional and they did a great job. The installation was about a week, they cleaned up everything up when they were done. I am still very happy with the work especially with all of the recent heavy rains, I have had no problems with the roof. There were some minor cosmetic repairs needed recently on their current roof put on some 25+ years ago. They made the repairs and inspected the roof. Everything looks good for at least 10 more years. I just had my roof done by mikes.. I had a really bad experience with the company. They weren't careful with my property. They damage my car and they didn't want to take responsibility for it. I called the owner regarding the damage to my car and he was rude about it. They also left a mess in my back yard nails all over the place and all my plants around my house were damage.I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. read more

Was getting estimates for a new roof and a friend recommend we call Mike's... can NOT say enough about this company. We had Tony out for an estimate on a new roof and also to look at the flat roof in our sun room that was sagging, (was told by a few other contractors nothing could be done for the flat roof).They gave us an estimate for both, and were able to jack up the flat roof and put in post to fix it right away. Right before the new roof was to start we decided that we wanted to add rain gutters. Again they gave us an estimate right away. They gave us a date of when they were going to start the new roof replacement and started exactly on the date. The roofers were punctually on time which is great if you want to get it done right away, bad if you want to sleep in past 7am. They told us it would be a 3 day job, due to rain it got delayed by a day, but they came out on Saturday to finish the job. On the morning after the rain they couldn't do any roofing, but they did install our rain gutters, so no time was lost. Leslie in the office is a doll always there to answer all our questions and I'm sure at some point we will be having her over for wine on the front lawn so that we can all admire our new roof and gutters. Will definitely be contacting them again for any other building needs we might have in the future. I had Mike's roofing come out to put a tarp on my roof due to leaking in the previous rain storms. They charged $500.00 to do this but the money would be applied to the repairs within the next 30 days. They did not come prepared to support the tarp that I had to pay $500.00 for so they used river rock I had around my home to support it. Well we know river rock is round and with winds in the north valley they will fall off. We heard rocks falling off in the middle of the night crashing onto the concrete around my home. I called them they came out with supplies they should have used. I then called them out for a roof repair estimate. Mauricio came out for about 5 minutes and said he would speak with his boss/owner Tony and get back to me. Well close to 2 weeks later I called them and he emailed me an estimate for $7500.00 for repairs. He said they have to replace 600 feet of Decra metal tile. I asked why. He said that is how they repair roofs. I called Decra the manufacturer of the roof and when I told him the estimate they laughed at me and said our tile is very durable and does not need replacing it can be reset. I called Tony the owner/boss and asked how he came up with is estimate. He said from satelite pictures. I said you were not even at my home and Mauricio was at my home for 5 minutes and you want to charge me $7500.00. He said this is the price and feel free to call someone else out. I have referred them to buyers and sellers that I have worked with over 30 years. I will NEVER EVER refer them again. They are dishonest & unreliable. DO NOT USE THEM. read more

Well finding you need a roof repair ( or worse a whole new roof) is usually found at the most inopportune time. They say when it rains it pours. When most people find they have a leak others have found the same problem. People get very antsy and expect everyone to be available when they need them. Negative reviews could easily be for that exact reason. I'm here to tell you as a contractor, that while I'm a cabinetmaker and not a roofer, I know what good service is. I've used Mike and his company for years and highly recommend them. His son, Tony is very knowledgeable and not at all high strung. Fortunately they do such good work that I don't have to have calls for them to come back. There are obviously less than wonderful conditions that they have to work around. Flat roofs should be a concern for anyone. Water needs to drain and the higher the pitch the better. Very few people think ahead and plan for the need to get a roof repaired. If your at all interested in their services you can have them service cleaning out or replacing gutters and at the same time give a review of your roof. If you want to be proactive, everyone should visit their attics at the first rain of the season and check for leaks. At that time you have a better chance of getting on their list. As far as pricing, again I have no complaints. They are competitive and roofs are not the cheapest but maybe one of the most important items your house will ever need. If your thinking about going with a solar system be sure to give them a call first to check out sequencing. read more

Just got a new roof from Mike's Roofing and they finished last week. We put trust in Mike's as they have been in business for 50 years and our last roofer disappeared when we needed him. Didn't want to go through that again. Tony Quiroga, an owner, came out and showed us several samples and pricing alternatives and understood the cause of leaking problem we have had for years on the deck over our garage. Other roofers had never gotten to the root of the problem. There was no pressure to pick the better roof over the more affordable alternative which was very nice, but we did pick the nicer roof. During the install, Mike's crew was very professional and showed up right on time at 7 AM every morning....no sleeping in. They were polite, clean and were more than happy to answer our questions and keep us posted on what they had accomplished and what would be done the next day. The job went exactly as scheduled and they even allowed us to keep the extra roof tiles just in case we might need them for a repair sometime down the road as we live in a very high wind area in Porter Ranch.
